Defiance Vs. Lamentation
# Mar 26 2003 at 1:59 PM Rating: Default
Allright, I just have one question: Why are Defiances worth so much more than Lamentations now adays? I see Lammies going for 1-2k and Defiances going for 3-4k on my server (Tholuxe Paells). When you compare their stats, lammies are just as good if not better.

Lamentation:
Damage: 9
Delay: 19
Ratio: 2.111 Str: +6 Sta: +6 HP: +20

Defiance:
Damage: 9
Delay: 19
Ratio: 2.111 AC: +10 Str: +6 Dex: +8

They have the exact same ratios, the only difference I see is that lammies have 20HP and 6 STA instead of 10AC and 8 DEX. Is that little thing really worth 3k? As a warrior, I would take the 6 STA 20 HP over the 10 AC anytime. Is it just an issue of rarity here or am I missing something big?

I already have a Lammy and want to buy a Defiance so I can dual-wield them. The costs difference (in my opinion) is due to the Defiance having AC whereas the Lammy doesn't. Next time you are in the bazaar do a search for 1 HS weapons that have AC and you'll find that it's a short list.

So what we are really talking about here is the one basic rule of any marketplace - supply vs demand. There's a high demand for 1 HS weapons that have AC and a low supply on hand for purchase.

The difference lies in the 10 AC that the defiance offers. IMHO i belive that this makes the Defiance a better weapon amd worth more. As a ranger, AC is very important to me. To have a weapon that hits hard and fast, gives needed stat buffs (str and dex), and adds significantly to my AC was worth the coin to get the Defiance. That is just my humble opinion though.

It's because with a twink where complete heal is not available, AC > HP. HP become more important when CH becomes available.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 18 2003 at 9:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) With my war, and druid and 5-10 of my guild mates all 63-65 camp the protectors and loot these about 2 every 5 hours. then we sell in bazaar for like 1500 plat each, an easy money making buisness. BTW those who didn't catch it these are lore items and I hold 1 and the rest of the memebers hold on till we full so I'm not lying just in case =).

Only 1 problem I see with that. Why would someone whos obviously post Vex Thal even bother with an item that only sells for 1500pp? Hell, I'm barely Tier 2 and can camp better XP than that. Somehow I have the feeling that you are full of BS.

So heres my problem, i currently have these 4 wepeons in my possession:
Defiance
Crystalline Short Sword
Wurmslayer
Venomous Axe of the Velium Brood
I am also thinking of purchasing a Lammy or Centi LS
Im trying to decide whats the best combo for a lvl 38 ranger, and im asking because i haven't tested them out yet, im going through a weps phase atm trying to decide a good combo for my lvl. Also is it worth buying a lammy or a centi LS or is a combo out of these 4 weps good enuff. Any experienced rangers have any ideas? i am a part time solo part time grouping ranger, with decent gear, but keep in mind that my sta sux. Another question: how long will this combo that people have suggested will last me? which should go in primary and which in secondary? up to my 50s when i get my epic? thx

Defiance/Venom Axe combo
# Oct 17 2002 at 6:23 AM Rating: Default
This is my plan until I can get to the higher level better weapons. With Defiance and Venon Axe that's +20AC on weapons....that is very nice and since I want the venom axe to proc as often as I can possibly get it to I'm pushing for DEX stats as well on other items.

The Defiance is much like the lammy cept giving dex vs sta and hp's on the lammy, and proably can be a good swap/trade even stevens if one is patient.

The Proc of the Venon axe is nice and with two procs within one minute puts it's dmg output way above the defiance, lammy, centi LS and wurmslayer(cept for crits)...yah yah I know you can say it gets resisted and may not proc an so n so....but, it is procing with my 140 dex and it's procing on an avg of 2 times per minute....that gives it a 13.74 dps on avg. Having a fast dly in primary also helps with call of sky procs as well I'm finding, but, i'm still going to experiment with Venon Axe in primary to see how many procs it gets there vs secondary....it may be the better weapon if it procs 4 times within a minute.

It's a great offhand weapon any way, with defiance or lammy for the primary, I just like the Defiance for it's AC and extra DEX over the lammy myself. And with a cleric in the group I don't worry about agro, from what I've seen so far the warriors need to be healed as much as I do on a regular basis, my AC is over 900 so that makes me a contender at the level I am at right now for tanking material ;) And it is often I that saves the casters from death vs the stupid warriors who's taunt suks.

With the ranger dodge cap going to 170 (woot) and offense skills improving to equal or above pally level, this now makes the Ranger a more formidable melee class than before....Pallys go home ;)

For Warriors though I would go wurmy primary and venon axe secondary and at least get your dex stat to 95 or 100. Dex determines procs and "CRITICALS", therefore you want as much dex as you can have, but, still leaning toward your STR stat because of the dmg output. When a Wurmy CRITS you gonna smile. Will give you great bragging rights for sure. If you can get your dex to 150 even better, you will proc and critical even more often than before. The Centi LS is a nice primary weapon for warriors also that cannot afford high priced weapons, it does some excellent criticals as well, but, not near as much as wurmy.

Now if you want to be an agro machine then Defiance or Lammy and Venon Axe with 100 dex will work as well, but, to me though a warrior with lammy or defiance is like a Knight using a Rapier to fight with, just doesn't seem realistic...warriors should carry massive dmging weapons, so the wurmy/venon axe would be my choice and will be my choice as my warrior now levels up....atm he's using Centi LS and Centi SS and doing quite well at level 20 was killing Pickclaw WARRRIORS and HITTING them relatively easy. Dwarf Warriors rock because of the nice starting dex stat.

Well thas my 2 cents, feel free to flame or blame...doesn't matter to me for I am happeee ;)

Here is how I believe how warriors should equip themselves. I just dinged my warrior to 49 by the way. If the warrior is the MAIN tank of the group then use the two fastest weapons you have. Agro is a strange thing. I dual weild two lamentations right now and soon will be using a defiance/lamentation combo. I was fighting in a group with a wizzard that had Ice Comet. While smacking the mob with my two lamentations the wiz would drop a 1100 point ice comet on them. Mob would turn to run at wiz and only one click of taunt would get mob back onto me. Each time you hit a mob you get points onto their hate list. I do not think it is based on how much damage you do as much as number of hits.

If you are in a group where you are not the main tank, then switching to bigger damage dealing weapons may be useful. Bring out the big guns if you are supporting main tank, keep to the fast ones if you are main tank.

If you perform your role correctly in a group then the casters will live. Big deal if you did not do as much damage as they did.

Wurmslayer is a big weapon but it is slow as molasses on a cold winter's day. If you are a warrior, using a wurnslayer as your primary you will have a hard time keeping agro during a fight. Centi-LS are not much better. Ratios are important but the delay is king. Go for short delay weapons.

Uhh Warriors should be carring massive damaging weapons? Well as nice as that is our massive damaging weapons are 2hs only and still lesser than a Pally or SK weapons, Especially for 1hs. If you actually look at the warrior description they are not a heavy damage class. And any warrior using a Wurmy after Lvl 45 is WASTING his class. At 54 I have more Hp than Rangers 2 and even 4 Lvls higher than me. Buffed I am breaking the 4K mark. If I switched to a Wurmy as you claim I may do some great crits. But meanwhile the ranger just died the bard fell and the chanter now has 2 mobs slapping them around. And Hey I got aggro after the Cleric died. Yay Me! Good thing I went Heavy damage thoes 4k Hp I have will last just long enough for the mobs to wipe out the group then turn their atention tward the ineffective warrior. The Wurmy is IMNSHO a Terrible weapon to begin with. The damage may be great but is way to slow even with good haste gear and Bard/Chanter haste. Right now Im using a Wavecrasher in my primary hand and will be purchasing a Defiance as soon as I get the pp gathered to do it.
RE: Defiance/Venom Axe combo
# Jun 11 2003 at 8:00 PM Rating: Default
Agreed. Warriors are tanks, that mean we take the damage while others dish it out on the mob. We need fast hits to maintain agro. My 1HS weapon may only crit 60-70, but if I can keep the mob focused on me then my job has been done. :-) I'm am about to purchase defiance for just that reason. BTW regarding the prices wuestion posted above, Defiance and lammys go for about the same price on KB 3-4K.

Just my 2cp worth.

Well as it turns out I'm happy so far with the Lammy/Veno combo, and instead of the Myth Skull Splitter I ended up with a Jade Inlaid Crescent Axe for group siutations where I want a slower weapon that doesn't draw as much agro. Still looking for opinions on any improvements I might make to that mix though...

P.S. My SK ended up with the Polished Shai'din Naginata and loves it... =)

Weapons Combo...
# Aug 07 2002 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
This may not be the correct place to post this but it seemed somewhat relevant since Defiance is one of the weapons I'm considering. My question is, what combo would you use for a Ranger that doesn't care about drawing/holding agro since he's soloing anyway? WAS dual wielding Lammys and finding it woefully inadequate. Just got a Veno Axe for off hand but haven't tried it yet. Should I stick with that for the time being or add Defiance, Blade of the Seneschal or some other higher dmg output wep to the mix somewhere? Thoughts/opinions greatly appreciated...

P.S. and no, I don't/wouldn't use this combo in a group and expect to live long... =) Working on getting Mythril Edged Skull Splitter or Polished Shai'din Naginata for grouping purposes.

Unless you have a 35% or greater haste item somewhere else, I would use the Velium Swiftblade in the off-hand. Bazaar on Mith Marr sells them regularly for 2k.

Umm this is much better than the Lammy. The weight is nothing. Look at the 10 AC. That's 10 AC! Trust me to get 10 AC on a weapon is well worth the extra money. This weapon is worth it.

I don't see the the price holding up at 8-9k for much longer on any server.

Lammy is Lighter and way cheaper and the few stats it gives just dont justify the price increase on this heavy weapon. Okinawa Japan

First,
Many peeps from diferent countries play this game so don't bad mouth a guy because his writing isn't very good.

Second,
He is right, Rangers with low delay weapons are asking for a corpse recovery.

Read it again, he said EXACTLY what you said AFTER your closed mind flamed him for it.

Rangers are damage DEALERS! Not takers.

Get yourself a Wurmy or other high ratio weapon with a greater delay.

As a cleric I for one hate having rangers in my group with low delay weapons.

Ranger with Defiance = Mana Sieve for cleric.

1) Gnoshfurt: Did you actually read the post above before flaming? If they were from another country I doubt they would be referring to a Ranger as "Ranga."
2) Whether it's a language issue or roleplaying, it's still a bad post, and I have rated it as such.
3) 55 Warrior couldn't get aggro from a 50 Ranger? That's just sad...

Centi's are indeed lore now - nothing but on new drops. same stats, but cant duel weild. I have 2 non-lore and 1 lore.

Edit: In response to the post below - these were on 2 different warrior alts. Lore Centi's circulated for a while, I do not know for sure if they are still dropping.

as a 53 ranger this isnt that good for main hand, and lsoee for ratio is better offhand. delay important main and here lammy wins for a ranger, why weight this is 5.0 sta gotta get over 100 and real muther to wield lammy is lighter. good for defence but as a ranger im either assisting so atk all important, get aggro jolt, or main tank in certain places and ac dont matter with cleric healing so keeping aggro important and not waiting for refresh stamina. i only main tank if ma is down or helping guildies with l blue mobs to me or i know the area real well and im pulling

I'm forced to agree with dilthanas on this one, as a Wood Elf ranger (48 currently) who still has to be careful about getting and keeping sta over 100, the Lammy wins out over this. The 5.0wt on this drags the sta bar down fast with that 19 delay, so casting Invigorate on yourself every fight is necessary, and annoying. I'm stickin to my nice light (0.6) lammy in the main hand, just my 2cp

I have to disagree with you sta isnt that big a problem u WONT go down to min sta in a fight if its above 85 I was awarded this blade yesterday and it beat teh hell out of a lammy, my ac is just over 1010 unbuffed now. 5 weight is not that bad we took out several more zeks (these guys have ALOT of HP esp wehn they CH themsleevs twice in a fight) and my sta only reeched 1 bub (that was when he Ched himself twice) altho my sta is over 90 this was a LONG fight. In normal sit in grp or solo u shouldnt have a problem with this blade. Esp in grp. Please excuse my typing i know its bad no need to flame it

It's me wolve again, with a little hindsight from my last post (was 48 then 53.9 now). While i see now that the stamina issue isn't nearly as large at 53, there is another larger problem that bothers me more. After saving up for god knows how long, i finally got some SCHW(silverchitin handwraps) about a week ago, and realized for a class not concerned with getting agro, but just sheer damage, 9/19 is basically wasting a good haste item, while going with a little slower, but higher damage (a defiance in main with swiftwind in offhand is just horrid dmg output and hits like a bb gun. trust me i tryed it out)
With the SCHW and A crystalline SS(12/24) and JBoM(13/25), with haste figured in, they run around 12/19 | 13/20.
Compare that to lammy and defiance 9/17 x2.

Max hits with the lammy/defiance combo were in the 40-50 range averaging in the 30's.
Max hits with CSS/JBoM combo were 65-70, averaging in the low 50's.
Both of these tests were done with 185str by a 53 ranger with 225 in 1hs(thanks to my friends in velks for the weapons to experiment with).
Defiance officially gets my label of Warrior only, main hand only (9dmg in the offhand is jus sad dmg guys, come on)
The Defiance has it's good points, but lacks the b*tch-slap yo momma damage that i like on my weapons. As far as stats go, ( i know some non-ranger is gonna read this and go "but defiance has dex!), the CSS/JBoM combo comes out like this on total stats...
3ac 4str 4int 6agi 6cha 10dex 10svM
Lammy/defiance
10ac 12str 6sta 8dex 20hp

Make your choice as you see fit (i know there are better combo's out there, but this is one that i can afford, and seems to feel very good in the hands), but the added damage on the slower combo, far outweighs the slightly more ac and str.

This is not flaming but its just my 2pp on this one. Fer one i can see where the rangers want to get big dmg with low aggro...but i hate seeing a fast weapon go to the Ranger....fer one alotof ppl don't relize how important Rangers aren't ment to tank...they are peelers/jolters... they take command of crowd control. They would be much better suited with a Wurmy/Cls combo instead of a Lammy/Defiance... no offense but see Big dmg hits over a slow time doesn't cause aggro.. but a constant hit of 35's dmg every 3 secs causes big aggro....also alot of ppl don't relize this yes it is a waste of haste with a lammy lammy combo but not totally true...

Take this ok this is just an idea not a proven fact... but lets say this...

Both have haste at 22% (SCHW's)
You have a Staslayer/Centi LS
I havea Lammy/Lammy combo...

You would outdmg me in the hit to hit dmg output but in dmg over time i will out dmg you. Because i am striking more often...

Now on the high end of a warrior a lammy/lammy combo is VERY weak... most warriors want a 13/21 somwhere close to that.. give or take a a few this being also weapons that proc.....

Bloodfire/Velium Swift blade and high DEX equals outa good aggro hold...possibly. If it procs enough being the proc has a 504dmg DoT. So i don't know i have yet to exp the high end side of EQ but i am gettin there...Check out my current setup this is my first char in EQ but not my first ever RPG lol. So i know how **** works but point being.....

Rangers = Crowd control / Jolting...
Warriors = Meat shields.
Clerics = Duh healing / and NUKING ....
Chanters = More crowd control / and Kei lol...
Wizzys = Nukage
Druids = Assist healing / DoT's..
Rogues = BIG DMG WITH NO AGGRO bwhahahah

rogues have to be a personal fave even though I i have never played one but i love seeing

So and So Backstabes fer 354 dmg lol i love it...

Pallys = Emergency heal = Stun /Taunt
SK = Lol someone fill me in i don't know if they are used the same as a Pally...
Bard = Bards are a must fer alot of situations... they have alot of helpful abilitys...
I really don't like BST so i don't know what there for lol
Monks = Good pullers / Good assisting the dmg output
Shammys = Assist dmg / Buffage
dunno how necros ae played....and i dunno how maggis are played lol but these are just my 2cp.. on this...anyone can flame away at my ideas on this.

I am sorry to put this one out cause ppl who know the game will be like well not **** gegolian but ALOT of ppl think a Ranger can just jump in and do what a warrior does..and its not even how they need to be played... If ppl would know how to properly use the class they are using they can get alot further in EQ...

RE: dual wield
# Sep 21 2002 at 12:28 PM Rating: Default
Here is how it actually works.

Warriors are the best Main Tanks. Good DMG output and sponge.

Paladins are good Tanks, they can absorb damage well, but do not deal it as well. The cleric type spells are good for maintaining aggro and sometimes doing spot heals.

Shadow Knights are also good Tanks. They absorb damage, but cannot deal it as well. The Necro type spells that they have are good for maintaining aggro, and FD makes them to be good pullers as well.

Rangers are Damage Dealers. They should never maintain aggro, as their AC/HP can't maintain a beating. They are not "Peelers", crowd control should be handled by Enchanters or Bards, unless targets are unmezzable, in which case you should tank root adds by sticking a paladin/sk/warrior on the mob to keep aggro.

Rogues are Damage Dealers. They should never maintain aggro, as their AC/HP can't maintain a beating.

Monks are great Damage Dealers, but poor tanks. FD makes them arguably the best pullers in the game.

Bards are the pointman of the game, they can do a little of just about everything. Mezz, haste, resist, damage, just name what you need. Note that while they have a lot of abilities, they are not nearly as good at any one thing as the other classes that have that ability.

Enchanters are crowd control. Also haste/mana regen buffs, and can debuff to an extent.

I won this last night and I felt real bad for the warriors and rangers that had been there. We were three guilds and im sure I mad alot of people sick winning this. Im a paladin so you can imagine. This is a great weapon but after trying it vs my wurmslayer and I use CoCW giving me 36% im thinking im better off with the Wurmslayer. Im sure I will use Defiance on uber mobs whos AC is so high that I will hit for low anyways but truthfully I should not have been able to roll on this. So from a paladin view only let true duel wielding tanks use this guys. Laters

If you felt that horrible about it you should have declined your roll... But ya didn't. But don't feel bad, anyone and their momma should be happy to nab one. If you find yourself kickin yourself in the butt in a few weeks just pass it on to a good ranger in your guild. Would make him happy, and you ARE that nice a guy right? I mean you feel so bad about winning it in the first place? :)
RE: What?

Well not to long after I posted this I gave the weapon to our 2nd main tank in the guild since he was not in kael when we were rolling. Needless to say he almost fell off his chair. It was cool also considering that from that one act 3 other people down the line got upgraded weapons from me giving defiance to replace a lammy. If your a paladin a wurmslayer is better ratio then this weapon so I didn't lose out one bit.

Rofl.....hehe i am an paladin myself, and in my guild we don't roll on items, you either get em awarded or not. So guess what i got this blade awarded an couple of weeks ago, and thus this paladin was the 1st in the guild to ever wield such an weapon.....weird isn't? :)

Your guild/raid leader is crazy then to award this to a paladin
RE: What?

Hey, maybe the paladin was using a rusty longsword or something :)

BTW this is a great tank weapon if your considering about creating agros.. and the extra 10AC is a plus. Weapons with lower delay tend to create a good amt of agro also. Like swiftblade of zek is an awesome for the main tank in your guild to keep the taunts and so forth.
These aren't that rare
# Jul 27 2001 at 12:08 AM Rating: Excellent
Sorry but these things ARENT that rare, yes VERY nice weapon, but our guild stayed near the arena for around 5-6 hours straight, and 3 of these dropped, including that 34/48 2hs weapon which dropped twice.. not sure if pay 35k is worth it.. maybe if one is willing to pay for that amt.. but doubt it.

Camped arena for over 30 hours total up to date(been there more, and but only 30 with PoZ doable raids) Only seen one of these drop. Is random mostly. See alot of an item one day and not see it again. For us the thunder etched items drop in clusters. Seen 2 gauntlets one day, no other times. Seen 3 pauldrons another, and no other time. I think your got lucky with 3 in a camp. Also is 2 types of PoZ. One type has capital P other does not. Capital drops the ranger head for their PoG helm quest
Defiance, and on the stamina point
# Jul 16 2001 at 3:21 PM Rating: Decent
Defiance is probably one of the best weapons I'll ever have the priviledge of owning.

About 6 groups of 45-60 went on a Kael raid. After making it to the Arena, pulls started coming in and lo and behold a Protector of Zek comes out with a couple buddies. We got really lucky this night in that he dropped a defiance. Lucky me won the roll and it must have made a whole bunch of people there sick because I was the lowest level tank on the raid (46 at the time.)

When figuring the damage on this weapon, you'll need to account for the primary hand damage bonus (if it's in your primary hand) of (level - 25) / 2. At my current level of 47, minimum hit is going to be (1 + levelbonus) or 12. Maximum hit will be (((2 * 9) + 1) + levelbonus) or 30. Crits can go up to ((2*maxhit)+1) or 60.

On the point of stamina, I had previously had only 100 (Dark Elf). Recnetly got an item which raised it to 105 and was pleasantly relieved to find that the 105 stamina does indeed keep me from slowing down. I haven't confirmed it with a log parser (yet) but I'm pretty sure there'd be a noticable difference if I were slowing down.

If you do go to Kael, remember 2 things:
1) /assist (of course :)
2) When the mob is enraged, *Back off!* With a little over 3khp I lasted about 10 seconds against an enraged mob (400 a pop, quad hits).

"2) When the mob is enraged, *Back off!*"

actually, hitting it from behind when enraged allows you to do damage and not get smacked by the effect...so, when something enrages, pretend your a rogue =)

k ummm very nice sword, almost bought one for 18k today if i had been able to sell my lammy for 10k i would have. tho most people are asking 30k on xegony i was even hesitant to pay 18k if i could. Excellent that the item has ac, and for it to have dex is a godsend, stamina is super easy to get for a warrior, dex isnt without sacrificing ac gear.... But in the 40k range how about the 12 ac giving whip with nutty proc? Frostbringer ive seen for 25k and i would take any day over it, Crescented blades of luclin?? This is nice but not worth that much imo

I REALLY want one of these. Good ratio and the AC too. But 30k? Maybe it'll be cheaper over time. This weapons looks great too. Like Sanark Skullspliter. I'd take one of these over my Lammy any day...who wouldn't?

Stamina

Warriors with over 100 stamina have no ill effects from total stamina drain.. besides not being able to jump. At the level you'd need to get this weapon 100 stamina is a joke even for a wood elf : )

Personally I think the ranger that posted about needing the extra AC was on target, but hey.. you're a ranger.. do alot of damage and jolt the damn thing off ya and back to the warrior where it belongs.. don't get hung up on AC, you're never gonna tank as good as a warrior.. deal with it and enjoy your higher damage output, buffs, healing spells, snare etc..
