Downed Venril Sathir 8/30/05, on Bristlebane. This dropped along with Tolan's Greaves, 57 druid spell Bonds of Tunare and the wizard epic piece.

Friend gave my mage this staff recently...

First, it is not a proc, I am able to right click and get the effect as long as it is wielded. Second, it DOES take 3 Cat's Eye Agate to cast from this damn thing (Gee, thanks Verant). Third, casting time is about the same as the spell (Gee, thank Verant). Fourth, I am able to use it at 53rd level, but I already have the next upgrade to the spell (Gee, thanks Verant).

So by the time you get this staff or are able to use it you won't have a need for it and you will still need to carry about enough agate to choke a whale... what a great idea (Gee, thanks Verant).

From my point of view the best thing about this weapon is the delay. A low level mage can really make use of it to train the 2hb skill in relatively fast time and then get a better weapon when their skill is up to a good standard.

As with all of my low level toons I just equip them with the fastest weapon of each type I can find until they start maxing the skills.

The main advantage of this staff is the mana free buff. Great for after a rez, when you have no mana. Just pick up staff, cast on yourself, and sit to enjoy +3 regen per tick, expeciallty when rezzer is low on mana, or has others to rez too.

Edit: I agree with you about the gem cost though. Would be nice if item-cast buff and spells required no reagents! Smiley: wink2

I have three spell sets for my mage. When I get on, when I'm going to summon a pet, and when I go into battle. That last one has a few gems that vary based on the situation. I would LOVE to have this item, as I wouldn't have to worry about memming this spell.

I just dinged to 45 and my shissar guardian staff still doesnt work.It makes me so mad i have waited since lvl 20 for it to work and it dont even work at 45.Im guessing it will work on lvl 50.Guess i have to wait.:(

Heh I'm guessing you need to be at least L44 since that is when you get the spell. And the only time my Mage melees at 48 is if he's passing through a zone and a skeleton attacks him or something. At my level meleeing would just get me killed, far better to sit and gain mana. And it's 2HB, so the damage you would do with this still sucks. 1HB at least I could wear my Webshield. It's not about crying, it's asking why you would put a worthless item on a L55 Named MOB. It's kinda like the pants that drop off of the Ghoul Magus, by the time you can kill him they are worthless. And this item isn't even something to give a twink above maybe L12 at the latest.

I agree about spell slots too. I play a Necro and Mage, the Necro never has enough spell slots and the Mage has more then he knows what to do with usually. Hey, how about we give him a War only no-drop 1HS with a 5/40 delay and an AE effect while we're at it? It would have been much nicer to make it the same as the Staff that casts Blaze or maybe a 1HB that gave us some INT or resists.

No stats, melee useless at this level, semi-worthless effect, I'll pass thanks. The only way this would be of any real value would be if it was part of a quest.

does this still require 3 cat eyes? because if so, then this is far from worthless as i can stop carrying around 5 stacks of reagents, plus i dont have to worry about running out and can have unlimited manaless regens

even if it still takes the cat eye, its still isnt useless at all... just toss it in your right click stuff bag with earthen boots, jboots, clay bracelet (eye of zomm forever when your bored woot ;P), and whatever other stuff you may have in there

but... we got real real gyped with the vs drop though. cant help but think some times that theres some game designer who entertains himself by messing with the mage class

Yes this still requires the agates. It is a right click effect starting at 50. The only thing this does is save on mana, which I've never summoned armor during a time when there is a mana crunch anyway! So I would have to agree with the rest that say this is pretty useless, especially being a freakin 2 handed weapon!

This isn't an armor summoning. It's an AC and hp regen buff for those who like to overnuke or to run around w/o a lev on.

Phantom plate. BOOOOOO. It dont take much to buff with this spell, if it saves a stone it saves all of 2-3 gold per cast (Verant usualy makes it use the stone anyhow)

This buff lasts a long time so recasting it manualy isnt a very big drain on mana. It also doesnt help much towards keeping a spell slot free because you only mem it and cast once in a great while. And mages havent got a huge need of extra spell slots.

We load a coupla nukes, COH, Gate, Dammage shield, pet, malaise, burnoutIII, and we are good for almost any situation. (With one slot free to swap in our buffs and invis. Not like ench where moving spells off to items is of great help.
SO... it saves a tiny ammout of mana every 30 minutes. And you only have to have 5 good groups to get it. Realy good verant. Thanks.

NOW... if they made it cast "COH", or "Cadeau of flame" It would be a good item and not game imbalencing. I have sucked my manna dry for 20 minutes calling people down steps in chardoc for a king run. Would help there. Or the ability to cheaply keep a dammage shield up would rock.

Apparently I see why you post anonymously, cause you're a moron. Quit posting your lame replies. I agree with the first person, all the other INT caster items that drop off Venril Sathir have +11 int and + to mana as well, yet the Mage items gets a lame *** effect and no stats. Blah..it's garbage.
