ok guys to clear things up...pets will NOT take ANY weapons with a delay higher than 50 that is why weighted axes can't be equipped because the delay is 150 anything with a delay of 50 or less can be equipped by pets, maybe some no-drop weapons can't be equipped but i'm not totally sure....and yes i have tested it, rusty scythes can't be equipped because their delay is about 51 i think....not too sure but bronze and normal scythes can be equiped and they have a delay lower than 50.
RE: delay cap

That's because the wieghted axe can only be used by large races - pets are medium or smaller.
Err...

You can give a pet a rusty halberd (10/51) =)
weighted axe

Um, has anyone on the waited axe discussion remembered waited axes can only be used by limited (large folk) races

I play a level 57 Necro on the 7th Hammer. It is so hard to keep up with the damn patches that one can never tell from one week to the next how we got nerfed, or more importantly - our pets.

This being said, I too thought the pets could not equip no drop items anymore too, til last night. We were in the Tower of Frozen Shadow and since the NEW patch where our pets dont need weaps to duel-wield/attack I haven't been using weaps. We killed a Shadowed Torch and it dropped a NO DROP, LORE, NO RENT item that had +HP and the effect of Steal Strength on them.

Not only could the pet equip and use one, but it also equipped a second and proceeded to bust out a can'o'whoopass on things there on the 8th level. I honestly think that each item is coded individually on wether or not a pet can use. Hard to tell with Verant anymore.

Thing is, how could your pet equip two of them if they're Lore? Just asking.

NPC's aren't affected by the 'Lore' code as we are, try it yourself.

i found the same thing to be true, it seems the items flagged "giant" cant be used by pets anymore atleast the 44 and up one, i havent tried it on a lower lv pet but this items cant be used by pets ;(
i think any item that would have a ridiculous ratio like this or a weighted axe is made unequipable since the ratio would be 66/30 :)
but those torches kick ***...shame they are no rent :(

This weapon is most likely for a quest. Though you would have to do it before you logged out as it would disapear kinda like stuff on Shadow Men do.
Not necessarily true...
# Dec 18 2000 at 2:17 AM Rating: Decent
There is at least one "no drop" item that can be turned into someone for a "marker" of sorts...
The shadowed scythe for the Harvester quest can be turned in to Vurgo in the Temple of Ro for a note that says something like: "Reminder - shadowed scythe" Since I don't know anything about this quest, it may or may not be possible. But for an item as difficult to get as this, it wouldn't be entirely improbable. Anyone know anything more? (Yeah I mean you Banz, you big cutie)

Another thing - You can also leave it on a corpse(from a duel so no EXP is lost) to keep it.

uh, you can give npc's no drop items. how do you think you complete no drop related quests like j-boots?
RE: Please don't breed.
# Dec 17 2000 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
once you get over the fact that when you give an NPC a no drop item it is destroyed not equipped. They did this to stop people from giving no drop items to NPCs then someone else killing them and getting the item. ie, no drop transfer. STFU now thnx~~

a weapon has no effect on how much dmg a pet does.
if it did then everyone who had a pet would be giving them the weighted axe
RE: Pet Usage
# Dec 17 2000 at 4:33 AM Rating: Default
Weapons *do* affect pet damage - if the weapon does more damage than the pet does with its bare hands. The best 34 mage pet hits for 34, btw.

However, pets won't use weighted axes - I tried.

Don't post if u don't know what you're talking about ;)
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 17 2000 at 4:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Lol...you guys are just too funny. I went through 3 posts and you guys didnt mention the obvious fact. How the hell do you give a pet a no drop weapon? Lame.

Ok,just to start this correctly,i play a 56 necro on the xegony server, and i would like to say that weapons have ZERO effect on pet damage/delay.while the person talking about weighted axes is right, pets WILL weild a pair of exe axes and if a 30 damage weapon doesn't make my pet hit harder then nothing will even though the 30 damage and approximate 61 damage per hit that my pet should do,he still hit for the normal 53,please don't post things about pets when you obviously play a monk
RE: Pet Usage
# Dec 17 2000 at 7:45 AM Rating: Default
Weapons DO affect weapon DAMAGE, why would my level 7 mage have his pet hitting for 20's with a rusty two handed sword if they didnt? And the ablity of Enchanter pets to duel weild, not sure if Enchater pets duel weild or not. Do to a few patches pet weapons do:
1. If one handed or percing when weiling two weapons, the ablity to duel weild. Then was changed in one of the last patches to auto duel weilding no matter what there using.
2. Do NOT affect the deley in any way. Pets are set at a deley of 30 no matter what there weilding. Haste buffs DO allow them to attack faster.
3. There is a fixed of damage stat (i.e. 25 damage NOT 30 with an exey axe) weapon that a pet can weild. Would it really make sense for a pet to have a 45/30 damage ratio with a weighted axe? HELL NO! It would greatly unbalace the game. Not sure what the damage limit is as I DO NOT play a pet class alot. I just do research before posting to know if im sticking my head a little farther up my *** or not.
RE: Pet Usage
# Dec 17 2000 at 10:01 AM Rating: Default
weapons only give th pet a better chance of hitting harder regardless of dam/del period
RE: Pet Usage
# Dec 17 2000 at 2:18 PM Rating: Default
This is an easy test. Make a level 1 necro. Buy the pet spell, give him a rusty halbred, and then let him go to town. He WILL hit a max for 20. Pets will do twice the damage listed on the weapon IF it is higher than thier normal attack. I to tried using a wieghted axe, and I am sure there is some cap out there to prevent that casue he wouldn't use it. Being a high level pet user and trying to prove or dis prove this is useless becasue it ONLY works on low level pets.

Pets can't wield no drop weapons anymore, its been that way for a couple weeks now because people were giving pets plane/kunark weapons and soloing stuff they never should have been able to. This argument is null.
RE: Pet Usage
# Dec 17 2000 at 5:34 PM Rating: Default
no drop change to pets was WAY before kunark was even a twinkle in verants eye, thnx
RE: Pet Usage

OK to summarize,
(1) After an earlier patch - giving a weapon to your pet stopped affecting the delay the pet would attack at. Augmented 49 necro pets dual wielding a pair of FS daggers were mighty nasty prior to the patch [mage pet's couldn't dual wield properly at that stage].

(2)Earlier posts about giving a level 1 pet a rusty halberd to let it hit for a max of 21 is absolutely true. This is not difficult to verify for anyone who has the time. It appears that if the weapon damage is higher than the pet max damage then the pet will hit with the weapons max damage.

(3) However, this becomes difficult to verify with high level pets .. simply because it is difficult to find affordable high damage weapons to give to the pets. If anyone who wants to give an exe axe to a pet that is summoned with the level 44 spell or lower .. then maybe we could verify this. Note: exe axe is 25/50 so a 49+ pet may quite easily hit harder than the exe axe naturally.

(4) You can give your pet a NO DROP weapon .. but the pet will not use it. Hunt in Kurn's tower and pick up those magical femur piercers .. they won't show up in the pets hands.

(5) The weighted axe is also known to not work with pets. It is believed that Verant saw this possible use and coded against it. How many other 28+ damage weapons are out there that you could afford to give to your 49+pet (weighted axe costs about 20-45pp - Gromlok's Basher [30/86 2hb] is the only thing that goes for less than 1k - it might also be coded for as well given its high delay)?

If there are any super-rich pet owners out there who want to give a mithril staff/exe axe to a 44 pet .. please post what you find .. I'd be interested in hearing the result.

Finally, after a major pile of crap, someone with a brain AND facts posted. Thanks Alieran. That post jives with everything I've learned in 56 lvls as a mage and 41 as a necro.

One thing to add. On (4), I think this was done to prevent transferring of nodrop items. If you have an enchanter and a zone line nearby you could at one time get things back from your pet. Like this: Hand Goner SSoY, duel chanter, chanter charms Goner, you zone and zone back. When chanters charm wears off, Goner is now a regular NPC (and scowls at everyone) since you zoned while he was charmed. Kill Goner and loot SSoY. Pets immediately destroy nodrop items so there'll be nothing to loot. Need to try this again to see if it still works.

from what i have been hearing the way verant set pets was that they dont take any weapon with a delay higher then their natural delay. so you would need to find something with less then 30 delay...?
now that i think of it, arent rusty halberds 10/56? but pets still take them. i bet theres a set delay (60ish?) where anything higher they wont take. kinda takes the fun out of seeing a necro pet with an exe axe :P
also, if you REALLY want a nasty pet, forget about 2 handers and give him two gnoll hide lariats or even better, ykeshas. i know the latter would be a bit (understatement) expensive but with the yak proc and the pet proc (provided its the pet that lifetaps) hes doing some nasty damage.
enough of my rambling, just thought i would throw my 2cp in.
