Sadly, due to Verants lack of imagination in creating items, this shield is now quite pathetic, and in fact the entire zone is no longer worth the effort of going there. There is a shield that now drops in Vex Thal that is ac80, +50 to all stats and resists, and has a click effect AND a focus effect. AND can be used by all clases....

I was walking down the street today wondering whether I should fly over to Iraq and be a Human Shield when suddenly I saw this damn mutt across the street darting back and forth at something on the ground. Bored as I was, I went to investigate and saw that the dog was trying to lick some honey cell. It must've destroyed a bee hive or something and took this as its prize. But there were still bees on it. Everytime the dog tried to go back and lick some honey, the bees stung him. This went on for about 5 minutes before I left the moronic mutt. I couldn't think of anything that could be that dumb. You proved me wrong.

this is a great shield. personally i use atm an emerald bastardsword of purity and a fearsome shield. i dropped epic quest after acquiring these 2 items. a 24/24 1hs +40 ac +25 sv disease sword kinda blows away the epic..when paired with this kind of shield. great for clerics..but there are paladin weapons that make this a great item for paladins. i love my fearsome shield but this is a bit better.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 07 2002 at 3:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if this shield ever goes to a war i'll shoot them, their whole guild, then myself...
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 15 2001 at 5:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is funny to read all these people who have never seen the sheild posting about Who should get it. My guild has killed PHara Dar, sheilds have dropped, Who got them? The clerics.
I just don't understand...

What is it about some people that makes them so unwilling to open their minds?

So you've taken out Phara Dar, shields have dropped, and you gave 'em to the clerics. Congratulations, I'll start designing the medal as soon as I'm done typing this post... However, just because that's what you did, doesn't make it gospel, got it?

People (EVERYONE who does it) who say "THIS class needs to get THIS item" or "THESE people should roll on it only" or even "Everyone should roll on anything they can use!" are all missing a big point...

Looting rules/rights are determined by the people taking down said UberCritter_355235. You weren't forced to join the guild you're in, so if you don't like their loot rules, leave. And if you don't like someone elses loot rules, that's your problem.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "RIGHT" SET OF LOOT RULES.

Dangor, don't take this post personally, I'm not flaming you, I just chose your post to vent on. It was the feather that broke the camel's back so to speak.

Oh, and in case people were wondering, if my guild dropped Phara, one of these dropped, you can be damn sure a Cleric would get it, unless they all had something better.

But if your guild wants to only let rogues and monks roll on it, hey, more power to you.

Some FYIs here:

Top SKs use primarily 1h weapons... paladins use either but I believe their best weapons are 2h. Clerics almost always use 1h, epic or no, so a shield is a full-time piece of gear.

If you don't understand the value of AC to a cleric you've never played the high end game... WIS maxxes easily, AC is something you'll always want more. The only things a high end cleric looks for are HP/AC/mana/STA, there's so much WIS on high end cleric gear that clerics doing VP could probably not go below 200 WIS if they tried.

IF this was shaman usable THEN it would be ideal for them as well... I know I'd like a piece of gear like this so our guild shaman could survive slow/malo aggro better... however it's not so it's a moot point.

FYI: Alliliel is a cleric, so obviously SOMEONE feels that this is a great shield for a cleric.
Shield

First of, a paladin/SK going into battle using a 1h should get a reality check. Go get yourself your epic, a 32/36 2hs axe from WW etc and switch to a SBS for bashing only.

As a cleric so do I have atm 222 wis (been slacking on replacing items) but if I go full resist (roughly two and a half bag atm) so will I end up in 170s area in wis so yes, this shield does help clerics more then paladins/SKs who should be using their EPIC 2hs or similar.

Or have all paladins forgotten that they can actually REMOVE their weapon, switch to shield and then back?

your a moron thanks. pal and sk epic are a pain to get so alot of us go 1hs/1hb and a shield. i for one as a paladin use a mace of the fallen crusader and a sbs, or switch out to a weighty polearm (its 2hs dummies) when i want to get hit less. all classes able to use get something out of this except warrior's. war's usely duel wield so no need for a shield unless is back equipable. this gives mana for cleric's/pal's/sk's, ac, HP, and for pal's and sk's they can proc more :) so please think before you talk moron.

Did you have that mace back in Jan 2001 when he wrote that? No. That and the vengeful diamond blade came out with Planes of Power.

I agree with you that now - 2003 - post-POP release - Shadownights and Paladins have great one-handers that allow us to use a shield for more AC and resists without sacrificing damage output. And on my server the mace and polearm can both be had for under 500P and the vengeful diamond blade for around 3Kp.

However, back in 2001 this was not the case and a Paladin using a one hander and a shield was sacrificing a lot of damage output compared to using a 2 hander.

I think its rather a shame that these weapons drop so much that any 30'th level Paladin can afford all three. There's really not much more to look forward to in terms of weapon upgrades until level 55 or so.

Well now I am a Moron too posting this POP weapons stuff under a Kunark shield and replying to some idiot who will probably never come back to this post to read the reply.

In Short - Since POP - Paladins and ShadowKnights now have Great One-Hand weapons and can make great use of shields. The afforementioned Mace of the Fallen Crusader, Plus 4+ DPS from shield bashes will out-damage the Paladin Epic sword and even most of the new POP 2 handers.

I am a role-playing shadowknight in my mid 50's I wield a novaigant blade and a sarnak battle shield... I could use a 2hs? but as a roleplaying knight, i feel I play my part.. the shield is symbolic as a defense guard of innoruuk.

2hs makes me feel like a barbarian.. like conan or something heh. perhaps not a smart move stat wise, perhaps not...

flame me.. prove to me how much better my RL is than yours.... tks

You kidding right. Last time I checked. At least for SK's some of the best weapon ratio's are 1h. Black Rock Maul of Crushing is 1.2 and Ebon Maces are up there too. Also Noctivigant Blades are trully sweet ***** No too sure of the Pally's choices, don't really look at their stuff. All's I know is that Mithaniel Marr kneels before the seething raw hatred that is Innoruuk and his minions...lol just a bit of RPing so no flamez plz.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 26 2001 at 12:07 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) All of you shut the f-u-c-k up. This is good for whatever class can use it. Some people don't have there epics, and others would like something like this you are all a bunch of jackasses its good for clerics especialy, but its not as if the other people cant benifit from it.
Cleric
# Apr 21 2001 at 4:32 AM Rating: Default
Im not sure why no one thinks that a cleric doesnt need a lot of AC? Wisdom is of course the number one stat in order to get mana, but by far AC is the second most important stat. Now that healing has a higher tuant facter than before, clerics get hit more then ever... Therefor higher AC = Lower damage and hopefully keeping your groups cleric alive after getting summoned several times, so that they can keep you (Pally's and SK's.. *cough, cough*) alive till the mobs dead.
RE: Cleric
# Apr 24 2001 at 4:58 AM Rating: Default
My guild would label this as a cleric item easily as it does most high ac shields. First as someone said if your doing VP a majority of your melee are using epics anyway. Secondly just take say Hosk, he tends to notice things like Word of Restoration (like immediatly hehe) and i usually use both aura and barrier in this fight. Clerics don't last long against dragons in VP so every bit of AC and stamina helps especially if divine is interrupted and he isnt gonna let go of ya till your divined or dead. Usually if a second attempt at divine is needed im sitting around a bub or less of health and that dot isnt helping matters so any reduced melee dmg is nice. Summary of a Hosk fight (sure someone has a better method but this one works), Restore, Aura, Kill Aura, Restore, Barrier, Kill Barrier, Restore. If it last longer than that good chance your doing CR. Dead cleric equals no heals and melee stay slowed and all the AC in the world isnt gonna help the tank. Also this shield allows clerics to use blue diamond jewlery for resists with minimal ac and wisdom loss. I don't see how any tank would complain if their cleric is sitting with 950+ ac, close to 200 resistence of whatever breath the dragon your fighting is using and 200+ wis. Cause with that there is good chance their cleric is gonna see the whole fight through.
there only 1 person with this?
# Apr 11 2001 at 6:24 AM Rating: Default
is it true that there is only one person on each server that has this? I play on Zexorbuk or whatever hehe and i know a lvl 60 human cleric that says that, and that phara dar has only been killed once.... are these claims true?
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 14 2001 at 4:50 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Correct me if I am wrong but, Isnt a warriors main role to take or deflect dmg?? Sure they can dish it out but others can do far more dmg. Now each time a warrior needs a heal cleric scores points on mobs hate list and uses mana so wouldnt it make sence for a war to use a 40AC shield so he takes less dmg and has chance to stun further reducing dmg taken..
RE:Warrior
# Mar 20 2001 at 9:56 AM Rating: Default
Any of the three fighters should use this, the clerics can get equally reasonably effective Wis buffers in the off hand and aren't going to use that 40AC anywhere near as much as the other three.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 23 2001 at 8:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why not let clerics decide what they want or need? It´s been already 2 years now that other races have decided what´s best for clerics.
