I dont think you get how monks and AC work.
Your total AC = AC from your armors X AGI.
With 28 AC and AGI 8, I think you still get some extra AC.

Monks can still get a decent amount of use out of this thing if the rest of their gear is light. At level 55, my weight limit (most I can carry without AC penalty) is 18, and this only put me over that by 1. But agi and ac more than meade up for the penalty. And in 5 lvls my weight limit goes up enough to cover the weight of this.

Sure, a monk doesn't want several items that weight this much, but a monk can afford just this.

id put this on my monk any day who cares about the wt the ac is well worth it. and if u oppose me then u must not have a monk. this is about double the CCS which most monks have until they get their No Drop quest robe (forget name) and that still doesnt have even close to this ac. id would keep this on my monk until he gets a fungi or epic robe which sux compared to this.
RE: Screw the wt
# Apr 18 2002 at 9:45 PM Rating: Default
You forgot the name of your robe? *laugh*
Anyway. The Weight matters more than you think (little less at higher levels) Also, Fungi is a joke.

This post is not ment to flame, I agree the ac is good but:

16 ac, 5str, 5dex, 5stam, 5agi, 45hps, ALOT cheaper, alot better looking is nothing to sneeze at (flesh tunic) Personaly, I just dont like the look, the weight. Its great for many classes too though...

I just thought that a 'monk' who forgot the name of their 'no drop robe' was kinda funny. But on top of that thinks 'epic robe'(wich isnt the end of your epic QUEST) or even the no drop robe (RotLC, RotWF) 'sux' compaired to this was a joke.

Ill take the haste and stats of those robes over the POS carapace here.

And yeah, im a monk.

" Also, Fungi is a joke. " Care to explain that little bit of wisdom? Fungi is probably the best BP any FD puller would want for most situations...
RE: Screw the wt
# Aug 01 2002 at 10:35 AM Rating: Default
I'm not him but I can answer that. I grouped with a level 60 monk friend for months and we fought all sorts of difficult mobs and difficult pulls. Then one day he lost his fungi, a friend who had loaned it to him for a long time wanted it back. Guess what? There was almost no difference in pulling ability without the fungi. A good monk doesn't really need it. Fungi is the most over rated and over priced item in the game except for twinks who want to level up fast solo.

Anyway, just my perspective from my experience.

have you ever soloed a monk? ever? ever? lol I know from personal experience, that with bind wound ability high enough to do 75%, while using mend, disc's, ect, while using a Tstaff; a Fungi makes soloing so much easier I think I'd ball for a week if I lost mine (just FYI I usually use it for soloing spiders in Velks)

I have soloed a monk ,and can say from experience, monks SUCK at soloing, hehe. Unless you have seriously uber gear, a monk can't solo well anywhere worth soloing. Not saying it's impossible, but it may as well be. XP comes rediculously slow. Grouping is a far more efficient way to get xp.
RE: Screw the wt
# Apr 23 2002 at 8:18 AM Rating: Decent
If you have the weight to spare its a very good chest item.

However you lose 6 AC for every 1lb you are over the weight limit. So, if this puts you 4 lb's over (old chest item being 1lb and on your limit) you are losing 24AC.. and hence it becomes completely pointless to wear it.

RotWF is better than this - but then you do not keep that robe long. If you have managed that robe it will shortly be handed in for the Celestial Fists. Then you need a new chest item again.

There are other items that are better for a monk certainly. Fungi for one is certainly better for soloing. However, good item if you have the weight to cope.

Amen. This is a great monk chest item, as long as oyu can afford the weight. If you keep the rest of your gear light, there's no reason you can't at the level a monk can reasonably be expected to get this.

BTW, 98% of monks don't solo anyway, hehe. You want to solo, go play a necro, beastlord, or druid. Monks suck at soloing, especially since the mitigation nerf.

Besides grouping is much better and faster xp than soloing anyway.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 06 2002 at 3:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wow this is a good BP too bad it has -4 DISEASE RESIST! You'll probably want to have somebody cast RESIST DISEASE to counter that -4 DISEASE RESIST because that could pose a problem what being a whole -4 and all. What's cool is that it's totally not INSANLEY STUPID to put INSIGNIFICANT stat reductions on otherwise good items.
My own experiences...
# Mar 26 2002 at 10:08 AM Rating: Default
I visited Dragon Necropolis last night with a motley crew of guildmates and friends. Only a few of us had ever been there before, and we ended up taking two full groups. None of us were especially uber - our main tank was level 53 - but DN really isn't that tough to get to, or tough to fight in. Port to Cobalt Scar, run to Siren's Grotto, abscond across to the zone safe point (which just happens to be the Western Wastes zone), then put invis and lev up and run across WW.

We killed maybe two dozen spiders, and two dragon constructs. Drops were one phase spider carapace (which I won the roll on), and one small dragonbone shard (which was defaulted to me, since nobody else would use it).

It doesn't take uber gear to raid this zone. At level 53, I was still using a dusty breastplate (ac22, 5sta, 20hp), so this thing was a major upgrade for me. My guild is small - we don't farm Venril Sathir and Trakanon every week for Kunark breastplates for everyone.

Thank you to the Order of Antondwer and Storm Legion for letting me fight, roll for, and win this breastplate. And Gremli man, any time you want to borrow it, it's all yours.

was in there last night with one group of guildies,

Me (54 Wanderer)
56 Warrior
56 monk
54 Shammy
53 Shammy
55 Cleric

Heh happened to be a raid party forming at the entrance getting ready to head to ToV who was kind enough to Spread the Chanter Lubbinz, (KEI Rules) Anyway, with just us folks, we were poppin spiders left and right, of course nothing dropped but the spider blood, but was good experience.

DN is extremely easy to get to if you have good faction with CoV ( i am ally) but if you take a group here, one thing to stress is send one in first (not the cleric :)) to make sure there are no constructs at the zone,

Once you get in, make sure you dont step on the large piles of bones, because just like those annoying decaying skellies near the tunnel in EC, these bones will form up and you will note that these are not quite as easy to beat. Cool to see though. They look like Dracoliches from the Forgotten Realms books.

If you go in to fight the spiders, try and pull them far away from the bones, the spiders will "Phase" you to a random spot, which may or may not be on top of a bone pile, the farther away the better.

just thought i would share my personal experiences :) Peace all

5.0 weight = still good for monk
# Mar 08 2002 at 2:15 PM Rating: Decent
My level 57 monk has a weight limit of 20 and almost every piece of gear he has is like 0.1 or at least under 1.0, so throwing on a nice AC 28 BP with tons of stats at 5.0 weight is pretty reasonable... I couldn't afford a fungi tunic, and I got one of these for about half the price of a fungi. This is about the highest AC monk chest available, with only the ancient wyvern hide tunic and prime healers bulwark having higher AC (the former dropped by a level 66 wyvern in ToV, and the latter I think is a GM event item only). The regrowth effect given by the Fungi Tunic makes it more desirable probably over all for MNK, but the PSC is easier to get and cheaper (with the Fungi Tunic drop rate purportedly nerfed, I've seen people asking 30 and 40kpp on my server, I got a PSC for 15kpp).

one group is not needed to kill phase spiders, only person needed there is a 60 necro who is bored really, or a 60 wiz for that matter, they can kite qite good too.

I have seen both classes farm PSCs like it was candy solo, so forget the 1 group or more thing, all that is needed is a set of solid balls and guts to solo there, the zone is not that bad really.
RE: *cough* 1 group??
# Aug 25 2002 at 5:59 PM Rating: Decent
Heheh. He's right, it doesn't take one group if you're good. Myself, my wife, and two friends decided to do something insane and try to kill one once. Here's the kicker though - 44 SK, 45 necro, 51 wizard, and 56 chanter. No healer. Now, admitedly, we didn't actually kill the little *******, but we had it down to about half a bubble of health before we had to zone out because it was being a bit of a ******* and not running. If I had been using equipment that was above the darkforge quality at the time, we would have pretty well slaughtered it. Biggest thing with them is that they hit fairly hard, and they are fairly resistant to snares. If you know about that and are prepared to deal with it, then they're pretty easy. Fairly easy fight for one melee, one healer, and one intelligence caster, as long as you stay on your toes.

te he he.... 51 bard here, just started soloing here. the entrance spiders are a cakewalk, and at 51 they're great reg exp and aa xp (yes, i do aaxp, for all those that will flame me and say lvls are more important). A full group isn't required, if your the right class, have the guts to try these things and possibly die, and want some interesting mobs to fight (not your everyday high hold keep noble / bard / guard / goblin)
no psc yet, but by the time i'm done with this zone, i should have 4 or 5, muahaha

To the best of my knowledge, monks have increased weight limits as they level up.
From 1 to 14, they may carry up to 14.9 EQ weight units (let's call them stones for convenience) without ac penalty.
at 15, it's raised to 15
at 30, it's raised to 16
at 45, it's raised to 17
at 51, it's raised to 18
at 55, it's raised to 20
at 60, it's raised to 24

I'm 58 and can get to 8 weight, fully equipped and still being a mean killing machine.

Easy to get
# Oct 26 2001 at 6:03 AM Rating: Excellent
This item really is easy to get and not altogther uncommon. My guild has managed to get a total of 4 of them in two days during just a few hours a day in the zone and also got two very good 2HP lances, one 25/30 with a bunch of stats on it and the other 32/40 with no stats. I'm not talking large uber guild raids either. The phase spiders that this item drops from are all around lvl 50, all con blue to 52, and can be easily killed by a single well organized and balanced XP group of 6 people ranging from lvl 50-55. We managed to take them rather easily with a 51 warrior, 52 rogue, 53 cleric, 56 shaman, 49 chanter and a 50 wizard, none of us what you would call 'uber' or consider as having great gear. The best part about fighting on the main level of this zone and not in the tunnels is that all the mobs are spread out rather distant from each other so it is extremely easy to single pull them. The only thing that makes these spiders any tougher from the ones found commonly in zones like velketor's labyrinth is that when they hit you they have a random chance to proc a 'shadow step' spell that randomly teleports the person hit just a little distance away. Aside from that all you have to be careful of is not to step in any of the 'bone piles' littered around the zone because a significant number of these spawn dragon constructs when you step on them, which are between lvl 54 and 55 and have a ton of HPs and very high resistances. This is a great zone for XPing in as long as you have a balanced group of smart players and are organized in how you approach it. The pulls are sometimes slow and so the XP is sort of slow, but the little bit slower XP is far outweighed by the enormous loot potential that the zone offers Also one last note, if you choose to hunt in this zone with a small group, it would be advised that you have your cleric and someone with an invis spell bind just outside the zone entrance in eastern wastes because the nearest melee bind point is far away in skyshrine, which some might be KoS in anyway. Nothing except dragon constructs, which have to be triggered in order to spawn, can see invis on the main level so the invis can drag all corpses to a point where the cleric can then rez the party in the unfortunate event of a TPW(total party wipeout). I hope this is a little bit informative, I can't wait to go back myself to get one of these BPs for myself... now that we've gotten enough for most of the guildies that didn't have better. Our guild is far from uber, but by farming amazing items such as these we are definitely improving as a whole and maybe someday will be tought of by some people as being 'uber'. I cannot wait until such a day :)

I was wearing a crusty BP before I won this in a guild raid. Any upgrade to anything you have existing is the point of this game...as a 52/53 pally...this has nice AC pre-Thurg quest, saves, and perks such as wis and str....all round nice chest piece for a pally that does not have better.

This is not one of the tuffiest zones in the game...just a pain to get too. IMHO...Kael is tuffier.

Shows as a gray plate on my High E pally.

Amen Pelican -

I'm a 52 warrior ATM, and I'm using Crafted. Why? Because it's 3 more AC than the Crusty one. 28 AC would be 6 more than what I've got with a LOT better saves.

Just because we're not all "UBER" like you and can't afford and/or get these items at lvl 30 doesn't mean that they are no good for platmail wearing classes in their 50's. AC is king, and for some of us BP and Leggings suffer becuase we can't all go raid PoG every day. =P

Just my $.02

Who are you kidding? I'm a 54th Warrior wearing and Enameled Black Chestplate. Why? It's because the Velious quest armor isn't easy to obtain unless your guild farms...which mine doesn't. Planar breastplates aren't easy to get unless your guild farms...mine doesn't. And the Cobalt breastplate, well, see how many Warriors on your server are wearing that thing. There aren't many.

I saw this item drop and it was open to anyone who could wear. I didn't roll because I wanted a monk, hybrid, or cleric to win. It would have been a nice upgrade for me. (And by the way if I won better later on, I'd roll it off to my guildmates...I would never sell this thing like some other people have suggested in these threads)

Yeah, real mature. Only a moron would post something like this on any forum anywhere on the internet. I bet your parents are VERY proud of you.

Drops off of phase spiders in the Dragon Necropolis. Looks like a darker version of PoG armor.
Where it drops
