#Anonymous, Posted: May 20 2001 at 2:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Acctually its the truth though, i mean all other classes get nice sky shrine quests....nice kunark armor.....monks get the shaft...if this drops, the monks should get first shot and let the warriors go quest their skyshrine or other armor, monks dont get to do that, just think about it for a second, monks dont have your cobalts and tolans, or dont have good skyshrine quests for insane armor! THINK ABOUT IT! monks deserve this~
#Anonymous, Posted: May 29 2001 at 5:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, I take it since you've made your judgement, and your telling everyone else how it is. You must be God, at least eq god. But since you didn't post your name, I'll just refer to you as, God GreedyMonkey. Now first of all, I do not believe in your sovereignity o lord God GreedyMonkey. I don't acknowledge you as my god, seein as how I'm a cleric and my goddess is Tunare. So, your not in my group, your not my god, so please stop telling us what we should do with eq drops in zones you'll probably never go to.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 19 2001 at 5:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Its plain and simple... just becuase somthing CAN be used my a certain class doesent mean that they get it. All u NOOBS claiming about how much the monks r ranting are complete idiots. Stuff like this is the reason we have merit /bonk! This is a VERY nice monk BP and SHOULD go to the monk in group or raid in DN if he needs it.
WTF
# May 18 2001 at 6:06 PM Rating: Default
Sorry for being anon, but too lazy to register and still wanna post an opinion, ya i believe certain items are made for certain classes even though others can wear, and this is a monk item. Any lame *** warrior saying if you can wear it, roll on it is a real loser who hasn't gotten an indo, cobalt, or velious bp. Look at it this way, wars have a choice between tons of high ac bps, and monks dont have this luxury, so quit whining and stop rolling on monk items, and quest for your 59 ac bp that monks sure as hell dont get
RE: WTF
# Aug 11 2002 at 6:34 PM Rating: Default
Why is it that when there is a good item that everyone seems to say "Oh this item should definatly go to a monk"or "This is a monk item". I say this is a good Bp that who ever can wear should roll for unless they have somthing better equiped. Just because Warriors get a 59 ac bp doesnt mean they can just go out an get it. Personaly i think this is a good rogue or ranger
bp.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 29 2001 at 6:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm a cleric and I would not mind at all having this bp, and I think I can make a li'l more use out of the wis than you can :P Also, I don't think you'll see very many Shamans turnin this bad boy down either. Why don't you get off your damn high horse and accept the fact that some items are good enough to be needed/wanted by more classes than just your own. Also, your ******* in this forum doesn't do anything besides show everyone else how greedy and incompetant you are. So keep it to yourself. Do you in your demented fantasy world actually think, that since you've "Enlightened" me to the "plight" of the monkey's I'm going to go out and donate all my monk usable eq to the nearest newbie, then on any drop that is monk usable automatically pass? hell no, and if you do expect this, then I know you must be one hell of a solo'r, cause I know you arn't going to find a group, let alone a cleric(who would really love this bp btw) to heal your sorry, greedy, whiny, stupid, ignorant, and dispicable ***. I know I wouldn't.
Well c'mon you guys!

Dude dont be SOO f*****g rude! So yeah you saying that if you were camping some stuff in Karnors and a tranquil staff dropped you wouldn't give it to me? to a monk who will use it instead of selling it?! you talking about some people being greedy, c'mon look at yer own words! You will roll for everything right:) well hehe if like we had an uber cleric item drop and instead of giving it to you I'd roll for it and win, I bet that you'd start crying and saying "but I'm a cleric, it should be mine..." and hehe dont think that if this bp has wis and int you should get it:) why would you need str, dex, sta?!
A word to Monks and all who will read
# Aug 27 2001 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
#1 I am a 55 cleric. #2 STR/DEX/AGI are important to all classes to some degree. #3 This item is fairly rare. Compare it to the monk only BP from the ice borrower in WW(which isnt exactly a rare drop).
This Carapace is +4AC -3STA +5AGI -3DEX +2HP better/worse in the primary stats(the 4AC is a good boost :-0). It is 7 worse in resists(but mostly just a wash :)), and does have the added benefits of +6WIS +7INT +6CHA(always nice to get bumps to lesser stats). So while this item is very nice, if you are a monk and want a great BP, grab your buds and go take out an ice borrower(I have gladly helped 2 monks get theres with no benifit to me, and infact at a cost of many peridots. As far as the carapace goes if i am in a non guild group and this drops I certainly feel I deserve a shot at it along with everyone else for whom this is an upgrade(big upgrade for me I might add). This BP is obviously best for monk, with ranger and rogue not too far behind, but by the time you get to DN and kill to see this drop and you have a worse BP than this, you will be drooling to have it no matter what class you are. BP's are hard to get for EVERYONE! For every monk out there, there are dozens of other melee characters. I don't know all most certainly, but I don't know where I can go and whack a monster and grab a great BP, must be nice to be a monk. Good luck out there, and remember we all pay the same price to play :P Fantastic Four me if you must.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 16 2001 at 6:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Monks **** off. I dont see MNK only stamped on it. Im a level 52 warrior and i wear this almost all the time resists and stats are great, ac is better than a gimpy tree weave. so plz go sell your ******** to someone else. Any class that can wear this should have a chance to roll on it. not just half-naked men and lizards in leather pants.
Monk Gear
# May 12 2001 at 1:23 PM Rating: Default
Greetings, I happened upon this line of posts while checking out the chestpiece and had to chip in my 2cp. Let me clarify something that, for some reason, other Monks have not. We Monks have a valid excuse when we latch onto a really good Mnk wearable item as being choice for us. We do this for various reasons, for starters, if you've never played a Monk, I strongly encourage you to try, it's a challenge but it's really alot of fun and rather addicting... however, here's where the rub comes in, our gear has low AC yet we're ALWAYS taking a beating because we outdamage the "tanks", we need STR, we need DEX and God knows we need AC, yet most of our 'Mnk only' gear doesn't accomodate. Take for instance our Kunark class gear, Crescent, for pete's sake, the gi has the AC of cured silk and a whopping +7 STR (at 51 and not being in an uber guild I'm still wearing a crescent gi *moans*) whereas other classes (Priest casters even) have higher AC and better stats on easier to attain gear than our "uber level" equipment (not all classes and it depends on the item yes, so don't rant on me for stating what is true, love it or hate it). Also, people are taking pot shots at we Monks over our weight "Hey it weighs over 1 stone, it's too heavy for you". BAH! Play a Monk, as I said earlier. I, as a Human Monk went down 3 AC whenever I went 1 stone over my weight limit, but if you equip an item with higher AC the weight balances itself out nicely, it doesn't affect your booty kickin' ability as a Monk, you just lose some AC, add that item with more AC and the problem is solved. So if it weighs 5 stones, hoo diddly doo man, it's still better than being below our weight limit and wearing crescent or some other piece of crap. As for Rangers, I don't know about ya'll or your gear, this item may be good for you as well (except you Mr.Twinky, I loathe your kind and think Verant oughtta do what Blizzard did with Diablo and put lvl req's on gear, but that's another story)but you've got better gear somewhere down the line, no question. Shoot, I've got PoG pants, 6 AC, SIX AC on leggings, what do YOUR leggings have for AC? I guarantee you have more than 6, Monks are always trying to up their AC and overall melee stats and are always at a handicap at doing so because truthfully speaking in a non-whining rant, we really don't have many gear options as opposed to other melee classes. This isn't necessarily a bad thing all the time because again, it does present a challenge, but you don't appreciate the good ol' challenge as much when you're getting smacked around for 130 point double attacks from some rosey cheeked orcs because the so called tank with all the AC and HP's can't taunt the critter off of you (Note to my Monkly brothers: Feign quickly, they wanna play Mr.Hotshotmeatshield then you oblige 'em that and put their AC to good use ;))

We're not trying to lay claim to all the gear, but most all of the Monk only gear, well, sucks as opposed to the gear of other classes. That's why I get ticked off when I see an item that would be a perfect balance for we Monks in the melee lineup that's also wearable by other classes that have better at their disposal. Like that time I threw a tantrum in LGuk because I found out Warriors could wear fungi tunics, and yes I still resent them for that, how would they like it if we Monks were sporting Indo and Cobalt, HMM!? HMMMMM!?!. But these other classes trying to get gear that isn't really top notch for them make it much harder for us to aquire anything that we could really "USE" rather than other classes just "want"ing it. Such as, a Shaman,(deleted mine at lvl 47 out of boredom with the class so I do know a lil' about the class) was arguing with me that the PSC was better for Shamans than Monks, Shammies need AC sure, but they need Wis for mana seeing as the shammy playable races all have lower Wis than let's say the races that are Druid playable and this item doesn't hold a candle next to the Shammy Planar gear for what really makes a Shaman tick. When it comes to hardcore Need Before Greed, this item, as well as some others, best suit the Monk class. Not because we're Monks and we just deserve it, but because it's one of the few items that actually comes close to meeting our needs for the roles we play in battle.

So hear us out, we're not saying 'gimme gimme' we'd just like to receive a little of this "Balance" that the folks at Verant keep rambling on about. We don't wanna fuss, we just want some gear that really suits our class. It ain't easy being a walking taunt with low HP's and weak gear, give at least a little credit where it's due to us.

/cry You have in deed better AC than most warriors. But hps give warriors the tanking edge. This is in deed an item geared for a monk, but I wouldn't complain if I ran into this bp.
RE: Monk Gear
# Jul 25 2001 at 10:57 AM Rating: Decent
I totally disagree. pre 50 yes, a monk very well can have a higher ac than a warrior but the closer you get to 60 the warrior pulls way ahead of a monk in ac not to mention really closes the gap on the melee skills. And any monk who thinks he out does a 60 rogue had better run a log during a fight to see who deals the dmg.
The other point of who gets it. If your not the guild leader then who cares what each individual thinks, you wont decide who gets it any ways. So live with it. No one made you play a monk.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 17 2001 at 10:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) MONK: OH PITY ME! I CANT CARRY MORE THEN 15 STONES! I LIVE IN A SEWER GRATE! ENCHANTERS CAN MELEE BETTER THEN ME! You warriors and druids have it so easy! Look to the side for once and notice us monks desperately trudging through the mud, with barely an armor. And now, when we are granted some salvation from our horrible life, YOU RANGERS AND WARRIORS TAKE IT FROM ME!! YOU CAN GET COBALT ARMOR AT YOUR LEVEL. All we asking for is a Phase Spider Carapace, just one little Phase Spider Carapace.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 11 2001 at 4:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OMG im gettin so sick of lookin for twink items for my ranger and hearin monks stake claim to every thing that has mnk on it. There is a reason y there are several classes on this, and other items, and its cause they can ALL equip them. but u guys dont seem to grasp this. alls u read is THIS SHOULD ONLY GO TO A MONK!!!!!!! when infact this is great for most of the classes that can use it. As for other options, at 20 there arent many, hes not gettin plane items or high lvl nd items. so that leaves this, dragonhide armor(and if u ever saw a half elf in it ud understand its not an option) and tolans but sence this is 35k give or take 15k and tolans is 140k its not realy much of and option. So to get to the point monks get over the fact that things are starting to apear with mnk on it and realize that u dont have no more claim to this than any other class on it. btw i was fightin in here at 49 with my main and at that lvl most ppl dont have their plane bp or traks bp so yes id say even war have a right to this if they dont ahve there masive ac items yet.
still a good BP at level 58
# Apr 29 2001 at 1:08 PM Rating: Decent
Not all of us clerics have our BP from Hate. I'm level 58 and i'm wearing a seb coat. The STR WIS is the same, but the AC is higher and the resists trade off is good in my opinion
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 26 2001 at 9:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sheesh some people are idiots.Unless it states MNK / Hum/ISK etc etc etc then it is an item that all listed claess can use not just jumped up monks lol. Some guys think if they are 60th lvl then they are cool IRL .*shakes head*
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 5:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I went to DN once now, wearin a treeweave...jsut cuz you can get there doesn't mean you got better then this BP...I want this thing somethin fierce, didn't get it on the first trip...maybe next time ;)

# Apr 25 2001 at 6:38 AM Rating: Default
Heh, I've got news for you, at level 54 my weight is only 9. adding 5 lbs isn't going to do anything to hinder me. Now if I add this with my 10.0 tranquil staff, yeah...then it isn't great, but overall its still a pretty kick butt chest peice.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 12:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is NOT a monk item!!
RE: monk item?
# Aug 05 2001 at 11:48 AM Rating: Decent
My monk would love this item, and DOES have the weight for it. His heaviest items are Idol of the Thorned (4), Oiled Greaves (1.5), Barbed Dragonscale Boots (2.5), Efreeti Ice Staff (4.5). Almost all my other items are 0.3 or less, and my weight limit is 20 now that I am 55. I will admit I would rather have the Ice Burrower Skin however, but it is MUCH more difficult to obtain. I am wearing Robe of the Lost Circle now, and even if I removed my Idol and wore this phase spider chest, I would still be increases most stats. The Tranquil staff may be nice, but I prefer my Efreeti Ice Staff since it weighs less than half and performs almost as well.

# Feb 18 2001 at 6:28 PM Rating: Default
Ok its plane and simple, by the time your able enough for anyone to get this (except for buying it of course) any other class will have a bp better than this.
So what do you expect for monks to get excited when they see a monk wearable 28 ac chest item for a kinda low 5 weight. And its not like a when a warrior is the lvl to get this item wants it anyway, cause you know they are gona have an indo, cobalt or berserker bp anyway (or another kind of bp with ac around that amount)

So this is a monk item, and it belongs to monks. period. ;)

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 06 2001 at 11:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That is just about as stupid as saying that the Necklace of Superiority is a class specific item... my goodness... it is a good monk item yes, don't try and think that the monk is going to get first loot because it is a "monk item." OK I'll go on and wear my 11 ac shiverhide jerkin (thx Verant), and you get this piece. Of course, you'll have to do the pulling then. Enjoy.

Thorny Ivy? oh, no wait, 26ac, hmmm, you would be hard pressed to find a Ranger with higher AC than this. Not that I care, I mean, when I go in, I will love to get one, but if a Monk gets it, fine with me, heh, it is good for everyone, but if they use their tranquil staff on top of it, I might have to bonk them ;)

every once in a while an item like this comes along. many classes able to wear it but id have to agree that this piece has "monk" written all over it. our adventure here granted us one and it was awarded to guess what - a Monk ;)

not sure why folks dont see that most every other class will have better by the time they get to goto DN (maybe those who dont understand this havent gone, in which case i can understand). im not saying that everyone will have better because i myself didnt. but i also understand that this is a very good item for a monk so thats where it went
