There is no *recase* time on the effect, it does however take 2ish seconds to cast.

And... its not exactly a lot of nuking, a whoppin 14 or so points ;)

Well for Paladins it's a DD spell NOT for Undead until lvl 49 (or is it 39) when we get our frist DD/Stun spell.

It'll help a teeny weeny bit, but that 14DD used over and over again COULD save your butt one day (maybe...)
Stanima
# Jun 13 2001 at 3:10 PM Rating: Default
The person who said 5sta gives 40 hps, thats NOTHING! You aren't thinking "What if I have 10 stanima items for 50stanima and get 400 hps"

You are thinking small there bud, think combined stanima, 400 hps could save your life, let you get that one complete heal that you wouldn't of gotten without that 400hps.
WTF?

Did the quest. Turned in two pieces (strong raptor guts and strong wooden branch) and walrus spawned. Killed walrus no irritated gnoll.

I was told he spawned right in place of the the fisherman but no luck.

Did I do something wrong? Very frustrating after camping for those stupid pieces to get nothing.

GMs of course said everything is working as intended so either the quest is changed or I did something wrong.

I had the same problem and realized that the Walrus had killed wandering gnol, who's supposed to turn into irritated gnol. Second time I made sure Walrus agro'd ME and feared it.

i complete this shackle quest today after spending the whole day going to WL to camps all those needed components.took quite long to have noctice that the wandering gnoll fisherman is just a snowfang fisher and i took the risk running through Kael without any guildence and at last i got all the components and i kill the walrus and got the irritated guy to spawn and got the page from him.next i head off to the pirates isle can hand the page to Ami and end up receiving a pirate's book or watever.i knew after i hand it to the chief i'll get my shackle.i hand it in...gained experience and receive the shackle...was overjoyed and went on telling my friends all about it and when im gonna try its effect it says.........your class/race/deity is mpt suitable to wear this.....i was dazzled..im an iksar monk....perhaps verants should make them useable by iksar....and so i will not have wasted my time on this quest.

you said, "perhaps verants should make them useable by iksar....and so i will not have wasted my time on this quest."

or perhaps you should have read who can equip this item before you started the quest. Your lack of investigation into this item before starting the quest is not Verant's fault, it's yours.

Well, most of those who come here *are* investigating the quest before doing it, but it's not always that way. Some of us like to hail NPCs and do what they ask us to do, without thinking "what's in it for me?" - though with some of these complicated quests you have to start wondering when one thing keeps leading to another. I did the "Test of Speed" quest (part of Bard epic, so I'm told) with my Ranger, I didn't care what class it was for, I just knew an NPC was hosting a race so I ran it. :)
I always wondered about what Errgriz would say to a PC in an actual conversation something about who can use an item...
[I hail Errgriz]
Errgriz: "You get me two mammoth meats so I can feed tribe, and give me good cat pelt and I make you something"
[I do so, with my enchanter]
Errgriz: "here, I make you nice mask. Oh, you can't wear? Well you can't drop either. Looks like you **** out luck, as you furless ones say. Grr."

Yeah, don't assume everyone comes to this site beforehand to check out a quest. I'd never even looked at any of the Velious quests before I dropped in on the Gnomish pirates. So, I happen upon the lost little gnome pirate who says he needs his map. Coincedentally at that time, Stormfeather pops up on tracking, so I kill it and loot the map. About 15 minutes later, people are going nuts that a druid has looted a piece of a map used for some haste eyepatch or something. All I cared about was helping the poor lost pirate! :-(

I'll be keeping my hero bracers too.

As a high elf paladin my str and stamina both suck but I need the added str. more - for a paladin its not just a matter of adding a bit of damage to each hit, paladins miss alot and the added attack value of 10 str is enough to noticably decrease the number of misses. Instead of double attacking and seeing "you attempt to hit but miss" twice a couple times each fight you will see "you hit for 100hp" twice. Thats enough extra damage per fight that you can dish out to allow you to solo a few mobs and to keep the agro off your casters better in groups.

The magic number I look at is 200. I do agree that if you are a high level warrior, high level shaman or even druid str. buffs are probably gonna put you over 200 str at which point having another 10 str doesnt mean as much. This isnt true for us smaller races and hybrid classes who start out with low enough strength that you need alot of str. items AND the big buffs to get up to 200. (As a 47 paladin with alot of str. items, with druid str buff and bard song all at once the highest str i've ever reached is 210)

As for adding up all your stamina items - that makes no sense in this context...we are talking about ONE item slot here. That one item doesnt give you that 400 hp it gives you 40, which I agree is a drop in the bucket when mobs are whacking on you for big damage.

Now if I ever get a deepwater bracer then my decision as to whether to get rid of the iceforged or the hero bracer will be a little tougher :)

LOL END OF THE HERO BRACER?!?! i dont see what is so great about the bracer of scavenging, ya stamina is great because i like HP as much as the next rogue BUT, we are supposed to deal damage like monks and run and hide when we get hit like casters, so im gonna dump my bracer of errolis and keep my hero

RE: End of the Hero Bracer
# Jun 04 2001 at 12:37 AM Rating: Default
10 str? if you are level 60? you got the shammies to give you tons of str, plus you are only gonna wear this as a joke or for looks because you have had plenty of time to find a bracer with higher ac. Plus at 60 melees dont shorten the fight, wizards shorten the fight, clerics keep it going, chanters reduce the casualties, shammies make the mobs weaker, melees just try to keep the mobs away from the others.
RE: End of the Hero Bracer
# Jun 16 2001 at 10:48 PM Rating: Decent
1.) No one talking about these are level 60.

2.) Rogues are potentially the most damaging level 60 class (yes, invluding wizards). They get double backstab, and unlike wizards they evade when theyre aggrod. A level 60 rogue will pump huge amounts of dmg into a mob through the whole fight.

3.) This is a page about some awesome lvl 35-40 quest bracers, not about whether or not melees can shorten fights at lvl 60.

heh actually when i get this i will be droping my hero bracer and not my bracer of scavenging. sta is a much more improtant stat than str is. For both the use of heavy weapons, and hps. The resists are the only thing i will miss on the hero bracer(well besides the look). 10 str is means jack squat in the end game, where as 5 sta is still good...because that equates into a good amount of hps.
RE: End of the Hero Bracer
# May 23 2001 at 1:50 PM Rating: Decent
At lvl 60 5sta may get you 40hp's! Thats less then half a hit! And I as a warrior never go without a healer so that few HP mean nothing! I would rather deal the extra damage the 10str would get me and shorten the fight rather then pray 40hp will keep me alive!

It's a 17 point DD spell that takes while to cast, the range is so small you almost have to be in melee range to cast it, and you can't do melee damage while you're casting it. In other words, it doesn't matter what level it works at... it's useless.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 02 2001 at 11:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) half-stone in weight with pure melee stats on it. Sure! lets make it for warriors, rogues and wanna-be tanks. hehe I couldn't wait to get these on my Ranger. Went to WL and got the items in about 3 hours. I had a 53 magician helping so it was easy to wade through things. Took twice as long to get the guts as it did the stick. Anyway. I replace the Ry'gorr bracer on my off arm and I pick a fight with the first thing I saw. A cougar. I'm clicking away on the shackles and then I notice that I'm not hitting the thing. LOL Should have know better. As if VI is gonna give me a instant or even a decent cast time dd on a bracer. Long cast time and no melee while casting. And to top it all off you have to be right up on top of the thing so you cant even pull with it. Oh well. The Shackles rock anyway without the Velium Shard proc. I'll never use it but the other stats are well worth the effort.

My guild held a guild event to gather the components for this quest. The strong guts drop of any raptor to include Rapticor and Tigesaurous. There is a spawn point for these near the Skyshrine zone and it's a safe place to pull to cause you can zone. A lvl 48 SK was able to single pull the spawn point and we cleared the spawn. The same player was also able to single pull the holgresh cave and we cleared that as well. All in all we got 7 strong guts and 5 strong sticks. 3 guildies, to include my self completed the quest, 1 guildie had to log before he could turn in the components, and the last guildie turned the parts into the wrong person (. It is not a proc, it's a click for 12dd. Although that's not much, it's unlimited and there's no recharge time. And the other stats make it worth it. The guts and stick are either uncommon or rare drop. Because we had so many people trying to get the components it took 12 hours for 3 people to complete the quest. But if it's just one person this quest could be done in under 2-3 hours.

If you look at the races that can wear this item, it includes all medium or small races. Why shouldn't Iksar be able to wear this then? I mean if we were enslaved to the Sarnak for so long so many eons ago, shouldn't we have gotten use to wearing chains? Go figure.

So the proc aint great, but heres and idea.
While you run right click it and keep doing it when it says inturpted. It dosnt do a thing, but makes you look really cool running......
RE: Use of proc (some numbers)
# Mar 23 2001 at 9:33 PM Rating: Decent
Actually with the new hybrid changes this is a very nice proc. With 200+ channeling skill a 1 second cast time is pretty much uninteruptable. Hell I recover casting daring (10 sec cast) after beeing hit as many as 3 times.

If you get it off 4 times every 6 seconds (easy with a 30+ delay weapon) that's 48 damage per tick without hindering your melee damage. By comparison Bloodfire (war only planar weapon) procs blood boil, a level 29 necro dot which does 50.4 damage per tick.

Just some numbers to make you think. And lets not forget the taunt value of added damage.

But you are definitely hindering your melee damage. Its a triggered effect which is the same as if you were casting it yourself. The time counter for delay stops running while you cast. Therefore if you chain cast it you NEVER get to swing.
RE: Use of proc (some numbers)
# May 17 2001 at 8:03 PM Rating: Default
They fixed that several months back. Casting no longer interrupts the delay timer.

I think I am still correct - what the patch did was make it so that the delay timer didnt RESTART - it still PAUSES during casting. Therefore continuous casting would still make the delay timer continuously paused. If what you are saying is correct then the timer would run all thru casting - cast a long spell while using a fast weapon with auto attack on - see if you swing in the middle of casting...You don't.

I've heard that the fix was, apparently, for hybrids and hybrids only. It does not restart the weapon swing timer for these classes. The timers for them are now unlinked. You can verify this for yourself by asking any pal, shd, or rng who cast during combat. As a shd, with a 37 delay 1hs, if I cast lifedraw (2.5 sec casting timer) just after a swing, then I will swing again closely behind the spell, not 2.5s later, as I would with an additional 25 delay tacked on. The timer still runs during your cast; if your spell timer takes longer than your weapon timer, it will wait until your spell effect finishes or interrupts and then resume normally. While using a 19 delay claw, if I cast draw I will slash immediately following the spell. Yes, attacks are held off during the casting, however, as you can't riposte while casting either. =/

You are correct, in that the delay timer patch definitely only effected hybrids. This will definitely not work for a warrior as your timer stops and you have no channeling so if you get hit you lose the spell too. I also thought I should test this out a bit for myself with various weapons and spells. I'm a paladin and was primarily using a wurmslayer and bashing while casting using the bracers, stuns and expulse undead. My tests were not very scientific but here's a couple things that seemed to hold true.

(1) casting right after a swing can add to your damage especially if you are using a slower weapon like wurmslayer. You hardly lose any swings with a slow weapon but lose more swings with the faster ones.
(2) If you get hit alot you either get disrupted or the spell casting time is increased as your channeling kicks in for you to recover so you lose more swings and/or get no spell damage. If you happen to get stunned while casting then you've lost ALOT of time between swings. Therefore this technique works best when in a group where you are not the primary damage absorber.
(3) The damage on the shackles is hardly enough to make it worthwhile. If you have mana and use a bigger DD with a casting time close to your weapon delay then doing this is worth it. I had a C2 up in guk recently and using expulse undead I could swing, cast and immediately swing again, and this definitely seemed to increase my total damage output and I could do it for extended periods without running out of mana. It was also a good taunt cause you can concentrate your nuke and a big whack back to back.

Try it out, let us know how it works for you. Paladins dont get as good as attack spells as rangers and sk's so it should be even better for you.

First of all, hey Galadril, nice to see OWD around ;)
now: as much as I would like to agree with the main premise here, the damage is nice IF and ONLY if you are using a slow weap; now I know pleanty of ppl doing well with gatorsmash maul etc; but what use is this for my bard (OK so a bard is not really main class for it, but it would be ncie if they worked well for us) using a 9/22 and a 8/23? I can't do diddley with it.
So look, my point is, it is nice, but only if your other gear fits it, infact, one item that goes well with it is the same way: gatorsmash maul; its really only worthwhile if you have some casting going on between swings.
BTW, a sideline question; can you cast a spell normally WHILE casting with an item? that would seem kinda too nice for verant to allow, but I don't recall seeing the cast icons go grey when using items like these... hrmmm

Ive heared off a different web page that the gate to wakening was by wuoshi (the dragon that lives there), does anyone know if its safe to use it if you dont have good dragon faction? Or is it better to go through keal invis?

Yes the teleport to wakening lands is in middle of aggro range of the lvl 60 dragon. If you do not have good dragon faction go invis through kael or you will have a fun time trying to recover your corpse.

I hope you know a "cheap" necro friend and or have a coupla coffins on a mule to give to one if you port in an Wuoshi is up. Stinking Dragon camped my corpse till I could get a guildie to show up. Put simply DO NOT get the tooth needed to port into WL without being on the good side of the dragons. Killing Giants in Kael Drakkal seemed to help with that one.

G'luck Kiddies!!

Yes, Wuoshi is often at the dragon circle. If less than dubious to Scales of Velios (I think that is the faction), DON'T PORT THERE!!! best test of faction is to run across WL (norht) to Skyshrine and con the sentinels that are at first gate.
About 6 tigeraptors spawn just north of the SS zone in WL. Took down maybe 20 before I got the guts.
