I have hunted these off and on for awhile. After nearly a level worth I saw only one drop. Luckily I won it (first time I ever won anything decent). I have friends who have hunted the same times and places (Near happy gnoll and igloos in IC) and they have been much more sucessful. I think it more luck of the draw than absolute frequency.

Ok everyone, I'v got a question, how OFTEN do these things drop the CC earings? In Iceclad.

I've killed 400 to 500 (quad-kiter) cougars and have gotten 5 earrings so far. So, I assume this means roughly 1 to 2% chance. However, I got the first four pretty quickly.

Ah just an added note, someone below me thought that in Iceclad they drop more frequently then EW. I think this is for sure true, seeing the rate of the ones that we found in Iceclad. Try there ppl. It should be better.
RE: agree

I don't think that the cougars in IC have any more of a chance to drop an earring then one in EW does (most likely have the exact same loot table), but cougars are just so much more common in IC that your best chance for getting an earring is definitely by going to IC.

Strange, I think my server is cheap. I hear this earring goes for 150pp or so. Dang that bursted my bubble when I looted one today. I said whohoo 500pp, and the cleric in my group told me no way. LOL stupid cheap Tholuxe Paells. I think they're common on our server tho, because in about 30 hr, we found 2. That's about 1 every 5 cougars.

Christ, I think you need to find a better group, you're telling me that in 30 hours of hunting you found 2 earrings, you also say you get about 1 earring for every 5 kills, that means you killed 10 cougars in 30 hours, 3 hours a cat ffs! wtf were you upto? =)

I know that these still go for 450 at most on E'ci.

I've spent a lot of time with druids in EW and have yet to see one drop, so it could be a bit more rare on E'ci.

Really, these are just an upgrade for orc fang earrings and those go for 50pp each at most. So think about it before you spend.
Price deviation
# Jul 19 2001 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent
The price you see above is an average of all the people who have been kind enough to add their sale to the pricing data. It may be that no one has done that for a while and the price is now out of date.

Solution: stop complaining and click "price data" and add in the price you sold your earrings for. If enough people do this the price above will drop to the current market value

Try it!
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 06 2001 at 9:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) In 4 hours, I had 9 of these drop...anyone who would spend more than 100pp on one of these is a fool.

Haha!

They must've had a 4th of July special. Prior to yesterday, I killed over a level of these(probably around 100+) with a partner and none dropped.

So what the heck, none of my friends were on and these still give me exp. Went to Iceclad and killed 10 of them which yielded me 2 cougar earrings.

<Laugh>
I'm a wizard and I really don't need it... Anyways.. these make good twink items.

It's just pure luck getting these things.

When you guys were getting these phenomenal drop rates, were you in Iceclad, or in EW? I hunted them for quite some time in EW, prolly enough for two yellow bubs in 35 solo, and never saw one drop. I bet I killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25 kitty's. After reading some of these posts, and others, it seems that most of the ppl that are getting lucky are hunting in Iceclad.
Why Pay So Much?

Why would anyone pay so much for an earring? I'm not gonna buy it even though I dont have any earrings.
RE: Why Pay So Much?
# Jun 18 2001 at 10:00 PM Rating: Default
thats a dumb question! How do you think people get 200 str or 200 int!?!!??! they most certainly have earrings like this! This is an awsome earing! 2 gives you 6 str and 4 dex
that gives you 5 more pounds you can carry and lets you hti your max more often! Dex is UBER important! With the shammie buff dex aura i do double attacks a LOT more and my ghoulbane procs like 2 times per battle! DEX also helps you raise certain weapon skills! It helps you hit more with ranged weapons. earings are uber important and worth lots to people! there are earings that add 25 hp and 30 mana each! there are earrings that give you underwater breathing! Theres and earing that casts a spell that ups your attack!(worth several kpp)!

for casters earings are even more important with +5int and such! So dont even go off on how you dont need earrings!

was in a group near the gnomes for about 1/2 an hour. got 2 earrings to drop, but unfortunatly i lost both rolls. it is possible to get these things, it just depends on luck and whether or not your server is in a good mood or not : )

drop change
# Jun 09 2001 at 5:55 PM Rating: Decent
i have heard rumors that they changed the drop rate of these earrings on all the servers. I believe that rumor too, i was soloing there at lvl 30 with my mage and i got about 2 or 3 a night, then when i was lvl 38 trying to get some more i only got 1 in a whole week of playing. it might just be bad luck, but i don't think its that because i was the only one hunting them most of the time, so i would have gotten any that dropped.
they must have changed the drop rate or something
# Jun 05 2001 at 11:32 AM Rating: Default
i soloed cougars from 30 to 31. It took 3 cougars to get a blue bub. This mean 15 cougars for an orange bub, and 75 for the whole level. That means I've killed AT LEAST 75, but probably more since I died a few times, but anyway the point is I STILL HAVEN'T LOOTED AN EARRING!!!

Wow , i went to the igloos to buy my divine purpose spell , now that i am a lvl 39 pally. I killed a couple cougars after getting the spell just to check out how well it works, they con green to me, must be high green , cuase i got exp. I let the coug, claw me up a bit before i killed it , then the second one, wow my regen spell works great. so on my way back to the boat dock, another couger aggro's me. & starts clawing me, i was medding i think. Killed it quick , cause i did mot wanna miss, boat, lookes at corpse & wow, cougar claw earring. My lucky day i guess. I may go back there some day soon , to try for more, my alts can use a few , as well as me wanting one more, hehe, & get a tiny bit of exp.
I guess the thing to watch out for is multiple pulls , or attacks?? I will try it again some day

Just as in RL an item is only worth what someone will pay for it. No matter what a book/site or anything else says. One person may be willing to pay 1kpp for it another wouldnt pay over 100pp for it, it all depends on the individual.

Spent about 2 hours here constantly killing cougars around the tower with a 35 warrior and 46 druid. Got 3 earrings, 1 of those fang piercing weapons, one MQ cougar skin, and many LQ/HQ skins. Those that aren't having them drop are having bad luck, seems like a good drop rate for a pretty good item.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe you had good luck, as opposed to everyone else having bad luck? I hunted Cougars solo for five strait levels and only got eight of the earrings to drop. Most nights I only got one. Some nights after hunting for more than twelve strait hours I didn't get any. Once I got two, to drop back to back. If I had taken any of these experiences alone as my judge, I would either think they never dropped, or were a common drop. My point being, you can't use your one experience hunting around the Tower, to judge the drop rate. You need to hunt there for several nights before your qualified to judge. As someone that has hunted there for a couple of weeks, I would place the drop rate as rare, or atleast simi-rare.

Gonna second that. Quad kited cougars for three straight levelsin Iceclad now, killed about 220 of them and looted 1 (one !) Earring and Bloodstained Fang each exactly. Two other druids hunting there at the same time reported the same phenomenon, 0 earrings out of 90, and 1 out of 300 roundabout killed. Guess the earring is rarer then it appears to be. Then again, its quite nice !

Hello All,

Do these earrings drop more often off the higher level Kitties? Or is the rate the same for all of them, in any zone they spawn in? Thank you!
RE: Drop Rate = Level ?
# May 26 2001 at 3:56 PM Rating: Default
Rate seems to be the same, regardless of level. The ones in Eastern Wastes are only a level or two higher (on average) than the ones in Iceclad, so I doubt there's too much difference, if any, in the frequency.

I have been at the iceclad docks for about 3 levels now quadkiting these excellent cougars. Killed about hrm, 400 of the in total and gotten 5 earrings. I sold 2 for 100pp each, and i know it was way way low. I auctioned in Gfay a busy night and got only one reply in an hour so i didnt think they were this valuable...

Cougars there drop crap stuff, and cheap fur.
This is basically the loot you get there...

Have 3 in bank atm, dunno what to do with them..
I did see a lvl57 warrior camping snowfeather who had them...
These Are A Rare Drop From My Experience
# May 12 2001 at 5:19 PM Rating: Default
I spent all of level 35 hunting Cougars solo and have only gotten two so far. Level 35 is a hell level and I had to kill twice as many Cougars as normal to get to the next level. So actually I've killed two levels worth of Cougars to get two earrings.
