why
# Jun 09 2001 at 1:27 AM Rating: Default
Why would a monk want these? simple, 14ac is a ton of ac for a monk. even tho they do weigh 4.0, doesnt mean you couldnt squeeze them into your gear at 45 or so, but then you should have a tinkers bag for loot anyways
why
# May 23 2001 at 11:48 PM Rating: Decent
why oh why would a monk, sk, or necro want these? you were with a cleric give it to the cleric... and if something odd like that happens maybe you should say so in ooc. not that i agree with the other follow up post but pay attention you could have just stole it away from a quest
scroll up do whatever you can don't just loot a no drop item that you can't use.

Killed Fergul today as i was camping giants for faction. What happened is that while Killing the normal Spawn version of fergul(who is green at 55), another blue conning version spawned at the same time and started hitting me. I Feigned the first time and the green con poofed, so i killed the blue con with help of a cleric with me and looted the leggings. Half an hour later Fergul respawns, and I start to kill him again, right when he starts to run the blue con Fergul once again spawns and starts hitting me, i killed Green Fergul, no loot or gems. Killed blue fergul and got the leggings once again. Seems there is no quest needed or its bugged or something.

The whole time the broodmother was wandering around, I didn't bother her though.

actually, i believe the quest was broken for a while. there were tons of people that i heard of going there because it was broken, during which time a friend of mine got a pair of these legs for her dru. pretty sure she didn't do the quest. i have no idea how to do the quest but they said the broodmother was just wandering in and out the whole time, and that anyone that wanted some leggings should get some while it was bugged. like i said, no idea what the broodmother has to do with it. but i heard it was messed up for a bit. so there =p

Quest is definitely bugged. killed fergul today 6 times..our whole party got legs. They look kinda gay on a wood elf, same graphic as tizmak....but nice stats.

The complete lowdown...
# May 12 2001 at 11:57 AM Rating: Default
This is an outline of the quest as I did it on the 12/05/01

Firstly, you do not need to hail or use keyphrases with any NPCs. I handed all items in whilst invis (and thus indifferent, my normal Coldain faction is dubious). There are 3 basic steps:

1) Get the sceptre from the Queen in CC. When I went in, a group had just killed her and, since nobody needed the sceptre (which I believe drops every time) they allowed me to loot. Return this to the named NPC given in the quest outline (he's located in a building on the left as you head past the guardhouse towards the hall where the Historian's giving his lecture).

2) Leave Thurgadin and head left from the river to the drakkel wolf area. I can confirm that the other wolves are placeholders for the blood wolf. Again, I got lucky as a bard was kiting the wolf and, not needing the drop, let me loot. Then, hand this and the gem to Vores, who is in a shelter by the river on the far side of the wurm caves from Thurgadin. You'll recieve a harness of control.

3) The final step is to hand this harness to the broodmother. She's on what I can only guess to be around a 24 hour spawn, and yet again I got lucky, logging in the following day to see her on track. She sets off on a trek up to the fort, and the 2 giants repop outside the fort. When she attacks, the one with the leggings runs and you should attack him once he's a resonable distance from the fort yet before he reaches the EW zone.

Now this is where I was surprised. I'm only a level 51 druid, and had a 58 druid for backup, but I could easily have killed him solo. I can only assume he's been changed since the last patch because the epic struggle outlined by another guy below was nothing like what I faced. Snare stuck on the second attempt, and my roots had about a 50 percent success rate, holding him long enough for the ES vambraces to do their work. I even had enough mana to throw a few starfires a him. He does have quite a few hps, but caused me no trouble at all.

I have no idea what happened to the broodmother, once the giant was dead I looted the leggings and left. Considering the stats, this is a remarkably easy quest, and well worth doing. When equipped, I can confirm they look like Tizmak. I just hope everyone else doing this quest is as lucky as I was )

So what do you say to Vores to get him to ask for the gem and the harness?
Is it me?
# Apr 18 2001 at 7:40 AM Rating: Good
There is, apparently, some "common knowledge" I wasn't aware of before today that I hope I can help a few of you out with. When the Broodmother is killing Gralk and you are tracking or closing down on Fergul, HIT HIM AS SOON AS IT IS SAFE -- meaning: let him run far enough away from the Broodmother that she doesn't become his pet, but DON'T LET HIM GET TOO FAR. What happened to me today is that the Broodmother killed Gralk before I was able to engage Fergul, and he despawned. Had him on tracking and just got him targeted when he disappeared. Suggestion: have a good friend waiting near the fort to help you so you don't end up wasting a lot of time on this quest.

Grafic
# Apr 18 2001 at 5:47 AM Rating: Default
I noticed the grafic looks different on these depending on your race. Only seen on dwarfs, and halflings, and barbarians but I like the barbarian grafic, looks like the matching set to the ulthork hide tunic.
Be prepared
# Apr 17 2001 at 11:09 PM Rating: Decent
When I did this quest, it was right after the 4-4-01 patch. Both Fergul and Grakl were up, and I gave the harness of control to me broodmum. She sauntered out to the fort, where the giants did NOT depop and repop. Broodmum went inside the fort, and came out having attacked no one. She DID however become the pet of a drakkel dire wolf down the hill. Verant couldn't verify that I gave the harness to the broodmother, so here I am at square one again. No items get returned to you if they can't find a bug in their system. - )
Soloing Fergul
# Apr 14 2001 at 7:52 AM Rating: Default
I soloed Fergul outside of the quest as a level 49 troll shaman w/o difficulty. I invised and went inside the giant fort and rooted the other named giant then rooted and dotted Fergul. Things got messy and I had to run but once I got close to the zone, I turned around and only Fergul was in tow so I stopped and decided to finish him. I used nearly all my mana w/ wis of 165 but once he was out of the fort he fell pretty easily. I am not sure if perhaps he is more difficult if you fight him while doing the quest or not but I certainly didn't need a whole group. BTW, he doesn't drop anything unless you follow the entire quest. I am still waiting to catch broodmother to try to solo this quest.

51 Druid-Solo?
# Mar 21 2001 at 5:15 PM Rating: Default
I see the BM up all the time, but everytime I get a good group together I come back and someone is doing the quest. So, my question is, to those people that have done it. Could I do it solo at 51? 200 wis, ok +mana items, and ES vambs. I know the giants love to resist ensnare for some reason, but once it sticks he shouldn't be too hard, right? I was thinking about binding outside the giant fort, handing her the harness, then gating and waiting for her to arrive. Then just kite the giant around once he makes a break for it.

RE: 51 Druid-Solo?
# Mar 27 2001 at 12:12 PM Rating: Default
I have a druid that solo'd this quest at 51, but it WAY easier to do it with 2 people, cause this guy has a TON of hp.
Here's how you need to do it:
Keep your level 5 root spell (grasping roots) up, and if god forbid you don't have ES vambs, you'll need drifting death and starfire.
You have to root, snare, DoT him to death, and you'll be oom for most of the battle. Snare won't tack him until he has about a sliver of hp, and he loves to resist root. When he doesn't resist it, you'll be lucky if you have 10 seconds of medding time before he breaks it, but you MUST have the level 5 root spell up so you can be sure to have enough mana to root him. I almost got smeared doing this by myself, and I didn't have ES gaunts at that time. I found myself shouting for someone to come help me because I was oom and he had close to half health left, but I did end up getting him eventually without help. Keep enough mana to snare him again, cause it will wear off before he goes down. You'll have to fight him for about a half hour or so to kill him.

Since getting mine, I've helped a number of guild mates with this quest (all 45+ druids). 2 druids can take this guy down pretty easily, but you still have to use the same method with one person DoTing him, and one casting a DD. And in all cases, both druids were oom by the time he fell, and I had ES gaunts for these.
If you're bold, and your AC is good with 200+ wis, you may attempt this with a 51 druid - but I really recommend finding someone else to help.

And in case you hadn't realized, these legs are far superior to Vermiculated. Still not as good as the new PoF dropped Harmony Greaves tho (which look like BADASS light green plate for druids). Kromiff leggings look like tizmak by the way - oh well =p
Make sure Giants are UP
# Mar 13 2001 at 1:15 PM Rating: Decent
Make sure the giants are up that you need, I gave the broodmother the harness after waiting along time and she headed towards the fort I was very excited then she attacked a giant out front I killed that giant--thinking that she would go attack the others DIDNT happen she wondered off to the dwarf area and became a pet of a dwarf sucked too. I killed the dwarf thinking that maybe this was another quest bam the broodmother despawned and the dwarf i killed had nothing. --Little upsetting considering the wait. GL to all

When you give the Broodmother the harness TWO named giants will spawn. When she gets to the fort, she will attack one of the giants. The OTHER giant will run off in the direction of the zone. If you do not have someone in position to snare/root him, he will escape quickly and good luck finding him. You kill the runner and he will have the Leggings on him.

P.S. I'm told that the BM will occationally go berzerk on anyone in the area after the giant she was fight dies. I have never seen this happen but it pays to be careful.
The scoop/some info:
# Mar 08 2001 at 3:03 PM Rating: Good
The quest explains itself.

The first person you speak with is in Thurgadin, head down the ramp to the cleric/paladin guild area. He is in the first door on the left, its a bar. You get nice exp at 47 for giving him the sceptre (dont know if the acid will work or not).
The second person you speak with is just west of the river, and South of the wurm cavern, good exp as well, watch out for wandering wurms in the area! Give him the gem (looks like a lightstone and the bloodwolf harness).
Broodmother is a 8-10 hour spawn, and you dont hail or anything, you just give her the control harness, and then you haul ars to the giant fort.

Here is how it went for me: My group isvis's and waits at the fort for me. The 2 giants pop, and we all target Fergul. Broodmother comes and attacks (YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR HER TO ATTACK OR YOU GET NOTHING), and I snare pull Fergul (resisted of course). My group hauls ars to a safer spot, with Fergul in tow. Well, Broodmother never killed the other giant, in fact the other giant just wandered around by the fort. Broodmother became the pet of Ferful the giant, and totally kicked my ars (red at 47). So, my cleric is now the subject of the broodmother attacks, and runs around in huge circles, while the rest of us (me naked still) attack the giant. The giant dies (fairly easy), and broodmother depops.

I was told if you are in melee range of the giant broodmother attacks. Please remember this quest is very buggy, and Broodmother in my case immediately became the giants pet. She was hitting for 174 x2 over and over on my poor druid, but the death was worth it. The leggings are relatively easy to get (gave them to my paladin with a fast log out/in and loot, and a 90% rez was given to me as well. The named giants are about as hard as a berserker, just a little more magic resistant.

I would also like to thank my guild for their help, and the help of about 5 other people who not only helped kill the giant, but who took serious damage from Broodmother, and who also did not loot the body (they did the most damage). It's nice to know people are still nice in parts of EQ. My thanks goes out to those folks.

I would also like to thank VI for Eci crashing for 30 minutes last night, since it reset the spawns, and Broodmother was up when I finally was able to log in, and only 3 people in the Great Divide. See, sometimes server crashes are good!

Oh, right after I got the leggings a Blood wolf wandered by... how handy to have another harness :)

I did this quest last night solo with 19 others in zone no one helped me and had no problems with broodmother attacking me or being the giants pet. Heres how i did it solo

First i shouted that i was about to start it and asked that every one please not pull or go near the fort and that they dont bother broodmother as she left the caves. then i followed her invis to the fort were i selected the one i needed to kill and she attacked the other giant the one you need to kill the depops and repops right away and starts to run walk to the zone. if you attack him any were near broodmother she will become his pet wait tell hes half way to the zone then snare and kite him around or have your group come in and kill if, you attack or are attack by anything near broodmother, broodmother will become that things pet be a giant or wurm or wolf. I seen one night were some one turned in the harness and was attacked by a elder on the way out and broodmother became that wurms pet. After i was done kiting the giant for 30 mins finally taken him down with no mana i went to look for shardwurm and she had become a Dire wolfs pet hehe kinda funny seeing a level 40 wolf with a level 50 pet lol. If im correct when shes done killing the giant if theres another npc close by she will become that things pet if not she depops or maybe comes after the other giant not sure.

Friend, the complete quest is lined out at the link on the top of the post, please take a minute to read and figure things out instead of expecting it to be handed to you simply because you ask. Its quite annoying to see someone ask, "Whats the stats on ###?" when you can scroll up and see them for your selves. Now questions on effects, haste, procs, triggers, and such, if it doesnt have a link on the item page, then its a question worth asking. I'm not saying this is a dumb question, but please think a fwe minutes and look at the website your on. Any information I have ever needed I have either found here or found a link to another site that had the information.

these are a great item to upgrade the gatorscale leggings for druids. that one extra wis helps push you (well me) to that 200 wis limit. Plus its a fun quest to do, and further adds enjoyment to velious. (although waiting on the broodmother sucks heheeh)

With the stats you are given with this item, who the **** cares what they look like? Unless you have something with better stats for your class, the look means diddly. Go enter a beauty contest in Felwithe... I prefer to buff up my stats, which as a druid are not too excellent in AC or STR to begin with... and they are a step up from Gatorscale Leggings.

These have a unique look to them. On high/wood
elves they are darker than gatorscale and have
a cool gold pattern and are dark gray right
above the boot line. On halflings they are black
with a white belt buckle. On half elves they
look heinous. On half elves they are dark brown
and they are crotchless/buttless...they'd be
great at the 1/2 elf leather gay bar ;-) (the
gay thing IS a joke so don't be offended but
I've been to New Orleans during festival time
and seen the gay bikers wearing chaps that look
the same as these)

These don't look like leather/gatorscale. They have the new Velious leather look like Ulthork or Tizmak armor. As a side note, if it does look like old leather to you, check your EQ ini file. I recently reloaded my system and found I couldn't see the new armor models. There are lines in the ini files that need to be set to true for you to see them. There are about 5-6 lines which I believe were called 'ShowArmor##', or something similar.
