I got one of these from a friend who saw it in the Bazaar. Not having Luclin, I can't use the Bazaar (:(), so he got it and brought it to me. Cost me 7pp. I gave him a little more for his journey (and not just because the silver was weighing me down!)
I love this weapon. Before this, I was using just a Two-Handed Sword, but this has less delay and it's magical, so I can finally hit those damn Elementals without having to resort back to my newbie Bone Hilted Long Sword! Although the damage on this is the same as the old Two-Hander, it hits for more. I was maxing at 25 with the old one, and I rarely hit below 28 with this. It's the best purchase I've made in a long long time, and it was a quarter of the price of the old sword.

For those folks around level 20, I can't recommend this weapon highly enough. The only downside, as far as I can see, is that I'm guessing it's gonna be really expensive to upgrade when the time comes!

Nah, thats pretty close to the right price on them now. I bought the ******* sword and the sledge for 40pp total for both, and the guy seemed happy to unload them. There are a lot of better 2 handers out there for cheap prices now.

Just found one on a caiman in oasis of marr, no joke. Pretty sweet sword, ill prolly use it as my tanks corpse recovery weapon
RE: nice weapon
# Apr 09 2002 at 5:27 AM Rating: Decent
some higher-level char prolly traded it to the caiman so a lowbie/newbie could find it. i once got a Deathwatch Sword off of a spiderling in Field of Bone.

just on the topic of higherups putting cool stuff on lowlevel creatures, i think it's pretty cool. it allows lowbies to find "phat lewtz" and have a more fun game.

Straying a tad from the sword discussion but keeping in topic with the stocking thread, I must agree that this is a fun tactic. Many times you have something worth very little to you and probably useful to someone lower. However, you don't want it to end up as an overpriced vendor item, so you drop it on a MOB that can be killed by someone of the level where this would be useful. Just don't put it on a MOB that will be killed by guards. Doh!

Dmg Bonus

I just saw one of these on Tin Merchant IV in OT (lookin over my shoulder actually, my rogue is okay in OT with the mask; yes, I know, rangers are KOS) for 209 pp. Now that's not so strange, but here's what I want to know:
the weapon listing (from right click inspection) claimed that the damage was 20 but it said:
dmg 20 dmg bonus 7.
What does that mean exactly, has anyone ever seen a "damage bonus" like this?

The damage bonus is related to the delay on the weapon. The slower the delay on the weapon, the greater the damage bonus. Also as you increase in level, the bonus increases. The first bonus is available at level 28. I've seen a damage bonus applied to 1HS and 2HS, and I'm fairly sure it's applied to all types of weapons. I have not verified this, but the damage bonus may be only available to certain classes.

The delay of 45 on the Drakkel gives a pretty big damage bonus once you achieve the level needed. I believe at level 28 my bonus was 5 and later at level 35 my bonus was 9.

A recent patch added damage bonuses for 2 hand weapons. It is level dependent, and if it is 7 at 42, it will be much higher as you near 60. If my level 14 warrior had the same weapon, it would say bonus 0.
RE: Dmg Bonus
# Oct 19 2001 at 7:17 AM Rating: Default
If I'm not mistaken that is the damage bonus given to make the two handed weapons more compairable to using two one hand weapons.

I had one of these when I was lvl 19. Bought it off of the shady shawbuckler in EC for 112pp. I was only hitting for 28dmg and thought I should be hitting for more. I got my skill up to 100 with this and then I sold it for 100pp. DOH!!!!! Now I'm kicken myself in the ***!! I want it back. If you're on 7th hammer and have one for sale send dravenknight a tell. As a pally, you should get the deepwater harpoon instead. it is an 18 damage, 40 delay weapon and adds five to strength and 5 to wisdom. Plus, if you read the info on it, you'll find the quest has a flaw that makes it really easy to get, as long as you can invis to undead. It's pally only, so harder to sell, but really nice weapon for 20's levels.

Damage cap?
# Aug 16 2001 at 5:13 PM Rating: Decent
I just traded my Tower Guards Blade plus 45pp for the Dakkel BS, and I'm still only hitting for 29 damage at max. Im a level 18 Pally, with 102 str when yaulp and buffs are on. Hit for 30 when i was SUPER buffed, but only happened once. Any info would be nice, thanks.
RE: Damage cap?
# Mar 11 2003 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
I bought my Ranger one of these when he was about L7 or so. It basically doubled his damage output to 28 per hit which at the time was way too much for the mobs he was hunting and it was a distinc unfair advantage :)

As he progressed, at about L13 the damage cap became restrictive and it was just as good to go 1H Slash to up my skill with a faster weapon. I used the Blackened Alloy LS (Magic item, 10DMG 29 DLY SV Poison +3) and was doing as much if not slightly more damage (hit for between 14-20).

I used this till L17 when I got Dual Wield.

Now I'm about to hit L20 and the damage cap is about to be removed I'm going back to my Drakkel for the extra damage with Double Attack. It should be Uber again.

I can vouch that the cap of 28 or 29 is lifted after you reach level 20. I just bought this thing off a Freeport vendor for 107pp. I'm exactly level 20, and it frequently hits for 40 with an occasional 41. I don't see any bonus damage as referred to in a previous post, but that may be due to my level.

At level 20, this is a nice paladin weapon. Since paladins also get Double Attack at 20, you'll get the occasional round doing 80 damage. This is a nice switch from the early levels of just being happy to get double-digit damage in a round. Get one of these at level 20 and you'll be smiling.

I'll be using a quick, light scimitar to get my 1 HS up and then revert to this new toy for the rest of each level, since I need alot of work on 2 HS (I bet this story sounds familiar).

RE: Damage cap? - Yes
# Aug 19 2001 at 12:28 PM Rating: Decent

I could be mistaken, but there's a damage cap until 20 such that your max damage on a weapon will be 14. Wielding this 45 delay 20 damage weapon under level 20 makes it a 45 delay 14 damage weapon. You'll hit for damage*2 plus strength bonus. When you hit 20, you'll be hitting for 40+ hp.

Cap or no cap, the Tower Guard's Blade (36 delay and 15 damage, plus 5 ac) is the better weapon. The delay/damage ratios and weights are the same, and the Tower Guard's Blade has AC. Even if the Tower Guard's blade had a worse ratio, it might be worth the extra AC. You got a pretty bad deal.

For weapons without procs, compare ratios. If the ratios are similar, compare delays and AC/stats.

But also, while the Tower Guard's blade does add the ever important stat called AC, if might we worth while to note that 2handed weapons with a delay of 40 or greater have damage bonuses added to them. Even then the damage will be (damage rating X 2) + 1;
31 dmg every 3.6secs for tower guard's blade (max 8.611dmg/sec, avg 4.305dmg/sec)
41 dmg evert 4.5secs for Drak forged bastsword(max 9.111dmg/sec, avg 4.555dmg/sec)

So already the max damage of the Drakkel Forged is superior, while this may be offset by the AC provided from the TGB, the DFBS ratio will in actuallity be much better due to it's higher delay. That is why a weighted axe (50dmg/150dly) does about 150damage a hit, even though by the calculation it should only max at 101dmg. (of course since only large races can use the weighted axe, their STR bonus will have to be taken into account, but i don't think i've ever seen a 50point jump in damage from STR bonus alone)

p.s. This is what i've gathered from information forums (be they true or not) if anyone disputes, please post the correct formula here, i too am interested in knowing the proper way of number crunching (gawd they taste gewd!)
Not always Visible
# Aug 16 2001 at 3:26 PM Rating: Decent
I got one of these last night off a frost giant scout. He had a velium spear visible in his hand, but when we looted him we found he had BOTH the velium spear and the Drakkel Forged ******* Sword. So it is possible for them to be carrying them, yet not appear to be carrying a sword, at least.

Picked two of these up in GD last night - one was given to me by a very nice monk who i was grouped with as she wanted the velium rapier. FG scouts - Frost Giants wandering there are at most lvl 36 (conned blue to me at 37)and drop relatively frequently. They dont drop from those who appear to be carrying weapons, except the hammer. The main drops are velium Scimitars, spears and rapiers.

Decent enough weapon, not as good as a BABS but better than a BIBS and does indeed look very cool.

Characters below 20 are limited by a damage cap. It seems to be 28 damage, plus the strength bonus. Carry an axe of iron back or a h1s and shield (for the ac) until 20, then start using this.
using it to raise my 2hs
# Jun 06 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
I picked this up in GD today and already have my 2hs raised from almost nothing to 40 or so. I am doing average of low 30's per hit to low 50's on good strikes. I can't wait to see what it looks like once I actually have the skill high enough to hit more than 10 times during a fight LOL. Not a bad weapon all things considered.
vs Iron back
# May 28 2001 at 1:56 AM Rating: Decent
I got this from a Frost Giant Scout. It was unseen till I killed it. I killed him with my necro and gave the item to my lvl 16 Ranger. My ranger is rather untwinked (all banded armor) and being a wood elf has low str but he is hitting in the mid 30's with it. I prefer this to the axe of iron back that I was using prior.

Interesting that a lvl 16, who is still constrained by the damage cap, and therefore should be hitting for 29, 30 max is hitting for mid 30's. The axe of the Iron back is the best 2hs for sub 20's, period. NO weapon is going to do more than 30 damage consistently on a sub 20 character (unless strength is VERY high, and then maybe low 30's, but youd get same strength bonus with the axe), and Axe of Iron back has a 37 delay, which is way better than this, while still limited by the damage cap.

After you hit 20 and the damage cap goes off, this weapon is better.
