I remember some twink with a bunch of pp yelling he wants to buy a chest piece with 25 + ac on it and he was paying high pp. Well luckily i had bought this for 20pp or so off a merchant and had it on one of my chars and i told him id sell it he said he would offer 850pp for it. I crapped my pants. This was in 2002 i had just started. But unfortunately i spent it all on ringmail armor that merchants in the noob zone sold for about 50pp a piece. I bought a full set and later realised i had made a horrible mistake. I tried to sell it back to him and he said he would offer like 2pp a piece. I crapped my pants.
Long story short, i crapped my pants twice and lost 850 pp. Oh and this piece sucks imo.
Hmm

Instead of saying if this is good or not.. how about any information about if its for a quest or not? I find it hard to believe a level 50 mob in Kael would drop this piece of crap...

why reduce dex? dex means more hits, more crits, more procs, hence more dps wich is the essence of every battle.. if rangers get aggro and can't manage their aggro they die.. the clue is to have a good tank that can taunt the aggro off the rangers and rogues so they can do their insane damage. Neg dex is always bad..there is never anything good with it.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 28 2003 at 12:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dex means more procs and learning melee skills faster that's it.
dex is good

Dex actually is pretty important for different reasons. For casters, the more dex you have, the less chance you have of getting interupted while casting. For melee types, it helps to raise your weapon skills faster and gives you a better chance of landing blows. For rangers, dex increases your chances of getting a hit with a bow and also increases your chance of getting a crit shot. This chest piece might be ok at lower lvls, but once you get higher you would probably want to invest in something like a tree weave or a frogloc scale tunic. This tunic is pretty much crap for rangers. Unless of course you don't plan on using a bow or casting that much, and you want to give another reason for people to think rangers suck. There are other high ac tunics that rangers can use that doesn't hurt your dex like this does. Treeweave is 20 ac and str+10, and you can get one for less than 1k. Rangers don't really suck, it's the people that play those weak rangers that suck. I'm not twinked, and I'm not really a high lvl (lvl 42) but with my equipment I easily own any warrior my lvl in duels.

Shaman's opinion

I recieved one of these a few days ago, and since noone else wanted it, I got it. I had some serious reservations about using this, so I kept my Bloodstained Tunic with me for a few days after putting this on, just in case I decided I didn't want to wear the Militia tunic. So far, I have had no problems wearing it, it has twice as much AC as the BS, and shamans can always buff their dex. With a +50 dex buff, I walk around with only 97 dex, but imho, this hasn't hurt me at all.

actually, to the person that said dex is only important for procs, dex increases not only chance to proc, but also chance to strike a critical and crippling blow.

The look is a dark burgandy platemail BP with pre-velious graphic. 26AC is great for the 3 chain classes, but compared to treeweave you're losing 20 dex and 10 str. Shamans might want it, but we assumed it's a quest item as no one in our party would wear it. If you're one of the many people who preach that dex is useless, this is for you.

Dex is not worthless...

When I gained a level the other night, I noticed that my skill improvements came much faster when I had a Dex buff on than when I didn't.

As per when brad mcquaid said what all stats did.

So yeah, maybe with a big bunch of dex you'd be gaining points to melee skills faster.. but eventually that gets kind of moot. Levels and fights get long to the point where your melee skills are soon maxxed even if you only have 75 base dex or something.

just a thought

my statement would be "boy the militia has a realy stupid captain if he wears that into battle"

he probably doesnt use proc'ing weapons in battle, so i cant blame him one bit for using it! :)

two words, Iksar Shamen, what other chest piece do they have that even comes close to that AC? also, it's pretty good for clerics, who don't melee, but will get a beating from time to time
And keep in mind, just because you can afford better, dosen't mean an item is useless
RE: no, not really

True the DEX doesn;t really help the casters any--but as a cleric I would honestly think I would want a tunic that was +WIS or something on it---I am really not worried abotu AC--but maybe that i just me LOL

Yep, dex doesn't help casters really at all so the minus is no big deal. Plus iksars have high dex anyway.

Lots of the velious armor has its own unique graphic also which is a plus.

its cursed, but not bad for some
RE: it sucks

I think a ranger with proccing weapons might consider wearing this. First, it has great AC as compared to the ranger quest tunic (19 AC). Second, it reduces dex, which would reduce the proccing rate and therefore the aggro for some weapons. Ykeshas really come to mind here.
RE: it sucks
# Aug 01 2002 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
If somebody didnt want their weapon to proc, then they should sell their weapon and get a non-procing weapon with better stats. Unless they're some kind of stupid gimp, who sits in the corner peeing in his eye and biting himself in the face. I guess it would be ok then.
RE: it sucks
# Apr 29 2001 at 7:39 PM Rating: Default
This would definately reduce Ranger's aggro. You make a good point, this would definately help get rid of those annoying weapon procs. But an even better idea is to just un-equip your weapons all together and sit in a corner with hide on.
RE: it sucks
# Jan 07 2001 at 10:15 PM Rating: Default
i totally agree, im glad someone else sees reason. it is a great item for rangers (and iksars who cant wear the EBBP) but if you use yaks or other proc'ers then look for something else cause this will hurt proc's bad.
