I had a SCH (slime coated harpoon) and dreamed of getting a SCS. I was meeting a guildie in shady (EC) to give him my old leggings when a barbarian came up to me and asked if I would trade my spear. Thinking he was a newbie not really relizing what the spear was I replied, "Probably not, unless I got the right...." then I saw the trade screen pop up with a nifty looking spear in it, I finished my sentence then looked at what it was. I quickly asked what else he wanted in the trade but he replied that he just wanted the harpoon. I put it in the trade window and hit trade. Then asked him why he did it (I'm sure I got the better deal....or did I). Then he said that he needed it for his range slot for the boosts. He then told me that he had a better Prm weapon. Hmmmm, I am now wondering if I did get the better end of the deal. Wudda you think?

I would like to know once and for all at what lvl this weapon procs. I have heard anywhere form 30-45 and I'm sick of hearing everyone tell me something different. If you could please let me know I would appreciate it. Thank You

mine has a damage of 10 and procs at level 41

The DMG on my spine chill spear is 11, not 10?

With a Dex of 105 and a level of 36, I receive the message that "my will is not sufficient to command this weapon." I hope this helps...

that means that your level is not high enough to proc the weapon, it procs when u hit 45

This string is about grammar and spelling errors. Jesus, gang, drop it. If it is not an informational, or opinionated, post about the Spine Chill Spear, then STFU!!!
RE: the Spine Chill Spear...I bought one on the Morell Thule server for 648pp mid-July 2001. My level 36 ranger cannot get it to proc. I am not aware of his buffed DEX, but will check it this weekend and update this post. Therefore, others will have a reference for level and dex re: its processing Shock of Ice.
However, for its speed and base damage, it is a great piercer for him.
Even if the proc is 38hp of DD, at least that mob will start running sooner than if the SCS had no proc at all.

Looks like I might have to head to Velious and get some Twink loot for my lower alts.
Will have to get the Mrs comp Velious so she can bring her almost 39 Shamie along to heal my 40 Warrior while he slices and dices at 135hp a cut.

umm, a 40 warrior and a 39 shaman would get so severely owned by the Ry'Gorr Cheif. Find your self a good group with a smart druid or ranger puller and you'll have a lot better luck. you might hit for 135 a slice but he hits for more and he has probly 4 times your hit points.

I am a 27th Dwarf Rogue (Dark elf with mask :P) that is weilding this weapon in the primary and a Yak in the 2nd. I just wanted to say for those Rogues out there not using slashing in the off-hand start. With the amount of unbuffed dex I have (157) at 40th lvl I will be proc'ing weapons left and right. At 37 the Yak starts to proc and at 40th the spear will start to work. This is a ok spear but there are many better items out there so don't spend more then 1K for this.

If you see spear you get spear, only. If no spear you will get the Battle Mail only- but only then about 2/3 of the time.

The chief is a fairly rough mob, my mid 40s group took him out ok, but i died in the fight, and he didnt drop the battle mail. On the plus side, the avengers didnt pop either, so i guess it was win some, and lose some.

This now sells for less than the Battle Mail. Sells for 900pp or so no morell thule, if the chief is holding spear it always drops. Since the last patch I have killed non-spear chief 6 times and only got 2 BM's. By the way I like this quote on jan 30th "Most of the word processing software available today has 2 fetures, a grammer checker and spell checker. I suggest you invest some $ and get one...and use it. " Nice work **** cheese, a post to ***** about spelling with 2 spelling errors in one sentence.

This is becoming more and more common and the price range given above has come way down... I traded a pair of icetooth claws for mine in EW, and was told by the bard who sold me it that she usually sells it for 600-1000pp. Much more reasonable.

killed him twice yesterday. he was pretty hard, blue to a 52 and hit for about 170. he dropped rygorr battle mail both times we killed him.

I got this at lvl42 and the highest it has proc'd for me is 38hp however it goes off every 20 seconds if not faster, the guy i got it from said he had only seen upto 38 points from its proc, he was lvl 40 so in conclusion it procs from lvl40 (possibly lower) and does 38hp DD that can be resisted fully or partially, hope this helps a little. on price i traded a Cleric arm slot worth 4500pp for it and i think i got a good deal, any shaman or ranger would love this item 3sta 6wis dmg/dly of 2.8 and only 3wgt plus 10svcold for good measure, whats not to love.
