Here is my experience getting the Worker Sledgemallet. I'm and ogre SK worshiping Rallos Zek. I started the quest being apprehensive to the folks at the OOT outpost. So I went to the sarnak camp at loc pos2300, neg2300 and started farming the braids from the Sarnak Berserkers. I got my factions (Venril Sathir) to amiably after turning in 88 "A Sarnak War Braid" to Captain Rottgrime.
Worked Sledgemalle and faction
# Sep 18 2003 at 7:31 PM Rating: Good
Here is my experience getting this mallet. Started out with Threatening faction. Tried the Dark Elf potion - didn't change faction at all...if it used to work it does not anymore. So I pulled Rottgrime way out of the Outpost (easy to split him from his troops as a 58 monk, do it between 10pm and 6am to avoid the guards) and had my 64 Chanter bud try to charm him. Did not work...he got resisted every time. So Chanter zoned at book and I pulled Rottgrime way out from Outpost again, FD'd and hit sneak. When he started walking away I got up and managed to turn in 8 Braids while following him (kind of hard to do since Rottgrime runs off and attacks any nearby mobs). Luckily 8 braids got me to Dubious so I at least did not have to worry about pulling him out of Outpost again. I had to turn in 200 more braids just to get to apprehensive. 80 more braids got me to indiff, and only 40 more got me to amiable so that I could get my Sledgemallet. The best place to get Braids is at the ruins in OT at -1500, +500. I was able to get about 30-40 braids (and 200-250pp in cash and gems) an hour there. Braids drop off the Bezerkers in case you don't know. Hope this helps.

Title should say Worker Sledgemallet and Faction...duh...oh well.

This is a great convenience item for all classes. I have it on bard, rogue, nekro right now.

Bard (wood elf):
Charmed the foreman to get the hammer. Did not have OOS back then so it took almost all mana until charm stuck.
When porting to OT gets 1 skeleton agro. Usually mez or charm it then selo away over the water or simply kill it.

Rogue (dwarf):
Had to hand in braids to get enough faction. Was not that hard (DE illusion mask). Collected braids while exping in OT.
Just tried out at lvl 50. Gets one skeleton agro which is easily killed (lose ~100hp, fairly twinked). Might be possible to hide before it agros, but I'm a slow zoner.

Nekro (iksar):
Used the lvl 60 charm ("always works for 30sec"-charm) to charm foreman and get hammer. Gets the skeleton to agro, just feigns it off. Very useful for farming. Bind outside OS, load up inside, proc OT, go PoK, sell, gate back to OS.

So short, if you have any way to get that hammer (and with illusion potions it seems everyone can do it) get it. It's a huge convenience to gate out at will as a melee. Nevermind your VS faction, I am KoS with all chars that use it. At the level you can proc it you're most likely able to handle the skeleton that agros you in the boat.

Finally about the boat and how to get out: When you appear in OT, simply walk backwards and you pop up the deck. Then run (*edit* run west ofcourse, east might not be wise) west and kill the skeleton.

Quick question: how do you get this to proc as a rogue?

It says ALL/ALL, but it's actually possible for a rogue to equip it and swing it, bearing in mind that rogues have no 2HB skill?
RE: Get it if you can.
# Sep 22 2003 at 6:42 PM Rating: Decent
All classes can equip and swing it yes. Bards and Rogues (with 0 2hb) just aren't good at hitting with it. Good thing that procs can happen on misses, too :)

I have a lvl 48 iksar war with this hammer. Using LoY essence of troll potions he turned in 264 bezerker whips and is now dubiously to all in the Outpost. He was still threateningly at 224 whips, and I didn't check in between (checking requires clicking off the 100+ pp illusion buff). With the buff on he's at amiably.

For any bard over 55 this is cake. Used Oclussion of Sound to pull the foreman then ran with 2min selos till i charmed it. Took 3 tries with Dotb in prime and SSS in secondary. Any drum would probably work though. Charm stuck for about 12 seconds.

I'm working on my faction to get one. With the Plane of Knowledge(PoP expansion) pedestal right outside the wall of the outpost, the whole world is just one proc away for this Beastlord Troll.

Cheers!

guys if you're like me you have an alt that is evil, or worse to low to run through DL, but say you're in luclin or velious at the docks at a low lvl, you attack your friendly Soulbinder and get your proc
RE: Think out of the box =P
# Sep 18 2002 at 6:51 PM Rating: Decent
Sadly, you can no longer attack Soulbinders via melee. This was nerfed because of people using Soulbinders to parse the DPS of their weapons. Unfortunate, it is indeed.

Of note also: if you're too low to be running through DL, you can't use this hammer anyway, since it does not proc until Level 50.
Sad story, a tad off topic

I've completely trashed my VS faction, so even with my mask of deception, I am now KoS at the DE outpost in OT. Add my faction song and I can get to "Glares at you threateningly," which is a long long way from the "amiable" faction one needs to get this hammer. Not wishing to spend the countless hours it would take me to farm the 200+ war braids it would take to get my faction up enough to do this quest, I looked for a shortcut.

The Undead Foreman is incredibly resistant, and as a level 52 bard, out of about 40 attempts, I only landed my charm on him once, and it lasted for about 3 seconds.. I had a druid friend try to root him, so I would have a better chance at turning in the jade if I could charm him again, but my level 58 druid friend could not land root or snare on him. Next, I had a level 56 enchanter friend group with me and charm the forman. He had no problem charming him, but the highest the charmed Foreman ever conned to me was "indifferent." The same was true with somone else in the group who had "dubious" faction with the Forman initially. So just being in a group with the enchanter didn't work. The last trick we tried was to have the enchanter debuff the Foreman down with Tash, and I WAS then able to stick charm him long enough to turn in the jade and receive the hammer. Sadly, my other friend with the dubious faction, can not charm, and was not able to get this cool toy.

This hammer is really a wonderful way to get to kunark without having to wait on teleport pads, and you're never more than a boat trip away from the firepots in Timorous. This hammer has really opened up the game for me.

When the hammer does proc, it does put me INSIDE the broken boat that the skelly workers are working on. The only way out that i've found, is to climb up the inside wall of the boat, to the front or back of the boat, and not the sides. As soon as I pop in, a greenie skelly worker does attack me, but he's not much of a threat, and I have always been able to get out of the boat and run out safely over the ocean before things got too interesting. Someone posted something about a Dragoon also being known hang out there at times. This would defnintely make things more interesting, so I would suggest having some sort of speed and levitation already up before you try to get this hammer to proc.

So let's get this straight... I'm in the middle of combat and it's starting to hit the fan. Running is not an option so I whip out my OT hammer, start swinging, and hope that it procs and transports me to the relative safety of the OT outpost? I just got mine the other night and haven't played with it yet, but if it is a proc and not a right-clickable effect, then I'm starting to think the value of this item isn't what I thought it was. I was hoping that I could just carry this around and right click it at whim for a fool-proof x-loc. Any insight on this subject, maybe a suggestion of more efficient utilization would be much appreciated.

Well, I may not have a better way for you personally to use this, but my alt enchanter is about 2 levels away from the effect working on this item, and here is how I intend to use it. (Oh by the way, for all of you enchanters out there, I'm sure you already thought of this but use your faction spells and pick up this item, it will make you popular if what I am thinking here works.) Also note you have to be a class able to gate BACK to do this, or you are in for a long run :)

Ok, so lets pretend I am at a fairly difficult to get to spot with a group, most likely some friends and I camping something. Perhaps a dungeon, or somewhere else you don't want to run out of by yourself. We dont have a porter with us, we have to fight our way in, and fight our way out (or run through several zones to get to a town, etc). We are running low on food, we have tons of loot to sell off to merchants, tons of cash we need changed into plat but don't want to lose our camp, etc. Have everyone give you a bag or two of loot to sell (or trade them bags for the moment), and all their spare change they need converted (obviously keep track of this, how much per person or whatever, in my case we are all usually splitting everything evenly anyway, just divide the profits from sales evenly). Oh and if you can, get a STR and possibly a DEX buff to make things easier on you :)

Find a place close to camp that is (fairly) safe to bind, perhaps just outside of the zone, this is situational. Often in my case I know that we arn't going to get killed where we are camping, and feel pretty safe binding right there. Sometimes I know better and bind at the zone, it may be 3 or more zones away from merchants however. Wherever you are binding, take a tank or someone with decent hit points with you.

Cast haste then Boon of the Garou on yourself if you are an enchanter for the 100 added DEX it offers (yes, I know the time to wait for this spell to get up is 3 minutes, but mem it while you sort out all the loot you are about to sell). With boon on myself I get over 200 DEX, which obviously will help this item proc fast. Next, /duel your tank you dragged along. If you are having trouble hitting him, just have him try to keep sitting down, hitting someone sitting works almost constantly. He might get hit with your little life-tap proc before this goes off, but it isn't much, 28-30pts. Then BOOM your Overthere proc goes...

Ka-blam! You are in OT. As a gnome agnostic enchanter, I am NOT KOS to anything in OT. I haven't been since I first came to OT. I did kill lots of varied things before coming there, but did not intentionally do any faction stuff (got my hammer with faction altering spells). I'm not sure how this will work for anyone else, but I have bumped into other gnome enchanters that have had similar results. Most likely if you have the hammer, you did faction work. Obviously if you charmed, etc to get your hammer you won't be doing this to sell. If you are an enchanter and normally KOS to the skelly on the ship you could try mez, then an OT friendly illusion, memory blur, and get away from the mob that is there when you gate in. I havent had to do that so I am just throwing ideas out there.

So with high enchanter CHA, and perhaps an illusion to help faction a bit, you will get as good of prices here as anywhere else for selling stuff. Most likely you will get better prices than anyone in your party! Sell, hit the bank and change over coin, buy all of the food and water you and your party need etc (someone is likely to be able to summon food, but just an example). Then when you are all set, you gate back, and distribute the coin out (/split).

You just did the job of the druid/wiz that could port to a town and sell and gate back, and most likely got better prices for the stuff you sold.

You are going to have to walk out of where you are bound to, but so are your tanks and other non gaters unless you get a port anyway, and this just made you all some extra coin for not destroying loot, and saved the spot you were camping perhaps.

If you are solo farming greens or something, you can always bind someplace close, get out your port-stick, and hit em till it procs, go sell, gate back. Also if you are the only one that is leaving a group, you can /duel the tank to get this to work, go sell and log off, ready to gate back unencumbered with a sack full of food and water for tomorrow or whatever.

It WILL NOT save you from death by porting you out, but in a pinch, you have a GREAT way to bank, sell, and gate back if non KOS in OT. Of COURSE though, watch that faction, or you may be in for a nasty suprise!

Sorry about the long post :)

RE: It is a proc, right?
# Nov 06 2002 at 6:59 PM Rating: Decent
Not to nitpick, but... the comment about "getting as good of prices here as anywhere" is not quite accurate. The OT vendors are "cheap" vendors, who overcharge and give little in return for sold items. This makes OT a very poor place to offload loot.

HOWEVER, there is a port to the Plane of Knowlege just outside the outpost, near Alchemist Granika. The merchants there will pay you just fine.
RE: It is a proc, right?
# May 03 2002 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
Use it as a quick way to Kunark. If you need to go to Kunark, start wacking green creatures till it procs. You will be in OT much faster then it would take to boat. Good for us not porter types.

Opps I did forget to mention in my post above that it *does* work over and over, there are no charges, at least not anymore. Even if there were, you could use it a bit like the Thurgadin gate potion. Keep one on you, use when needed, get another. With the Thurg gate potion you need to have the supplies in the bank to make another potion before you leave, but with this little beauty, you would just need the faction to get another. Since it works over and over you don't have to worry about it anyway. Even getting this the first (and only) time is super simple, you just have to hand the correct NPC a jade(?), which is sold in town and with great CHA and faction sells for something like 2pp or less.

It took about 8 hours solo, but I managed to complete this quest as a Bertox worshipping Gnome. I farmed out 96 braids to get from Apprehensive to Amiable, and was surprised to see a sliver of XP per 4. Some of the Sarnaks at the Southern ruins were blue, too - I rotated the 2 and 3 spawn buildings, the 4 spawn made me nervous. Good luck folks, it CAN be done!

I hear that KoS bards have been getting this by pulling then charming the foreman. A bit risky due to the high resistance on the mob and short duration of the song but I have heard of it done.

Where exactly is the port arrival spot? It sounds like its in a wrecked ship, or something, where you could just swim to shore away from the outpost. Is that correct?
RE: Bards
# Dec 28 2001 at 4:23 PM Rating: Decent
I did what you described just last night. It took me about 20-30 tries before the charm stuck. Fortunately there is a small flat spot right next to his spawn point that I could basically kite him while trying to get the charm to hold. The charm held just long enough to give him the jade and get the hammer. Of course he quickly came to his senses and whacked me for 120. I just ran out over the ocean (levitated) and camped. I don't know what would have happened if he broke the charm before the give button was pressed. I would take a some extra jade just in case. The proc drops you into one of the boats down the beach from where the undead foreman spawns. It took me a minute to figure out how to get out of the boat. (you run up the bow and pop thru the deck) The skelly in the boat with me was not very friendly either but only hit me for 58 max.

Human Monks are not KOS at the outpost unless you have either been killing the Ogres in TD or you are not Agnostic. Humans that are agnostic are not KOS there so just kill Berserkers and turn in the braids to build faction, it will help your pricing at the outpost anyway.

1. It will poof.
2. The undead marines that stand next to the forman are undead (see through IU) and the forman, is live (doesnt look like it, but sees through invis, not IU)

basically, nothing we can do.. get an amulet of necropotance and turn in braids hehe.

RE: Monk Item

Amulet of Necropotance dosnt work, they removed the faction changes by using skeleton illusions so you can no longer become non-kos just by going to skeleton form.

when you disarm the sarnak berzerkers that are holding the braids, the braids (which are no drop) drop on the ground. i have personally picked one up, much to my surprise (had to destroy because, well, its no drop and im a HEF =D). just because an item is no drop doesn't mean it can't be on the ground.

Same with the indifferent dwarven lady at the docks when my DE rogue hits ButcherBlock. It was probably some smart person at Verant who decided that they didn't want all the evil races without invis/hide-sneak getting slaughtered their first day to a new continent that decided the same thing about good races. :)

To the posteer below that wanted to know when the best time for a "good" race to port into OT is. It's at night. At night all the dragoons will leave the Outpost and travel the path from the Outpost past Skyfire to the Frontier Mountain Ledge.

This will greatly reduce your chances of meeting a Dragoon in the Outpost.
