Oki, I have thought a little.

And, having thought, I'm gonna tell ya something that you're just not gonna like.

I have seen this item auctioned at 750PP tonight on the Torvonnilous server. (And if it was auctioned at 750, you know there's a good chance it'll end up going for 700.

This is a little more than I could afford to spring for at the moment, so, being as I was headed for Thurgadin, which has to be the tradeskills capital of Norrath, I asked for prices for the lesser versions of this. (Plat, Gold, etc...) I was offered a Velium Sapphire necklace for 500PP, by an enchanter who had planted herself in the jewellers and was working on skill.

I must admit, this was a huge suprise to me. I had been expecting to pay a similar sum of coin for a far inferior item. (I was essentially hoping to get a +7 necklace. Maybe even +6)

I spoke to her for a while aferwards and the reason I was offered this spectacular deal, was because she was just making the stuff and selling back to the vendor! (What can I tell you? She musta had coin to burn!!!)

However, either way the stated price isn't too far away from the reality of the situation. It does seem odd, given the difficulty of making these articles and given the immense investment required to attain the skill to do so.

If you are selling these at 1200PP, congratulations, but I'd be very suprised if you can maintain that.

"Death is coming..."

-------------------------------------------------------
A few days later and I find SOME of what I said wasn't quite right. (I don't do the jewellerycraft skill,so what mighta been obvious otherwise, I was oblivious to.)

Firstly, my little jewellery crafting friend wasn't making Velium jewellery to train. This was an assumption made on my part. (What she said to me was, "I'll sell you one for (Can't remember four hundred and some odd), it's about what a vendor buys them from me at." So, from this I assumed she was doing what I did, when I was training blacksmithing. (Buy components >> Make stuff >> Sell stuff >> Buy components......) Not QUITE accurate. I'm now just a little wiser and know all Velium stuff trivials at over 250 and you train up on platinum jewellery.)

In the end, I came away with two of these. One I was given as a gift, for working as a mana pump, with Rapacious Subversion and the other I paid cost for. (You REALLY don't want me entering 200PP twice to account for those. Well, I guess that wouldn't be fair.) Personally, I feel I came away well ahead on that deal. According to the previous post, that means I got almost 2.5KPP of stuff for 400PP and some mana. Yay!

Another point to note, is that after getting her 250th point in jewellery craft, the enchantress yelled throughout Thurgadin that she would make jewellery at cost for about an hour. (This may not be an every day occurrence, but it's also not the first time I have come accross this sorta thing. (I know of at least one guy, who gives away a nice piece of equpment every time he hits a level. (Not gonna tell ya who, 'cos he'll never be able to move again, for the crowds at his feet! *Cackle*))) To be honest, I was shocked at how few people chose to take advantage of this offer. None the less, there are a few people who could be adding perfectly legitimate prices to jewellerycraft items that are completely genuine.

Anyhow, maybe now my previous post will make slightly more sense.

And if the enchantress reads this, CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'RE A STAR.

AlAaraaf.

ok, also not a jewler, but a magic user, and one of the major item dealers on Povar. As all of the above I can tell ya that I would pay 1200 for one of these babys and be damn glad of the oppertunity. 8 int on a neck slot is DAMN hard to beat until way late in the game. Also, if you get items in special circumstances, such as someone feeling generous or going mentally insane, please don't post the prices. The posted prices deal in generalities. personally, when pricing an item I NEVER look at the average. I always check the individual posts. So here's the deal cats and kittens, if someone sells you a 5k item for 1400, don't post that. You got lucky. It's not the average. When you PC something in a zone with about 100 people and ya get like 6 of em to shout around the same price, THAT'S the average. Not the insane ammount you managed to fleece out of someone, and not the two for one because you did something nice ultra-bargian that you got.

And people wonder why prices deperciate. This is worth 1200. if not that I'd sure as hell be willing to pay a k to the jewler who went through all the effort to make one. Support your local jewlers folx, money's not easy to get, but they work their asses off. Ask em for a price on the item you want and then just smile, nod, and cough up the cash.

Faelawen. Mage. Insane. you know the rest.

I have to disagree with part of your assessment of what prices should be posted here.

I do however, agree with some of what you said. To wit, nobody should post a gift as a purchase, or something given in exchange for some favor. for example, my cleric often gets items, rather than cash for rezzes.

However, this is not the place to post what you "feel" or think the average is, or should be. If you ACTALLY BOUGHT or SOLD an item, post the amount you charged/paid. Sure, some people are getting good deals, but others are gonna overpay. I was once suckered into paying 55pp for a velium morningstar, early in my playing career, then found the going rate was 20ish.

Even if you felt you got a GREAT deal on the itme, go ahead and post the price. If it was not a friend or guildmate, and the transaction was a straight up purchase, then the price should be recorded. That will help reflect that at least some sellers/buyers are paying those prices.

I once bought a spider fur cloak for 500pp, and the average, as I perceived it, was 1.5-2kpp. I posted the price of 500pp. of course, I then sold it for 1.5k, and posted that price as well. This was in the days that Alla would allow multiple prices.

This price board is meant to show what is actually being sold, not someone's opinion about what "ought to be".

Malaclypse how exactly did you become 'one of the major item dealers on povar' anyway? Your violating the first rule of money making, buy low and sell high. Anytime Im selling anything on Pover I'll be sure to send you a tell, cause you know how to make other people rich!

Any SK should give up the neck ac for this... We need str to do more damage, and we need int for more mana to lifetap our health back! Just make up for ac in other areas.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 19 2001 at 6:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What is it with so many of the crafted items for strength also having an inteligence bonus. A tank don need inteligence to bash things to ity bits, a tank needs str, sta, dex, and agi, nada else. Maybe the hybrids can benifit a little from the inteligence bonus, but even they would do better with bonuses that melp mele skills. Just my opinyon of course, but I like to bash with my tank, not read books. Does anyone else agree with this??

If anyone is unclear what this post is answering, turn off your filter. the post I am addressing is filtered out, unless you turn the filter to "off".

Another way to look at it is: Why do so many of the Intelligence items for casters also have strength?

Looking at it this way, it makes perfect sense. This has no ac, which means a melee is sacrificing to wear this. However, most caster neck items have low ac anyway, so a no AC high int item is very nice. The strength makes it even better, as most int casters start with low strength.

Now I'm not saying a melee shouldn't wear this. If you have adequate ac elsewhere, and really want some more strength, then by all means do so. However, the reason it "also" has intelligence, is because it is primarily an Int caster item, that just happens to also be nice for some melees.

BTW, check out the imbued/enchanted armors. There are some that have a little less strength, but a lot more ac, as well as other stats. For my melee class characters, I prefer those to the jewelry craft items. Of course this depends on your race/class/diety. Some suck for certain classes. For human melees, the Rallos zek armor is very nice. lots of strength, and good ac. Particularly for those non-visible pieces, where there is no quest armor. The Mith marr is awesome for pallies, and the ero marr is pretty nice armor for clerics.

The dwarven cultural is probably the best, so if you have a dwarf, definitely check it out before you decide on this for a melee class.

Also something to note, my Wiz would like this item since he wears 2 of the diety rings that give 8 Int and 45 mana but take away 8 Str... this item not only adds to my Int mana pool but also helps balance out that neg Str so that I am not walking around with a Str of 44, ugh.

So far, I've seen numerous posts on why this is a great neck item for SKs, and I agree. This is an excellent item for Shadowknights, but also for any intelligence caster. The highest base strength of any caster is 75 (Human), the rest are around 60. This is good enough to carry most of their armor, a couple backpacks, and food/drink. With the extra 8 Str, an int. caster can carry more in the way of loot. Even coins get heavy after you get 200+ of them.

I luvs this item. Shadowknights need str and int. If you are a shadowknight that only relies on tanking then you are missing the boat. Also, if you are the tank in the group, bank this item for when you are working on skills.

Let's think about this for just a second
# Mar 24 2001 at 8:06 PM Rating: Default
You're pondering over why this str item also has int? Why? Why are you even looking at this item? You are a pally, and this item has absolutely no AC, the bonus to your attack is a much poorer choice than taking an item with AC. This item is for little weak casters who need int and str. :)

8int and 8str=great for DE SKs) we need ac but str and int dont hurt either)

As a wizard I need all the inteligence I can get, plus the strenght is good too as we have none and it will help us to carry and loot we might find. I always seem to be emcumbred.
RE: Why inteligence??

Well, 1) inteligence does help with increase of skill faster, so not a complete waste. B) I believe the reasoning behind this is, and believe it or not the world does not revolve around the tanks of Norrath, that this can be a great item for Melee AND casters. Thats just my 2 cents :)
