Works for me
# Apr 13 2004 at 11:00 AM Rating: Good
I have a high elf paladin that is a lowbie, spend most of my time working the bazaar on EM buying low and selling high, which has afforded me a significant amount of plat to twink my pally out with. I bagged on the breastplate, but I use the boots, two bracers, the gauntlets, greaves and venbraces. These provide a cumulative +61 AC (not bad, not great), +36 Strength, +50 Stamina, -10 Dexterity and -28 Charisma.

I offset these losses in large part by a Cloak of Greater Pernicity and a Belt of the Great Turtle (AC6, Strength +10, Dexterity +10, Hit Points +30 and a worn aura of battle effect +10 Attack and +2 HP regeneration).

All in all it is decent armor, very good stats with the debuffs offsettable and cheap. I think this is excellent lowbie armor and certain pieces can be carried forward until the more powerful armors are available and useable. I ditched the breat plate because I use an Acrylia breast plate (sic) which is AC 38 plus a variety of stats. But until I can start using the effects on my Deepwater armor I'll trade a little AC for a lot of strength and stamina on what is arguable a physically weaker race.

I'll tell ya who Crustacean is best for. It's best for Erudite or High Elf Paladins who need the STA increases and who have above average CHA to begin with so the CHA debuff doesn't hurt them as much. Look at all the Crusty parts and you'll see that they just scream to be worn by these race/class combos.

in my opinion, this armor is better than the crafted. those of you who say AC = god to warrior's aren't entirely correct. AC is VERY important, but Stamina is greater in this case. 15 stamina = much hps at high lvls. and what good is any warrior who can't tank? no matter what their AC they're still gonna get hit HARD at high lvls. it's unavoidable. and the more hp you have the more hits you can take. (so in response to the crafted vs this post below, this piece definately wins). now i wouldn't rush out and buy a full suit of crusty, but the bp is a very respectable piece. i twinked my warrior with it at lvl 1 =P

I think all that stamina at level 1 is like 3 hp? lol. Meaning while it IS twinked you woul dnot see the results until you leveled more, kind of negating the statement.

For my warrior is lvl 57 i have 1160 ac and 3125 hp un buffed. AC is very important but so is stam and HP, try to get items that have a good amount in one or the other or have a fair amount in both

This armor is so cheap nowadays that it's better suited for twinking, although it's nice for higher levels, too. I gave some to my troll warrior, who never cared about CHA to begin with :) My 2cp --chk--

Sure 15 sta is a lot of HP at high levels, but at high levels, a 19 ac bp will get you laughed out of your group.

The reason you hear a lot of HIGH level Warriors looking for hp and sta items is that they have hit their ac softcap, and higher ac will make no difference. Also, most of the boss mobs in high end encounters will hit for full damage every time, regardless of ac.

Having said that, for the average lvl 45-50 warrior, grinding in places like solb, DL, Karnors, WL, EW, etc... Having higher ac is more important.

My warrior twink (lvl 35) has about 900ac with lvl 34 cleric buffs. Also has about 2200hp with those same buffs. I would not trade the high ac for another 300 or so hp. I have SOLOED 3 dark blues in this setup.

Also, my main is a cleric. I have healed warriors in full crusty, and they are mana sinks.

This depends on your class. If you are a class that requires Charisma or Dexterity (Bard/Paladin) you will probably want to go with crafted. If you are a dark servitor of the wicked gods, undefeatable by even the most holy Paladin in the land (ShadowKnight) then this armor is some of the best in the game as far as I am concerned. Your Dexterity score suffers a little, but the Charisma you lose from this helps out your fear spells immensely. My 35 ShadowKnight has a full set of crusty, and is getting a second bracer, and my stats on Strength and Stamina are 174 and 176 respectivly. That's really not bad for a human! My charisma registers as one, although by my calculations it should be negative 6. This armor provides a load of HP due to the Stamina increases, and I find myself hitting harder than some Ogers at my level!!!

I would recommend this armor to any fledgling creature of darkness.

This is a myth, lower CHA has no effect on your fear spells.

CRAFTED by a mile. a warrior is a meat shield. You are meant to ABSORB damage, not just dish it. A black enamelled bp, with 25ac, and NO stats, is better for a warrior.

Until you get to the endgame levels, you should take AC over stamina, as long as you are over 100 already. True, STA adds HP, but until your AC is maxxed, you will get more benefit from ac increase than from stamina. Given the choice, I'd prefer both, but if I had to pick, I'd go with AC.

The reason you hear people frequently say to take HP/sta over ac, is that at high levels, warriors often hit the ac cap. at that point, more HP are awesome. However, a warrior with 20 more ac will take a LOT less damage, and the crusty wearing one will NEED those extra HP, just to survive the encounter. Since they are taking so much more damage, they will be mana drains on the group healer.

I've healed low ac/high HP warriors, and high ac/less hp warriors, and the grinding goes faster, and there is less downtime while OOM, when you have high AC.

Sure in endgame encounters, when the tank has 7k hp, and the mob hits for full damage, even with max ac, and the AoE spells are the real damage causers, HP are more important, but if you are in an encounter like that, and still wearing crusty, you need to go equipment shopping.

Man u must be one crazy guy to wear a full set of crust (rust i should say) But for a warrior AC is much more needed than stats. thats why i traded some of my crusty ofr a Jagged Blade of Morning. Then I put my Crafted back on and noticed that my AC went up 20 pts from the Crusty. To you barb, dorf, troll, and ogre warriors, If u think a Dark Elf does not make a good warrior u r dead wrong. I am a 43 Dark Elf warrior name is Deedllit Sharppedge (i know i know where the name came from =) ) but i am awesme i dual wield with an Ember Blade and a Jagged blade of Morning or i use a Mithril 2 handed sword but that is besides the point. Point is for a warrior of any race AC is the way to go u can take more cuz the mobs hit u less so how bout that. Here u figure it out AC=lower dmg on ya (oh and i play on Morell Thule so look for me round DL)
which is better

My warrior alt currently is using a crafted breastplate, 22ac,5sta,25hps. The othmir bp 19ac,5str,15sta,-8cha and I was wondering if I should try to buy one of these. I've already replaced most of my crafted armor with crusty armor, but not sure if the loss in ac is worth it.

I quad kite othmirs pretty much whenever I am online and can kill all the othmir warriors before they start to re-pop. Do any of you know the drop rate on the BPs? I have 5 pairs of the leggings.. but have yet to see a BP drop. I used to be allied with othmirs, now my faction can't get any worse =P. Oh well.. they give great exp, and drop massive amounts of gems and armor, so faction be screwed I'm gonna make lvl 60! =)

For you SK's I also suggest you check out the Sentient Armor.. of the Sentient Suits from Wakening Lands. Has Nice ac and +int. Have a nice day =).

Ry'Gorr
# Nov 07 2001 at 8:20 PM Rating: Decent
Ry'Gorr Battle Mail is a definate must for anyone seeking Strength. A Treeweave is also effective, but it costs alot and it doesn't add any more strength. Ry'Gorr is cheaper than this and has better stats. Crafted is ok armour for a warrior, but only if you want well-balanced stats, otherwise, I definately suggest Ry'Gorr Battle Mail, because warriors who have bows need the dexterity.

Not as high AC as Crafted
# Oct 04 2001 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
Maybe I'm missing something here, but why would you want to wear a full set of this over a full set of crafted? Granted, the +sta boost is significant, but for a tank, wouldn't you rather have the higher AC? You're giving up 14pts of AC by choosing this over crafted, doesn't seem to make sense to me.
RE: Not as high AC as Crafted
# Dec 01 2001 at 5:27 PM Rating: Decent
I agree with Vamp. At level 45, Crafted gives me an overall 22 AC bonus, but I lose over 400 hit points. Can hardly notice the loss of AC, but the gain in hit points really increase staying power. Str bonus is great too. Crafted is worthless in comparison.

The extra 300-1000 hp (not to mention str) or so you'd get from wearing a full set of this outweighs the 20 or so raw ac that you lose..

Save up for a froglok scale breastplate? Perphaps level up some more and get in a Myconid Spore King group, and hope you get lucky on a Fungi Tunic? I suppose those are 2 options. Crustacean should be good for your warrior till about lvl 50 when it can go on raids to hate/fear.

Yea, I need to end the othmir pestilence on Norrath. I think you might be able to single pull them, and.. if you aren't KOS to dragons.. you could pull it up top to near the wyverns then fear kite it. Try that.. just avoid the othmir camp with Cheif Kalan or whatever his name is. He likes to resist spells, and he is haste buffed. Which means he will hit you hard and fast.

What spell are you attemping to use? I'm currently using Fist of Karana which I was lucky enough to buy (albiet for 4k =/), but before I purchased that spell I used Lightning Blast. Also, if you don't have enough mana to kill these I suggest you try to buy a Luminescent staff. They run around 3,000pp to 10,000pp and it has a right click Direct Damage Area Effect for 182dmg. You might also want to take a look at your gear and figure out some cost effective ways to increase your mana pool.
RE: Quadding

while passing through CS i saw lots of wizzies and druids taking out the othmirs 4 at a time (quadding). Very easyily done by then and left then with 60m, at level 58 and about 40m with a wizzie at level 52. I joined in for a couple of rounds against some of the Othmirs and with C2 they only needed a couple of minutes to rest for mana and were fit for some fighting. Watch out for the shamans which gate and get lots of their friends to help them...
Whoa baby
# Jul 23 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, indeed I am guilty as charged: I too am an otter poacher!!! <feigns remorse>

I have killed probably between 500 and 800 of these bad boys or so, warriors usually, and I have gotten only a few (say 5) FULL sets of this stuff. The rare pieces seem to be the bracers and the breastplate (probably because they don't have negative Dex like most of the other pieces).

I sold a full set once for 10k, and pieced out another for around 8k. The BP seems to go for 2k easily (and rightly so if you ask me), the other pieces for around 1k each (legs are always 1k, bracers usually 8 or 900 to 1k) The vambracers usually go for 1k, and are a nice change of pace to Mithril Vambraces for those who can use them.

All in all I'd say this price is a tad high, but keep in mind that items are worth what you can get for them. If you're patient and not greedy, you will get a nice price for these. If you are in a hurry to sell them, take what you can get, and get yer **** back out hunting again. Personally I have a full set of this on my SK, as I've been told CHA detrimentally affects Fear line spells. I would never put a full set of this on a bard. I have this mixed into my lvl 36 warrior's equipment as well, and it works well and looks neat. In a full set, being that he's a troll, he looks like a big fat rootbeer barrel. Kinda neat.

Ok, blab blab, I'm done.
RE: Whoa baby
# Aug 25 2001 at 3:26 AM Rating: Default
My friend was offered a FULL set of this for only 2k. As she was a lvl 49 Warrior at the time, she passed.

Now, on Xev, the BP only goes for around 1k, so the other peices maybe around 500pp.

She now tells me she's going to get me some of this stuff, now thats shes a lvl 51...
RE: Whoa baby
# Sep 24 2001 at 12:11 AM Rating: Decent
I've looked at prices on all the different servers and I'll tell you Xev prices are WAY lower on average than other servers for some reason. The prices are all messed up over there, so I'd say 10k would be a good price to get on another server.
RE: Whoa baby
# Sep 30 2001 at 2:55 AM Rating: Decent
Sorry to disappoint you, but on the three servers I play on, Xev, povar, and Terris Thule, Crustacean pieces are all 300p-500p and bp is 800-1kp. So for info, if any of you plan on making a small warrior, as I did.

Charisma has no effect whatsoever on fear, its been tested rather exhaustively by necros using items like harvester, etc, to lower charisma to a truly abysmal level. For all intents and purposes, fear is a straight up roll against magic resist.

I have done a bit of research over this armor <crustacean shell, not just breastplate> and i have found that the breastplate is worth around 1.7k to 1.8k. Something i found was that alot of people were wanting to trade items for this gear. With most of the other pieces averaging less than 700 plat a piece. Now that's with nameless server, and just the people i have talked to, which is far less than 2500 people...
