Thats because Lodizal spawns in Iceclad, not Cobalt Scar. The turn in guy, who makes the shell piece into the shield is in Cobalt Scar.

On Veeshan I see this shell sell for 9-6k. I traded one for a SBW. I know the SBW has more wisdom but this shield can go on your back, plus it has enduring breath. I use a plated sheild which has also good ac and wisdom for my paly.
I bought 1

I bought 1 today in bazaar for 11k. The shield was selling for 25k :)

Lodizal can still skip spawns i was at his camp for a full 11 hours right after he died and he never spawned and i had the exact time he was supposed to spawn too *curses*

as of a patch he does not skip now he is a on a 12 hour +/- an hour which means ANYWHERE from 11-13 hours he WILL spawn i have killed him 17 times in a row and he did not miss a spawn once hope this helps

# Dec 16 2002 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
I just got the shell piece from Lodi. He is on an 11 hour timer, or so I hear from the guildie who was camping him for the map piece. 11hours after he is killed, a 50 minute timer starts. He will pop during this time. A good full group of high 50s can probably take him. We had that plus a few more and never CHed the MT, just Celestial Healed. Make sure to have all but MT back off when he enrages or youll have ranger gate and rogue gate from his ripostes.

Does anyone know if you have to give 'Bungre Crawcrusher' 10k gp or can you give him 1kpp with the shell. It seems 10k gp may cause me to not be able to move lol. Thanks

Not an item for a PVP server in my opinion, but a wonderful
# Sep 27 2002 at 2:22 AM Rating: Decent
Aloha all and well met

Silly goose -- this is not a monk item :-) Even if it were monk wearable, the 5.0 weight would prove exceptionally heavy, even to the most weight careful monk for his remaining items.

About the great turtle. Lodi is NOT on a 7 day cycle as some people might think. Waiting for the evil Stormfeather to spawn (for another semi-related quest), I had several Lodi spawns. 240 tracking for rangers is a wonderful thing-- a properly ranger can easily cover both spawn sites, if someone is not camped directly on the spawn site for the specific mob.

As for killing the great turtle for this quest, well a solid well balanced group can easily defeat this mob. I have been told that a single topor shammy can defeat him, but I have not actually seen such a battle yet. Generally, a single MA, a couple damage dealers and a cleric/topor shammy, and an int caster or two to speed things along.

As for the item itself. There are many options available for an enduring breath item these days. EB is required in at least a couple zones (KK and the grey) and is useful in a number of other situations. few items in the game, however, offer EB on an item that has such lovely stats on a generally all purpose item.

This leads to a final point of discussion -- who "wins" the item on a hunt. Generally, at least on our server, Lodi is not a well respected camp, and the first group to arrive with the sufficient combat power to kill the mob, usually kills the mob, much to the chagrin of a younger person whom is waiting for the under equipped guildies to arrive to assist her/him to kill said mob.

So the division of loot is generally as follows: Camper of Lodi gets 1 item of choice off of the drop; map fragment is awarded by lotto to the melee who have not done the quest; spells are passed to useable classes; remaining items are generally lottoed by a /ran 200 500 top roller picking choice item, on down the list.

On a guild hunt, naturally guild leader or raid leader passes out the items by whatever methodolgy the guild uses: NBG; rank system; or lotted by (guildname) dragon kill points.

As all the items on this cash cow/turtle are in demand, it is good for any class to keep or sell said items accordingly by their class.

Hope this helps in your hunts of the great turtle and the allocation of "phat lewt"

Should any of these classes be given priority?
# May 28 2002 at 3:25 AM Rating: Decent
Should pure wis casters be given priority over non wis meelee's? ie, should a Cleric get first dibs over a warrior? On the one hand +10wis is great for back slot for non meelee wis casters(although you could easily go buy an Acrylia Studded Cloak; MUCH cheaper than what this shield would go for) but then again the 23ac +10str is insane for a meelee's back slot. Personally, I think all the classes listed should get an even roll, the stats are too broad and wide to give any one class priority.

OK, WHAT THE HECK AM I MISSING?

Why has the price on this thing dropped to like 20K and dropping in bazaar on Veeshan. Is there some really easy to get better back item in PoP that I don't know about? I was gonna buy one the other day for 25 K then I saw one at 20K then another one at 20K then another one (for some reason, none of them would sell for a penny less than 20K). WTF is going on?

Yes, DamuriAjashi there is some easy to get PoP back item, it's a Cloak of the Wise and the quest costs no money at all, even if you do buy it in bazaar it's only about 4k on Bristlebane

I would say this would make a good shaman item for not only does it give good wisdom, it also give a charsmia bonus which can effect our abilty to be able to slow mobs. This is the reason why shamans have a charsmia buff in the first place. There's nothing i hate more than getting resisted and wasting my mana. The ac would also be very helpful to a shaman because we attract aggro with are slows and our attack spells. The str would also be helpful for boosting our attack, being the ghetto tanks that we are and the need for us to hit the mob when we use our epic or other weapons like the rune etched or winterstorm. I would rather see a shaman get it and be able to successfully slow something in an epic situation than be resisted and have most everyone die. Wouldn't you agree? You would think 5 charsmia wouldn't make that much of a difference but it can.

Just my 2 cp

Where did you get the idea that charisma affects slow? It has no effect on slows at all. The reason shamans have it is because they can buff almost every other stat too, lol.

If I am playing my rogue and I miss out on a roll for this I would be quite upset, every class listed SHOULD get to roll. It is a hell of alot easyer for a wis caster to reach 200 or 250 wis but for a halfling rogue it is a bit harder to reach 200+ str and high ac, but this has both and on a back slot at that. The only think I would rather have for a back slot item for a non ultra uber rogue would be a CoF.
RE: Should any of these classes be given priority?
# Jul 25 2002 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
yes, i'm biased, but I'd give it to a cleric.
A) Clerics can't cast EB, shaman and druid can.
B) yes, 23ac and 10 str is great for melee, but you can get that without the wis in other items, its hard to find a back slot with 10 wis and this much ac (and other useful clerical/priestly stats like str (for heavy armor) and resists), so it's best to give it to a priest class anyway.
C) this shield on a cleric means the cleric lives longer, and when the cleric lives longer that means the rest of the group/raid/etc lives longer, and thats a very good thing. this on a warrior or other melee/hybrids, eh, they can get the same or better ac from other items. On other priests, they don't (or shouldn't be) generate anywhere near the agro that clerics create. to repeat, cleric lives longer = everyone else lives longer.

Nothing against clerics, great class for one so willing to dedicate their entire career sitting, standing, casting, ect, not as fun as nuking and such, (why i love my druid :) but anyhow, I hate, just utterly hate it when cleric say they should get the best loot, be it ac/str/wis/whatever because they can wear it. I personally feel whoever helped kill the darn turtle should get a roll on it if they can use it. One day, (not likely, in fact, no, it wont happen) they may make it where raid level situations can survive without clerics, ha, lol, listen to me now, im delusional :) oh well, im dont ranting about the who gets what BS, gluck to whoever kills the turtle, and pray your guild/group of friends consider everyone.

<Ahem.> There is a class that uses all- AC str and wis. It is called a Paladin (yes, that other class that everyone seems to forget). I like your logic about how the cleric lives longer and such... but the paladin can use all three of these stats (plus the saves). Paladin needs ac to live longer, str for attacking/weight, and wis for those backup-heals. AND paladin's do not get enduring breath, so thats always a big help =)

(btw, cant even think of another back slot item with as much ac/stats as this one, as you say)

just my 2cp..

Everyone can

Classes that can cast EB might also want to keep their mana for more useful spells.

As a RNG/ SHM I can EB, but IMHO that means I'll waste a spell slot for something I'll cast once every 17 minutes IIRC, and requires some reagent.

And before someone just tells me "only memorize it when it starts wearing of", they should go to KK or any underwater area without EB memmed and hope they'll get enough time to sit, med, mem and cast EB before they run out of air...

If the only reason someone claims the shell is because they can't cast EB, then get a Fishbone Earring or a Rebreather, YMMV.

Personally, I'd give this to my primary shaman first but there's a few reasons for that not related to the shield. It's a great item for all of the classes. Give it to the person for whom it's the biggest upgrade and who has contributed the most to you're guild/group over the course of time.

Subject to change with server affiliation. If you are on Rallos and you put this on your back, it can be looted if they kill you. No matter how high your resists are, a few decent PK's grouped can toast you, or you might zone low on hps and get burned down, etc. I can't say I've seen anyone on Rallos wear this except as a shield, although I don't go around inspecting everyone I meet either. I'd never put this in a place where it could be lost to a PK so easily.
