Worth keeping?
# Dec 02 2002 at 12:21 PM Rating: Default
Logged in to check and see what my Necro sold in the bazaar last night, and decided to check prices of other vendors. I was looking at focus effect items, and saw three of these particular items on sale. The thing that really caught my eye was the discrepancy of prices: one for 1200, one for 1500, and one for 200pp?!? Figuring the guy selling it for 200pp was on crack, I abandoned my selling post and ran up to him. As it happened, when I approached him and he was NOT afk. I began browsing his wares and he said "Vardeth, please buy some stuff." "Most assuredly, I will buy at least one item, friend" was my reply, to which he responded ":o)". Anyhow, I bought it expressly for the purpose of reselling at a huge gain (underselling the next lowest price by 100pp, selling it for 1100pp), but am considering keeping it for my level 14 bard. Any suggestions?

Just needed to be said again. This crown is far better than a Crown of the Froglok Kings. for one it has more AC,it gives +5 agi which doesnt really do much, it takes a LOT of agi to make ac like 8-10=1ac and also a LOT to help increase defensive skills faster but hey its nice to have, what monk really truly cares about dex? mines is 127 without trying to get it and its only useful for proccing weapons. it also takes a LOT of dex to help your skills. int monks dont need that unless they are practicing a trade skill. 30cha being an iksar that would greatly help me considering i dont even get 1pp for cracked staffs. oh and 0.0wt is a lot better than froggy crown. sure 20SvF/SvM is nice but by the time you need saves on raids im sure you can pick one up easily enough or have something better. they go for about 1k on my server Tribunal for what i have seen.

Great for Beastlord too. Who cares about INT when you are a WIS caster. And if you are an Ogre, like my BL is the 30 CHA is really useful.
Cheap

I bought this with my Monk for only 450pp in the new bazaar.
not a fair trade

If you're thinking about trading this for an FBSS, you might be confused about the effect. This has the effect Summoning Haste III, which does not increase the frequency that you hit. Instead, it reduces the casting time of Summon Pet spells by 30%, which is a useless effect for a bard.

For a bard, this makes a nice headpiece for your charisma set of armor but is worth far less than an FBSS.
damn

i was quite happy when i logged in one morning and my helm had mana pres3. my happyness ended when i logged in the next morning and it had this effect on it. i dont know many int casters that would wear this helm, if they would, theyd be really stupid, and not many wis casters would wear this to give up mana or wis for the head. its a nice ranger helm cus i dont like the look on tolans, too bad the effect is very ghey
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 04 2002 at 10:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) WTF is all the pissing and moaning about NO RENT. Go get one and you'll see its not no rent. And for it to be a quest item if they made it no rent no one would ever get quest done as it doesnt drop often enaugh for a PC to get it when he needs it. And to do drive by killing isnt gunna happen the place is camped most the time.

Not bad

I would get it. As a monk i could care less about losing 30 int. The 5dex is a kick but the ac is better then a Crown of the froglok king and i would not mind having the 30 charisma when selling.
Insane

I picked one of these up in trade, the trader told me "it's worth at least a k man". Generally I don't take these kinds of items in trade (that i have no intention of using) but I was satisfied with the cash portion of the offer as it was and when I saw +30cha and 15ac I thought "what the hell".
After thoroughly examining the item, all this ranger could think is "Wierd; I guess I'll have to sell this to a bard".
20 minutes later, a bard on my server traded me a lupine dagger (9/18 ranger only). Whether or not this was a "good" trade has been debated amongst friends and guildmates. I can only tell you this: I am very happy with my lupine dagger (sells for about 6-7k on my server) and I think there's a satisfied bard out there who made charming a lot easier for herself.
Cant believe how sweet this is

At the moment my Monk on the Tribunal is wearing this helm. I have been told by some that a Froglok Crown is better because of the saves. To be honest one can get past FR and MR most of the time and when needed buffs are available. I am pulling +53 FR off my standard equip atm and can easily slip into some resist gear for the cold. What counts is that this item has more ac and +5 agi. Agi=ac. Oh, almost forgot 0.0wt item with 15 ac. I looked at some of the pricing data and was disgusted. How on Earth could this helm go for 500pp and a Froglok Crown go for a k? I have seen these auctioned on my server for 3 to 5k and for what you get that is money well spent. I picked mine up off a Bard selling out at the Tunnel for 3k myself.
great for erudite chanters
# Sep 03 2001 at 2:33 AM Rating: Good
my chanter has a base int of 141 with no equip and cha of 85. i needed the int at first when i was a lower level, but now that i've got much better equipment and i need the charisma a lot more that i'm over 40, this crown is perfect. with such a high initial int, it was easy to get to 230 int without this and then when i equip it i have 200 int and 212 cha. perfect item for me.
int good! not only mana
# Aug 28 2001 at 10:54 PM Rating: Default
i thought i would also mention many formulas on saongs are based on int.
ie. - Verses of Victory - AGL = Int * (lvl/2) + 5
RE: int good! not only mana
# Jul 30 2002 at 11:39 AM Rating: Excellent
Boed, Intelligence is only used in calculating bard mana, not in the song formulas.

But I know how that rumor originated. Reed Stormwind created a wonderful spreadsheet that calculates bard song effects (http://www.eqdiva.com/files/songanalysis.asp). If you look at the formulas in the spreadsheet, many of them say INT(level/2 + 5). The INT() function returns the whole number (i.e., integer) result of the calculation. It does not mean intelligence, but someone unfamiliar with the INT() function misinterpreted this and began the intelligence rumor.
RE: int good! not only mana
# Oct 26 2001 at 3:18 AM Rating: Excellent
No bard formulas are based on INT. INT is ONLY used for calculating their mana (well OK, it's used in one formula then)

Bard mana
# Jun 11 2001 at 5:48 AM Rating: Good
Uhm...i am proud owner of that thingie. Its not nodrop nor norent. I am a bard and my int is at about 49.... oh well who cares about int as bard ? Do you really think you charm at post 50 that much that you would be able to drain your manapool oom? Nope...no way you could (or even survive that without draining your cleric oom 8) ). The 30 char and not to forget ac on it makes life much more easier for bards so dont get afraid about neg 30 int... int is our mana attribute but i've still to see a bard oom (cept when just ressed he,he,he ).

Not No Drop
# Jun 03 2001 at 10:05 AM Rating: Default
This item is not No Drop.

I joined a guild and we went on a raid and they gave this to me. I gave it back after the raid. I prefered my runed cowl. They thought the high cha would be a good boost.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 17 2001 at 9:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ps bard mana is int based

I have a 47 bard with one of these and the ONLY time I'm ever oom is after a rez. Granted, this thing puts me so far back in int (int 45) that I can't use dirge, but who cares? My cha is untouchable, and at level 47 deep in the hole last night I was charming mobs to get them off of lvl 55 clerics. IMHO, verant designed this item to be ub0r for no one but bards ;)
Currently on Bertox, this item is going for 15k. I've seen it for as high as 30k, but it seems to have settled at 15k for the moment.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 7:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) how much is the average price for this??? TY!
#Anonymous, Posted: May 07 2001 at 9:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) its no drop so it cant be sold, and no rent so would be a waste of plat if you could.

Int doesn't matter much to a bard, the -5 dex is easy to overcome for a bard.
