INT for Bards
# Sep 08 2004 at 5:30 PM Rating: Decent
I Will never understand SOE putting stats on things that don't even relate to the class. Like putting 10+ INT on a shaman only item. /shrug, scratches head. Shaman's use WIS for their mana not INT. Bards use INT for their mana not WIS. /boggle

Once upon a time, Bards did use WIS.

Can someone who owns one please let me know if this can be traded in and out of off hand while keeping something (weapon) in the primary hand? I am thinking you can't but knowing for sure would be nice. The only droppable wind instrument that I know can be traded in and out of primary with something in off hand is Bloodstained Flute. Am looking for a flute that I could use in secondary. Any info would be helpful, thanks.
how bout sumthing pertaining to the stupid flute here

Bard Mana -- final post
# Sep 26 2003 at 2:42 PM Rating: Decent
Here are the facts:

1. Bards do use mana, particularly for charms and fading memories (bard FD/escape AA).
2. Bard mana regens ONLY via
A. Medding (skill = 1),
B. FT1-15 (flowing thought),
C. MC (mental clarity) AA (3 per tick max)
D. Body and Mind Rejuv AA (1 per tick)
3. VoQ (any form of crack), songs, pot9, kitty-crack, etc. do NOT regen bard mana.

Yes, I know this because I regen 19 mana per tick and I'm a 65 bard.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 23 2002 at 6:38 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, this is for all you poser 4th graders at the bottom of this post debating skills and effects. Smiley: cry ... i have a 40 bard... now mot people you ask will say that a bard uses INT for mana.. now any bard that is a good bard most likely has a kobold jesters crown -30 int +30 cha and some other stats. now when i die and loot with no rezz ( yes i tend to die alot ) i have an int of 47 and a wis of 98. i have very few mana items and dont really care for them... i have watched the mana bar as i loot and guess what my total overall MAXIMUM mana RAISES when i am done looting. i have looted my corpse in several different orders just or the sole purpose of laying these rumors to rest. with an int of 47 i for no reason should have mana to sing / sit and med for, reguardless of the amount of mana items i do or dont have, however with a wis of 98 i should. ( base wis of 75 like all wood elven bards ) now for skills... skills raise as you use them. singing included and guess what.. when your playing an aoe / group song you DO have a target.. guess what that target is.. cmon guess.. YOU.....DURR. all skills are raised based on your highest int / wis stat.. now there is a secondary check that is invoked for smithing (strength) tailoring(dex) jewelcraft (dex) and fletching(dex).. now i believe that this secondary check is in place for singing skills and is based on dex as well. VI instituted this secondary check system Smiley: yikes for idiot races that wanted tradeskills, i see no reason why it wouldnt be in place for somthing like singing or instruments.. now i know i wil get 110 shades of flame for this post and i am looking forward to it.. but for gods sake please keep one last thing in mind.... yes there are int casters, and yes there are wis casters.. but for gods sake BARDS DONT CAST Smiley: banghead they sing and i wish VI would realize that as much as all of you would

What a load of gibber, still not quite sure what the point was.
Bard songs use mana and the only items that improve your mana regen are FT ones.
Level up n00b before you start trying to hand misinformation like the crap in your post out to others.

U should be more careful of whom ya label a n00b, since U also dont have yur facts straight;its not really a mistake to say that bards dont use since there are only about 5 songs MAX that do.

we can also get mana back from a mod rod.

only FT type things give bard mana back. Mod rods, manastones, necro twitch, chanter spells, band songs, BST crack... all are SPELL effects - bards' mana is NOT regenned through spell effects.

Ok, sorry to act newbieish (or n00bish if you prefer), but I'm just starting out as a bard, and I want to make sure I've got this right.

You're saying that my bard is immune to his own mana song as well as all spell-effect based mana regen?! That sounds... painful!

What songs require mana and how much will I be needing (the uber-expensive and/or hard to get) FT items at higher levels? I've played a necro and a warrior, so I've never come across this limitation.
RE: If only you had a clue..............
# Sep 24 2003 at 9:07 PM Rating: Decent
I think, personally for me. the mana was used for charm kiting..
Yes, incredible pain for mana to regen, Solstice as mentioned is the cheapest i can get.
Disperate Dirge? the DD song .. well the mana sucked is not really worth IMHO cause i could really charm kite a few times with that mana used..
I only use Disperate Dirge once.. so far, that is when i am trying out to see the effect and drain.
Jus t take note at 53 my DOT song stacks for 225 per tick with TDOK.. so in a few tick it would be the damage for Dirge... as it says Desperate Dirge... maybe in times of desperation... who knows..

In fact bard are immune to ALL mana effect that include : regen by spell/song and DRAIN !

The only way for regen it's medding,... with 1 in meditate it's a pain, and FT item.
You can increase your mana pool by increasing your int so KEI and Voice of Quelious are not totally useless. But the regen effect didn't affect you.

The easiest FT item are The earring of solstice ( around 6k)
The AA mental clarity can give you some other mana regen too.

The song using mana :
The charm are these who are using often. 60 mana for the first ( lvl 39 duration one minute) and 100 mana for the second ( 60+ can't remeber the exact lvl)
You have a AE DD with use mana but it's very very... hurm ... useless...
The fading Memories ( pop AA, same as a FD ) use 900 mana each activation.

If i forgot some song don't flame me :) i use only this.

Wow, I am impressed by your brightness.
A bard don't need mana?? Did u ever charm a mob??
And Cobold Jester Crown? LMAO this is junk imo. Even in the lower lvl's where u seem to be atm.
There is of course a difference in mana and u will see it when someone cast C3 on u or a INT buff. Look at your mana bar and u will see the diff. On the other hand, maybe none casted those kind of buffs on u because u are to low atm. ;)
Not to mention the PoP abilitie Fading Memories wich is like the Rogue skill Escape. It uses 900 (in words ninehundred) mana every time. I think u will change your mind in the higher lvls or at least whenever u gonna play a bard right.

Oh btw, I'm playing a lvl 65 bard so I should know what I'm talking about.

RE: how much percent does this thing give to wind
# May 06 2002 at 10:42 AM Rating: Decent
This is the best Wind instrument you can get atm aside with Lyssa's Darkwood Piccolo from PoF

A normal flute is noted as 1.8 on Reed's Bard spread sheet. While this one is noted as 2.5. Don't know what the % is but I hope this helps you :)
What's up with the brass thread?
# Mar 08 2002 at 4:17 PM Rating: Default
Anyone else find it strange to find a thread on raising brass skill when we're looking for info on teh Flute of the Sacred Glade? It isn't even a brass instrument for crying out loud.

I was hoping to read some info here about the percentage to wind on this instrument. Oh well.

By the way, if you have SoL, the Nexus is hands down the best spot to practise brass for all those 42- bards out there. (Mobs are static and it's a PvP disabled zone).
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 10 2001 at 2:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Just in Response to the question about brass skill. It just so happens that I found the perfect spot at around the time I got the song. Make your way into the basement of High Keep and go to the back of the guard room. There is a spot behind a wall that is completely open and has nothing to be effected by your AE fear song. I would park the bard back there with a few sacks of food and water and then go to work or sleep or even out of town at times and when I returned his skill would be maxed.
# Mar 05 2001 at 3:51 AM Rating: Default
Another spot I have found very useful with no distractions is east of the tunnel in Eastern Commons on top of the mountain. There are few that think about actually going up there and even less that see you up there. This was a prime spot to park your bard and find something else to do, at least until I let the cat out of the bag.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 04 2001 at 2:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Even better, just get to level 42, & play the song, McVaxius Berserker Crescendo. It's a Brass skill party attack buff song, thus can be safely played anywhere.
# Feb 16 2002 at 10:25 AM Rating: Default
Uh, Duh, go play in the arena, no npc's wil; get pissed at you in there, it's perfectly safe most of the time, 7th hammer don't seem to have many a$$es who will kill an afk bard practicing his songs, but your servers may be more dangerous...
# Jan 03 2001 at 2:03 PM Rating: Default
This seems like it will probably have some nice stats once tested to see if it improves songs....But Remind me again what bards need WIS for?
Wis = nothing
# Apr 05 2001 at 8:37 AM Rating: Good
OK the only thing the absolute *ONLY* thing wisdom is good for bards is if it is higher than int, it will affect the rate at which your non-melee skills increase.
To dispell some rumors:
1) Bard mana is based off of INT, not WIS.
2) WIS has only an *indirect* effect on non-melee successes and failures. That effect is: if it's higher than int it helps the rate at which your skills increase. Thus a person with very high WIS would have higher skill, and have fewer failures because of the *skill*
3) Charisma affects mind altering [mez, charm] songs (fear is unaffected by char).

Now why did Verant put WIS on a bard item?
To quote Absor:
Magic items need variety in the game. . . Not every piece of equipment will be created using a 'min/max' formula for class power.

And yes, I play a 55 bard lol so trust me on this.
later in life
# Jan 03 2001 at 2:54 PM Rating: Default
Bards use mana for a couple of songs late in life.. and that mana is based off of wisdom... thus, every lil bit is good to have...
RE: later in life
# Jan 03 2001 at 4:30 PM Rating: Good
Bards use Int for mana. I always see a white gap in my mana bar when I dump on tons of int for tradeskills. Wis is only useful for tradeskills if the bard has more wis than int gear.
RE: later in life
# Jan 04 2001 at 3:11 AM Rating: Default
Actually, Wis is what all classes use for all non-melee sucsess/failure rolls. So songs fizzling should come from low wisdom.
# Jan 04 2001 at 5:34 PM Rating: Default
Dex/Cha are more important for preventing fizzles. WIS could be a factor...but I'm not sure. It's a better idea to buff Dex/Cha directly; WIS doesn't help that much if it helps at all.
RE: But
# Jan 05 2001 at 11:50 PM Rating: Default
Two songs involve mana with the bard... one of which may never be memed by me, because if I had to use it in a pinch the group is dead anyway and so will I be when the song goes off... costs 800 mana (OW.... you ever try to med that much back with bard med which maxes at a WHOPPING 1! And before this debate begins... NO!!! mana song nor clarity works on bards so don't start a thread on that) The second mana song is one of the bards more useful in crowd control situations... A simple 10 second charm that costs only 20 mana. This of course means that you want the CHA high for the charm effect and the DEX high for any possible missed notes when refreshing the charm. This is also a WOODWIND EFFECT, which means several things.

1) If you have not increased your woodwind skill in several levels because of lack of use then you will miss notes... with or without an instrument... no matter how high you have the very easy singing skill, or your CHA/DEX (CHA really has no effect on missed notes anyway). It is imparitive to keep all of your instrument skills up.... Ever try getting off a fear in a pinch and notice that you have about ten consecutive missed notes... (low skill in brass I promise you and nothing more) Also increasing the skill increases the effect so you are boosting everything with skill increases.

2)The use of any instrument, no matter if it is a highly sought after instrument or one purchased off vendors, has a vast improvement to the song over singing. It has been my experience that the quality of the instrument also effects missed notes as well and improves on any resists the mob may factor in.

i.e. I had fewer missed notes with the Minotaur Horn over the simple bamboo reed or mouthflute. Also the skills seemed to increase faster, but I think the skill ups are really more random.

3) I am with you guys... I don't understand why a instrument that would be so useful... and though not posted I am sure has increased effects... has a WIS + when the charm requires mana and is most assuredly INT based. The Nostrolo's Tambourine provides +5 INT...

/em shrug

I can only guess, considering that many of the wind instrument based songs involve some sort of control over the mind, that perhaps wisdom may have some effect, but again only a guess.

I even have a group WIS/INT boost song... guess it would be good for group Skill working... =P

Another guess is that WIS may have a factor with the med rate... but, my bard is the only character I play and I am not to familliar with how caster classes work in their INT/WIS factors... =P

off the subject question for Echo
# Jan 08 2001 at 6:40 AM Rating: Default
I know this is off the subject but Echo sounds like he knows what hes talkin about. Im a 30th bard and i need to work on my brass skill. It seems if i just sit and play my fear song or any brass song my skill doesnt go up unless there is a mob within the AOE. Have you found this to be true alson or am i just missing my skill increases?

I sit in the tunnel in E Comm. sometimes to practice Brass and i see it go up. I target any random person around me and everyone comes up and says 'hey why are you casting on me' because Fear is AE song. That's how i know it's working. =) I have seen the brass skill go up in this situation though. Hope this helps =)

Here is how to up your brass skill starting at level 18 (Obviously since this is when you get your first brass song- Dennons Disruptive Dischord). Take that shiny new brass horn and find a low use newbie zone (I did it in South Freeport's newbie zone) find a place where plenty of low greenies wander and fire up that AOE. Go to bed or go watch some TV cause its gonna be a while but nothing can hurt you and your skill will max in a few hours.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 20 2001 at 9:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have found that you don't really need mobs with you to have your brass skill effect. I've tried it two different ways and found no special increases one way or the other. The best place i've found where you can be totally interrupted is this rock out in the middle of the bay in Firiona Vie. To get there you go off the bridge, turn RIGHT, follow the cliff till you hit the zone wall, jump off into the water and swim until you get to the rock. you have to backtrack a little, but its a big enough rock for you to sit on and play your brass song without any mobs or anything comin to get you. Its a great place. Of course now that i'm 45 i just have to play my berzerker song. In fact gonna fire up EQ now and do that while i go to work =) i have some work to do =P

My happy little bardic butt trotted off to OT one day, went to the Skyfire zone, used lvl 31 lev song, climbed on the ugly iksars, sat down, hit play, and went to a double feature movie. came back, skill's weren't maxed, but they were up, WITHOUT target, go figure. Targetting has nothing to do with how fast an instrument skill goes up, take selos for that matter, zone in, hit alt+1, take off, never do i target anything, and percussion goes up. Crawl on the iksar, equip my ugly horn, and sit there fearing the hell out of an iksar statue. Problem solved.
