quite an uber sword, lvl 49 ranger in my guild pops alot of nice low 100's with it. not quite sure how much she proc'd though, didnt pay much attention to that much of it :(
Dmg Bonus
# Oct 14 2001 at 5:31 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, the bonus is related to your lvl and skill. My 46 ranger with a low 2hs skill of 130 gets a bonus of 5. My buddy the 55 ranger with maxed 2hs gets a bonus of 15.

Thats not my experience with 2HS... Damage bounus goes up on about every 3 or so levels I can't remember exactly. Secondly, depending on WHICH 2HS I'm using its either 8 or 16. The slow delay 2HS like Black Acylia Halberg 40/48 is 16; my Silver Swiftblade 16/24 is 8. My 2HS is Maxed like all my weapon skills except 2HB, which I dont have the heart to start.

Sorry but at lvl 46 my dmg bonus is 12 with a 2hs of 71. Damage bonus is based entirely on character level and NOT level of weapon proficency.

"Train to zone, bit of this bit of that"

Forgot to mention that I did take the 12 dmg bonus number off of swarmcaller.

damage bonus also varies by 2hb and 2hs - for example a swarmcaller has a 20 DMG bonus at 54 but a Throneblade of Yak has a 24 damge bonus (or was it 25?) They both weight 10 but have different damage/ delay.

2hs "base" dmg bonus is based on the delay of the weapon, then any modifiers you might have due to level, proficiency, atc would figure in.. (IE post lvl 50, you dmg bonus would be higher the npre-50)

With 1hs weapons, it is based on level....

i would like to add the fact with the new patch that adds dmg bonuses to 2 handed weapons. the swarmcaller has a 3 dmg bonus. i have one and with 115 dex it procs between 4-6 times a fight. too bad i the effect of the proc wont work untill i get another 10 lvs 8( oh well this weapons rocks, that's my 2cp. and if you don't have any 2hs skill, don't worry about it. i got mine at the begining of the 35 hell lv. i had put 3 points into 2hs and got it up to 145 just as i got out of the hell lv. so get in a good group and ask if they mind if you can work on your 2hs skill. it will go up quite fast. and by the way, i don't have any haste items just a fast and quick ranger 8) good hunting to you all and get one of these for your ranger today!!

My 29 Druid was lucky enough to have plat when a 51 lvl wizzie was getting rid of this and I picked it form my Ranger when he was lvl 11 (!) for 2K. He's been using it ever since, and yep, I wouldn't change it for the world. I can't wait to get dual, and so i practice 1H, too, but for grouping the constant 28/29 dmg coupled w/ my Ranger's Kick (hey, 6-8 pts consistently, nuttin' wrong w/ that) rules.

Hey all, so heres whats up. I started playing about 3 months ago and like many newbies (apparently) i only practiced 1hs, well im now lvl 36 with maxed 1hs and i have my piercing up to about 80 something, my question is should i bother with 2hs? Before you say yes because it never hurts to have all your skills up etc, i understand this but im a very poor ranger and i cant spend 2k on a swiftblade or 5k on this to get my skills up, and i dont solo so i wouldnt really need it for that. I understand that after 50 aggro management is the name of the game for us rangers, but can i duel wield and just realy on jolt to keep my safe? Or is jolt not enough and i will need to be able to switch to a 2 hander?? thanks for your help

Another way to raise 2hds skill , dont know if Ranger's ever thought of this but .....
its simple to do do your snare , root , dot thing until the mob turns to run away (like 20% health of less ) pull out the 2hds and whack the crap out of it . This is a soloing rangers dream to raise skills . Just a soloing Rangers two copper

A note on skill raising, within 8 hours (long play session) i got my 2hs for 70, to 191 in velks. 2 Things you need to know and your skill will fly up... DEX is King, find a shaman, somewhere anywhere that can cast Harnessing Of Spirit, it's a good hp/str/dex buff and lasts over an hour. 2nd Get a fast 2hs, under 30 delay if possible. I like the Silver swiftblade myself, 16/24 2hs Ranger only. With any form of haste, you'll swing like mad, and the skill will fly up (i had 255dex with HOS and Chanter Boon of the Garou on). I was getting 5-6 skill raises per kill, and the mobs were a constant flow. Another trick, what i did to get my skill to the lowly 70, was fearkite animals, and just 2hs em to death, the fights may have gotten long at times, but snare and fear cost jack, as far as mana goes.

I only started 2hs when i hit 40 or so, still way down atm, but working on it. Get a BABS Blackened Alloy ******* Sword. A few hundred pp tops, and its light(or go to Runnyeye and get one yourself like I did). When in a decent group or fear kiting, pull it out when its safe and swing away. There are many good 2hs weapons, and hard to beat the $ of the BABS to skill up with. You are correct on the 50+ aggro issue also. SAfe journey

Good call Kylwen, for the money (200pp tops or free if you get it yourself) the BABS is hard to top as a 2hs trainer.

Although, on EMarr Silver Swiftblades are coming down fast. I recently sold one for 500pp, and it took forever.
Jolt
# Sep 10 2001 at 2:43 AM Rating: Default
I must say for a while I would really have liked to wield one of these beauties. I've camped the courtyards a lot in KC and have not seen one drop yet. But acquiring the spell Jolt at 51, I've decided dual-wielding is the way to go for me personally. I have a wurmie and a guardian sword and am putting out some nice numbers, and combining that with snare and the twin dots Immolate and Stinging Swarm, I aggro harshly every time. Enter Jolt. Use this spell. It's divine. Once the beasties are all over you, you've done your job with all your spells JOLT the thing off. It will attack the next biggest damage dealer and that's usually the tank. Sometimes it's a wizard, but if the thing is snared, your tank will most likely get the post-Jolt aggro. It works wonderfully, killing two birds with one stone. First, you don't drain your local cleric of mana because amazingly you stay healthy. Second, you're still getting crazy damage with your fast or damaging dual one handers.

I now intend to continue the 1hs climb, and i'm pursuing the Lupine Dagger in Karnor's and the Lammie in Sebelis. Meanwhile, the Swarmcaller has become a distant pre-Jolt happy memory.

I am absolutely not going to tell you you are wrong here, that is a great strategy. I just wanted to add that Jolt just drops down your aggro to the next highest person on the list, whoever that may be (this you know however). When Jolt can backfire on you is when either a cleric/chanter is next on the hate list. Often they don't know they are, but it happens. When that cleric picks the wrong time to CH, or the chanter just tashed and slowed the mob, they can often jump up on the aggro list. Obviously that means that the tank wasn't pulling more aggro than them, but it happens. What you can end up doing (mostly the chanter) is get them killed.

Second problem with Jolt is getting resisted. It happens. In which case you just got yourself more sggro. I was on a PoH raid recently, and most of our raid party had left. We were left with about 1 full group left, with a monk (very nice gear and SMART) and myself tanking. I figure I better break out the dual wield and get some SOME aggro, to spread it out, and give our cleric a chance to heal one of us when we get low. We were just pulling the "easy" mobs to the safe spot, but they still hit pretty hard. I was on snare duty, as trains would be DEADLY at that point. Some of the stuff up there has a high magic resist, so it would take me a bunch of attempts to land one. Snare, snare, snare, snare...BOOM land one. Aggro all over me. Jolt-resist, Jolt-resist, Jolt-resist, Cleric has to heal me at this point....Jolt lands, mob is on the cleric.

Anyway, shouldn't have been up there with what we had left in our group, but it was fun, and we only got 2 deaths the whole time we were up there with one group (my fault by the way, NEVER try to peel off a mob from the monk until he gives the all clear). Sometimes doing what you shouldn't puts some spice back in the game for ya.

Dual vs. 2HS
# Aug 17 2001 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
By comparing damage ratios of any "typical" weapons, dual wield will outdamage 2HS and increase taunt. But, RANGERS ARE NOT TANKS. As someone pointed out, we want to maintain high damage. But at the same time, we want to decrease the likelihood of mobs agro'ing to us during group battles. Swarmcaller is superb for this. The higher delay keeps mobs on the tanks. We can, however, still use it effectively enough to pull mobs off of the casters in the group. And, anyone who has ever fought a Drolvarg Rager in DL knows how important a Slow spell can be.
Now, I'm just waiting to get out of hell so mine will proc for me. Until then, I stay in groups with chanters or shammies and rely on them to slow the mobs.

Sorry - I don't have a picture. But it looks exactly like a Runic Carver :(

The pointy popsicle stick look seems to be all the rage with Kunark swords. Too darn bad - the Velious swords look very very cool. This one doesn't.

It doesn't keep me from using mine, though. This weapon is absolutely superb. And when it starts proccing, it'll be even better.

I am a lvl 26 Ranger and i have been using 1hs since lvl 1. I was duel wielding with an icy blade and icetooth claws and i was dooing fine. Yesterday i picked up a silver-swiftblade. (2hs 16dmg 24 dly) And i love it. I prcaticed about 15 in 2hs and then tryed it out and i did about 200 damage in about 10 seconds. Although that may be because my high strength. But still it out damaged duel wielding. I am looking to buy a swarmcaller now. But i am not sure whether i want to stick with 2hs or wielding. For now i think i will try out 2hs for a while but i am sure that i will go back to duel wielding. Its a good skill that rangers get and i think that we should be thankful

A level 50 Ranger bud of mine (also my EQ godfather LOL) gave me this sword out of friendship/pity. It hoenstly rocks. at level 30 I'm hitting between 68 points to 72 on most Mobs. The sword is definately worth it. Especially the price I paid for it LOL. This little wonder is going to be a part of my ******* for quite a while. I know the epic for rangers are one hand slashers but damn.....for a two hand this is cool. I can't wait until it procs...at level 46! I ditched my Icetooth Claw and I'm sticking with a Fier'Dal Mithril Longsword (an underrated weapon with an unreported stat buff of +2 ac along with the other nice little stat buffs.) and my Short Sword of Morin to keep my one hand skills up. If you're a ranger and have the chance to get this sword..DO IT!

I had a level 52 Mage give me this the other night. I am a level 16 Ranger, and with my damage cap it doesn't do any more damage then my Charred Tulwa. I am very close to dual wield at 17 and was beginning to worry about my 1hs which is feeble. I got a bronze two handed axe at level 3 and I haven't used anything but 2hs since. Should I build up my 1hs skill and dual wield until I hit a higher level and come back to this, or just run with Swarmcaller? I am still in shock I even have this amazing weapon.
RE: Whoa

I am suprised there are no answers to this one. Well, this guy probably figured it out on his own, but the answer is for all of you lower levels who want to know about a sutuation like this.

Work ALL of your weapon skills. There are some nice 1- and 2hb weapons out there that we can use now, and not being able to take advantage of them if they should fall into your lap is a crime.

I personally have made the mistake of not training any of my blunt weapon skills, so I won't be able to use the Smouldering Brand or any of the newer staves that are coming out. My loss. The biggest reason for working all of your weapon skills tho is versatility. It lets you adapt to your situation, whether you happen to be (Tunare forbid) the Main Tank, Tank support or Soloing.

Work them all while you are still low enough to not see much of a penalty. When you get as high as I am and try to work a 0 weapon skill up, believe me, it hurts!

Good luck and Good Hunting!
Weapon Issues.
# Mar 01 2001 at 4:50 PM Rating: Default
This is definitely a "must-have" for rangers out there. I hail from Tallon Zek, a ranger of 52 seasons. I usually only dual wield in PvP (I use a Lupine Dagger in mainhand and 1h Lam in offhand and a Hangman's Noose for haste - that's 9/18 and a 9/19 with a 25%(?) haste) - needless to say, that combo is very fast, I rarely get casters casting spells on me when I'm toe - toe with them. I'm working at getting a Woodman's Staff for 2h blunt. Any smart ranger should practice ALL weapon skills. Currently, I'm 200+ in all weapon skills except 2h blunt which is 140 or so.

Taunting
# Feb 16 2001 at 10:37 AM Rating: Default
It's agood ikdea for you Rangers out there to pick up a nice high damage 2 hander like this for the Taunting issues you will increasingly face in higher level's. i am a lvl 56 Ranger and have a Axe of Lost Souls (30 dam 40 del) that i use almost exclusively because my Lamentations just taunt so much, the taunt on 2 hand is substanially less. As far as doing more damage with 1 handers i have never really thought i did more, I have hit for a max of 163 and double attacked for 321 with the AoLS so i think the damage is probably really close.
its complex
# Feb 15 2001 at 8:46 AM Rating: Decent
imho and experience, dual wield does do more damage, and has higher taunt value too.
But, after about mid 30's, we dont want more taunt.
One of the problems with 2hs is the price of a miss, blocked blow, etc. With 2hs you only get a few swings per round. They might be big, but when blocked they aren't. With dual-wield, a block or miss is only one of many shots you're putting out there.
The other issue is procs...more swings = more chances to proc. Now toss in ranger spells like call of sky (35dd zero-duration stun) and you have even more reason to dual wield.
But I think it depends on your gear, and stats.
A flux axe with 150dd proc and a yak, can do alot of damage if your dex is 150+.
But then there's the issue of resists...
you see my point
well great
# Feb 15 2001 at 4:57 AM Rating: Default
You all have made me interested in trying out a ranger now...didn't realize that most of you rangers actually do use 2hs (which I personally think are the best weapons if you can't dual weild). But according to a post below/above (older post), you rangers have found that a good 2hs will outdamage 2 good dual wielded 1hs?

I'm confused...I was always told that dual wield will always outdamage any combo as long as the weapons were all similar. Was I misinformed?

# Feb 14 2001 at 2:18 PM Rating: Default
this weapon is used by every ranger that knows what he is doing up untill he gets his epic, the slow just helps so much, use till you proc then use regular melee. Oh btw, when dueling melee when this procs they will usually just stop hittin and say fine, kill me then
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 15 2001 at 8:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you are a moron, with lamentation in main hand and css in offhand i way outdamage this piece. usually a shammy in group to slow mobs with something much better than tagars.
Damage
# Feb 14 2001 at 12:16 PM Rating: Decent
I have one of these, I've used 2hs exclusively since I started playing the game and looted a rusty 2 hander off a dead orc. I've kept my skills up, but frankly, I just can't afford a dual wield combo that can match the damage this honey cranks out. At level 43 with 109 str my average damage is 46, and the most I've hit for so far is 114. I don't have a haste item, but I was with a shammy in Kedge that had me buffed up and I recorded almost 500pt of damage with 4 consecutive 100+ hits. It doesn't proc yet, but I still love this sword and will probably use it as my main for a long time to come.

RE: effect?

the effect is a shamman slow spell, you wont find a ranger worth anything that doesnt have this weapon. If you like to solo, use till proc then regular melee, it slows 40% so thats 40% less hp you lose which means 40% less down time. It procs at lvl 46 or 47, i believe 46
