I was wondering if you pull Sir Lucan to Zone and have someone hit him with a DoT spell just before hes dead and then you zone, would that work to prevent the bad faction?

my 2pp worth...another way to up your faction with Brother Hayle is to go a Bandit killing spree in WK. Collect the sashes and hand them into the Pally GM in Qeynos. Not only do you build faction with a number of folks, but the guy give you a weapon (bronze) or shield and a few pp for your trouble. Sell them to the vendor standing next to him. A good barometer of your faction is Brother Estle, found near the QH zone line in WK, of slightly further north in the little group of houses. He shares the same faction as Hayle, so you don't have to schlep into the Paw to find out your faction.

i was wondering if u could just do this as like a warrior and cast it from inventory and it work?
RE: wonder?????
# Jun 23 2004 at 1:47 PM Rating: Default
It used to be that the CH charges of a Soulfire sword were clickable from inventory from any class.

However, when this was exploited in SOEs Test of Tactics, the ability to click from inv (at least by non-paladins) was removed from Soulfire, and the Ghoulbane was made NO DROP in the same patch.

The Test of Tactics itself was cynically labelled the "Test of Soulfire" - at least, by guilds who didnt load themselves up with clicky CH Soulfires before the fights.

SOE's explanation was that the Soulfire and Ghoulbane are "Holy Swords", but the reason was that Soulfire was being exploited in official PvP contests.

i just killd lucan at level 44, my group was a 53 paladin, me and a 42 cleric, i pulled him and zoned while someone hailed him, we easily killed him and his skeleton but his friends didnt get all the way back so one of us were killed by them

I also camped the sk for like 25 minutes and got the hilt
Lucan...and then the Fiery Avenger
# Feb 01 2004 at 6:47 AM Rating: Excellent
First things first, Lucan is a pushover nowadays.
Easily pulled him and his minions to a safe point by zone and let someone else hail him while his buddies left him for the smackdown...

Group consisted of 52 Pally, 2x 52 Rangers and a 45 Warrior. Lay Hands was required but no one ended below 75% health and were only selfbuffed. Many thanks to the brave Teanaa, Erolius, Soddof and me (Gohades) on the Vallon Zek Server!

Secondly, does using the CH effect prevent it from being used for the Fiery Avenger Quest?

I spent about an hour killing PH in Mistmoore to spawn, Xitcotl, a Troll SK. I had good luck getting him to pop only after an hour of camping. When he popped, Jaccie, my fiancee, a 45 Cleric, came to my aid as quick as she could on horseback. I had a pretty good tactic of pulling Xitcotl from deep inside MM to the zoneline. We had several adds, both green and dark blue, during the fight. Jaccie did a wonderful job of keeping up with heals, and I soon had a piece of my epic complete.

Now on to bigger things... An hour later we headed to Freeport West to take on Sir Lucan D'lere, the Warrior Guildmaster of Freeport. He is a corrupt invidual, as much as WFP is. He lied to and decieved much of the good Clerics and Paladins in the Temple of Life. He is level 48.

We buffed up and I had Jaccie wait on the zone line to Eastern Commonlands. If I was going to pull Sir Lucan the Warrior Guildmaster, A LOT of guards were obviously going to aggro. I lulled as many guards as I could, but once I stunned Sir Lucan for the pull, he did a zonewide shout for a call to arms from his guards. Seemingly every guard was on my tail and off I ran to Jaccie near the East Commonlands zone line. I pulled the guards as close as I could to the zoneline before I finally zoned of aggro. I had Jaccie chain Hail Sir Lucan to keep him at the zoneline while the other guards walked back to their posts. As soon as I zoned back in, the beatdown commenced.

It was probably one of the longest fights I've ever done in EQ, including Agnarr the Stormlord in BoT to save Karana and fighting the War God, Rallos Zek. Sir Lucan was commonly quading for 119 a pop, he resisted 70% of my stuns. Jaccie did a wonderful job of casting Complete Heal as soon as I got down to under 20% health, very efficient. Jaccie got down to 5% mana by the time things were said and done, and I still had my Lay of Hands ready to go. It was VERY, VERY close fight. I can't stress that enough. I honestly don't think we could of done it if were even one level lowers than we both were. Jaccie had a KEI and I had a temp, and that helped tremendously!

Next, I had to do some tradeskill work and talk to some NPCs to get a few more items for the sword. I also had to kill two other piddily mobs before I could do the final hand in. I was distraught to find out that I did not have the necessary faction to complete the quest. So I had to do 2 hours worth of faction work (handing 2gp at a time to Novashine in Qeynos), which was mind numbingly dull. However, I made it, and was the proud new owner of a flaming sword of doom, the SoulFire.

The sword itself sucks compared to other droppable 2HS out there, but it is more of a novelty item purely for the looks for Paladins. It DOES have a REALLY useful effect of five charges of Complete Heal which will come in handy when we go on to take tough mobs. I know it will be a life and a raid saver. Thanks for reading!

Took this guy down about 3 hours ago. Solo. 47 bard. Gotta love lull song, eh? Guess I'm lucky that most of them didn't resist it. Living Lucan was annoyingly resistant, but when he was Undead.. He didn't resist a single song.

Went to Splitpaw for the final turn in, Brother Hayle was warm to me. I figured it was close enough, and it was. 2 turn ins later, and SoulFire. So, it doesn't HAVE to be ally faction.

I had real problems doing this quest. Heck if I know what I killed that screwed up my faction so bad. Anyway, the first time I turned in the items, I multiquested the hilt (dropped by Xicotl in MM), but due to lousy faction, I lost all of the items. The GM wouldn't return the items because I MQ'd. Did the whole thing again (no MQ this time). Got my faction to amiable and tried again. He kept them again (I should have paid attention to the ally faction advice). Asked GM to return the items. He did. Killed a million or so bandits in NK, turned in the sashes and finally got faction up to ally. Went back again. The schmuck kept them again. From what I understand, I turned in the wrong note. GM to the rescue again. FINALLY turned in the right stuff and got the sword. It is sitting in the bank. I'm not sure if I'll proceed, but thought I'd let you know that this quest is a royal pain.

I read alot of different posts. Be safe get yourself to ally use the fish in the paladin pool. Make a level 1-2 monk and slay fish. Log on your Paladin and loot the fish hand in to Erik. I went from Kindly to Ally in (7) fish.

Go to Splitpaw with friend to let you out of cell or with gater to port you out. Turn in and Boom Soulfire.

Getting to Ally
# Jun 16 2003 at 8:51 AM Rating: Decent
Go to the pool by the Hall of Truth in Queynos. Have a friend or you if your boxing make a mule. Have the mule kill the mule kill the fish in the pool and you loot them. Give the fish scales to Erin ( i think ) Takes about 10 fish scales and tada youre ally. Allot faster than 40 sashes, even tho that work. I went from Amiable to Ally in about 30-40 mins. ) I works.

If you're KOS from killing HHK guards/nobles
# Jun 14 2003 at 9:30 PM Rating: Default
If you are KOS from everyone in HHK from killing the guards/nobles, you can still turn in the HK key 102 to the assistant with the hide trick.

Hit the assistant with calm/pacify to reduce agro range. then open trade window with hk 102. have someone invis or superior camo you so you disappear. then hit the trade button to hand the assistant your key. you should then be able to get the needed note.

DO NOT give the assistant the key if you're KOS con, she will eat it (much to my dismay).

Also, even being KOS to all the faction hits that HHK guard deaths gives you I was still able to hand in and get soulfire from brother hayle after doing the bandit sash quest about 40 times.

hope it helps.
Soulfire quest has been changed please help!!
# Jun 11 2003 at 4:47 PM Rating: Decent
My friend and I are trying to complete the first part of the pally epic for the soul fire. We got the H.K. 102 key and you are suppose to give it to the banker in Highkeep. But that is impossible to do now with the new patch that makes it so you cant give items to bankers. The guides will only tell us that the person you give the key to is no longer the banker and to ask other pally's who to take it to. Its not like the pally epic is confusing as it is, now they do this. If you know who to give the H.K. 102 key please to leave a reply or email me at angelzzhaven@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Did this about a month ago with my level 15 pally ... my 65 sk friend soloed lucan. Anyway i didnt want to turn in the stuff till my faction was ally... i handed 2 gold to novashine in qeynos exactly 800 times... faction went from dub. to amible... so i didnt know what to do lol ... i read a post about bandit sashes. Well, i got my level 59 druid friend to help me get some sashes. we went to the karanas and switched from 3 bandit camps. took 1 hr to get 40 sashes. turned all in to get ally with the people there. Also you get an item for every sash. i sold the items to the vendor next to him for around a total of 100pp. when we arrived at hayle he was only warmly. i turned everything in and he gave me a note. turned that in and got my SoulFire.

faction is important!
# Mar 20 2003 at 1:29 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest a while ago. 2x! The first time I was warmly to Brother Hayle. Turned everything in and lost it. Asked a GM. Must be ALLY! There are easy ways to raise faction. The give gold to Lahuna (sp?) in N. Qeynos is one. The fish in Temple of Life is another. Also killing the piranas (I think) in Temple of Marr in FP is another. Needless to say took me forever to do quest again. But I'm happy with it. Onto Fiery Avenger!! GL all! The end result is worth it!Just search around here for quest that give faction. Also it is possible to raise FP faction back up w/o losing Temple faction. Erud's tonic is it. Just takes over 2500 times to do it:)

# Apr 22 2003 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
Once you are locked inside you may be able to get out by waiting for the gnoll prisoners to spawn and attacking them until they run away - causing them to open the door. A friend of mine said it worked for him.

I did the quest last night on my paladin. I had all the pieces needed and my faction was warmly in qeynos and ally in FP. When i turned in all the stuff, brother hayle said "your sight offends me leave now." or something to that fact.
My paly is a frog though is there something that the frogs have to do different to get the soulfire? I have seen a few of them in screen shots of frogs with soulfire so I know they can do it.
any help would be great. This is the third time killing lucan and that troll in MM is such a long friggin wait.

Oh and just FYI for faction. My frog after doing the quests ended up threateningly in FP very quickly, but after spending some time down in HHK and getting goblin ears, I have managed to bring my Freeport militia faction back up to doubious and that is after killing Lucan so you can fix your faction, but Captain Bosec must have a store house of goblin ears from me just to get to doubious.

Brother Hayle isn't a knight of truth, but a priest of Life........you have to at least be warmly to Life faction before you can get the soulfire.....

Based on what you have said I think I have found your problem
- There is a war going on in FPort btw the Militia and the Knights of Truth
- In order to get Soulfire you need ally with the Knights (Specifically Brother Hayle) and you NEED KOS with Militia
- The reward of Soulfire is given for becoming the ally of the KoT and hence the enemy of the FP Militia
- What you need to do to get Soulfire is become KoS in Freeport as badly as you can possibly get it
- Kill all FPort guards that you can They are EVIL SoBs anyway Then when you con Brother Hayle he MUST be you ALLY Meaning Militia MUST be KoS

EVERYTHING IN THIS POST IS WRONG.

First, you have the wrong faction. As someone else points out.

Second, you don't HAVE to be KOS to Freeport Militia, to be ally to Knights of Truth. My cleric is max ally to knights of truth, and priests of marr, and amiable to freeport militia.

Also, I have NEVER, EVER in several years of playing EQ, seen a quest that requires bad faction with any group. Usually, the bad faction is just a side effect of getting the opposing faction high enough.

For faction with temples in Qeynos, Try killing the skeletons at the camp near the bridge in South Karana. I needed ally to temple of life for Aegis of Life quest, and got it pretty quick whacking those guys.

The skeletons do lower FP Militia and Corrupt Qeynos Guards, so you'll end up back at highkeep turning in ears/scalps for faction.
