someone traded them to me for crusty leggings
# Apr 10 2002 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
on my very first trip to the overthere someone stated that they wanted to trade them for crusty legs and havin crusty arms and crusty gauntlets my dex and agi were suffering terribly so i traded them.. not good to be a high elf pally with already low stats on them but my question is is did i do the right thing by trading crusty legs for them?

I hate to burst your bubble, but I think maybe you came up short on this trade. The crusty has 1 point less AC, and the only really bad debuff on them is CHA, but you can take them off when dealing with NPC and mobs where high CHA is beneficial or necessary. Also, as a high elf paladin, you have very high CHA anyway, so the loss of a few isn't going to matter much. The big stat with the crusty is STA, which is something high elves are a little short on to start with. You get a few hp with that big STA buff that you lost when you took the ry'gorr. Now for someone else, who needs different stats, this may have been a better trade, but for your high elf pally, I think it was a bad deal.

Got mine at lv 35 with a full group. The orcs are tough and they only drop off the Elite Guards. I died a few times but its worth it. Look for a group w/ a Cleric and you'll have no problems. Elite Guards hit me for 100+ damage. Everyone usually goes in with the random roll so be patient and you get em. On me, they are a golden chain with a hugh blue belt.

Yar to a warrior they're not that bad but a warrior needs to worry about their AC more than anything so I'd go with crafted or some form of higher plate. Why is this stuff so good?...well I've got 3 reasons for you:

1-for chain wearing only classes like shamen they have GREAT AC for the price and have more stats than most of the totemic pieces

2-if anything they look damn cool on pretty much anybody except maybe half elves which makes it look like a sand colored spandex jumpsuit

3-any race can wear it and any class that's meant to wear heavy armor and it still looks unique to different races/sexes unlike many epic armors or old items like BS tunic

you must have velious armor=yes in your eq.ini file.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 17 2001 at 1:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if you ask me this is the best twink armor in the game. it is easy to get if you are hte right lvl and it is common as hell in the Ry'gorr camps. i love this armor. and as for the graphic changes i have not seen any, i have a BP and legs on my halfling rogue and they look just like chainmail.

RE: ???

Depends on what type of warrior you are. 1 STR for an ogre doesn't mean a damn thing. These legs are much better for my Ogre Warrior than crafted. I dont mind lowering my resting STR to 190 if it increases my MR over 90. Also, the 2 to DEX and STA are icing on the cake. 5hp, I don't know why they bother. At the level you need to be to obtain these legs, you lose 5hps just by having the MOB stand next to you.

WOW cool, but better than Ivy?
# Apr 17 2001 at 3:19 PM Rating: Default
Is this armor better than Ivy Etched armor, I am trying to save up my money for Ry'Gorr battle mail, but damn that costs alot. I am trying to get the highest ac possible as a ranger, so I think i'll stick with Ry gorr battle mail for the chest, and the rest Ivy etched, sound good??

Thank for youre help

yeah i agree lanlaas. I too have a banded cloak and leggings at 26. I would indeed say rygorr bp is better. 1 ac is still ac but 10 str and mana ain't something to ignore. Also rygorr armor is really good for rangers :)
I have a collar, bp and arms. I still need leggs, ivy or rygorr.

Sheane: While you wait to acquire either Ivy or Ry'Gorr legs, consider getting some Black Alloy Legplates from RunneyEye. 11 AC, fairly light, and very cool looking. They drop off the named MoBs and Destroyers on the 4th level.

Get a group down there, have some fun, get some GREAT drops, especially off the named (Lord, Battlemaster, and Battlewizard). In my two trips down there I upgraded my face, leg, and arms. Also picked up a pretty nice 2 hander. (all Black Alloy, the mask is REALLY nice).

Hmm, well if you want the highest ac possible, the ivy etched tunic is 1 ac higher the ry'gorr. I know, that's not much, but you said the highest <shrug>. Hmm... I wonder why a 17 ranger is worrying about all that while I'm still wearing a few banded parts at 30. Oh well, that's the wide world of twinking a suppose.
Crafted

they arent better than crafted, they have less AC and crafted gives 1str also
Better than Crafted?

Yes new graphics, but need TRUE in eqclient.ini

I think verant mentioned this but I thought myself and others had TRUE by default set in section:

[Defaults]

LoadVeliousArmor=TRUE

LoadArmor17=TRUE
LoadArmor18=TRUE
LoadArmor19=TRUE
LoadArmor20=TRUE
LoadArmor21=TRUE
LoadArmor22=TRUE

A friend of mine was not commenting on my druid's new pretty tizmak armor and when I asked she said her's were not displaying. She then went to check and hers were set FALSE. Changing them all she could see the armor. I don't remember if I changed all mine to true or not.

As far as not seeing them on a halfling all the armors might not have new graphics on all the races, not sure. They definately show and look VERY nice on humans, woodelves, half elves, darkelves and ogres (at least male for sure) as far as I've seen.

I just want to say thanks for the help and i have turned them all on. I saw the post at verant once then it disappeared and totaly for got about it then i saw your post, couldn't have done it with out your help thx. )

P.S. and to anyone that hasn't done this just go to eqclient.ini and just turn the false to true.
new graphic?
# Dec 11 2000 at 7:56 PM Rating: Default
Aren't the Ry'gorr pieces supposed to have some new graphic on you?

I got the legs the other day and they look like same old crumby chain leggings on me & my halfling friend who tried them on.

I think maybe not all races get new graphics. =(

New Graphics: Do you actually have velious installed?
# Dec 11 2000 at 8:36 PM Rating: Default
The new graphics for the new velious armor are only visible if you have the expansion. Otherwise they're the same plain vanilla variants you always see.
RE: New Graphics: Do you actually have velious installed?
# Dec 11 2000 at 8:40 PM Rating: Default
I saw the armor fine on a dark elf the night before. The next day I got my piece and that was that, never saw the new styles.

Maybe I need to reinstall Velious? Or maybe they never made ry'gorr looks for humans, wood elves, and halflings. (I couldn't see it on any of them, but saw it fine on a dark elf & barbarian).
Might be bugged
# Dec 11 2000 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
Sounds like a bug to me. Should show up on all races diffrent, not just a select few.
RE: Might be bugged
# Dec 11 2000 at 11:30 PM Rating: Default
Something is bugged b/c I have them on my human sk and they show up as gold chainmail.
RE: Might be bugged
# Feb 25 2001 at 1:05 AM Rating: Default
That's the way the look on a human, gold chainmail (look up the name of the item, it says chain, not plate or leather, doesn't it).
Have you seen any gold chainmail forged or looted before Velious?
It looks different depending on the race wearing it. DE's got the best look in Ry'Gorr armor.
I think no one cared enough to design a cool look for humans. The chain looks terrible on humans and so does all the leather armor from Velious.
Get the Flayed skin leggings, they are better for human sk's.
Where?
# Dec 10 2000 at 7:56 PM Rating: Default
Where exactly in east wastes do these drop?
RE: Where?
# Dec 18 2000 at 3:30 PM Rating: Default
I got mine from the orc camp bythe bridge in EW. Was there all day and only saw 2 pairs drop so they are pretty rare. Stats are great; I replaced my silver plated with them. Camp is most all blue to lvl 40 ranger and the oracle is 47-50 and really tough. Need either a cleric and high dmg tanks or good blasters as this guy hits doubles of 117+ regularly. But the experience and loot are great here.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 11 2000 at 11:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I want them to...
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 11 2000 at 10:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just have to laugh at the people asking where these drop. Have you ever been to waste lands? okay if you have, have you ever seen anything with the name Ry'Gorr above its head? if yes to this second question, then you have now found where these drop. Slay them all, someone said that they don't drop off cents, but i got a collar off one. Of course i have slayed thousands of them and only one piece has dropped. So more than likely since this is osme nice armor it will be on the higher level Ry'gorr orcs that these drop off of, like the oracle or the named ones. Think before you post people, the name of the armor gives it away...
The name gives it away?
# Apr 23 2001 at 12:57 PM Rating: Decent
Alright! So....what drops the Belt of the Cenobite?

What drops the Ry'Gorr Chain Mail? By your reasoning it would drop off every Ry'Gorr orc.

Names don't always give the drop away. There are lots of times when the piece is not dropped by what you would expect, judging from it's name.

This person was merely asking for advice...and, yes, advice from you. Don't go slapping people down just because they ask a question that is obvious to you.
RE: Where?
# Jan 15 2001 at 2:05 PM Rating: Default
I have to laugh at people who flame and then make themselves look stupid. you just said that you were told wher to get it, but it didn't drop, what's more it doesn't drop off the named, or the oracle.. it drops off elite guards, cents, and emasarries. the tunic drops from the chief. Don't be such and A$$HOLE when people try to find out about stuff. Especially if you aren't sure yourself.
