In one short evening session I got 10 giant heads from the small fort in the great divide. As a level 51 beastlord I could carefully solo the camp. It was particulary easy to start as I was not KOS to the giants. Fortunately that is fixed now and they hate me as much as I hate them.
the heads drop, just be patient. i had all ten of my heads before i collected four toes.
oh, btw this quest is multi questable if you wanted to know.
i accidiently turned in the combined box of heads with out giving the dorf the shawl... wasn't the least bit happy with myself as you may guess... but, after a bunch of leary momments i handed borannin the burlap coldain shawl and i heard the trumpets blearing and i jumped... rand around thurgadin shoing everyone my shawl... too bad there were only two lvl 65people who could have cared less... but i was happy... i didn't have to start over... not that i had gotten very far... but still... i had already spent probably six hours trying to get toes and heads... because other people in the group were doing the quest to... i hate sharing quest stuff... but if you have to, you have to...
good luck on this quest everyone it looks to be a doozie!
oh, p.s. i was hunting giants in the great divide... didn't try killing anywhere else, seemed to get more heads and toes off of scouts then berserkers and ellites... but that may have been because we killed more. never saw anything on the named giants... killed them four times.
my friend still needs two toes and 7 heads... he started after i already had all my heads... if i see a change in how things drop after doing that i'll post again

It just "sucks" because you haven't done all of the quests, and this is just the start of what you should look at as a long quest with a great reward at the end of it.
Ok... I've seen mention in a couple places about having to wait some time before you can do the next quest etc..
Can anyone confirm this?
And if so... how long do you have to wait and how can you tell?
I ask because I figure I can do Part 1 & 2 of the quest pretty much simultaneously but I don't want to lose my Burlap Shawl handing it in to him because I haven't waited the specified time period etc...
Any info regarding this would be much appreciated.
don't forget the mana on the seal that more than makes up for the wis lost on the shoulders for the moment. Added int and saves is great! I dumped my adam eps. for the shawl and seal. Its only gonna get better.
Yesterday while in Thurgadin, I checked in on our "[chore]" friend. I said, Hail, and he said, "I have another task for you". He gave me a coin, and a lore item, which I couldn't take from him, because I have it, and I'm thinking it might be the shawl?! At any rate, he says to take the coin to Mordrin(sp), the meat and baker guy n the city. I hailed Mordrin, and he doesn't indicate a further quest until I gave him the coin, which included exps, napkin to give to some guy Lori(sp again), faction(normal faction, plus Dain Frostreaver IV faction), plus instructions on what to do next. He says to make a meal for Lori(sp), which includes the a piece of Kodiak Bear Meat baked in an oven with a Jug of sauces. Take the mixture of those two, and mix it in a mixing bowl with a loaf of broad. That end result and the rooled up napkin go to this "Lori" person. The loaf of bread and the Jug of Sauces can be purchase I've found by one of the vendors in the bank, I'm assuming the bowl is player made, and kill a Kodiak for the meat. Don't know if this Lori guy continues the Prayer Shawl quest after handing him these items or not, but it's a start from the same person, that left us off with quest. I'll be checking it out again tonight.
People are all assuming it follows the ring quest exactly. Who is to say the third mantle may be ac3 +3int +3 cold +2 magic, fourth could be ac4 +4int +4 cold +3magic +2fire... who knows, like everyone said, isnt too many items for +int to shoulder slot. Sad thing is I sold 5 toes before I knew of the quest and now I havent gotten anymore. Toes sell to vendor for 7pp and you can buy them back for the low price of 422pp. Well just have to see where it goes from here I guess.
If this quest is anything like Garadains ring quests, the final item will be VERY nice. Garadain gives you an AC 1 Str +1 MR +1 ring to start off. The final ring is AC 8 Str +8 MR +8 and a permanent damage shield of 8. See the progression here. The first ones suck, but the final should be VERY nice.
I would say that the new part of the quest will give a 3/3 shawl, then 4/4, up to what ??? just dream of it, since it is no drop, it will be a great item to own.
Check the posting date. You are apparently unaware that it took people time to discover and complete the quest after it was added to the game. This person posted at a time when there was no easily available information about the later quests.
No, its not the best item out there. It does help faction however if needed. My idea, once I get it, is to give to one of the kiddies that got Everquest for Xmas. It is the time of giving ya know.

It may suck to a twink but as a real character who doesnt have days to spend on EQ this was a really good reward for items which I picked up raising faction. +2 int and wis are real nice...can't wait for the next part of this quest..

As far as other shoulder int items go, I only know of two. Not saying there isn't more, but to my knowledge, there's one that comes from the Hole and another that comes from Trakanon's Teeth which is no drop. Not a bad item at all for pure casters who are sick of an embroidered black cape and can't get ahold of the other int shoulder pieces.
there is also the mantle of mirth from Temple of Droga. has int 2 and 10 mana. not to hard to get at level 50 or so. but yeah this item is not in the sucky list. and since its just part of a quest for a better item... who knows may have 6 or 7 parts to this quest and end up with a ac 6 wis 6 int 6 save cold 6 shawl.
Obviously you haven't been paying much attention to the other quests... like the Ring quest.
At first, it's not so good... But after the fourth or fifth time, it's great.
I imagine that after five quests this is a 5ac, +5 wis, +5 int +5 sv. vs. Cold item. With the Ring quest, it's up to 7 now. Very awesome shoulder item if this one does the same.
