Piercing?

I agree a pick might use a slashing motion, however there are quests you can do as a newbie dwarven rogue and the reward is a pick, which uses the piercing skill.

I have never understood a weapon being too small for someone medium sized to use.. i mean ?? what ?? the handle to short for a medium creature to hold onto or what?
Slashing?

*looks puzzled at the pick, Wonderig how can it slash?*
RE: Slashing?
# Apr 24 2002 at 6:36 AM Rating: Decent
ahhh... maybe cus the motion u use to swing it ...thus a slashing motion...

as compaired to the thrusting motion of piercing !!!!!!!!!!! assuming u think it should be a piercer :P

RE: Slashing?
# Apr 07 2002 at 3:09 PM Rating: Default
One thing to keep in mind is that most picks (pickaxes) have two heads usually. One is a spike for loosening dirt, the other is a broad head with a sharpened edge. Maybe this one has both heads sharpened. Who knows, it's a fantasy game. ;)
RE: Slashing?
# Jan 25 2002 at 5:12 AM Rating: Default
Obviously slashing means that it is wielded like a sword and dragged back along your enemies body, whereas piercing would be more of a thrusting sort of motion intended to impale. Slashing and piercing are weapon skills, not descriptions of the actual weapon.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 25 2002 at 9:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) a stabbing motion with a sword would be considered a pierce then?
RE: Slashing?
# Dec 16 2003 at 10:45 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, if u stab with a sword it is a piercing motion, but this is not how the average sword is really intended to b used, they are normally slashing weapons. A rapier on the other hand is ment to pierce (and is labled as such) A pickax is also best used with a sweeping motion of the arm causing a long cut on the opponent's body, and this is slahing.

RE: Slashing?
# Jan 28 2005 at 9:57 AM Rating: Decent
Hate to go against the grain, but....

Picks were used against plate armour becuase of the protection such armour gave from slashing weapons - just look at the Bec du Corbin (Crow's Beak?) Picks pierced the armour, and the head/body beneath it, and were pulled back out of the same hole. If used badly, on unarmoured opponents, they may cause a ragged slash, but they were piercing weapons primarily.

This is a really good weapon.

ok its 12/29 with a 12pt effect velium shards. Can be used in either hand. Cannot be used by Half Elfs though =(

I recently aquired this weapon and with it I can hit anywhere from 20-40. The quest is relativly easy for a group of 34-40's. The proc doesn't do much but in battle an extra 12pts makes a difference.

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 16 2001 at 3:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) In reference to the guy above who states he had his alt ported to great divide to obtain an item from a mob his main just killed, I say thats a lotta crap. For those who have traveled to the land of ice and snow, the fact that ya hafta get the tooth from the dragon circle to be able to port there in the first place. So either way the alt character has to travel there on foot the first time. There is no port to GD available to any character unless he has the dragon tooth in his possession. Oh by the way before ya respond (if ya do - which i prolly wouldnt, feeling so embarassed) with some crap about giving a tooth to your alt ... nice try its no drop ... and LORE. So, not trying to bust yer bubble when ya say ya have done it many times ... thats a lotta crap

# Oct 22 2001 at 3:33 PM Rating: Default
Well actually it isnt that hard. You can make the run from IC to GD at low level if you are careful. A high level sow can outrun anything on the way that aggroes and camo/invis make most things indifferent. A couple of higher level hp buffs(HB or SLN/symbol) could easliy keep you alive long enough to outrun something tat aggroed anyway. It is like crossing kith at night, you can do it at low level you just need to be careful.

Did you ever stop to think they might have had their alts ported to GD and then had them loot the corpses? I for one have done this and i know several others who have as well. Before you ridicule someone, please consider options carefully.

Ohh, and BTW...grats on soloing cazel with your lv12 enc, and on almost completeing your epic. I'm so proud of you.

Ok My warrior Norak just hit lvl 30 and it finally proc'd. to my dissapointment it was only the 12dmg proc. at least thats the most i have seen it do. have been fighting iceclad cougars but doubt their resistance is that high cause have seen it do as low as 2 dmg. either way a nice axe and still glad i did the quest especially when i have wurmslayer in my primary and this in secondary.

not sure if this is standard for all velium-enhanced weapons, but the 3 different ones I've had didn't proc until 25. Since this is a quest item, it could be different, or I could just be drunk.

And the standard proc damage was 12 pts...consistently

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 14 2001 at 10:18 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) has any half elf bards tried to equip this slasher after he/she was in dark elf form? i doubt that verant would let that slip by but i just thought it might be worth a shot, post back here if it works or not.

Assuming the Velium Shards effect on this is the same as on the Velium weapons, it does 12 damage, and procs in the early to mid 20s. It procs with moderate frequency (I usually get hit with one or two procs when fighting Velium-armed Tizmaks).

The effect isn't so hot, especially on the plain Velium weapons, which have no where near this good a ratio, but its better than nothing.

I generally just give the Velium weps to newbies, myself, as I can remember the days when wisps were unbeatable because I only had a mino axe...
RE: how much damage
# Jul 01 2001 at 9:32 AM Rating: Default
Being a Coldain Velium item, I would suspect that it procs right from level 1 as other store bought Coldain Velium does.

FYI

Race - PRIMARY SIZE/secondary size
--------------------------------------------------
Barbarian - LARGE/medium
Dark Elf - SMALL/medium
Dwarf - SMALL/medium
Erudite - LARGE/medium
Gnome - SMALL
Half Elf - MEDIUM/small
Halfling - SMALL/medium
High Elf - MEDIUM/small
Human - MEDIUM
Iskar - MEDIUM
Ogre - LARGE
Troll - LARGE
Wood Elf - SMALL/medium

The primary is basically the majority of the items available to that race. The Secondary is the items outside of their size limit they can use, but it's limited for balance.
RE: How sizes work
# Sep 28 2001 at 12:48 PM Rating: Good
Half-Elves are Medium only.
Erudites, I believe but im not certain are also Medium only.
Halflings, Dwarves, and Gnomes are all Small only.
To my knowledge the rest of the "How sizes work" post is correct.
I just wanted to make a few corrections.
If my post needs a few corrections, then please feel free to do so.

Small Races Only

come on, it's not that hard to see that only small races can wear it. Half Elf and Iksar are both Medium Races!

so half elves and iksar and medium races. where
does it say small only. my experience is that
half elves can wear small to medium armor so what
gives?

RE: DEs an wear small!

AS most of my charas are DEs I should know... pure elf classes are small AND medium sizes...
RE: DEs an wear small!
# Nov 23 2002 at 2:30 AM Rating: Default
yeah, that's just poor game planning on Verant's part. Half elves are shorter than High elves, and thinner than dwarves, yet we can't wear small armor. WHAT GIVES?!?!
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 05 2001 at 12:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Can't figure why a race would be barred from using this type of weapon but oh well. Oh, nm. I see that it's reserved for small-using races.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 29 2000 at 2:29 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Though the text is listed as showing it's usable by half-elf rangers like me, look closer. You're a complete idiot. The guy says, clearly, in his post that HE LOOKED ON THIS PAGE BEFORE HE DID THE QUEST. The guy you were replying to did not ever be rude or disrespectful towards you or anyone else in any way. Why would you flame him? Idiot..
RE: NOT FOR HALF-ELVES
# Apr 09 2001 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
I feel the same frustration. I apparently pulled up the ONE page that listed classes but not races. So i completed the quest and found it was not something a half elf could use. In my humble opinion, and I am entitled to my opinion, I think since this item seems to be available to every other elf in Norrath, half elves should be no exception. I further think "pssst, HIE ...stands for high elf" didnt have to post such an insensitive remark.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 07 2001 at 3:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Psst. Do some research before completing a quest.
