Ok, it's not a great earring, but if you are in PoS doing various 1.0 epic stuff for rangers and others and you can always keep your eyes open for the drops. Wisdom gear is handy for tradeskilling (TSing) so anything you can get your hands on relatively early (at lower levels when it might be something you would normally wear) can be useful to hang onto later just for the wisdom. With a little foresight, it's not too hard to get over 300 wisdom with gear swaps even without chanter buffs, so this earring has one possible use even when it's not worth wearing during soloing/grouping/raiding.

who cares what someone else says about the item OR how you play your ranger...personally i like having wisdom AND dex...love procing weapons...can you say dps?...heck...i got the kill on talendor and ragefire in one raid one evening........dont have my bow skill maxed...i like slicing things up once the tank has his agro. the haste on swiftwind and spell haste makes me a very deadly weapon. plus i got the haste item from sky quest 41%.

any ranger that thinks this is a nice quest is a freaking n00b and shouldnt be a ranger... my normal hits with my bow are between 500-800 why the hell would i waste my time for a pos earring like this? and to waste your aa's on mental clarity? that is just plain stupid. now i can see getting mental clarity after you have around 200 aa's or so cause you just get bored... but the first aa's ranger should get are EQ and AM3 how about that ****.
You are the noob. EQ and AM3 CAN'T be your first aa, you have to spend at LEAST 18 AA before starting on those... As for the mental clarity and flowing thought items, you must not solo a lot... Root-n-shoot can drain your mana fast on mobs that have 20k+ hitpoints... especially if your bow has a proc. Standard kiting isn't always available.
Besides which, Mental clarity comes before EQ/AM AA's, in a level that must have poionts trained in it before training EQ/AM. At this point, you would still be doing more damage melee/nuking, so no reason NOT to train it. Maybe if you are a raiding robot whonever grinds or does anything that might be a chakllenge with less than 71 of you closest friends, then yeah, MC might be a waste... For those of us who like to do hard LDoN without standard CC peeps, mana is precious... heals, roots, debuffs, nukes when range is an issue.... I can drain my mana pretty fast.

Guess what m8? this game is played for fun. Im a luclin equipt ranger with maxed crit/archery aa's and a stonewood. if you hitting for 500-800 per hit, than either a) your lying. B) your a time equipt Rng, which means, yes, you dont need this. There is alot of folks that can use this. Not everyone is in a major guild. Realize alot of folk play the game not to get the Ph@t Ub3r l00tZ, but actually enjoy quests. Most rangers will make the trip to Sky to get Swifty orb, usually in their 50's, so why not make this quest part of your agenda. The haste cloak is highly sought after so you will find alot of groups of 65's hitting Sky.
Next time you flame, try to think why people would like this item. Not everyone is a twink thats just another face in a superguild.

any ranger that is far enough from a mob to click a careless lightning nuke on them, would be better off shooting arrows..this quest is a waste of effort :)

Lol, anyone who says this thing sucks is absolutely insane. Sure, it can't compare to VT/Ssra/Elemental Plane drops, but this IS'NT one of those zones. This earring is all positives in stats and effects. Hell, I'd use it just for the effect. And to say Rangers aren't casters is stupid and shows a lack of knowledge. In fact, my Archetype AAs will probably go towards Mental Clarity 3, because I'm oom so often from Joting, Snaring, CoE/SoN and Harmony. And for soloing mana is key. And no, I don't have one yet, but I'm hitting POA today with my guild, and hopefully we'll get some drops for this fine quest and many others. While Rangers may get the shaft on alot of drops, Verant somewhat compensated by giving us some of the best PoA quests. Dark Cloak of the Sky, the Ds-blade (Can't pronounce the dang name), this, Windstriker, Earthshaker's Mantle are all quality pieces. Anyone who thinks these suck for a 46+ Ranger who is'nt in some uber-guild is nuts.

To do the quest you need to talk to the Ranger Spirit who then sends you to Gordon Treecaller
You need to turn in a Djinni Statuette, a Spiroc Thunder Totem, and a White Gold Earring. These are all random drops from various islands in the PoA (don't ask me what island has what drops.. I don't know that)
This is what you get back.

Rangers can solo using wisdom gear. I have done it. My wisdom is currently up to 153 and the casting penalties drop each level beyond level 51 so it get easier and easier to solo. I have downed blues using pure magic like this in BW. In Skyfire, I still need arrows. IMHO gear that can give you wisdom, ac, and a effect that has unlimited charges to do damage is the way to go. Although my soloing tactics have changed since chloroplast beacuse I can tank for a short time and then bow and DoT/ Nuke kite while I heal from regen and then re engage to finish the job. I still am relying on offensive magic to assist the win. Don't underestimate the power of a large wisdom base. It is you hidden secret to success.

I am going after one of these tonight. Wish me luck. And for any that think this is not a good item, consider this. Get Tolan's gauntlets, Tolan's Arm Vambracers, Tolan's Bracers, and one of these. Combine that with a decent bow and what do you get? Unlimites snare, Stinging swarm, Arrows, and Nuke. The only thing using mana is root. Talk about a solo fest :-)

Only good thing is the AC, the proc from it is a 99dd, big deal, in the time it takes to cast it I'll do 3-4 times as much damage in melee. Also what ranger needs the wisdom? We aren't big time casters. We don't heal or nuke so there's basically no point. Get a better earring and don't waste time on this crap.

with this baby a ranger could soften up a lot of targets from a safe distance prior to melee without losing arrows or mana...it is an awesome piece....Grats to Skyler

we do need wisdom though, we buff ourselves and the group don't we? for example call of earth, strenngth of nature, call of the preditor, sow, storm strength, chloro, greater heal... all these spells, excluding CoE, and SoW. take more than 100 mana each to cast... we neeed wisdom if you want to buff your whole group and not go oom 17 times. and the agi and dex are really helpful, agi for added ac(though it isnt much) and the dex for procs. our epic has one of the best pros in the game in my opinion, and i love to see it go off at the beginning of the fight, especially when i am soloing bok knights, or dueling <grin>, and last, but probably most importantly. the ac on this thing is killer, only one better ac earring for rangers (i am a half elf, not sure about other races, but probably for them too)and it drops off of the king dragon in skyshrine... and btw this is NOT a flame. just me sticking up for a great piece of equipment.

Excellent points, although there are at least three earrings with better AC. Two of those are dragon loot in Skyshrine, which you mentioned. The other has serious AGI and DEX hits (-35 each, ouch). I would wear this in a heartbeat for day-to-day use, as would most other rangers.
