Haste Cap stinks, but... (heheh Stinks but)

Really stinks this doesn't go past haste overcap (at my level it's 182%), but if you can settle with 25% haste instead of the 45% you can get from Potions of Alacrity or are trying to save money, this should be a useful macro while using it.

Robe of Whistling Fists - The easy way
# Sep 11 2006 at 11:07 AM Rating: Decent
I am raising a monk up and twinking the hell out of him every chance I get at the moment. I hit level 46 and decided to start checking out what is required for his epic, so I got on alla and waded through years of posts on each part of the quest and quickly decided that the prequest to get this cloak would be the most time consuming pain in the butt part. Since clicky haste is something no monk should shun, I went ahead and decided to obtain the robe of whistling fists. Since everyone elses posts helped me so much Im going to share my experience with the rest of you.

My Monk is an iksar, and a particularly lazy one. Factioning has never been my strong point, and with the way servers are now you can sometimes be hard pressed to find a mid level group, especially if you play at odd hours as I do. Taking this into consideration I decided to find the quickest way possible. Since the factioning required for the headband quest didnt seem worth it, I decided to stake out Rathe Mountains and kill brother Zephyl, in this manner I could steal HIS robe of the lost circle instead of doing the factioning and hunting down a ton of rare spawns in a lot of backwoods zones in order to get it the quested way. The place holders for Brother Zephyl all spawn in the new Hill giant area, their pathing takes them to the 4 way fork in the road due west of zone in from the feerrott. I loaded up my 70 ranger and stood their waiting... The placeholders are "a drake", Hasten bootstrutter (since I was camping here anyway I got my monk a pair of JBoots for clicky sow), and Maldyn the Unkempt. I camped him three seperate times, the final time for a little over 5 hours... After killing 34 drakes, 10 hastens, 2 maldyns, and three zephels who did not have the robe, Brother Zephyl popped with the robe on. If you are in zone when he spawns you will see the robe graphic beneath his cloth tunic. Zephyl is no chump though, so make sure that whoever is fighting him is stong. He hits fast for around 250-300 and is extremely resistant to magic. My 1K nukes were landing for 130-150, or not landing at all. He resisted my epic slow entirely and despite having a little over 10K and 2K AC when self buffed, my butt was saved by the use of potions and the fact that he runs around 15%.

Next I needed the two pipes from chardok and Karnors... So to Karnors Castle I went. The camp in this zone is towards the back of the zone and you can check other links for the /loc and decription of the room if your are not familiar with the zone. If you are familiar, then you will remember the warlord room. Breaking the room would be tough for a monk at the level in the game that they would be working on their epic. I went in with the ranger, cleared the room and flop ran the monk the whole way. I didnt know it yet, but this camp ended up being a long one. Spawn timer in the room is 26 mins, so I would kill room, and I had a kitchen timer set for 25 mins that I would start up whenever the first mob died. After room was cleared I would afk with the afk message "waiting for respawn" I did this for hours and hours... eventually after 18 hours and 11 mins of being there non-stop I got my pop, my kill and my pipe. The only issue I had the whole time was that a 70 monk wanted my camp at some point while I was afk, so he brought about 20 mobs onto my unbuffed ranger and promptly went FD. When I came into the room and saw my ranger half dead among a sea of mobs I popped a HoT potion and went to work. After killing the mobs, the monk has the balls to tell me "get out of my camp, Ive been here for the last 7 days". We had a short exchange wherein he told me that there wasnt anyone in there when he showed up, no he didnt bring the mobs in, and that I wasnt even in zone when he was camping the room. I told him that he was a liar and a pretty big ******* for trying to train me to steal the camp and he /ooc'd to call me an "Ahole" before he gated out. So special thanks goes to the monk Lomaco on Tunare server for making 18 hours of sheer boredom more interesting.

Finally it all came down to the metal pipe in chardok. I was worried about a long camp after my karnors experience. Got to chardok on the ranger, cleared camp. For those familiar with the zone the camp is at the intersection where you turn right to get to the royals, where the Ancient Guardian spawns in a small alcove. The camp has about 4 mobs would require a group of 50's to break. After clearing the camp I ran the Monk in, relying on an invis potion to get me there safely. I camped and returned to ranger, and due to pure luck I suppose, the iksar betrayer who drops the pipe spawned after my first clearing of camp, so with a 14 min spawn timer at the camp I suppose I spent a total of 30 mins in zone.

As an iksar monk with bad faction, I had to convince an enchanter to come and help me out with final turn in, but now I have my robe which is a nice piece of equipment for a 46 monk, and once I hit 51 I will knock out my epic.

I apologize for the long post, but I want to say thanks to all the posters on the subject of this robe, the pieces needed to obtain it, and the monk epic quest. This site is a wonderful tool, and I hope that this small guide helps others as much as the information from all over this site has helped me.

I have an Iksar monk currently doing this quest.

It is not impossible.

Getting non-KoS to Qeynos you need to wipe out Blackburrow many many times. I have done this and was able to do the headband quests. Another faction that is helpful to raise is the Corrupt Qeynos Guards. Start handing 5gp at a time to Guard Shilster in North Karana. There is a nasty Corrupt Guard who patrols near the Qeynos Monk guild.

Getting non-KoS to Freeport, you need to get non KoS to guards and monks. Killing EC/Nektulos/Misty Thicket orcs raises Freeport Monks faction. Just like Blackburrow it takes days of doing this. You also need guard faction. Get this by first getting non-KoS to the Highpass Guards and handing in Orc scalps (from highpass or crushbone even not deathfist ones) or gnoll scalps.

For good measure I got non-KoS to Sister Isle among other places by sneaking and turning in Muffins to Pandos.

I have done all the sash and headbands, gotten the Idol and Code, turned in the code for the needle and I am trying to spawn Brother Zephyl in Rathe Mountains.

Side benefits to all this factioning:

I can walk through Karanas unmolested by guards.
I can walk through East Freeport, West Freeport, North Freeport and use the bank there. I can use translocator in East Freeport. (Stay AWAY from the caster guild in West Freeport.)
I can use translocators in Ocean of Tears unmolested by locals.

The alternative is to stake out Brother Qwinn or Brother Zephyl, kill them and hope they have the robe. They are very tough though, but I have seen a level 65 ranger/cleric duo Qwinn.

In order to do this quest here there's probably no way around doing loads of faction work.

Since all Iksars had these issues though back in the good old days when faction still mattered, Verant/SOE introduced some replacement quests for at least Shadowknights, Shamans and Monks who have a hard time getting their "Old World" epics and progressive quests. For Iksar Monks they've put in the Shackles Quest Progession in place of the handbands and the Whistling Fists instead of the Celestial Fists. You may say that the rewards are not quite equivalent, but I think that's been the reasoning when these quests (which are pratically almost Iksar only) were introduced...

hello all im well now a lvl 61 monk i have the robe of the lost circle i did the all qeusts from first headband then i did all the sash qeusts for my self i killed all the mobs my self i was always a higher lvl than the mobs killed but when i camped raster had to wait for a shaman to give up camp granted he was very nervous i was there after reading post ect ect i seen that was wrong of me because if player bieng antsy ect ect and irratable after a long camp but he finally left bout 30 mins after he left and me killing ph.s ect ect raster popped for me almost had him but died cause frog roamer nuked me to death so on cr next morning i met a wizzy told him my misfortune how a frog helped raster and i didnt get pipe raster stoled. so he said ill go with ya and ill deal with the roamer nuker :) after clearing room sure enough here come the wicked frog. wizzy n frog duked it out and when ph;s were killed ect pop!!!! there raster!! thats right he popped twice for me. i killed raster and got the pipe morale of the story is when the game is bugged dont work right we say its broken needs fixed well turn the coin over and look at it from this angle when we have higher othere classes campin raster and he dont pop or we buy purple headbands sashes ect isnt the qeust broken? i mean is the the domino effect stopped because one qeust event didnt proc the next? which eventualy leads up to raster? this qeust for the robe was the most exciting most fun i ever had on eq. my monk is my main i read and re read post. learned all i could. so plse if ur monk is ur main ur epic is day one u started ur monk do all qeusts head bands n sashes. hail all npc involved and when u sit there waiting on raster to pop its not because he has an item u need u have agreed to help the brother monks who have told u the story of item that was stolen from them and that u agreed in text that u would retreive there stuff for them best of luck to ya ...tankai:)

ok so is the click exactly like a bard using it? in the sense that it keep playing until interupted or miss a note? and can you cast on the run like a bard?

It's instant-cast, lasts as long as the bardsong, and is uninterruptable (since it's instant)

You have to click it again to refresh it when it wears out, though. Bards have unique coding in their spellcasting system that allows them to cast while moving and have a "spell" continuously cast until stopped. Their songs themselves do not have those effects necessarily, though.

ok first of all WHY are they puting bard songs on high end monk gear? it aint right and the mentions about fbss stacking with this get a sash of dragonborn more haste and a little ac and fbss is NOT 25% it is in fact 21% schw is 22% sash of DB is somewhere between 26 and 28 and as for human monks well if your going to make a monk make it a iksar regen swiming good starting factions for some rather great quests look better have better vision better naturel saves fineal note curse the softskins! /hiss

I have Whistling Fists as my primary so that basically makes this robe much worse than RotLC so I'll be holdin onto that until the day I get my epic or a Fungi... which ever comes first.

The haste component does not stack with chanter, shaman, or higher bard haste. The str and ac components will be in full effect, though. The presence of an icon does not necessarily signify the presence of a particular effect when dealing with bard songs.
The truth about haste: you get the effect of the best song or spell, the effect of the best item, and any bard stacking hastes, which there are 4. Battle Song/Warcry of the Vah Shir and Melody/Composition of Ervaj. Could also be Ervaj's Lost Composition, but I've never seen a definitive answer on that song, nor anyone who actually has it scribed.

The rundown on the robe.
# Feb 01 2002 at 12:53 PM Rating: Good
First of all if you monks want your epic you must get this robe. It has a righclick spell effect self only and yes it stas with fbss or any other type of perm hast item like silver chitin handwraps, or so on and so on. I also have eye patch of plunder that has a righclick 20% haste. So the run down is, i either have handwraps with robe rigt click , or handwraps with eyepatch right click. Robe and eyepatch wont with handwraps. Its either one or the other with handwraps. Goes the same with chanter or bard hastes. There haste with handwraps , or either my robe or eyepatch with handwraps.

RE: The rundown on the robe.
# May 08 2002 at 4:41 PM Rating: Default
this is a bard song yes.. It's a level 7 bard song.. And ALL Bards songs stack, and this is a 25% Haste (When you level up some) not 16ish

It goes like this

Attack speed bost: 15% + 1% / 4 Levels / (Max 25% Haste)

AC Boost: 5 + 1 / 2 Levels / (Max of 11)

STR Boost 5 + 1 / 2 Levels / (Max of 30?)

I have a bard he can stack it with every other song, So get the iksar side of epic (Whistleing Fist, Right clicks same as this) And Celestial Fists (Get after this robe, Right clicks Bard Song That they never get - Celestial Tranquility, 40% Haste) They will stack But The Hastes Will Not (don't wanna be to overpowering eh!?).. Bards Song's Stack with anything but other Bard Song hastes, Like Encanter's Haste will go with it, So Will Item Hastes like FBSS So you could have, The Robe, Quickness, FBSS They would ALL Stack... And Monks get a Discipline Called 100 Fist Thats a Haste To And it stacks with them but it does not last long kind of a waste when you have InnerFlame at that level If not Prove me wrong... But Good luck if you wanna try.. But you cannot pass the 85% limit unless you have a bard there singing Any Sogn with "Vah Shir" In it.

"Bards Song's Stack with anything but other Bard Song hastes, Like Encanter's Haste will go with it"

*blink*

Um... just because you have two icons up at the same time doesn't mean the songs are stacking with other haste effects. With Bard songs under level 50, you can have one song OR spell haste effect at a time. Half the point to the Vah Shir and Ervaj songs is that they let you stack haste with Enchanter or Shaman spells, unlike earlier songs.

RE: answer the question
# Feb 17 2002 at 1:11 PM Rating: Good
It is possible to get this robe through a multiquest, but you would need to have a very very good friend if they were gonna help you with this, first you need to get the robe of the lost circle, which on an average is maybe 50+ hours of playing time (Targin spawn, average camp maybe 10-15 hours, Raster spawn, very long camp, average maye 40+ hours, heard of 200 hour camps on it, then there is the sash and headband, maybe 4 hours for the purple headband, 2 for the red sash)
and that is just on one of the quest components for this robe, i'm guessing that the two pipes are long camps, at least 5+ hours for the reward of quest...

But if you do have that good of a friend, heres how to multiquest it without you doing any work, first...

Robe of the Lost Circle, easy way to get it, kill brother Zephyl or brother Quinn, just make sure that you (or whoever the monk is) doesn't touch 'em, horrible monk faction, if you want to multiquest it...

Your friend does the headbands and sashes up to purple headband, red sash, and then gives them to you, as they aren't no drop, then your friend goes and camps Targin the Rock for the Book of Zan Fi, once you get that, your friend turns in the book to Qwinn, then you turn your headband into Qwinn (make sure it is in that order) and you will get a Needle of the Void, next your friend goes and camps Raster in lower guk for the idol of zan fi, when he gets that, he turns it in to Brother Zephyl, and you turn your sash into Brother Zephyl (make sure it is in that order) Zephyl wil give you a rare robe pattern, take the have a tailor (fairly high skill) make you a swatch of shadow silk, components are 1 silk swatch, 1 shadow wolf pelt, 1 necromancer spell scroll: gather shadows, then you take the Needle, the Robe pattern, the shadow silk, and a scroll of Jonathans Whistling Warsong (bard song) and combine it in a sewing kit, you got your robe of the lost circle

Now, the multiquest on the Robe of the Whistling Fists,

you have the robe of the lost circle now, have your friend go camp the drolvarg pawbuster in karnors, get the 'A metal pipe' off him (identifies as zan), then have him go get the metal pipe off of an iksar betrayer in chardok (pipe identifies as fi), these are the quest components for the robe of the whistling fists, have a chanter charm brother balatin in dreadlands (he's kos unless charmed), have your friend turn in the two pipes, then you turn in the robe of the lost circle (in that order) and you got yourself the robe of the whistling fists... good luck if you are gonna try that, and pity your friend for all that camping hehe

Nicely laid out, only two comments;

1) I believe they recently nerfed Bro's Z and Q such that the robe is now a rare or very rare drop. Guess too many folks were doing it the easy way <grin>

2) I've only participated in a Bro Z ganking once <pre-nerf> but I recall no faction hits at all, and I was watching for them since I did all my stuff the hard way and built up my faction with both FP and Qeynos.

The stats on effect
# Oct 21 2001 at 2:08 PM Rating: Decent
at lvl 60 this song (effect) gives: 9AC 30%haste and 35str
and at 50(the level to attain) it gives: 8AC 27%haste and 30 str
these are stats according to EQdiva.com

i have fiund some other similar stats and haste could be as low as 25% while AC could be as high as 11AC

maybe it won't clear things up, but it should help...and i'm not in a position to make an actual comment about the item because my monk is currently lvl 2...don't worry...hr'll get up there...someday...

BTW, isn't it feel weird when you playing a warrior till level 30 and most of yer armour weighs 'bout 10stone a peice...and then you start a monk and see peep complaining that they're 1.5st. armour is too heavy, i just got a laugh outta that...tho' i do aggree that 1.5 is prolly a little heavy for a monk

Item or Song/spell?
# Sep 29 2001 at 11:02 PM Rating: Good
The effect on this item counts as spell/song haste. It will stack with a haste item. it will NOT stack with another song/spell haste effect. Test it. type /log on, click the effect, and count attacks in 1 minute (do this in a dual). do it again with an FBSS or whatever haste item you have handy, and then again without the fbss, but with an enchanter haste spell. Then compare the nomber of attacks. put a gls or torch in your off hand so there is no double attacks, and dont use any special attacks, so you get an accurate count.

Oh, and if getting an exta fbss and an enchanter friend to hast you is beyond your resources, you arnt going to be seeing this robe in your inventory any time soon, so dont worry about it yet. Concentrate on items you can get, so that someday, you may be able to get this. And if you dont have a monk, why are you posting here anyway?
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2001 at 12:42 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Bard haste and chanter haste DO stack, at least this line and Wonderous Rapidity Stack, and I was using bard haste with shissar last night on Phin...Now if the bard haste is already in place my Captain Nalot's Quickening will not stack, but if the bard song is down I cast CNQ, then the bard song stacks on top and does not override.
RE: Item or Song/spell?

Bard haste and Enchanter haste stack only in rar einstances when the bard is playing a stackable song (less haste % song, ie Melody of Ervjac, battle cry of the Vah Shir, etc.) The reason they seem to stack is that both buff symbols will by showing, but only the highest haste will be in effect while any other benefits of the lower haste song/spell will still benefit you..
So if you have a chanter 50% haste on and a bard plays one of his normal haste songs you will not gain anymore haste, but you will gain any additional benefits of the song, like agi, ac, str, etc..

How I Use this Robe
# Aug 11 2001 at 2:03 AM Rating: Good
I received my Robe of the Whistling Fists at level 52. I also had Silver Moon Chest Wraps from Plane of Growth that I received from a previous raid. If there is an enchanter giving out Haste buffs at a raid, or an enchanter or bard is in my group, I will wear the Silver Moon BP for the extra stats it gives. If I am in a group where there is no enchanter or bard available to give me haste I will make my own haste by switching to the robe and casting the song haste effect available on it.

How you use this robe is a matter of personal preference, I am just giving an example of how one monk uses it. And if you are questioning whether doing the quest to achieve this robe is worth it, please note that you need to have this robe to complete the monk epic for the Celestial Fists.
