I was gating when I saw the mob running up to me with a sexy looking weapon so I killed him and he dropped this. Was one of the Shiliskins at the Zoriles camp.

Use Ldons to evolve these babies quick. The mobs die so fast now a days and are of consistent lvl. I usually do Mob Count Ldons and get about 5 to 8 percent per. Though on my Blade of the Night Sky i was getting 35 to 50 percent per. But you get the idea.

70 bard here. i levelled my old blade of the eclipse up in two to four weeks. i was able to charm kite GE to get 20% in 20 minutes work, which made the levels on the sword go quickly. how does this mace fair ?

this thing is levelling VERY slowly. at lvl 70, a charm kite of 30 mobs in GE with a mob dying every 30 seconds gets me 1% after 20 minutes. in most group settings it takes 30 minutes to an hour of pulls to get 1%. most days i'm lucky to get 2 or 3% on this thing. soloing isn't much better, however perhaps it would level up more quickly if i were level 65. at level 70, it feels as if i get 1% every 1 AA earned, or near that. its disconcerting to say the least...
anyways, that's just my two cents. good luck, folks.

when you pick him up (from a witheran today) he sends a message to you in 'item speech'.

Skymaul, Ceremonial Hammer says, 'Hello, I am Skymaul. I am a magnificent work of art and should be treated as such. I am most useful as a spectacular ornament in any ritual. I am non-denominational, so I will be happy to attend you at sacrifices or weddings, whichever is your sort of thing. If you are not of the cleric or ritualistic type, I will accept work as an ornament over your mantle or even your upper-class tavern.'
evolution from Hole mobs

For what it's worth, soloing in the Hole requires about 12 lt blue kills at 70 (lvl 50ish, the ruined mobs and spirit of the ruins) or roughly 8 kills of the broken mobs (lvl 56-58) to get 1% on Skymaul.

I've run a couple times with veteran's double xp AA on and it unfortunately doesn't seem to affect the evolution xp rate.

I got one of these and kept track of it's evolve rate for a while when I was soloing in Grieg's. It breaks down like this:

It would get 1% after 18 kills, then the next percent after 17 kills. I noted this pattern for eight cycles (or 8%) worth of killing. That means it's fairly safe to say that 2% evolution is earned per 35 kills.

Based on this you can plan on having to kill 1,750 mobs per level, or 3,500 mobs total to max the thing out.

Comparing this to Death's Maw Dagger or Blade of the Eclipse, both of which I'd get one percent of evolution per about 1.5 kills (I only kept loose track of these weapons since they moved so quick; I only started tracking Skymaul when it was obvious how painfully slow it evolved), it then stacks up like this to max out each weapon:

Death's Maw Dagger= 750 kills
Blade of the Eclipse= 900 kills
Skymaul the Magnificent= 3,500 kills

And as to Skymaul being an intelligent weapon... yeah, it's about as intelligent as a Mynah Bird. It blurts out its insipid repertoire of annoying commentary on a horrificly regular basis. It whines about being utilized, and not much else. Though when it evolved from level 1 to level 2 it seemed to access a fresh assortment of new commentary which it then proceeded to wear out. Now if it would warn me about some kind of trap/foe/treasure in the immediate vicinity, that'd be some validation for being referred to as "intelligent".

The proc is nothing to write home about; I like the ChaoticIV on BotE and LifesapIII on DMD much better. None of them seem to be resisted overly much.

Lastly, the look of this thing when equipped (at least at levels one and two; I'm unsure if it will change at full maturity)...

Think of a cross between a tinker-toy and a pizza wheel and you get the idea. The thing looks silly.

This was good info. Rate the post!

Can you see this in the hand of some mobs? Like the shield from CC.
level up
# Dec 03 2005 at 3:38 AM Rating: Decent
ok, everyone seems to be getting different rates of exp on these evolving items. i think it is time to keep track of which mobs are being killed and see which move the exp faster. keep track of time spent, type of mob, and # of kills
Very slow evolver
# Nov 29 2005 at 11:29 AM Rating: Decent
Have had this about 3 weeks now, and have it up to 25% on the first level. After a lot of grouping with this, I have found that it does not seem to matter what level monster you are killing with this for the amount of experience that the weapon gains, it just has to do with the kills. The best xp I have gotten so far is from soloing light blue luggald's in Nadox, getting around 4 to 5% per hour for my Shaman.

Also, with regards to the inteligence of the weapon, it seems to me that it talks to me much more when I am solo than when I am grouped.

I got mine off of a Xillsfar Fighter in Stoneroot Falls.

I'm thinking this is a zonewide random drop.
How to lvl your new Skymaul

I've figured out the best way to lvl this darn thing (this works for all evolving weaps). The weapon takes a lot of xp just to get a %, so if you group, your not giving the weap that much of a chance to get any xp. I was with a group in CoD for 4 hours and got 2% on this thing... I went to GE to solo and got 3% in an hour... just so you all know. I hope that helps

evolving items raise skill
# Oct 08 2005 at 4:38 AM Rating: Default
Skymaul ceremonial hammer XP gain is incredibly slow.
COMFIRMED 3AA = 1% at level 70.
300AA = 100% = 1 level
3 level = 900 AA needed to max item.

RE: evolving items raise skill

First off there must be other factors involved in raising this thing up. Mine went up 2% from 1 AA xp solo. It actually hit 2% at about 4 yelow of the AA.

I don't believe you actually have to level up the 3rd and final level so you would only be leveling it through 2 levels to get final stats ( 100% twice not three times).
Evolving it
# Oct 07 2005 at 4:17 PM Rating: Decent
I found out you don't even need to melee with it to advance it. I went to Grieg's End to melee solo (70 Bard). After about an hour it was at 1%. Then I decided to try putting it offhand and swarm kite and sure enough it went up to 2%. I did one complete AA while I was there and at lvl 70 thats around 60+ kills so it looks like it will be a long time leveling this thing up.
Now if I was in a better xp zone I could easily do 3 AA's in the time it takes to do 1 in GE so I don't know if that will have any effect on the items rate of evolution but I will try to find out.

Experience
# Oct 04 2005 at 9:59 PM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if you can gain the xp just by using the hammer, or does it go off of the experience earned towards AA/regular xp? What I mean is, will the hammer evolve if you use it outside a group, or do you HAVE to be in a group earning group experience?

XP gain is incredibly slow - 4% in a week - I have earned 12AAs at level 70 in that time.
