Fang of the Wolf is now
WAR ROG SHM BST
BAR TRL OGR IKS VAH
Magical

Pursuing this weapon on The Combine. So far this weapon is looking like one of the cheapest magic weapons available.
Very do-able at low level, low skill
# Feb 21 2003 at 9:54 AM Rating: Decent
I completed this one pretty quickly with my new, totally twink-free shaman, but went through over 100 gnoll furs (bare minimum to make the cloak with no burns would be 64 furs). Luckily the furs are cheap (even for a low level with low cash) and I bought many of the furs off merchants in Halas. I started the quest with a tailoring skill level of 4 and when I finished the quest, I hit lvl 6 and had a tailor skill of 21. I'm wearing the cloak right now.
Only for Barbarians?
# Mar 20 2002 at 10:52 AM Rating: Good
The (pre-Luclin) screen capture of the weapon says BAR only, but the description above it says Vah Shir can use it. Does anyone know if that's true?

Edit: Vah Shir CAN use it.

Yes, I have a screen shot of its description, post-SoL.

It now says:

Class: WAR ROG SHM BST
Race: BAR TRL OGR IKS VAH
RE: Only for Barbarians?
# Nov 08 2003 at 10:13 AM Rating: Decent
On Al'Kabor this item can be used by BAR TRL OGR IKS VAH

What really piques my interest though is this:

Slot: EAR PRIMARY SECONDARY

And yes, it DOES go into an ear slot if you try putting it there? But, what's the benefit?

The benefit is it doesn't take up an inventory slot if you have an ear slot available and you can put it there until you are ready to use so you don't have to go digging through backpacks to find it.

I had about 16 of the patches, and decided to make the cloak just for fun. got tired of killing greens after about 20 minutes. Went to Surefall Galde. Several merchants had them in inventory for 1sp 4cp per patch. Scooped up 48 of them for a couple gold. Started combining. Had to buy 4 more, as I had 1 failure, and this is with 88 skill. Now I've got the cloak, which I have no use for, and I can trade it for the dagger, which I also have no use for. Guess I'll just give it away.

My point is, if you want/need one of these, go buy the patches in surefall, and you'l have the cloak in 10 minutes, for less than 1pp.

I would encourage you to kill spiderlings and spiders for silk, and combine, to get skill up. Never fail on silk combines and skill up to 21 is pretty quick.

My rogue completed this quest at level 8, 25 tailoring skill. Failed once making a quarter and several times on lesser steps, but final combine went well.

Snake fang is better
# Aug 17 2001 at 8:18 PM Rating: Decent
Isn't the fang slightly bad stats, for all the gnolls you kill to get the gnoll fur, you would be high enough to kill a giant snake, which has better stats or similar anyway. I completed this cloak with a tailoring skill of 18.
RE: Snake fang is better

The giant snake fang you are refering to is 5/27, and not a magic item. This weapon being magic and one delay point faster, it is a much better weapon to choose over a giant snake fang, for obvious reasons. And kids, lets not forget this game is called everQUEST, not everloot. Try doing a quest just for the fun of it, you may actually enjoy the game for a change...

Very well noted. I find that half of the fun of the game is from doing the quests. It is great as a break between leveling. I just wish that you got better experience out of it. There are some quests that do give a lot of exp, but 90% of them don't.

Not only fun and a great sence of accomplishment in finishing quests which take time, such as this one, but you also get exp :) I find collecting the gnol teeth and turning them in at the halas arena, 3 at a time to the lady there, I get more exp faster than if I were to fight them. So looking around for easy n00b quests are more rewarding than just the junk they hand you. You can sell the items for cash, and you get exp that you would otherwise not get. Cant beat it. Im workin on my epic weapon with my main warrior, and when i finally finish it... god im goin to be the happiest warrior in the world.
Completed the bundle
# Aug 05 2001 at 2:50 AM Rating: Default
Completed bundle with only 1 failure on 4 fur patches. Stange, since quarters worked 1st time but am lvl 67 tailor. Suggest high level tailoring skill before trying this - do not remember seeing trivial on quarters at my lvl. I am lvl 45 Druid so BB was cakewalk.
Good luck all - it CAN be done.

Failed Final Combine With 41 Skill
# Aug 01 2001 at 9:01 PM Rating: Decent
Started this cloak way back when. Decided, just because I'm stubborn, to go finish it. Cleared Blackburrow top to bottom a couple times, collected all the fur I needed, and managed to fail the final combine. My tailoring skill is 41. Wasted 2 hours stomping around Blackburrow at lvl 51. Was kinda fun getting revenge tho :)
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 27 2001 at 5:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What a collasal waste of time. You made it much harder for all the newbies hunting there so you could make an item the is below garbage to you at your level. In addition, you could've just bought the patches at the stores in Qeynos. There are always tons of them.
Is this Dual Weildable
# Jun 29 2001 at 9:47 PM Rating: Decent
This says just magic so I imagine it is Dual Weildable. Just started a Rogue on Sullon Zek and these would be good dual weild magic piercers me thinks.
Re: How to get it without failing
# Jun 13 2001 at 12:30 PM Rating: Decent
Here's your best bet:

At level 2, buy a sewing kit at the top of the ramp from one of the merchants. Go out, kill all the wooly spiders you can without going to far cause you might get hit by a couple and end up to far away from others and guards. Use their spiderling silks by combining two at a time in the sewing kit and raise your tailor up to 10. After about 50 spiders, you should get here and be about 4th level. During this time you can also start to collect the gnoll hides, which are stackable :)

At level 4-6: Kill all the gnolls you can find, even if it means going and camping for them. Until you raise your tailor skill to 15, you'll be losing 1 out of 4 attempts with combining four of the hides. This should also raise your skill to 22 once you have the 16 needed combinations to go to the next step. While you're out there, begin collecting bear pelts and saving them wherever you can or using them to make armor for yourself. As a shaman, it really saved me money. If you have more than 16 swatches at the end, that's even better. Make as many as you can.

Then combine away until you have the resultant. You can either turn it in for the Dagger and some extras or wear it.
Worthless
# May 13 2001 at 5:13 PM Rating: Default
I understand the quest ends in Halas and really only should be known to people who start there, but it is pretty worthless that only a barb can use this weapon. It is almost exactly the same as the giant snake fang I use as a magician. The only reason I'd want it, is that it is magical, and thus does magical damage. I made the patched gnoll fur bundle with about 90 furs or so total.. It is time consuming.. :)

I like the cloak for now, until I find better
Good Weapon
# May 02 2001 at 3:53 PM Rating: Default
I got this at lvl 8. I was in Blackburrow from lvl 5 on. My tailoring skill was in the Mid 20. But I failed alot. I got one of the combos of 16 by myself. After that i just got about 90 patches and next time one of the tailors looking for HQ skins was on, I sold them two skins for 30pp each if they combined my patches. She didn't have anything else going on so she did it for me.

In MHO this weapon is better than the crysknife (more damage = more damage back stabing) And you need to be lvl 15+ to get the Crysknife. There are better dagers out there, but none that a lvl 8 can get.
Completed

To do this quest you need to realy push your tailoring skills. The frist step is trivial at skill 25. Not sure on the second one. Also lvl playes a role. A friend at lvl 14 and skill 28 compleated this quest. I did it at lvl 9 skill 33.

I also have a full set of PW armor (i have up greaded some by another quest) and 5 tailored bags. 95pp from selling skins and 40pp from looting in Blackburrow. For a rogue this quest is well worth while. Got me going in the right direction.
all thjs quest does..
# Mar 08 2001 at 7:13 AM Rating: Default
..is bring your tailoring skill up... increased mine to 22 without 1 skillpoint invested.. still failing on the second step and waisted like 80 furs now.. growing out of BB while i do i probably will never finish it...
