difficultly
# Mar 07 2001 at 8:36 AM Rating: Decent
I've seen it on a friends char. It is wearable by HIE now. My pally is making everyone he's helped go back to get more guts and poles! :-)

As for difficulty...Three trips for 1 pole. Each trip 2 to 4 hours. Fourth trip I couldnt go on and SEVEN poles droped in three hours. Usually instead of a pole you will get a mojo stick that claims it can only be used by two of the casting classes, but my high elf paladin was able to put in an open inventory slot and right click to cast the spells anyway. It was interesting being a wizard and a mage for awhile until the charges ran out :-)

The Strong items are called...
# Feb 22 2001 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
You need a

"Strong Raptor Gut" from raptors in WL

and a

"Strong Wooden Branch" from holgarshs in WL.

Both are quite rare. I would say, 1 in 30 for both give or take.
How rare is the strong branch?
# Feb 21 2001 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
I've killed a bunch of Holgresh, but no strong branch yet. Any idea on how rare it is?
RE: How rare is the strong branch?
# Feb 28 2001 at 6:01 PM Rating: Default
I just completed the quest thanks to a warrior and druid from Mithril Tower. The three of us went into the holgresh cave and dispell pulled the entire room without a branch dropping. (about 15 or so) Then the first respawn pop had the strong branch.

Before I got help from MT I was soloing the wanderers outside cave, it was difficult and lots of down time between kills. Even though they were green to me as a 49 ranger their spells and damage sheilds made the fights a lot closer then they should have been.

But the gold plate look is sweet, considering I'm use to browns and greens

Effect not as bad as you think
# Feb 15 2001 at 10:02 PM Rating: Default
The extra 15dmg with a 2 sec casting time would come in handy for a (smaller)Shadowknight or Paladin using a decent 2 hander. With my Drakkel Icereaver there's about 2-3 seconds between my hist anyways, and since I don't have kick or slam and can't use bash, the extra damage output would be mildly useful... at least its better than just sitting there waiting for the next swing.
Would give me something to do when mana gets low too.
RE: Effect not as bad as you think
# Mar 04 2001 at 10:36 PM Rating: Default
Another thing is for interupting spells and pulling when you are out of throwing daggers (as a rogue).

RE: Effect not as bad as you think
# Apr 23 2001 at 11:15 AM Rating: Decent
You aren't going to interrupt a spell with Vellium shards (maybe fighting a PC). If you haven't noticed yet, it's easy to get interrupted by an NPC casting a gay DD spell on you, but PC DD spells never interrupt unless they have an explicit stun or knockback effect. ALL NPC dd spells cast on PCs have a knockback.

Pretty gay, but this was pre-release behavior for ballancing I suppose.
RE: Effect not as bad as you think
# Mar 14 2001 at 6:39 PM Rating: Default
That is what I was thinking. I'm a rogue, and was curious about the distance at which this can be cast. Might make a damn nice pulling item.
RE: Effect not as bad as you think
# Mar 17 2001 at 7:10 PM Rating: Default
hey, it's mana free and does damage.. I mean even if it only did 5 points, I'd be thrilled!
How does proc affect dmg output?
# Feb 14 2001 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
I know that it has a cast time of 2-2.5 seconds, and that it prevents secondary attacks such as kick/bash/etc, but I am not clear on what other types of attacks it affects? Backstab? Duel Wield? How does it affect these? Reset the BS timer? Can you swing with main hand while casting this proc?

thanks,
emryss, xegony
RE: How does proc affect dmg output?
# Mar 04 2001 at 10:38 PM Rating: Default
was wondering the same thing... even if it does mess up BS and disarm for us rogues the base stats are still GREAT for us small ones who cant wear heroe bracers.
RE: How does proc affect dmg output?
# Mar 01 2001 at 10:35 PM Rating: Decent
It's not a proc, it's a click... seems to obey the usual spell rules. eg for a hybrid it will prevent kick, bash, attack, etc. but the timers will still run while you are casting, so I can't kick while I'm casting the effect but it doesn't slow me down. Don't know about for non-hybrids but I'm betting it would interrupt your attack clock... like it used to ours pre the recent enchance.
No Barbarians?
# Feb 11 2001 at 2:55 AM Rating: Default
Barbarians can wear med. stuff but why not this? it fits all other med races. I realize that barbs are border line med but to not be able to equip this is kinda BS. Personally it should be All races because besides the hero bracer, i cant think of to many other wrist class armor thats as nice as this besides the extreme high end
(lvl) stuff. If they single out races and exclude them at least give a comparable quest.
RE: No Barbarians?
# Feb 19 2001 at 11:04 AM Rating: Default
Bah, barbarian warriors are a dime a dozen... they're tryin' to make it semi-enticing for people to play other races. Races like humans, half-elves, wood-elves and the like who have very bad stats.

Proc
# Feb 10 2001 at 12:43 PM Rating: Default
Being a bard -- I don't believe that the proc off this item will be particularly useful, since in 2.5 seconds I can cast Boastful Bellow which does 19 damage last time I checked, with unlimited recasts. However, I thought this item might be particularly useful as a caster-interrupting item. As a bard I do not have the wonders of kick or bash, and I do not use Bellow often enough to have it loaded. So if a healer suddenly attacks the group, we tank it and it starts to heal, can I use the proc to interrupt the heal? I have used DD this way in the past with mixed success -- the heal spells have casting times well over 2.5 seconds.

It is not a proc its a right click able effect but i dunno about the other stuff.
Here is what u need
# Feb 06 2001 at 1:22 PM Rating: Good
U need strong raptor guts from tigeraptors

About Velium Shards...
# Jan 11 2001 at 3:17 AM Rating: Default
the proc is clickable, and unlimited. does approx. 12dmg, and it has about 2 sec cast time. the best part is 0 recast time, which pretty much means you can cast this every 2 sec, making it better than kick imo =)
RE: About Velium Shards...
# Jan 23 2001 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
It's not really better than kick. Sure, you may do more dmg overall than just kicking, but 2 seconds also takes up time(just over one attack round for lammy's) in which you could be attacking, plus Velium Shards, like all other spells, can be resisted. Also, at lvl 51, I can kick for up to 15dmg, so the only reason to get these bracers is for the stats and usefullness in pulling certain places.

RE: About Velium Shards...
# Mar 04 2001 at 11:02 PM Rating: Default
see you can still cast it while attacking to if its inturupted big deal you still have your normal rounds of attack and ect
RE: About Velium Shards...
# Mar 29 2001 at 11:28 AM Rating: Default
It IS a big deal if it is interrupted! You have wasted time useing the stupid prok when you could have been attacking! Using the ability in combat is terrible! It should never be done, you aren't swinging your weapon during cast, and someone said, "better than Kick", no it isn't because kick doesn't momentarily halt your attack. The shards are worthless people, the bracer still rules though.
Useless for pulling.
# Feb 01 2001 at 3:25 PM Rating: Default
According to sources, this is a melee-range only spell/proc... so, it's useless for pulling.

I don't play a melee-type, but one time when they might be useful for pulling is if the mob is in melee range (x,y axis) but too far above or below (z-axis) - spell effects are not usually subject to z-axis range restrictions.

Question About proc
# Jan 10 2001 at 8:01 PM Rating: Default
Anyone know if the proc is right clickable and unlimited and if so how much dmg does it do?
RE: Question About proc
# Feb 13 2001 at 5:26 AM Rating: Decent
Since this isn't a weapon, it cannot be a "proc": You do not fight using wristbands :)

It's the same effect as the Velium weapons procs, so it's a melee range DD, right-clickable. A pittance.
RE: Question About proc
# Jan 11 2001 at 6:21 PM Rating: Decent
It is right clickable, it is unlimited, and the damage is 12 points DD. The range is VERY short too. Not too useful IMHO.

You warriors who always pull ever have the prob with "your target is too far above/below you" hehe, not anymore, just right click and 2.5secs later the mob is runnin at ya, not matter how far above/below you they are...

How do I....
# Jan 05 2001 at 12:34 AM Rating: Default
All I want to know is...is this quest possible as a level 36 warrior? I cant seem to find a way to get thur Kael unnoticed(kos to the giants)and what level aree the mobs in the waking land I have to kill?
RE: How do I....
# Jan 10 2001 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
Only way through kael that i know of is to be invis and run like hell, or not be kos. As for a 36 warrior doing this quest id say thats impossible solo. You would need a few friends along. A 43 sk, and 47 ranger couldn't take out one of the flying monkey guys, so the ranger got his 51 mage, and then they were no problem hehe. Btw the monkeys and raptors con low blue to a 43. So far I have yet to get any of the quest stuff off of these guys, the monkeys roam pretty much through out the zone, so it helps to be able to track them. And there is a spot near the sky shrine entrance that has a static raptor spawn. Hope this helps anyone trying to do the quest.

Great Bracer
# Jan 04 2001 at 1:48 PM Rating: Decent
I - 51 dwf pally - and a couple ranger friends went and group quested this item in about 2 hours, so we each got one in no time. It is an insanely easy quest for this awesome item. As a dwarf some of the other standards for cool bracers in the game were not available for me to wear, such as the hero bracer. On a dwarf it looks like golden plate with a little golden chainmail on the inside of the elbow. The color is actually gold too. Not like the vitamin B stained urea color of 'golden' efreeti boots.

Anyway the effect is fairly useless as the casting time is about 2.5 seconds. As a pally I can get off a bash, taunt, AND stun in that time. But when the three of us got our bracer, we gathered round a Dire Wolf and gave him the most indignant death a dog ever had... 5 minutes of bracer clicking and sad little yelps.
