I can tell u why this is so rare i was out killing wisps on willow wisp island (aka erudins crossing) and i saw this bat with a pet thought it was kinda funny so i killed it and low and be hold a wand that had 3 charges of like spike i said not bad for a newbie so i thought i would kill a few more to give to newbies i waited about 1 hour no bat i was getting bored so i asked one of my high lvl friends and he said that bat spawns every WEEK i said one week u mean eq week right... nope RL week so that is why it is so rare.
I just finshed a short run on Kerra Isle, and I managed to get 4 of these wands in about 20 mins... the vampire bat that drops them seems to be one of the only 2 bats on the island (the most I've ever seen at a time), so if it's not there, just kill the normal ones. The spawns on the island are fairly short (except for the Kerra Snake... only ever seen one and it never respawned).
That cant be right, or they changed the spawn times, because I was just hunting there and got 3 of these wands in the span of two hours. Maybe I was just lucky, but I doubt the bats only spawn once a RL week.
a wizard friend and i were hunting wisps when this thing poped up, we decided to try it, he nuked out the bat while i killed the pet. i slashed the pet once and it died and the bat never even got to hit my friend. after an easy battle like that the bat dropped two! i dont see why these are so rare.
and btw tha vampire bat normally casts close to three spells at once.
For a lower level character, this is a great find. It can save a soloing wawrriors life, since they aren't Lore, and a higher level character can farm them pretty effectively. For my SK, it's a great mana saver, as I just find something green, tap the heck out of it, and go back to soloing. Decreases my downtime quite a bit.
Also, since it drops in places where you're already going to be hunting (Lguk used to be pretty popular, and for older players, it still is), it's really not that bad of an item to drop off a level 8 mob, that you can more than likely 1-hit for the kill. It has to drop something, might as well be this.
I got one of these from a Vampire Bat in Erud's Crossing. It was fairly high level for the bats, around 12th or 13th, and cast necromancer spells. It even had a pet. It has three charges.
