posting this as no one has said a thing about this items in 10+ years (lol).

One dropped for me tonight in Dragon Necropolis. I killed about 15 entropy serpents as I was hunting around. I imagine it would have taken me 150 kills or more if I had been trying to get the drop (I was just scouting out looking for named rats).

Depending on how you use this item, it could be some scary fun. I miss the ancient UI pic as shown here (been years since my EQ looked like that), but it remains accurate as to the items stats.

entropy serpents live in the water puddles amongst the Chetari (rat men). Usually you get 2-3 on a pull and they aggro from pretty far off. Careful hunting if you are lower level.

Aggro...
# Jan 27 2003 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
This weapon is both good and bad;
The proc is excellent for grabbing aggro from any mob even if it is resisted, but the preoblem with it is that if you step or let the mob get out of melee range it WILL run, and depending on where you are at WILL bring back friends when it wears off. If ya have a snarer on duty=no problem. Also once this proc goes off, the weilder only has to crowd the mob to maintain aggro (as the tank).

Effects and correction

The effect does blind the opponent, if you back away, the monster just wonders off blindly, It will attack if you are still in melee range. This item also is used as a waist item.
Awesome for PVP

My lvl 15 HE Bard is currently duel wielding this with a wavecrasher. This weapon is awesome for PVP. A proc from either the wavecrasher or WESS means a quick easy kill.

I am dual wielding With this weapon and also
the Club of the Ice Ocean and i am very happy !

I am a warrior so for the aggro it's a very good
aggro and besides i bought it for 1000 pp, got an
awesomly cheap price today (guy wanted to make
1 kpp fast for a 40 k item :p )

Yeah it blinds the target but if you are a warrior
and stick well to the monster, you will get all
the aggro very easily !

I just got this weapon tonight and gave it to my 48 Ranger to test out. Put it in primary with LSoEE in secondary. The WESS proced frequently but the reaction of the mob was inconsistant. Most of the time when BPIII landed the mob just kept atacking. If I had taunt and moved away after BPIII landed the mob just moved on to the next guy. If I didn't have taunt it just kept hitting the group.

Once I taunted a mob off the chanter and BPIII landed and I switched back to the original mob and the one with BP ran for the hills. This was the reaction I was expecting from all mobs.

Anyhoo, I am having trouble seeing the pattern. Or should I say I don't like the pattern I am seeing. Seems that them mob will just keep atacking in a group situation. The mob will run off if BPIII lands and everyone backs off.

Seems kinda weak.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to use this weapon effectivly?

It's pretty simple. A blind mob with people in melee range stands there and fights, albiet at a lowered capacity. A blind mob with noone in melee range runs off in a random direction as if feared.

Not entirely true...if the mob is aggroed on YOU and you hit it with blind AND move outside of its melee range, it will run or wander off.

Got this with my 57 Bard as a bobby prize of sorts. Gave it to my Twink rogue just to keep his 1HS up (Yes I off-hand 1HS). Who knew the benefits. Backstab Heaven a lot of the time. try to partner with a ranger when possible. Snared mob + proc = lots of free Backstabs.
Now to find some sort of Snaring proc for prime in a Piercing weapon for rogue. Weapon also works great on bard with anklesmasher in prime, no songs needed. Nice to be able to chat and fight for once.

Blinding Poison III ???
# Sep 12 2002 at 10:16 AM Rating: Decent
Blinding Poison III suggest a DoT, why is there no info for any DoT dmg? Yes, I read the effect and it's just not explaining it to me I guess. What is "Adding 4 Poison counters" ? Is that a 4hps a Tick DoT? The lower ac and blind is nice thou. Just looking for alittle clarifaction on the proc...even with out the proc it's still a nice weapon if for nothing more then the ac on it.

Anyone ever playing a rogue you would know right off what the I II III represents.I know you havent so I wanted to explain. A rogue when doing Poison skill performs Tiers or Levels of the poison if you will. The higher the Tier the greater level of the effect. This could be duration or damage depending on what poison. Blinding poison is a effect of a rogue applied poison. As a rogue advances in levels he/she is able to make more powerful Tier poison hence the I II III marks behind the effects on the poisons. This Item (serpent spine) gives the effect of a rogue Poison. As it is per rogues the effect duration or damamge is determined by the level. So no damage on the effect but the higher level you are the longer the effect lasts. This weapon shines in a duel or on a pvp server.Rogues or Bards (both usualy have high dexterity) benifit greatly with this weapon. Hard to fight when your screen is black. The graphic is that of a whip.It procs fairly often with a Dex Over 120. I have noticed it also seems to be resisted alot though on the first proc, however the second proc rarely fails to land. I hope this helps. PS I keep this on my SK on a PVP server. The reasons I think are obvious, when a fight starts I equipt and wait on the blind (procs alot remember) then I quickly switch to my 2Hs to finish playing with my target. I usually get some nasty /tells demanding to know what was that or How did do that etc etc...No I dont tell them...what would be the fun in that ??? /laugh .....Hope this helps to explain the effect what it does how it works why the III is behind it....

WESS for taunting
# Aug 04 2002 at 7:16 PM Rating: Decent
I bought a WESS a few days ago and gave it its real first trial in Kael along with a Frostbringer. Hadn't realised that the blindness is also a fear and a giant disappeared for 2 minutes. We expected to be swamped but surprisingly only the 1 giant returned. Not surprisingly, I stopped using it. Without another weapon available a guildmember let me borrow his Venom Axe.

The Frosty and WESS was taunt crazy. As a warrior they worked perfectly for me. Unfortunately I can not say the same for the Axe. I plan to keep the WESS as with some major mobs that are not totally poison resistant (very few are) it will have major benefits. How many warriors do YOU know that can fear kite? Well worth the money!

I picked this up a while back and I like it. It is 2 more ac (+ the agi, which comes to 5 ac more at my current level) than the Defiance, 5 svMG (Like ac you can never have enough svMG) and better off hand damage. Inside I go with this in main(unless it's a crowed area) and a Veno axe in off hand. If you don't have a snare or have someone with you that can snare then this can be a dangerous weapon. Mobs will run when it blinds them. Of course if you have them snared this just means that you get alot a attacks at the mobs rear as it crawls away. If you don't have them snared expect company.

This weapon procs at lvl 1, the venom doesn't...

This is a very good weapon, wearable as a decent belt, and useable as a great weapon.

You are foolish to think "Blinding Poison" is not a good spell proc.

Seen them sold in the 13k'ish area, and they are worth it.

how can u think a venom axe is better than 1 of these!!! this atlas has a proc that saves ur **** ! Venom axe gives u aggro and when ur low on life u might die and it has bad delay and stats! Frostbringer and this sword weilding would be an awesome combo! well Just to let u know not to chose a venom axe over 1 of these !

blind affecting running
# Apr 23 2002 at 3:40 AM Rating: Default
I think that the mob running off when blinded is kinda like when you are charmed. You stand still and do the mob's bidding if you were standing still but if you were moving when spell landed you will continue to move in the same direction until spell wears off. I have seen this happen when a blind landed on a running mob and it just kept on running till spell wore off. Sorta like stuns also, if you get stunned while turning at all you will continue turning till you come to but if you were just running straight or standing still there is no visible clue that you are stunned other than you not attacking and the little words saying you is stunned and loss of movement if running.

Usefullness
# Feb 20 2002 at 1:23 AM Rating: Excellent
When people think of this weapon they only see it's usefulness in a duel, but that is were most people are mistaken. When used correctly this item has multiple useful applications.

The draw backs are obvious, but can be avoided with smart use. Like when a mob runs from your position and comes back a minute later with the whole dungeon behind it. Just remember blind is not like fear, which makes it MUCH better for a weapon proc. Because of this a mob will NOT run away from combat if engaged in melee.

I'll start by stating the most obvious:

#1- Dueling: The weapon is greatly purchased for this purpose alone. with the AC, saves and it's most important feature a 17 tick blind, this weapon can greatly sway the tide of a battle. Not to mention it procs at LEVEL ONE.

#2- Soloing: If you've landed a blind on your opponent in a wide open area they will run if you walk away from them. First of all this is great if you've accidentally pulled too many mobs. This way you can deal with only one. Secondly this is useful for a retreat, just like a fear spell.

#3- Hate: When grouped and taking a pummeling this whip is a great asset. When a mob is blinded it will NOT run away if still being attacked by the person with the most hate. If you've taken a bit too much damage and need to step out of the battle for a bit, you can do so if you've landed the blind on your target. The mob will stay in place if attacked by others party members, and not go after you. A perfect strategy for rogues/bards/rangers.

*NOTE* Do NOT walk away from the target if you are the highest on the hate list. It WILL run away.

#4- Casters/Healers: Very much like the strategy above, when a mob is blinded it cannot attack anything else except the people attacking it. A wonderful thing when grouped with casters and clerics who get a lot of agro from nukes and heals. If the casters are out of melee range, they simply will not be attacked. This is the weapons most valuable asset.

*NOTE* The mob can still cast spells on anyone it pleases. But this is always better than taking a huge beating.

Overall this is a great tool, but I only recommend advanced use after MUCH practice, or your liable to get a lot of people dead. Use common sense, I cannot stress this enough. I'll post more as I discover more.

*NOTE* Some mobs, even though have blind casted on them can still funcion normally.

Proc at Level One
# Jan 07 2002 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
I purchased this for my warrior and while I was transfering it from my level one or two mule(cant remember)I had her play with it some and it proc's Blind quite often at that low level.

So it seems to be a nice twink wep, in the current warrior 26 level is procs often and is resisted about 70% of the time. I think it is a nice wep though I do get tired of whip cracks.

Anyone know if this proc is usesless at upper levels? Will it just turn into a fair 11/23 1hs soon?

Not that Great!!!
# Dec 19 2001 at 7:18 PM Rating: Decent
This item is Nice, but not that great!! Blind III isn't that great of a proc. Blinding a mob doesn't do that much.. Great for PVP, but against mobs there are much better. Frostbringer for one or venomous in my opinion. A 85DD that procs at lvl 1. Much better then this and Has AC 10 on it.. Definately not worth more then 12k on Brell..

I have this whip and I can tell from experience that once in a while a mob will run away when blinded by the proc; not necessarily at low health. This fact makes this weapon extremely dangerous to use in places where other mobs easily may aggro. I have seen a warlord use it on Tpos in VL after which the doggie ran off and soon trained us with the castle mobs.
