The Low Down on the Boots

Alright, I have read every comment so far and most of them refer to the boots as being worthless.

Here is my two coppers.

While fighting in Kael besides the faction and the experience I received, I was fortunate enough to be given the boots and hot even have to roll for them. Three tanks, a chanter and druid accompanied me there. As to the gems... I simply put a message in our guild chat about if anyone came across any CFE to let me know and I would be happy to compensate them with Temperance, Virtue or Aego whenever they needed them assuming I had the dots to do it. Within 3 days, I had 3 CFE and with the faction I had already in Thurg, it was easy to get the boots.

Since I have had them, I've had several, yes.. several people ask in Raid chat if anyone had any extra food and water. I was fortunate enough to have the boots and after 2 weeks of the raiding, went back to Kael and got one of the bracers to drop as well.

I'll admit the stats don't do a whole heck of a lot for wis and mana but I do fight hand to hand and I have been given a few items that I had to roll on and lost from the person who won them simply by being able to keep them supplied with food and water.

No, they are not Uber, but heck.. I do like them.

sure its terrable... but with this and the bracer it means I dont have to spend 250 mana summoning stuff everytime I login. . .

I suppose its worth getting if you get stuck with the corroded plate boot =P

Opinion

Well in my "opinion" the boots ARENT as bad as they seem.

You all think because it doesnt have the stats you desire that its worthless, and you would prefer GEBs to make up for this "n00b" item.

Fact for me is its great. Here's why:

For 1, the AC is great for a cleric, besides' Donal's Boots but it adds extra stats.

Secondly, It free's up a spell slot cause sometimes you just get asked.

Some of you think why would AC matter to a cleric? I just sit and heal.

YOU might sit and heal, but I melee, I tank adds to ghetto mez (i.e. root away) and I solo sometimes.

Bottom line is, Im a 54 Cleric with 170 some Defense with a total of 850+ AC without boots, CFE's are expensive, and 220+ Wisdom easily.
My attack is also 850+ With Yaulp IV and a 1HB skill of 175. Not to shabby. I deal well.

the corroded boots dropped for me today in kael and i beat out one other person for rolling.

the only other corroded i had at the time (hadn't turned in) was bracer. and i was pretyt excited as my faction was prolly good enough to hand it in now.. so then i got the boots i thought "WOW, i'm gonna kick *** now!"

...
...
...

then i went online to check stats and such... wow verant you are quite the ********. the bracer is very much more useful than this but easier to get and more common. these definitely not worth going into the manor in kael and doing the ring spawn. but oh well. i thought about MQing it for my bard but those boots suck too. i'll get em just for the looks at least.
Very sad...

If these boots are Cleric only and they don't have any Mana or Wisdom - then what is the point of making them Cleric only?

as you gain levels and get better gear, it gets easier to max out your wisdom. when you do that, it's nice to improve other things that have probably been lacking for your entire career, like strength, AC, hp, resists, etc.

it's not all about wis and mana!

as far as why it's only cleric-usable...well, it's awarded in thurg for a CLERIC quest! if you were a warrior and got the quest piece drop from kael along with the 3 gems, i'd guess that you'd do the warrior quest instead, unless you like keeping an armour collection in your bank.

Sorry I have to say these boots suck. If you got the PoG version, I could understand. Be better off letting a melee have these or selling the MQ. Waist of 3 CFE IMO.

BTW all the velious quest cleric boots suck, SS not much better. If you really want ac and hp, wait to drop vindi, at least they got a decent bit of HP and 5 wis. Let the melee have the quest boots.
What level is it castable?

Better than Beer
# Sep 06 2001 at 8:28 AM Rating: Decent
Actually if you are a follower of Brell, and if you become honored enough to be recognized as a Disciple of Brell, then "Boots of Forbidden Rights" + "Disciple Symbol of Brell Serilis" = "Holy Ale of Brell". This is some very potent brew, and is a pleasurable experience for all whom endure it.

Mmmm Beer...
# Jun 05 2001 at 5:09 AM Rating: Default
I'd rather have summon beer... :) although if they are going to put summon food and drink on our stuff... they could have at least given us Everfount and Cornwhateveritscalled... so that we can summon 20 at a time.. that would be more usefull and people might actually use it... but still... I would rather have the beer.. :) not everything has to be "usefull"... it is a game, meant to have fun. there are lots of items out there that are just for fun imo... Like the Eye of Zomm necklace, telescope, fireworks, etc.
I hereby pronounce you a dumbass
# Jul 11 2001 at 10:22 PM Rating: Default
Abundant food and Abundant drink are the same thing as Everfount and Cornucopia. The first two are the cleric version of the spell and the second two are the wizard version of the spell.
RE: I hereby pronounce you a dumbass
# Jul 16 2001 at 11:57 AM Rating: Good
Actually, Everfount and Cornucopia are Magician Spells and are not equivalent to Abundant Food and Abundant Drink, The magician Spells summon 20 at a time, the cleric spells summon 4.
Messed up AC
# Jan 15 2001 at 8:21 PM Rating: Default
21 AC for boots? That's pretty huge there, considering the quest gems are armor drop mostly from upper 30 low 40 mobs. That being said, it's going to be hard to give up 7 wis to switch to these if I manage to find the quest boots
RE: Messed up AC
# Feb 14 2001 at 1:17 PM Rating: Default
Depending on your base wis, AC and items that are + mana become more important at higher levels. I am assuming at 50+ that most clerics will have 200+ wis pretty easily.

I got the quest boots in Kael last night off of a level 57 giant. Does anyone know where to get the gems?
RE: Messed up AC
# Feb 04 2001 at 4:12 PM Rating: Default
I'm not sure where you have been hunting, but the only place I have seen these drop is in Kael off of 51+ giants. And that is just the armor componant. The gems are a little bit easier to get.

Aye - boots drop from giants in the Arena - we got about 6 of them one night - but CFE aren't that easy to get - at least for me. They go for about 4kpp on our server, and I saw just one dropped in Sirens Grotto.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 15 2001 at 8:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Is it just me or is veriant trying to make the right click effects more and more uneffective? Now if the effect had been summon beer, then people would really have fun with it, but water? Its not like in the middle of a epic battle you will stop and think, "hey, do I have enough water to get through this. NO. Oh god. We all gonna die!"
RE: stupid effect
# Jan 19 2001 at 11:07 AM Rating: Default
LOOOOL...yeah the effects on Bracers and Boots are a running gag..moreover...2Bracers with Summon Food. Hey i could open McClerics. :)
Its the same as Donal Bracers..Eff: Pacify..Holy ****, what will be the next? Belt with "Sense Dead" ?

Actually water is more useful than beer

Beer and stuff in this game has no use really at all. People do run out of water and food even at high level and having a fast click right click summon 4 water is a simple convenience.

You are thinking about this incorrectly. It isn't that it should have some other effect instead of abundant water, but that if not the water it would likely have no effect at all. Its a simple convenience.

Every right clickable effect on an item does not have to be uber. Summoning beer would be a joke, this is useful.
