Well while hunting in velks for gems for these, the CC gaunts dropped and i won the roll for them, As my cleric had over 200 wis the 35 mana for the CC is almost as good as these and the 20 AC and 10 str are better imo than the 7 cha, just ask your local chanter for a cha buff if you're really worried about the cha.
did you all stop to think of the Cha? seems like everyone forgets about how much charisma can help when buying gems. I have lvl 52 cleric and she needs all the cha she can get her hands on to lower the cost for the damn gems she buys to keep all the stinkin tanks alive. So next time you all poo poo an item think about all the stats.
Or alternatively, you could get some decent gaunts and buy a couple of decent cha items e.g. opal encrusted stein (I think), which has 25cha on it and can be used in both hands, adding 50 total. Just swap them in when selling/buying.
I wouldn't say that Gaunts of the Black are better. These gaunts are not admittdely a huge upgrade, but the 40 mana given when wis is already maxed is pretty good. And resists of any type, even minimal are valuable on PvP servers.
I am currently working on all the Thurg armor, and I probably won't be paying any pp for Crushed Lava Rubies, or crying a river if I loose rolls on Corroded Gaunts, but if I do happen to attain the items for this quest, I see no reason why I would keep my Gaunts of Black over these.
Hell, I already have 2 Lava Rubies just from rezzing people, if I win a roll on corroded gaunts, these are mine ;)
Wisdom as on poster said can be obtained in a myriad of ways but you will need a great deal of strength go carry all this armor around. its just plain heavy. Why the great weight penalty with this stuff?

First of all, at the level you'd be acquiring this item, wisdom is probably not your biggest concern. There are a myriad of ways to reach 200 wisdom, and after that it's resistances and armor class.
Second, Rites are ceremonious acts typically associated with religeon. Forbidden Rites are typically ceremonies which go against a particular faith.
Evil clerics could have just as many Rites which are forbidden as good clerics (say, it is forbidden for a cleric of Innoruuk to perform a cure disease on a subject that has been diseased by a servant of Innoruuk).
The staff of forbidden rites probably eludes more to using a necromancer resurrection rather than a holy one.
This is just a whine but does anyone else think stuff named "forbidden rites" should be for clerics? I would think for a name like that it would be better suited for a dark race/class such as a shadowknight. Just my 2cp. LOL
for one. forbidden rites refers to the ability to res, ever heard of a staff of forbidden rites off vox? has 10 charges of the 49 res. and to the regulator, this isnt junk, 40 mana gloves own when you have maxed wis
Yes I have heard of that staff. However, because the staff has charges of res does that mean the phrase "forbidden rites" represents the ability to ressurect someone? If you ask me, it makes more sense for forbidden rites to mean raising the dead like a necro or performing a dark magic ritual like an evil shaman might do. A cleric doing the ultimate healing and saving someone's life (bringing someone back from the verge of death) sounds more like a holy event or even, dare I say, a miracle. My (totally irrelevant) whine goes back to even the name of that staff. ) He, he. Just my personal opinion; no one needs agree or disagree, just being vain and posting my thoughts. LOL
BTW, I agree these gloves aren't junk. Even the AC15 is pretty nice. These are cleric gloves after all not warriors.
Cleric doesn't mean total good. A cleric is a servant to a god, and in EQ there are good and evil gods. There are also spells that clerics use which bestow powers from there gods onto others; resurection, for example, is like a defiance of godly law, and restores people to life. It's all in perspective I suppose. And, no, as a SK, Forbiden Rituals aren't what I do, I go around slaying people in the name of my god. But, hey, that's just my perspective on things.
