Dark Ember
# Oct 23 2002 at 12:11 PM Rating: Default
A kind stranger gave me a Storm Hammer in North Ro when I was a Level 9 Druid and I kept it - hitting for about 10 or 20 - until I was in my 40s! On reviewing my equipment for Wis stats, I realized that I should check out a new weapon.

Dark Ember! I love this thing and I often hit for 50. That is good even by some tank standards.

I agree that a Druid should nuke for 440 before being eaten alive hitting for 50, but I do melee. If I am in a group and oom without C, it is better to melee and try to help than to med if things are going bad. That little bit of help finishing off a mob can save someone's life and my health is still usually full at that point so the mob can hit me for a while to give the tanks a break. I also melee when soloing with C3 because a snared mob does not hit back just before it dies (if you melee them from behind) and I can clobber it while my mana regenerates. The next pull will be that much sooner because I didn't use another nuke when it was not needed. I don't chase things though. Fear kiting is an out of control method that just creates dangerous trains. IMHO

Plus, somedays it just feels good to hit something.

I am a 55 druid, and i currently use a Dark Ember (I need JR and Fay for epic)
I melee... basicly never, the DE is a 13/32
Its way to slow to be useful and i miss alot, my offence is about 196 and 154 or so 1hb. ive never hit for 50 and useually do 36 max... casters dont get damage bonuses so you cant really do more then that. If you dont have Clarity you should be meding when your not casting, and you should never let yourself get to 0 mana, even if your healing. Seriously, if your not healing druids cant do much in a group, so you shouldnt be going OOM. As for meleeing when they are running, yeah, sure if you have the mana, and why would you nuke it in the first place? Seriously, thats what dots are for, if my dots die before the mob does and it has like 1 or 2% HP left i dont spend 250 mana on an over kill nuke, i just root it. Useally 160 damage is enough to even kill an Ely at 1 or 0%. Also, if you dont wanna root use the Elder Spiritist Vambraces for a free Drone of Doom, which you should be using anyway.

errr... ok bud im sorry but it IS better for you to be medding back up to get some mana to keep the MT healed OR succor your group into the zone safe spot, with a druid in the group there should b no reason n e one would RUN in a situation unless they are RIGHT next to a zone point
RE: Dark Ember
# Mar 05 2004 at 7:24 PM Rating: Default
Druid melee'ing err. Please start medding. And a druid should NEVER be oom. I always stop casting or whatever if im really low on mana and keep mana for a succor ... always. Near oom, start to med , dont melee, even if you think its useful, believe me its not.

Druid weapons
# Sep 16 2002 at 4:27 PM Rating: Decent
While I would not go out of my way to obtain this weapon, if I happened to collect the items while doing PoA raids, I would turn them in just because I could. And I'm not one to complain about a primary-slot item with 9wis when I don't yet have my epic, which will cost me 30k on Vazaelle because the jade reavers needed for the druid epic are camped 24/7 by money-grubbers.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 16 2002 at 11:58 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It seems to me that any druid who can get this will be able to obtain the epic with ease. The Epic has better stats, better effect. And for finishing off a mob, there is nothing better then ES arms.
RE: ???
# Mar 16 2003 at 7:21 AM Rating: Decent
Obtain epic with ease? have u even LOOKED at what is needed to get the druid epic? take my word for it this would be WAY easier to obtain then the epic
RE: ???
# Aug 16 2003 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
the druid epic is easy, you can solo half the stuff at lvl 40 and once you get to something you can't solo, get a group and go "exp'in" and you can get all your pices, no porblem, only hard parts are venril sathir (sp?) feydedar (sp?) and the jade reaver

the druid epic is possibly the easyest to get, thats why its not as good as all the rest

i am almost dome with my druid and i get about one pice a night, and i am not in an overly uber guild, my guild is good but not uber, so you don't need much to get the druid epic, the druid epic would be easyer for the fact that the mobs drop the items all the time, not randomly like this pice's mobs do
hmmm
# Oct 02 2001 at 3:09 AM Rating: Default
not a BAD weapon for a druid, but then again, I haven't seen a GOOD weapon for a druid either... even the epic has some things to be wanted, ie it gets resisted like a muther

Well, I carried around a vel etched stone mace for awhile back in butcher kiting dwarves to get rid of those pesky goblins who agged on me even in wolf form while I was medding, but that was then...

Nowadays the only zone I'm in where I'd need a weapon like this is EC in the tunnel selling, and I am the last person that mob will agg on, if you catch my drift...

Where I got the goods,

Efreeti Scimitar: Noble Djorn, 63+
Fire Sky Ruby: Island 7, drakes
Lush Nectar: Island 6, bees
Storm Sky Opal: Island 8, Eye of Veeshan, 63+

unfortunately the weapon is nothing more than a toy if you've completed your epic

Personally I think this thing kicks so much ***! I mean if your a soloing druid you know that once you get the mob down to a certain % of hp it runs, but if its snared it won't fight back if you melee, i used to have a springwood club but switched to Spirit Tome for looks and more wis. But i will attempt this because 180dmg right off instead of casting DoD from my ES arms beats *****
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 27 2001 at 8:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ES vambraces are used for this role...u dont need to melee with this stupid schimmy
RE: dumb ass
# Aug 02 2001 at 7:23 PM Rating: Decent
Don't need to melee with this Stupid scimmy!?!?!?!

Hmmm. yes ES vambraces have this right click effect. But the 9wis and 50 mana is great combined with an actual weapon that procs.

Imagine if Rangers could use this. woah now that would be nice

No wonder youre a jackass. "jackass"
Good Effect

182 damage (even if you have to melee to get it to work) is very good for an effect on a weapon.

druids don't melee

listen to me....

To the person who says

"The concept that people have of druids NOT meleeing is flawed. Should a late game druid melee all the time ? No, of course not, medding for mana is usually much more effective.

However, I find that tossing a couple of swings of a scimitar can finish a mob off quicker than medding for another casting of Drones of Doom."

but look at the numbers.

melee types...

They can deal a good 2k worth of damage per fight.

the end game depends on it.

lesser melee (bards)

they can do 1k in a fight, if they have the top notch equip, or if they can get their dots/DD spells off.

I have a druid...a level 52 druid.

I am no expert on druids....and, at one point I felt the same way you did...

Druids can tank...i've seen then hit things just as good as anything else.

But tell me somthing.

When you have C2, and mana song....it takes you about 15seconds at the most to get up enough mana to cast 1 starfire.

that 1 starfire does 600pts damage. resistances doesn't mean jack in this instance because combust, and starfire are of the same spell type.

So.

Do you think that your scimitar will proc 3 times in that 15seconds?

What about that melee that could really use a heal. Afterall....druids are the second best healers in the game.

What if your group needs a gate out?

This weapon is good....nice wisdom...nice mana...Proc is good, but you won't use it.

Druids are casters....not melee.

The only time you will use the proc, is....

if you are soloing, and the monster is running, and you want to save a little mana, while killing the monster off quickly.

Also, medding for mana for one more cast of drones of doom.

See, you have to be level 46 to obtain this item.

By 46, if you don't have some ES armplates....then you have some serious issues that you need to work out.

elder spiritist arms are so common, they go for about 1k.

I have a level 55 bard, a level 52 druid, and a level 42 warrior. Money isn't anything...3k isn't anything.

you save up a couple a weeks, and you got em.

Elder spiritist arms are clickable drones of doom.

druids have no reason to melee unless they want to increase their skills.

I also take that back, because they might melee in a PvP situation with another druid.

but in regular group situations, you are back up everything.

you are the groups pillow...

you gate them out if there is trouble.

you heal if cleric is oom.

you nuke if you don't have a nuker.

you buff if there isn't a buffer.

but you don't tank if there isn't a tanker.

i'm done....i'm tired.

nite everyone =P

Combust, eh? That's 182 points of fire damage (or so, varies a bit by level.) Very, very nice scimitar, with a pretty impressive proc. Of course, a druid of that level does next to no meleeing, but hey, there's always the Wis on the item

I first off appollogize if this sounds like a flame, because its not...

Are you a druid ?
If so what level ?

The concept that people have of druids NOT meleeing is flawed. Should a late game druid melee all the time ? No, of course not, medding for mana is usually much more effective.

However, I find that tossing a couple of swings of a scimitar can finish a mob off quicker than medding for another casting of Drones of Doom.

This is a very nice weapon, especially for those of us who have decided against attempting to get our Epics.

Druids are not melee, period.
PArse your damage output sometime.
Parse a melee classes dmg output sometime.
A meleeing druid is taking up space.

Plus, longer fights, chances are you've healed or snared, or nuked, if you then get into melee range, the mob is gonna have enough agro to where he will smack you down, even if he otherwise would've left you alone.
As for finishing running mobs off, forget it, you'll be there forever. Sit down and med up a Starfire, or Scoriae, or whatever is appropriate to your level and the damage you need to finish that mob, it'll be faster.

I melee as well to finish off the Mobs that turn and run, as of yet my 1hb is maxed at 175 my 1hs a bit lower at 162 and my 2hb is horrible at 60ish some times us druids do like to melee from time to time, right now i have a Darkember and can hit up to 32 8) may not seem much but i remember when i was meleeing till 14 hitting for 5-9 8),

Shall we meet in far off lands.

the Planes quests here are found in the same zone, just go from island to island fighting the creatures till you collect all the pieces you need, turn them into the quest giver and recive your item. The Temple of Veshaan is based on this zone as far as quests, you have the "Quest Area" then you have the killing area.
