Tourist Merim went by at PoK and after a bit talking (it seemed no GM but more automated...) he gave me Mum's Pie, Chocolate Ice Cream Float and The Dragon Slayer Mask.. very strange... he asked if I got my weapon from a dragon... lol... Mask is crap in todays EQ (esp for a lvl 85).. was a bit surprised... funny - to let you know..

Tourist Merim is a guide, who's running a guide quest. Sometimes they run around area's and poke people. :-)

RE: Melee?

as a ranger with this item, i can say, it does NOT work on weapon procs, in or out of the level limit. Example:
Call of Fire, level 55 DD proc (within limit). Does 65dmg without ID3. Does 65dmg WITH Id3. No change.

I wonder if it only works on weapons with a built in proc and not a spell that causes your weapon to proc?
RE: Melee?
# Sep 06 2003 at 4:02 PM Rating: Decent
Focus items don't work on either weapon procs, or innate procs like Shroud of Death. (Although certain AAs, like Soul Abrasion, DO work on innate procs.)
RE: Melee?
# Jan 27 2004 at 4:32 PM Rating: Default
Actually, I do believe that a focus effect will work on a weapon proc or clicky but only if you have the spell already scribed into your spell book.

Put one of these little masks on my lvl 1 shadowknight and equipped her with a Takish-Hiz Sandworker club that procs Lifedraw at lvl 1. Obviously, I do not have this spell scribed in my book, but the mask still 'glowed' when activated, and made a marginal difference in damage (at low levels, I do not receive full benefits of weapon proc, but after testing, the mask does help in the amount of harm I can deliver).

Not sure, but I think that it works on procs for those spells that are of the same class. For example, if I had a weapon with a DD proc that was normally a wizard spell, I'm not sure if it would improve the damage output of that proc.
RE: Melee?
# Jan 06 2003 at 6:20 PM Rating: Decent
Focus items, like this one, only apply to spells, not melee. If you want to do more damage im melee, get items that improve stength or attack (vengeance). Or more haste. Or a better weapon =)

Aloha all and well met

Just a few passing thoughts on this item as I work to refine my rangers equipment.

Once upon a time, before IDIII, this was considered by some to be the best ranger mask that most rangers could afford. Post IDIII, however, most rangers have dis-reguarded this item because of cost, or other masks that have better AC or stats or have opted for the haste eyepatch of plunder.

I offer that this is still a situational mask that can increase the DPS during certain encounters. As I am still a young warder on a younger server, I have now started facing mobs that have a much higher AC than the velious dragons, or have a 400 atk debuff AOE that tends to severely limit my archery DPS :-( That coupled with LOS issues (be it the fat ogre in your way or the 23 mezzed mobs that you do not want to wake up) means that we can not always take advantage of our AM+EQ superior firepower. Spellcasting may help to bridge the DPS gap.

Thinking it through, I have considered that with this mask, coupled with mage bracers, and spell casting Fury, Rangers can see crits of almost 1000 with their calfection spell. Considering the addition of PoP spells, and additional AA abilities available, rangers could see a remarkable increase in their DPS via spell casting.

This is the only dropable ID3 item that a non-wizzie can use, so it is sought after a lot. I know I will be seeking one :-)

Happy thoughts and play your character the way you envision her.

Bloody monk this - monk that. What enables you to survive? Casters. I don't even play a chanter - but it's got 'Enchanter' written all over it. Followed by wizard of course, only after the chanters get their fix though.

*lusts after the ID 3 - but plans of going after a different item so as to not **** the world off*

Enchaters, Monks? Why? AC: +15 & Cha: +5, there are better items. Str and Agi? Who can't use more, Rangers want this because of that. 50 Hitpoints? Well who won't want a few extra hitpoints every now and again. Please don't say be cause of the resists. For 2K or so you can get a blue diamond mask.

Please explain why an enchanters first.

If you are thinking nukes then you are not really an enchanter. When we group/raid enchanters are asked not to waste any slots on damage. They are expected to put up charm/mezz/blur plus short duration buff haste/boon type spells.

Nukers are limited to Wizzies and Mages. Wizards first because of the efficency and wide range of nukes they have, but a Mage with this can do some good.

Many casters have nukes. For example, Necros have poison based nukes but that is not their main job. Enchanters have very bad mana efficient magic based nukes.

You can't decide based on what a class does every once in a blue moon. You have to decide on what part of their job it covers. A wizzy's main job is nukes. A mage's main jobs include nukes and pets.

If I am on a raid and anyone other than a wizzy or mage tries to take this the raid assumes their trader has a free slot in the Bazaar.

Its funny to see all the flaming that went on about this a year ago.
Before they added the focus effect, this was not a druid/wizzie item. Not at all.
But, now with Improved Damage III, this is pretty much ONLY a druid/wizzie/mage item.
There are very few items with ID III on them, so getting one is few and far between, and anyone else getting this is just wasting that rare effect.
RE: Classes?
# Aug 17 2002 at 6:31 AM Rating: Default
if anyone was willing to sell one of these, i wonder how many limbs i'd have to give up to buy it =0
i'm a druid, and improved damage 3 would make for some super quad kiting. every 5 lightning blasts would be as good as 6, throw in an obulus death shroud (which i've seen going for 13k) and you've got 10 nukes for the cost of nine dealing as much damage as 12 nukes... a very nice 33 percent improvement. now to get the 50 or 100k or whatever needed to buy one of these... lets see... 3000 hill giants should do it

point system
# May 03 2002 at 7:36 PM Rating: Default
This is a bad **** face piece. The point system is needed, no animosity erupts from decisions on who gets what. There was a very good guild on my server that fell victim of this and they lost a lot of members, they did not use point system, now there members are with valon or majesty. Valon does points dunno bout Majesty. Happy hunting.

point system?

not always and all guilds
# Jan 10 2002 at 7:18 AM Rating: Default
Not every guild would not roll on this. A sensible guild would let melee types roll on this item. Just because someone is not in an "uber" guild does not mean they don't know anything about guilds or the game. True many uber guilds have a leader that chooses who loots what, but one being in an uber guild does not determine how much they know about the game. You are lvl 52 monk I doubt u are in a guild that is "uber" so I guess u don't know about the game =P
RE: not always and all guilds
# Mar 20 2002 at 1:49 AM Rating: Decent
IMHO you are both wrong. Guilds that can kill Yeli usually do not "lotto" on items unless they arent that "uber" to that guild. If a "uber" guild is killing a mob and something "uber" drops, the way they determine who gets what is usually by a points system. To my knowledge most guilds that are into the "end game" use point systems to cut back on the feeling of favoritism and go more towards distributing loot based on participation. If you have a points system that works well, then you usually have no problems like the fighting that goes on here. Take notice to the guild that posted the pic for this item, Afterlife. I would bet money that they do not lotto items or dictate them, they prolly have a points system implimented.

As far as this item itself, its pretty nice.

ive seen alot of posts on all types of items on this site and others. i have noticed that most people who post have no clue about the game. also they obviously are not in guilds that know what they are doing. when you go on a raid to kill someone like this the guild leader/raid leader decides who gets the items that drop. you dont roll on this stuff.

I am a lvl 57 wizard on TP and also had a 50 wiz on tallon zek prekunark. No idea why you would want this. First of all, its from a dragon which is hard as a **** to kill. He requires like 50+ people who are 55+ lvl. This mask is not very good, i use a regular, enchanter made resistance mask for ac doesnt do anything for us, if youre stupid enough to cast on a mob as its being pulled and get summoned and killed in two seconds, then youre a ******* moron, you start casting a lot later depending on the mob that youre killing but pretty much any mob will require a wiz to nuke at approx 80% of mobs life because the wizard class is the only class that does the same amount of dmg to any mob with high ac or low or any type of resistance. AC for wizards doesnt make sense at all to me, we should not be getting hit by anything but AEs in which case you should be looking for resistance gear not AC. I have talked to a few wizards on my server, some agree with me 100%, some are striving for that AC and hps. Think about it, if a mob like Yelinak summons you, you're f*cked. You have 0 chance to live for it will kill you in less than one round. This is IMO so flame me or dont flame me, i dont care

WOW... i didnt know all other casters spells were based on our AC and resists... gee... better change my gear so i can start tapping for more damage... wait... i already tap for full damage, regardless of AC or resist... OMG! so does every other caster... j00 fricken... nm... i wont even start on you but... just please, dont insult your own intelligence... it just makes you look like the moron that you say others are. And oh yeah, for a 57, you arent so wise... getting around 2k hp as a caster should be a goal, just in case your resists dont hold up as you should pray for them to. Gives the cleric more time to heal you, as the AoE wont take as large a chunk of your HP.

Not much of a flame, but if Denzalo, the monk that pulls for AfterLife, not sure if you know who they are, but they are one of the top 5 guilds in the game. So, if it is good enough for him, it is good enough for anyone else that has the luck to win it.

Just because something weighs less that 1 doesn't mean it is "OMG UBER MONK ITEM! MONK GETS THIS IF DROP LA~!"
In that case, anything that gives stamina is "OMG UBER WARRIOR ITEM! WARRIOR GETS THIS IF DROP LA~!"
I'm tired of every item dropped, that has a weight of less than 1, instantly be called a monk item. I have seen people say that stuff that monks can't even wear is a monk item. Wtf?
Something is for a monk if the monk deserves it. Not just because it weighs very little and theres a monk around.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 31 2001 at 6:16 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'll let you know why the monk needs it more than your stinking ugly druid. The monk goes out to PULL the mobs you want to kill. To do that to his best, he needs the most AC and HP he can get. And if you ever manage to level above 40, you MIGHT find out that resists count as well.
