Dont Forget that there are those casters that get HP to Mana spells (such as Shamen and Necros)that greatly benefit from high HP and high Mana. IMO this is a very beneficial item
#REDACTED, Posted: May 27 2002 at 7:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hi I am interested in buying the Black sapphire Necklace, But I don't know how to bye anything from this site. :( I do beleave I have the premium package, So I should be able to bye direct from the web site, I have more then enough pp on the game to bye this item. Could you please tell me what I need to to to get this item in to my box? Any any other items that I may be wanting to bye in the future. Thanks
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 14 2002 at 4:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) God I am sorry but I have never seen such an ignorant post, you can't possibly have enough pp to buy this and think you can just go to a web site...I smell ebay.

You can't buy items from this site. This site is for informational purposes only. You can look and see if anyone has one to sell on your server and then look them up in game.
This item's worth.

With the soft cap on Int and Wis being increased, these items aren't being sought for their Mana bonuses anymore, meanning that the caster market, which is what we normally selled BS stuff to is looking for more Int and Wis instead of raw mana.

However, these items still have two very important markets: A) twinks, let's face it, a lot of jewelry goes on twinks, simply because it's easy to obtain.
B) hybrids. These are incredible items for the "tougher" hybrids, especially Paladins and SKs who have to maintain a careful balance of AC and HP while still having some Mana. I personally run an SK as an Alt, loaded with Black Sapphire items, and the guy hardly ever runs out of HP or Mana.

I've found the best way to sell anything, especially jewelry, is to give customers options. When I get a caster comming to me, wanting the Velium Sapphire Necklace, I'll usually check his level, and if he's over 40, I'll offer a Black Sapphire Necklace instead, since it's about time he started picking up extra HP.

Oh yeah, and to the warrior who was asking what the big deal was over 65 HPs, well, the big deal is that these items aren't necessarily meant for warriors. They're meant for casters and to a lesser degree, hybrids. Casters find it almost impossible to get good items with HP AND Mana on them (and if you look at the earrings, those have some AC on them as well), so these items fit the bill.

And about the selling price of jewelry, if you aren't a jeweler, please, don't worry about it. Sure, you can go ahead and check the cost of buying a bar of Velium and the average market price of a Black Sapphire, but that isn't going to give you the price of the item. Jewelcraft is a very long and very costly tradeskill. It is probably the MOST EXPENSIVE tradeskill to raise (Blacksmith can be raised to 200 with about 500pp, and Tailoring is simply tedious because of all the stuff you have to find). A Jeweler will likely have spent 10-30K plat on raising his skill to 250 (because unlike Blacksmiths who get to sell Banded and Fine Steel, and Tailors who have the small backpack and Wu's markets, Jewelers don't have any items that trivial under 250 that sell worth a damn). So give us a break, most of us are very fair.

Just as a bit of a comeback to the "Tailoring is simply tedious because of all the stuff you have to find" quote

The problem with tailoring is that there is no gradual progression you go from 158 trivial with wu's to 250+ with velium(you cant consider luclin drops numerous enough to work on skill). So from 158 you fail over 90% of the time so theres nothing to sell. While the gems are expensive to buy you will have a much higher success rate than a tailor ever will so you will at least have something to sell back to a merchant. Coldain Tempers needed for velium studs/bonings cost around 550pp a stack and silver/gold/plat thread is not cheap.

I'm working on smithing/tailoring/brewing/baking with my druid and jewelcrafting with my chanter. For cost Id rate smithing lowest then jewelcrafting and tailoring pretty close although tailoring maybe slightly more due to failure rate from 158-200.

For difficulty/time to advance jewelcrafting easiest followed closely by smithing(more tools/wasted combines to make metal bits etc) and then tailoring way ahead hunting in multiple zones for pelts/tanning oil and hides takes forever you also need to be a reasonable level brewer and blacksmith. Personally I have over 120 in both to cut down on failures with bonings/oils.

There is no way to raise your skill in Blacksmithing to 200 with only 500pp (that's if you just re-sell to vendors). Banded maxes out at 175... and will probably take about 500-800 to get to that point from 175 to 200 would take probably another 1.5k or so or even more... Fine plate is expensive to make... especially since no one hardly wants to buy it off you anymore to offset the costs...

I have personally worked my jewelcraft to 214 and it has cost me over 30k at 212int and 151wis and i STILL would fail if i tried to make one of these items. So shut your trap about the price of these items cause jewelcraft is a money pit from hell. If you cant make it yourself then pay the price the chanters charge to make them and quit whining Rethan Shadowbane!

pricing
# May 20 2001 at 12:46 PM Rating: Default
I'm a lvl 20 enchanter on Xev, and for those that bawk at the prices of these things, it isn't simply the cost of the jem plus the cost of the metal that goes into any jewlcrafted item--it costs a GREAT deal of plat and time to build this skill. This should be factored into the cost of the final item(s).

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 28 2001 at 10:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This isn't worth that much, The black sapphire is maybe 1k and the velium bar is 300pp. anyone selling it for over 2k is a nut.

HPs ? ?
# Feb 17 2001 at 7:09 PM Rating: Default
Am I missing something? I fight mobs that hit for 75-120hps each hit. So why is everybody drooling over a lowsy 65 hps? This wouldn't allow me to get hit even one more time, LOL. Maybe I don't understand. I thought AC is far superior to a few measely HPs?
RE: HPs ? ?
# Sep 16 2002 at 6:52 AM Rating: Default
Yeah, and aegolism gives just a few measely hps too. Well, the reason is lets say you have 5 +65 hp items...thats 5 extra hits you can take. It adds up.
MANA
# Mar 22 2001 at 9:53 AM Rating: Default
Its for casters, once you hit 200 wis/int you need mana items to have it go up worth anything.
