It seems as if there are two items named LARGE RUBY in EQ. I looked into it because I was wondering what can be done with the one I looted from a fish in Rivervale (still don't know...)
Large Ruby - The one described above as LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM is used in a known Quest for enchchanters, necromancers, wizards and magicians. From the comments already given, it evidently comes from Lyunga in Innolthule Swamp.
Large Ruby - There is another Large Ruby that comes from killing a nasty fish very low-level but aggressive fish named Chomper in Rivervale. The description is LORE ITEM. From the postings here, it may be a quest for Halfling Rogue, but there are no further reports. Can't tell if the reference to "Eye of Toque" is for this one or the other.

OK - now more on the Rivervale Large Ruby. It looks as it is part of a quest involving a TORN OLD POUCH (LORE ITEM) also found in the same lake as Chomper and the Ruby he must have swallowed. See this link for that quest:

However, don't even bother reading if you are not willing to give up faction with the Merchants of Rivervale. I am not willing so I havent tested it.

where it says "This Item is used in quests: Hollow Skull". It tells you that it is for something other than wearing in a head slot for 1INT. Sheesh, ya gotta lead some people around by the nosering.
Go to the quest section and look up Hollow Skull and follow the directions. If you dont have a premium membership and you need one to search that way (dont remember what you get without it anymore) spend the money and subscribe. Believe me, it is money WELL spent and costs you less than $1 a week.

I kill the named troll in innothule swamp and i droped it but the price is BS 105pp come one only 1+int and for the head slot i can get better 5+ for like 5ppthey should fix the price on the large ruby and i did find a lare ruby in RV after killing a fish in the pond lore item

yeah i just got the lore non-equipable ruby from the fish in RV. ill see if i can figure oout what its used for.

This ruby is used in a newbie quest for halfling rogues. The woman is on the middle floor of fools gold in a back corner.
When i killed the troll lady and got it she had the pirate faction or she said some about the pirates of gunthak will get you of the likes, well she was a pirate

I killed some named troll in innothule swamp and got this same ruby with the stat and also says it is for head slot. Anyone got any idea what it is for.

Name of the troll is Lynuga, and she is still in Innothule despite the change to gukta. I expect she'll be the bane of froggy n00bs...
I think this item is for a quest in Misty thicket. A guy named something the quickhand i believe has a quest qith it. It is not the same one that drops off fish in rv because that one doesn't have 1 int.
Casted Identify on that thing, Lore info was : Eye of Toque..any info on this would be appreciated. =)

if you really want to kill them fishies in rv for this quest, get a mage or a wizard to AE them all in 1 smack... its not fun if your a melee dude chasing fishies...

it's for the jeweled skull quest
Jewled Skull Quest requires regular rubies, not this one. This may be similar (or the same) as the ruby which drops in Splitpaw Lair. If I remember correctly it is also a head slot item with +1 int. Could possilby be part of the Gnollslayer Sword quest in Qeynos Hills.
Actualy its for a Jewl quest dealing with a skull in WK.

I don't get it. Just carrying this thing in your inventory gives an intelligent bonus? You don't have to equip it? Someone please explain.

It's false you can equip the Large Ruby in head slot

Apparently there are two types of large ruby. I am in possession of one now that is lore, unequippable, and does not have a bonus.

I killed a named fish in RV..Chomper..and rec'd a large ruby that has no bonus and is unequipable
