Aggro Is Awful

As a Pally that Pacify pulls, I swear that the lower charisma these things gives me causes mobs to aggro from a much farther range - making it hard to get into a room to pacify. I'm getting rid of them.

If you have any crustacean armor for a reduced price other than the boots and helm, send banestorm or haledan a tell on tholuxe paells.
dex nmo big deal?

As a troll SK I would take the dex over the str. You can have a str of 200 and if your dex is only 75ish what are you going to hit? Especially at higher levels. I would trade my 155str for my 87 dex. Yeah, yeah, you can get +dex rings, but there are armors out there w/o the negative dex hits.

RE: dex nmo big deal?

Let me clear this up for you guys.

STR = What you can carry, Max Damage, Chance to do closer to Max Damage, (ie the bonus in ATK rating)

DEX - Chance that you will gain skill in offensive skill types, chance to get a critical hit, chance to proc.

AGI - Chance that you will gain skill in defensive skill types, chance block, dodge, riposte and similar type skills are successful. Small bonus to AC as AGI goes up.

Things that DEX does not do: Dex does not effect, in no way, how often you hit or miss or your chance to successfully dual weild or double attack.

Things that AGI does not do: AGI does not effect, in any way, how often you get hit or missed other than the previously mentioned defensive avoidance type skills.

One amendment I have thought of.

Negative AGI is BAD. The moment your AGI becomes LESS than your BASE AGI, you start getting hit hardcore on your AC...

So lets say your using Validus Custodus Armor which lowers your AGI. If you have a base AGI of 75, and have a total AGI of 105, you can wear all the Validus Custodus stuff you want until your AGI hits 75 then stop. You will recieve no AGI losses until you have LESS AGI than your BASE.

I totally agree with you, thats why all you folks wanting to buy full set of crusty armor, should consider not buying the boots, legs, and vambraces. As a shadow knight I bought all but the crusty pieces with neg dex and bought sentient greaves, vambraces, and boots. Thats all my opinion but I think yall should take that in consideration.

Dex has nothing to do with the chance of hitting.

You ATK go up with strength, try casting strength buffs and notice the difference.

Dex help you learning skills and making crit hit, backstabbing, casting uninterrupted, that's about it.

It really depends --

Dex is a critical stat for my erudite paladin when soloing undead. With a ghoulbane and the rodcet nife spell, and trying to cast expulse undead in between strikes - dex is THE stat that save my butt. My strength is so pathetic trying to beef it up will only get my to the base level of a dwarf (90) lol.

Now fighting non-undead I'll more than likely be in a group and want some crusty armor....

Forgot the Proc. When a proc is triggered the amount of times it will trigger is based on your DEX, that's why pallys are always complaining about their GB's (it takes alot of Dex to get that damn thing to be effective). Backstabs are also related to high dex as well(just to support)

Just an FYI

I believe dex also effects double attack and other abilities. Very important for any melee/hybrid.
Good Bracer
# Jun 22 2001 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
It is really a good bracer for a Shadow Knight, a good add to the Hero Bracer.

And for cheap. Found mine for 250pp (I Think i could have it for less... but was happy so I said ok)

For Bards, there are better bracers, like the scav one, that give 5 dex instead of Str and no Cha debuff.

# May 03 2001 at 2:54 AM Rating: Default
ok at lvl 60 1 sta gives 7hp.

now, wearing this full suit *not that you would at 60, but humor me* (assuming you don't use the shield, because you wouldnn't want to)...

you'd get over 400hp off this...not bad
Final results...

Crustacean Shell Boots +10 AC, +6 Str, +12 Sta, -2 Dex, -5 Cha
Crustacean Shell Bracers +9 AC, +5 Str, +4 Sta, -5 Cha
Crustacean Shell Breastplate +19 AC, +5 Str, +5 Sta, -8 Cha
Crustacean Shell Greaves +12 AC, +4 Str, +16 Sta, -4 Dex, -4 Cha
Crustacean Shell Shield +17 AC, +4 Str, +10 Sta, -7 Cha
Crustacean Shell Vambraces +10 AC, +8 Str, +12 Sta, -4 Dex, -4 Cha

This gives the final totals of:
+86 AC, +37 Str, +63 Sta(!), -10 Dex, -38 Cha.

Warnings! The Root and Lull lines of spells for Clerics & Paladins are supposed to be Cha based... at least according to the people I've talked to. And I have noticed that Dwarf Pallys have a harder time getting their roots to stick than my Half-elf Pally.

Still... the Vambraces, Greaves & Boots (of course, the ones with -Dex) would be more than welcome on my Cleric. The Boots most of all.

This is the first and only time I have heard anyone say anything about CHA having anything to do with a Cleric's root. Does anyone know anything more about this? A short period of testing looks like it might actually be true... But even caster's Realm says nothing about it in the character creation guide. I have a 45 Cleric and actually did test this. Equipping gear that drops my CHA to 13 Frost Giants in GD either resisted or instantly broke my root. At 110 CHA they landed almost every time and held a long time... I only tried this for about 30 minutes, so it isn't a long drawn out test, but I am shocked. Everyone has always told me (including all the sites) that CHA only made a difference with buying and selling unless you are a bard... - ?? Will definately look into this further, and if anyone else knows anything about it, let me know...

If a troll or an ogre got a full set of this crustacean armor, just think what their charisma would be... I wonder if they could get their charisma into negative numbers? ;)

As a side note, I think that for necromancers and shadow knights, fear should work better if you have your charisma as low as possible... I mean, after all, the uglier you get, the easier it is to scare people, right? :)

FYI. Stats don't go negative. They hit zero and stay there. I know, I tried to go negative with my Troll warrior. She had a Forsaken Pariah mask (-25 CHA), which should have brought her CHA to about negative 7 with her other minus CHA gear, but it just stuck at zero.

My warrior won't drop below 1 either. I have the full set of armor which would put him at about negative 25ish, but it never drops below 1.

But OH MY GOSH the hit points. This changed her sta from like 132 to 169 or something.

The graphic is kinda bad though.. its a weird case where a NON VELIOUS owner almost sees a better graphic. They see the normal plate graphic with a brown rust color, everyone with velious sees a more kinda ornate thing on the female with a necklace and leather trim on the shoulders and bottom (so much like the rygorr on a troll i thought it was chain, but looking closer there are plate segments on front or back)

Kinda disappointed that they decided to go Unicolor on some of the velious non-main armors. I'd guess that planes plate was a detailed texture like ry'gorr but this stuff just has brown rust slopped on it with no graphic colored details. This makes it look kinda bad on a troll which has a necklace on the graphic and such.

However, it looks pretty good on a dark elf female. You can tell on her regular velious plate she might have flames or something but the unicolor brown rust is not so bad on her velious plate graphic.

I might actually use this on my level 30 cleric instead of rygorr and keep rygorr on the troll since this lowers the trolls dex A LOT like to 70. The cleric already has very high dex and does not need it anyway. Main reason why I might on my cleric dark elf are it is ac about as good as adamantite (cultural) cleric quest, or rygorrs armor but it gives her like 12, 15, 16 sta on some of the pieces totalling up to nearly 100 more hit points and adding a bunch of str to carry stuff to boot.

On a melee who can afford the 15 point or so dex reduction this stuff is great though. My troll's dex is low as it is which would make her weapon skills very slow and not proc as much in this stuff = / She is wearing the wrist though which is very good at 9 ac 5 str.

This is about the perfect armor for a lower high elf paladin or wood elf melee type. The str and sta (HUGE STA) would really help them basically turning a high elf pally into a dwarf.

CHA effect for tanks...
# Jan 09 2001 at 12:59 AM Rating: Default
I wonder if a lower CHA increases a tank's taunt power. Maybe there is some nice Verant coding where the farther from 75 your CHA is the better your taunt is? I wonder if CHA even effects taunt's power at all or is taunt's effectiveness only as powerful as the tank's skill in taunt? Just wondering...

Nah main taunt is weapon delay and sttack
Ah, found what Brad Mquaid said it did

From some time ago when he said the only thing the stats did:

Charisma: This affects amount you will be paid for goods by NPC merchants, and how much they will pay you. It also affects the saving throw on certain Bard and Enchanter spells (charms in particular).

That was some time ago when Brad posted what every stat actually did due to much public arguing. That and the other stat info is pretty much verbatim now in Everquest Caster's Realm character creation guides. The first line of each stat in the guide is pretty much what Brad said, for example:

Dexterity: Dexterity affects how quickly you learn weapon skills, and how often weapons will do their special.

Wisdom: Wisdom affects the amount of mana the priest classes have, also rangers and paladins. It also affects how quickly you can learn many skills if your wisdom is higher than your Intelligence.

Stamina: Stamina affects how many hit points you have, and how long you can hold your breath. It also affects how long you can swing weapons before tiring, and how often you can jump before becoming exhausted.

I was trying to find the actual list of what he said, since I have it scribbled rather illegibly on a piece of paper, and instead found they had incorperated it into their class manuals. Nice ; )

It taunts just as horribly as everything else though.

I have heard tell that less cha helps with fear sticking but not really sure of that
