What now?

Verant recently made a change so you can't turn in quest items while invis so how do we get Tektite? Especially since Verant's vision does not provide doable quests for every faction in the game. Can't turn in braids for faction in OT unless you have faction to begin with.

sneak... just need to get an invis, walk around to the back, sneak, turn in the gems, and there you go!
no drop

Someone mentioned that only the Rile's Sand Coin is no drop, which is inaccurate. The Heart of Ice from the icebone skeletons in Ill Omen are also no drop.

What they meant was, of the 6 items in this quest that are FORAGED, only the Rile's sand coin is no drop, which is true. The other five FORAGED items are not no drop, and you can have a more skilled forager forage them for you.

All the non-foraged items are no drop.
Can do out of order.

It is possible to do the quest before the copper one if you want. But you can't do the steel quest until you get the copper one. So if you do this first, go back and do the copper quest, then go to Rinmark and ask him "What student?" to get the ball rolling again for the steel shackle.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 08 2001 at 4:05 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) kinda cool because you now glow, but pretty useless for iksars who already have night vision.

Well, infravision is kind of limited. Helps you see creatures, but not inanimate objects. In dungeons it makes it difficult to navigate just relying on your infravision, having a light source is very helpful. Far from uselss.
Get seconds on everything!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this:

You should get 2 of everything necessary to complete this quest the first time around, since you will be handing in your Bronze and Copper shackles to Rinmark to complete the Shackle of Steel quest.

Then, you get another box from Rinmark, fill it up with your secondary items, and get another Shackle of Bronze.

Foraging a second Rile's Sand Coin can be a royal pain. Luckily I ended up with a second one right before I left Timorous.

None of the other items are hard to get.

This won't actually work... a number of the items you need to collect are LORE, as are the shackles themselves. In addition, you hand the 2 shackles to Veltar (the "iksar slave") in Droga to get the Shackle of Steel, NOT to Master Rinmark.

Just be careful that you don't hand in the box to get your second bronze shackle while you still have your first. Rinmark will take the box, and then you'll get the wonderful "Duplicate Lore Items" message.

Do your homework friend. Iksar Monks, for which this quest is (exclusively) intended, can forage.

all iksars can forage not just monks
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 12 2000 at 2:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why is this a Monk's quest? I have foraged a couple of these items and the Riles Sand Coin was a NO DROP! How can a monk do this quest? Also, with Teleport, my Druid can get around to these places easily and collect the items in a short time. For a simple item like AC6 +5 res mag, this seems like a VERY long quest to make. One that may not be able to be completed by a (recommended) MONK if foraged items are No Drop.

Iksar Monks can forage, I don't see your point, I've foraged most of this stuff on my own. A lot of quest material is no drop, so where's the problem?

Thats a sweet bracer too, I gotta finish this quest with my monk. It's hard to find both good ac items and magic resist items, so this bracer is very good. If this thing was tradeable it'd probably be worth 4k because its so good for a monk. You have to remember most classes, even of mobs revolve around magic resistability. I'd say magic resist is almost as important to a monk as str equipment is, although not nearly as important as a good weapon or ac items.

I can get my magic resist up around 45 with my monk, and even then, spells get resisted about half the time on white cons. Toss on a decent resist magic spell and you'll resist about 90% of spells. When your magic resist gets up to 110 or so you will resist all white con magic based casting. So, since monks dont get natural magic resist, and it helps a lot, this is a very good item. It's worth sitting in a zone doing nothing for a hours on end to get this bracer, its a very good item. For the weight I'd say its one of the best iksar monk bracer, next to the ghulam bracer and bracer of erollisi, depending on how much weight you have to work with. If you are close to your limit like I am, this is a very nice bracer.

This quest is similar to the Shackle of Rock quest, in the sense that it's very time consuming, but no particular part of the quest is that difficult. The 3 mobs you have to kill for quest items are all easier than Kwinn, the guy you have to kill for the Copper shackle. Of the 6 foraged items, only the Rile's Sand Coin is no drop, so you can get other people to forage them for you if you like. I bought the Plains Pebble to save the trouble of hikin all the way to Karana. Although I ended up heading that way anyway on the trip to Permafrost, a long annoying journey. Permafrost will show you that greens can be dangerous if there's lots of them. Got someone to invis me to get the Tektite. Stumbled on the Heart of Ice by an unlooted Icebone corpse in LOIO. Foraged the radiant meteroite at level 20; was lucky enough to cross thw FM zone without incident, although I got killed on the way back by goblins. I've been working on this quest for 12 levels now, and finally have all 10 items. Now I just got to get the previous shackle. Getting some guildmates to help me track down and kill Kwinn...

Anyway, this is a much better reward in proprtion to the work than the Rock shackle was.

The first poster who said this item and quest are no good is one of the poeple I just dont understand. This quest, and the whole game of EQ itself are SO much more fun when you roleplay and try to avoid the "i must level NOW" mindset. I am an iksar warrior and the pike we quest for is a pretty rotten item. I mean it finally ends up being a 12/40 piercing weapon with 6ac and can be worn in the back slot...but it weighs 12 pounds. I can find much better back slot armor that weighs less, and i can find better piercers...This quest is FLAT OUT FUN TO DO! My monk partner has been helping me, and now I am going to help him do the shackle quests. if you dont like the reward for the quest...try doing it for the fun of doing it and the chance to travel around norrath.... just my two cp's worth.

Also always remember that it is nessecary to do the shackle quest to the end in order to do the whistling fists quests as the monk epic weapon.

One more lil tid-bit, The quests are a blast! And essential to reach the final goal of the last shackle (+5 to all resists if i remember right, and +3 to most stats). Just that part of it is worth doing all of the others...sorta like a career long epic.

Yup... very much agreed. These are probably the most fun quests I know of, and remind me of the good ol newbie days :). Right now Im sitting in WW trying to get the wood, and I went to check the stats on Steel and found myself looking at a druidic inventory. Ive already done the quests to Steel myself- and now im helping another do it, which is almost more fun. Its things like this that really give MQ and such things a bad face, not just the illegalness of it. Dont do it for the stats. I was poor all along my monks life, and so the shackles were a savior for me, but still... stats isnt all. You have to do these for yourself, for the fun and for the great roleplay experience. Its what does really make the game fun.
Big agreement with the above posts.
