When I first got this weapon, I thought it was too slow to be of any real use. It's slow speed does not give me the type of taunt control I get with my Frostbringer/VAVB combination for sure. However it hits like a train. In long fights I get Taunt. The weapon hits typically for over 200 with high hits in the 350 range. Criticals have been hitting in the 300+ range often with My highest critical being @450. My highest Crip so far with it has been 627. This weapon really shines with the mighty and Riposte disc and high haste. With shissar I am doing so much damage that mobs I could not solo with any other means are easily soloable with the tusk. Not that I advise any Warriors out there to solo past thier 40's but the weapon can definitely be a viable alternative to my dual wield combo. I would take care using it as a secondary tank weapon on a raid as you might get taunt after whacking a real tough mob for a while.

Sample Crip Series:
You hit a Sarnak Avenger for 627
You hit a Sarnak Avenger for 512
You Hit a Sarnak Avenger for 601
You hit a Sarnak Avenger for 498
You hit a Sarnak Avenger for 298
You hit a Sarnak Avenger for 376
You hit a Sarnak Avenger for 444

This was a ten second burst where I did not get stunned (lucky as a barb) and was buffed to about 60% haste and 255 Str. 3356 points of damage in ten seconds is not bad. Of course wieght this with the fact that that can only be achieved once per hour. And remmeber Taunt Control is hampered by using such a weapon. If you get a lot of adds and are not hasted real well you may have trouble holding taunt on the adds right away which could = death to casters.

When this hits it will leave a mark. Its the misses that will make you cry though. And not just one miss, wait til you miss multiple times. You will be sitting with your thumb up your **** a long time. This is just eye candy. You will do better with a faster lighter hitter.

Agreed. Figure in a proc or two per minute, and Iceflame outdamages this while also being significantly faster and cheaper.

Iceflame is 2HP. Is this thing 1HP or 2HP? The profile above says either melee, but the comments below make it sound like 2HP. I love my iceflame, but if this is a 1HP then comparisons to iceflame don't work, because you can DW another weapon. And if it's 2HP someone needs to change the profile up above.

This is perhaps one of the best damaging weapons out there for a paladin.

The delay at 60 may be high, however as paladins with SoL now being out, any pally high enough to have this weapon can cast Valor of Marr on themselves (24 or 25 per cent haste), additionally if you have a haste item, you are set.

I have been grouping in Velks lately and typically hold agro on mobs without having to cast stun or hit my taunt key.

To give you an idea of the dmg potential on this puppy, I am averaging 200 per shot, with my high being in the 280s.

I wanted to really push my limits and see what this was capable of so one day I decided to try soloing some spiders in Velks. Buffed up, and engaged.

No problems, fight for a bit, root back off and heal and reengage. They go down fast from the dmg on this sucker.

It will be a long time before I trade in my Tusk for another weapon. (The only time I change out to another weapon is vs casting mobs so I get more attacks and can Bash with my shield to interrupt casting).

*** That was ten levels ago, but still a sweet weapon ***

realistic damage output on this...

Just thought I would share this... I have yet to get another crippling blow this high, but it shows just how hard the tusk can hit. Before anyone starts with the "a rogue can BS for 1k", please keep in mind that I am just an averagely equipped paladin, wasnt really heavily buffed (str around 120), and just decided to turn on my holyforge discipline while we were fighting down to the mines in chardok....

http://www.nexusofsouls.com/nos-home/images/tuskcrit.jpg

The other hits you see are more normal, maybe even a bit low. I usually hit closer to 200 each time now, with many above 200... sometimes up to 260 when my str is buffed sufficiently.

And the damage bonus is level dependent (I wasnt aware of that when I made my previous post). At level 56, the bonus is 36.

Damn I love this weapon... cant wait to train up in 2H bash once SoL is out.

sorry to spoil you fun with seeding doubt about this dammage , but if you notise he has scroled up the text page and could have been healed after the fight and then taken the screenshot !
then he could have been on 1%hp and then did the hit :)

a weighted axe has a damage of 45 and a damage bonus of 69 percent to me at level 54. Slow as hell, but i'm thinking it may end up being superior to the tantor tusk for the level 56 warrior riposte discipline. I may be wrong, and i like to hit hard even without using discs, so probably gonna try to pick up a tusk anyway just to test some theories. Nice weapon though, and fits well with roleplaying a bug dumb strong ogre warrior. Which i am;)

but weighted axe has 150 delay. if you can get agro in the first place with it to use the discipline then go ahead, and if im missing the point plz just clarify for next person who reads this. the ratio on the weighted axe isnt exactly dream material. oh well, i seriously would like to know how that goes to see how off my thinkin is, good luck to you my large friend.

Tantor's Tusk now has a Damage Bonus modifier of 25 after the patch on 10/8. I suspect this is pretty good, the next highest weapon I have heard about is IFS with a dmg mod of 15.

The Dmg bonus is effected by 2 things.
1. the delay of the weapon
2. the level of the user

The higher your level and delay, the higher the bonus. So the weapons with the highest dmg bonus would be Twisted Sword of the Fatesealer and Weighted Axe, as they both have a delay of 150 (both with bonus of 58 @ level 60).

Willing to bet money that the person who reported a dmg bonus of 25 is/was level 54 when they said that.

I know there were some changes made to 2hander damage tables for hybrids and am still not sure how they figure into the tried and true formulas. But dmg bonus *seems* to be the same as its always been.

Rouge BS's
# Aug 13 2001 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
Ok... there is no reason for Rogues to have this big honker slow weapon anyway. From what Ive heard from several lvl 60 rogues, max BS is at 800. And if you ever played with a high lvl rogue you will know that when they are hitting for 400-500 BS 2 times a round and each round of theres is right around 10dly... being able to hit for one big shot isnt very practical. And if you were to be able to slap an enemy up with your dream shot, any good warrior would be able to get the aggro back to him within 3 rounds or so. Like I said though, dam cap is from what I hear 800... so this weapon would be useless in the hands of a rogue. Thats probably why they didnt add them to the list.

Aye rouge backstab is capped, But no rouge in their right mind would use any 2h weapons anyhow, even if they could use it to backstab. Wouldnt it be funny though, to see a rouge try and backstab a mob with a elephants tusk? :)

if a rogue could use, I would see them as willing to swap weapons real fast for BS, then swap back for normal hits. wouuld be insane to have a 50 ATK piercer. (reach your cap earlier at least, ditch it in the future when you can reach cap with a 13 dmg.)

RE: heh

Accually, If ya think about it a little, what would do more dmg? Hitting something with a stick, slashing it with a knife, or stabbing it?

Most the time stabbing something is more sammageing than anything else.

To the guy who said "ive seen someone assassinate Trakanon", no offense but you are full of it =). Unless there is some sorta spellive never heard of that knocks the target down to level 48 I SERIOUSLY doubt he was assassinated. Yes it looks like a bard horn, Most ive seen a 60 warrior usin crip disc do with it is 634, and max haste has caps according to level, im not absolute on the levels/haste, so im not gonna try to post it. No rogues cant use, and with the current rogue weapons in the game (15 damage piercer for rogues being best) and current STR/Backstab cap the most a rogue can do with duelist disc on is around 1300ish. After seeing crits/crips this thing produces its clearly ment to be in the hands of a warrior, and dont bring up low taunt of bein a slow 2hander, this thing taunts fine.
RE: heh
# Feb 02 2002 at 2:53 AM Rating: Decent
Wouldn't you say this weapon would be better for the hybrids? For instance it does taunt less than two quick swords...which would make it good for a ranger. It also would do a lot of dmg...which is what paladin's and sk's often have problems with.
New Weight

Just got one of these a couple days ago and the weight listed is 9.8, not 6.8. makes a bit more difference on stamina sucking, but not enough to warrant not using this uber weap.
Question
# Jun 08 2001 at 10:38 PM Rating: Decent
Just a question!

Does your weapon skill effect how hard you hit all the way through 'till 60? or only in the upper levels?
Accually
# Aug 01 2001 at 2:30 PM Rating: Decent
There are a few things that contribute to how hard you hit, and your accuricy(SP). First off, offencive skill. This basikly makes it so you can hit well with no weapon skill, to an extent, at mid levels, or high levels on low ac mobs. I.E. if you have say 200 offence, and like 2 2hs with a 20 dmg weapon, you would still hit for 60 or so, couse offence is pretty high. As your 2hs would go up you would gradually do more dmg. Which Brings me to the 2nd thing, weapon skill for the appropreate weapon. The higher your skill, the higher your normal hit cap. 3rd thing is attk raiting. Say your killing mobs, and your not to happy wiht your how often your hitting, or how hard. You get an attack buff, like wolf form which has a +50 attack? increase. You then have a better chance of hitting harder, and more often landing a sucessful blow. Then there is stats that help in dmg and landing hits, STR dirrectly effects your attack raiting, and max dmg cap (also effects other stuff, but attack raiting is the onlything relevent to this post.) The higher your STR the higher your attack raiting, and max dmg cap. Also, there is DEX it somewhat effects how often you land hits. Usually though you cant really see a difference in how often you land hits unless you add 50 or more dex. Also, one last thing, I think, but dont compleatly remember, the lower the weapons dmg/delay ratio (meaning higher dmg, lower delay) the higher your attack raiting. So a 13/20 weapon would raise your attack raitng more than a 10/30 weapon would for the same weapon skill.

I realise this post is out of context in the perticular location, but its just to answer a question.

If you wanna flame me go ahead, but this is how it works to the best of my knowlage:

Offence skill = higher attack raiting
Weapon skill = higher attack raiting
Higher STR = higher attack raiting
Higher DEX = you land hits better

Higher attack raiting = you hit harder, and land hits more often.
RE: Question
# Jun 10 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Default
No, weapon skill determines your accuracy. If you'll notice that everytime your skill goes up your "ATK" rating will go up. That is the ultimate factor of accuracy. How hard you hit depends on your level and base damage. The higher in levels you are, the more the damage cap goes up. Wielding a Forged Velium Claidhmore with a damage/delay ratio of 30/35, I have managed to land a max hit of 167. Now imagine the max hit of the Tantor's tusk.
RE: Question
# Sep 17 2001 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
Thats strange since when at lvl 34 my warrior finnally decided to start piercing(no need to tell me that was dumb,i know, but its maxed skill now) i hit for anywhere betwwen 3 and 12 with a slime coated harpoon, yet now that skill is maxed i hit consistently between 25 and 35. so,i would say weapon skill GREATLY effects damage. Go ahead, try a weapon out you've got no skill in....
RE: Question
# Jul 02 2001 at 11:27 PM Rating: Decent
So then strength would also affect accuracy, since raising your str will raise your ATK rating?

Just got one of these the other night for my 50 pally on TM. This weapon rocks, but it makes me look like a bard (bleh). Wish VI would fix that gfx.

With a FBSS and AQ buff from a chanter, I can chew through stuff, making it hard for warriors to keep the mobs attention sometimes (especially if I am also stunning and nuking with my 125dd spell). With only 110 skill in piercing I can still hit consistently for 112-135 each hit.

Also, if you are thinkin about camping this named mammoth, you better be prepared with several goups of mid to high 50s... there are a few dragons that roam the area, any of which can kill an unprepared group quickly. Cargalia slaughtered our entire party twice in the span of one hour. AoE nuke for 1275dmg + quad hits for 250 + insane Grav Flux that drops you for another 650dmg... all before your cleric has had a chance to even think about casting a heal... OUCH.
