The Problem
# Aug 31 2001 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
It is a great back, but with my monk I would prefer Wu's Fighting Cloak because this weighs a lot for a monk. so for all you monks, skip this and just tailor or buy the Wu's cloak for 40pp or something.
Gnolls are safe
# May 14 2001 at 3:43 PM Rating: Default
They are safe untill you begining to kill them for no reason..

Also I found this quest is good for Giant/Coldain faction build up cause wolves in Great Divide also drops furs. Build faction and gather fur at same time.. not a bad idea. Oh also those stones are random pops on EW, I tried all those loc's but no avail... oh well keep looking )

Gotta call my guildies because Im a bard :P
Fixing Faction
# Aug 19 2002 at 6:21 AM Rating: Default
If you ***** up your faction with the Snow Gnolls, just go kill a crapload of Ulthorks in EW and you can bring the faction back up. This will raise Othmir faction at the same time as well.

You will lose Ulthork faction, but as far as I can tell it is worthless anyways.
RE: Fixing Faction
# Feb 13 2003 at 3:16 AM Rating: Decent
I agree, I think ulthork faction is worthless, but if for any reason you want to raise it, you can do so by killing othmirs in Cobalt Scar. Keep in mind though, I killed many othmirs, enough to get from indiff to max kos, and ulthorks are still scowling at me.

No it's not like all the other items this guy gives out, the races are accurate in the picture as of 4/24/2001 (all races/war pal rng shd mnk rog.) Also on multi questing I'd be careful with these as the gnoll guy doesn't give any response when you hand him the items, you just get a da-ding sound when you finish handing stuff in and a short message and no experience, oh and the cloak. It does weigh 2.5 and it is no drop as are the cutting stones even though you pick them up off the ground (I was able to pick them up in eastern wastes by clicking on the red dots on the ground and it didn't break invis.) I haven't tried multi-questing this one but I did get a cloak with my bard only to find out he couldn't wear it while my rogue loves the one I got the time I took that character to Velious.

you will find them in Eastwasteland

RE: Where are Skinning Stones?
# Feb 08 2001 at 7:53 PM Rating: Decent
they spawn randomly in an area around -6000/1500
there is a lot of high lvl mob there.... use invis... or you may only find death at this loc....don't go there at night, you will see nothing

Invis is a must around this area. I have gotten raped twice by a Manticore. At level 46, this mean 1 yellow bub of exp loss. No joke =)

Ok i dont know how much of this info was given below but i completed the quest yesterday and want to help you all out a little. Ok the dire wolf fur you can find off any dire wolf which are found in for sure Iceland Ocean (island with tower of Frozen Shadows), Eastern Waste (everywhere) and great Divide also. The pelts are just like any other a comon drop. Some are magic and no drop though. You need ONE medium quality pelt. After that you need to get the stones which can be found in Eastern Waste. this is harder than gettin the pelt because they spawn on the ground usually in highly mob populated areas. I being a rogue first got a camo so i could be invis and move fast but camo is unreliable and u have to go far in EW. Once it breaks mobs are everywhere so your chances of aggroing a Rhino, Snow Derv, Dire Wolf, snow Cougar, Frost Giant, Snow Griffon, or Kodiak (alot different and meaner), they all roam these lands are very dangerous. I've been told these stones spawn in various areas. Some that I know of are (-5342,-1504),(-6459,1081),(-7254,1830). I've confirmed these two (-7413,1709), (-6911,1814), these are roughly where I got mine. I say roughly because I've found that these loc's are not consistent. They seem to appear in this general area. These were the loc's I was told but when I got to the exact location nothing, so being the military genius I am i started a circluar sweep from this point and on my two confirmed I found the red colored stone on the ground close to the given loc's. Also one was real close to the loc I was given but I did not see it the first time. I think is a triggered spawn when u get near it or maybe I just had good timing. But the second time I went to the loc and stood there for 5 to 10 min and the mob traffic got real heavy..(thank god for Rogue Hide and Sneak). Then I saw a stone appear about 20 feet away. As a rogue i just gave up on the camo and used hide sneak. It took longer but i didnt get attacked once. I just waited til the mob traffic calmed down then i looted which broke my hide and then I hid again. these are No Drop so becareful if in a group cause so is the Cloak. Ok i took these to the shaman in the hut by the Tower of Frozen Shadows in Iceclad Ocean. Becareful I got attacked by a dire wolf once over there by huts and anyone who has been to Iceland nows. Not one NPC will help u...lol and the one zone has to giants guarding it..lol. Ok anyway...he did not talk to me at all...dont know if he even speaks or if someone else tells you want to give him but i took a chance and gave him 2 stones and 1 pelt. It said something like Ergrez took the item and sewed together clothing something like that. Thats it and I thought I was robbed cause there wasnt any xp, faction or item on my cursor but when i looked in my inventory there it was. So make sure u have a free slot. and Wa La thats it. Hoped I helped at least one person thanks.

Clerics?
# Jan 05 2001 at 3:06 AM Rating: Decent
Okay, I have a problem here...

Does anyone know if Clerics can wear this? They can wear all the other pieces, so why not this one?

I know I can get the stuff again if I need to, but I'd like to know if I should just give the stuff I have to a young Warrior or turn it in myself. I could sure use the extra Str, being a High Elf.
RE: Clerics?
# Jan 07 2001 at 6:04 PM Rating: Default
You can't give the skinning rocks away they are No Drop, Doh.
RE: Clerics?
# Jan 23 2001 at 11:05 PM Rating: Decent
Well lad, I can certainly turn in the skinning rocks, then let the warrior turn in the pelt... can't I? I would think this quest is multi-questable... most EQ quests are, after all.
I can find the guy you turn the stuff into
# Jan 04 2001 at 10:59 PM Rating: Default
Any Idea where Ergrez is?
No problem
# Jan 05 2001 at 3:08 AM Rating: Decent
As I mentioned in another section, he's in the middle of the gnoll camp... in a tent with his apprentice.

The camp is just SouthEast of the Tower of Frozen Shadow, approximately at 1000, 2100.

He does, however, wander off at times. I went there today and he was missing. Came back after about 10 minutes of waiting. I'm guessing he was chasing someone he didn't like. If you find Errgriz and the other named gnolls, you're in the right place.

And yes, the cloak can be MQ'd.

You should try it sometime. Bit more effective then gettin your cries lost here.
Not bards
# Dec 25 2000 at 3:42 AM Rating: Default
Bards can't wear it either. Nor druids and shamans I believe.
Weight is 2.5 not 0.0
# Dec 24 2000 at 12:47 AM Rating: Default
I just thought this item would be excellent for my monk, but it turns out it's not 0.0 weight. 2.5. :(
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 28 2000 at 9:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yet another mistake: BARDS CANNOT WEAR THIS, NOR CAN MANY OTHER CLASSES ABOVE! Please get your information correct!

how about dwarves?
# Jan 18 2001 at 9:21 PM Rating: Default
can this be worn by dwarves? i know the cougarskin mask can, i would think that this would as well....since they are made by the same NPC.
RE: how about dwarves?
# Jan 23 2001 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
I am also hoping it can be worn by clerics... for the same reason.
