Got one!
# Apr 18 2003 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
With much thanks to my awesome guild leader, Glaed Shadowleaf, I was handed one of these this morning. It was a welcome replacement to my Cloak of the Woven Storm.

Question: Shouldn't the graphic above reflect the fact that these can be worn by Halfling Rangers as well?

Where is this plat. tree? I wanna know how someone can honestly charge this ridiculous price. Unless there is a plat. tree.

my first attempt at this cloak last night was successful (162 skill)... just be sure to have your int/wis/dex buffs and use that Geerlock Sewing Contraption...

my second attempt was a failure, but hey, 1 out of 2 isn't bad

Eggs
# Feb 24 2002 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
Hey guys, maybe i was just extremely lucky, but i was on my first trip to ss last night, and on the way there through the wakening lands i foraged two drake eggs. My forage is 152 right now, and i forage everytime i walk forward. That's all i know, just thought i'd mention that since most people are saying that the drake eggs are hard to forage.

A great guide to foraging is available at http://www.eqtraders.com/location/foraged.htm

Very useful when you scrounge something up and have NO idea whether it's worth keeping...

According to that guide, Drake Eggs can be foraged in Skyshrine, Temple of Veeshan and Western Wastes.

It is actually 4 studs not 3 as some have said. The caps sleeves and shoulderpads require 3, but leggings, cloak, gloves and boots all require 4.

i can hunt tigeraptors, i can forage and buy the remaining items. In order for the average tailor to make me armor, if i supply all the goods...what is expected as payment for services rendered?
i have no idea, and want to be fair to the tailor, though i dont have much pp, blowing it all on fletching recently.
Anyways...if there is a tailor that can sucessfully make this aromor for me, if all items are brought to him/her by me, and you are on the Eci server, please send me a tell. Thanks

Velious Recipes on Tunare Server
# Oct 26 2001 at 7:12 PM Rating: Decent
I am Ahkma on the Tunare Server. I have a cleric, Gynob (Obgyn was rejected for his original name), who is currently a 162 skill in Tailoring. He hangs out in Freeport. As these recipes are not trivial until 235-250, he does combines free of charge to those who provide their own components.
I am currently leveling up to be his farmer for parts. He also has had great success, 20 of 26 attempts, making Fleeting Quivers. Bring him 2 HQ Lion SKINS and 2 aviak eggs and he'll give you a free attempt. Success = you get the quiver. Failure = he gets the 2nd attempt for himself.

Be well, and happy sewing.

ok if you go to eqtraders.com or sumthing like that they will tell you that u must be a master tailor and even then attempts will fail when i say master i mean 250skill and tailoring is by far the hardest skill in the game... everyone thinks that jewelcraft is the hardes there out of there mind it just cost like 20k i think to become a master nothing special... oh yea and for all you rogues there is player made armor for you its called "haze panther" mask: AC 6, CHA 3, AGI 5, HP 15, wt 0.4
bracer: AC 7, STR 5, STA 4, AGI 8, wt 1.0
shoulderpads: AC 7, STR 7, DEX 10, wt 1.5
belt: AC 8, DEX 8, AGI 10, wt 1.0

leggings: AC 9, STR 5, DEX 8, STA 8, AGI 8, wt 4.0
tunic: AC 14, STR 14, DEX 10, STA 10, AGI 20, all saves +5, wt 3.5 it is by far the best armor u will get that is not quest or plan armor... well i hope i helped you guys out good luck on trying
Failures
# Apr 03 2001 at 9:03 AM Rating: Default
After reading about this, I saved up enough money and materials to try numerous attempts at the cloak. I had someone at skill level 130 try 4 attempts at Cloak, 3 attempts on Mask, and 2 attempts on Gorget. ALL FAILED. Just wanted to let everybody know, I wouldnt let anybody else try it w/ a skill below 130, b/c obviously, it would be pointless.
how do I get the items?
# Feb 28 2001 at 11:49 AM Rating: Default
I see how to make each piece by looking at eqtraders, but what I dont know is how to obtain each item needed to make each piece. the tigerapter hide is obvious, kill tigeraptors, but, is there a high low or medium quality needed? also how do I get the velium studs, the patterns and the drake egg oil? I read somewhere that the oil is brewed, but brewed using what? Drake eggs and soemthing else? Also where do I get the drake eggs? I heard foraged, but foraged where? what zone? Thanks for any help regarding this.

Well, if you found the recipe for the armor, you just needed to look a little further down the page for answers to most of your questions. The drake egg oil and velium studs are explained further down the page.

Tigeraptor hides don't seem to have any low or medium quality, all the ones I have gotten are just plain tigeraptor hide.

Velium studs are made with smithing. You need small pieces of velium (stackable, brown in color) that most commonly are looted from orc miners in Crystal Caverns though you can loot some from other mobs in other places. You also have to buy velium temper in Thurgadin.

Velium boning is used for other velious armors, but thought I'd mention it because you will probably pick up the small bricks of velium (silver colored, non-stackable) while trying to get the small pieces of velium. You can sell these to vendors but a better idea would be to keep them (or make em into boning) so you can trade with other people who may have collected pieces while looking for the small bricks.

Lastly, the drake egg oil is brewed. One Drake egg plus a flask of water in a brew barrel. The drake eggs are foraged in skyshire as a rare forage (about 1 in 10 or 20 forages) and you may need to have forage skill of over 100. The drake eggs also drop from some of the mobs in skyshire.
Given the difficulty of getting the eggs, it's more than worth it to work up your brewing skill to 100 or so before attempting to make the drake egg oil.

Typically what I do is kill tigeraptors in Wakening lands near the SkyShire zone point and when low on health and mana, cast camo and zone into SkyShire and forage a couple times in there while I med up.

RE: HOW to make it?

Recipie (from www.eqtraders.com)

4 velium studs
drake egg oil
tigerraptor hide
cloak pattern

(recipie for studs (yeild 2): 3 small velium bits , coldain velium temper in forge)
(recipie for oil: drake egg, water in brewbarrel)
(recipie for bits: 2 small chunks of velium, coldain velium temper in forge)

Source of hide: Tigerraptors
Source of Temper: merchant in coldain rogue's guild. not cheap.
Source of Drake Eggs: Foraged in Skyshrine/Dropped off Drakes
Source of Chunks of Velium: Dropped in various dungeons
Source of Pattern: tailoring vendors. Cheap.

The Tivial level on these things is insane.

# Apr 08 2001 at 9:28 AM Rating: Default
Actually - 3 velium studs, not 4 to make the cloak. and for making the studs, 3 small bits, a FILE, and the temper.

NT means no text. For example, your post, you could have titled, "WTF does NT mean (NT)" It saves the reader the tedium of having to click on a subject only to find you wasted their time because everything you needed to say was said in the subject header.

First of all, don't bug Niami about this, all the infor you need is on the site under "Velious recipes." She is getting annoyed by far too many people for info that is readily available.

That said, the highest you can get tailoring before attempting the Velious recipes is 115. All of them seem to want you skill to be 200 or better. The components are hard to get; some are very rare (foraged drake eggs, anyone?), others just dang expensive (velium temper 36pp, and you need at least 2-3, if you have no combine failures...

Current thought on this is if you supply a Master tailor with 10 of every component, you *might* get your cloak. In other words, they are very hard to make, and don't expect a flood of them. If I ever manage to make one, I will probably ask 4-5k for it.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 10 2001 at 6:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) nothing is really worth 4 to 5 k. give me a break. prices are heavily inflated for everything these days. boycott paying these bs prices.
I do hold my breath
# Jun 22 2001 at 4:06 AM Rating: Default
Ha ha. The player that gets to the skill level necessary to make this stuff has spent somewhere over 100,000p to get there. Obviously they need a large guild and many many friends supporting them. It will take me a very long time to get to this skill, and for now, I am providing a friend with the groceries to make this and other items. Maybe someday, the combine will be successful.

For your information, the studs cost about 70p each to make. This cloak takes 4 studs.

If you can make the studs (expensive), make the drake oil (easy to make, but very hard to collect) and collect the hides (easy), you might be able to find a tailor on your server willing to press combine for you. I usually acquire parts for 4 or 5 combines before I get in touch with the tailor I have made friends with. At a skill rate of 180, these have a success rate of about 10%. Every time I meet my friend, I hold my breath, hoping that the lucky day has come.

You obviously have no f'ing clue about how insanely difficult, time consuming and expensive it is to make these, not to mention getting your skill up to the point of even being able to attempt it.

Why don't you just shove it up yer Yahoo and go camp some "phat lewt", ya idiot.

RE: Don't hold your breath

Ok there may be better out there. How rare or difficult to get? This is something an average leveled player can work his butt of to get without needing an uber guild or more luck than can be expected in a lifetime. Once you have this skill to make these recipes, the demand will maintain a pretty astounding income. The 105 skill so far hasnt been easy, damn sure once i have some of this gear if i got offered 5k for it i'd fall over laughing. Tailors stick to your guns, they want it they pay for it else they can go be tailors.

The HBC is worth 8K and that is only one more ac and it has no dex.... What i want to know is what level are these newbies err players who are saying 5k is to expencive. Look how hard it is to make this stuff and other cloaks with similare stats.. your LUCKY if they sell it for 5k.. i know I would try for more.. I know i'm a master tailor myself and think about how much time it takes to get a skill high enough to make these.. i am at a skill of 120 and increasing your skill is INCREADABLY hard to get. Just foraging the materials can take an hour just to get one... Well i hope i opened a few eyes though i dought it.. you cant teach the ignorant and all...

Right now i have over 30 hides, enough cash for the temper and most of my velium studs, all i need is drake oil and i already have people sayin they will pay 3-4k each (about 10 so far) so its not exactly hard to sell for that much, and i sure as hell wouldnt sell for less
I've sold 3 at 11kp each..
# Apr 23 2001 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
I make these to improve my skill. Of all items that can improve me past 130+ Tigeraptor is actually among the easiest. It still takes 3 weeks, and 2kp for 1 skill improvement (about 12 attempts - and I've failed 12 in a row). I am a 143 tailor. At first I just gave them to friends. One day I got a tell offering me 11kp, as word had gotten out that I make these. They person who wanted it litterally tracked me down to get it, so I sold it. The next two I made, I auctioned in EC at 11kp, each sold on the first auction. I know I could have gotten more.

What many of you fail to understand is how this compairs to other cloaks, how much dex helps the Trueshot discipline, how much more STA matters then AC against 60+ mobs, and how hard these are to make. The levels that want and need this can toss around 15kp+ like you toss around 500pp. This is not an item for newbs. Did any of you ever wonder why a Silken Catfur Girdle is worth so much? When you become 55+, you'll understand.
