Wurmy Points
# Jan 10 2002 at 5:05 PM Rating: Good
Most will agree that up to some lvl this is one of the best damage weapon in the game. The question is at what lvl to stop using the wurmy. Or at what lvl will the more frequent aplication of the primary hand str bonus out damage the higher damage rate of the wurmy. Based on DPS (damage per sec) at lvl 58 there are 19 damage/delay combo that will out damage the wrumy that did not out damage it at lvl 25. Most of these weapons are hard to get, and a number of them are nodrop. The most popular of these is the Lam. Again based on DPS the Lam will do slightly more damage than the wurmy at lvl 49. This differance will become noticable at lvl 51.
The Effect of Missing
Some believe that since the damage is so high with the Wurmy that a miss will have a larger inpact than it would with a lower damage fast weapon. The fact is, missing has no more effect one way or the other. Yes the wurm will miss for more (if you will) however the fast weapon will miss more often. A certain percentage of your swings will be misses, and thus the more you swing (with a fast weapon) the more you will miss. Same thing with the crits, dubble attacks and so on. The crits you get with the wurm will be larger but you will get more crits with a Lam. The only exception to this is repote (sp). When you block you opoints hit and score a hit. This will favor the Wurmy, since the frequcncy of this attack if a function of the delay of your opoint.
Effect of Haste
For the most part haste dose not change the DPS ratio between weapons. The exception is that there is a minimun delay of 10. This being the case it is possible to obtain enough haste that the Lam can get no faster and part of the haste effect is wasted, under these conditions the Wurmy can once again out damage the Lam.
In short the wurmy is a weapon usable to the highest lvls, however if you have the means and or the time after lvl 50 you might want to upgrade to a Lam. This is of course dependent on how much haste you can count on day in and day out.

I hate to jump right into the bickering here in this thread, but as a ranger, I have used many weapons, including the wurmslayer. My personal experience as follows. Used the wurm from mid 30s to mid 40s. Decent in the 40s as the slow delay does not cause major taunt for use rangers. Now, the delay really is slow. Yes the damage ratio is sweet, but a couple big whiffs will really hurt your damage output, not to mention the problem if your 1hs is not maxed. After a while, I decided to go for low delay blades.
( now I know this won't apply to most but..)
Several levels later, I win a roll in Kael.
Loot: Silvery Belt of Contention
10ac 4sta 5int 5wis Effect: Haste
Just got this belt last week, so not sure on how much haste it has, but numerous posts have the average at about 28 percent. And I must agree , its damn close. The Contention belt blows the fbss out of the water, if not for the haste alone, the stats, obviously.
A couple days later I am down deep in Karnors Castle, grouped with a pally friend of mine. *Through the levels, my wielding blades had changed to a Lupine dagger , primary
9/18 pierce 4dex 4wis proc: Greater Wolf Form
and
Centi Longsword, offhand
14/27 8str 8sta *

We had a chanter in our group as well, and I asked to try out the Wurmslayer with my Centi offhand. I was curious as to the speed of the wurmy now that I had a good haste belt, and chanter haste.(stamina not a prob..over 100 )
All I can say is f'in A! I had found my new combo. The damage output was constant and brutal.
My love had been rekindled with the wurmy.
To stop raving, all I can say, and listen up peeps- The situation at hand will dictate when to use what weapon. The wurm rather sucks if you have no haste, and to boot if you are working on 1hs. But, if you have a haste item, and have a hasting class in your group it will amaze you. This weap in my opinion is very good for post 45 rangers that want to pump out damage, but want the MT , usually warrior, to hold taunt.
My plan is to alternate between the Wurmslayer and the Lupine dagger, as haste dictates. If we have no haste class in our group, I will keep the Lupine ( 18 delay )in primary. If I have haste spell stackin' with my haste belt, its Wurmslayer time for this ranger. IMHO for post 50 rangers- our goal is to deal out max damage, but allow Main Tank to hold taunt. The Wurmslayer does this, even with a haste stacking on haste item. Most every weap has its place in this game, and I have found the wurms' :P

Nice post, I'm using a wurmy and sarnak skullsplitter. I though about going back to centi ss, but I get too much taunt. Even though lately in Hk i have been MT. Aside from that whenever we have a "real" tank and a chanter in group, with haste I can dish out more damage than the wars sometimes. I look forward to getting a haste belt/item and the belt you have seems to be perfect for rangers. Well thats all. Be safe everyone.

P.S. I am only a 30 ranger so I'm wondering if 56 normal damage with a wurm is normal for 100 str. Any help on that?

Great Post... You are exactly right weapon choice for melee classes is situation dependant. More so maybe even for warriors since weapons are their magic. Make intellgent choices people and use the right tool or the best tool you have at your disposal for the job. Again great post

this i what a have read and figured out, you can correct me if im wrong but you don't have to criticize me.
You weild a lammy in your primary slot because you will be be getting a lot of agro for hitting so fast and getting more hits in with the damage bonus(with a wurmslayer you hit less often so you use the damage bonus less) You weild the wurmy second so that you get better and higher crippling and critical hits.
RE: @##@?!!!
# Jan 04 2002 at 4:20 AM Rating: Decent
You can't wield the Wurmslayer in your Secondary, it's Primary only. It even says so right in the picture. So, if you wanted to use a Lamentation and Wurmslayer, you'd have no choice but to put the Wurmslayer in Primary.

I am a warrior. What should i weild with a Wrumy??? would a Blackend Alloy longsword work?
Or maybe a silvery war axe...?? BAL = 10/29 i think and war axe = 6/22 they are not alot of dmg....u need faster delay in secondary right?

I would say a Wurmslayer/centi LS/SS either one of the centi's are good combo for wurmmy's.. Even though i currently still have a icetooth's claw in my first hand and a centi SS in my offhand, i'm gonna have a wurmmy here really soon, or i may just get a wurmmy for my 38 warrior, BIG CRITICAL HITS!!! but like i said wurmslayer/centi
is a good combo!

I solo my 37 Ranger a lot, so pulling all the attention to me is no factor. I use the Wurmslayer with a Wakisashi of the Frozen Skies, 6/22 with a 81dd proc, as my secondary. I love the combo.

It depends. If you want to work up Dual Weild, then the faster weapon goes in the Secondary slot. Once you get to a point where working up DW is not an issue, your options open up. Have a few weapons in your bag for various situations. With a Wurmy, I'd definately consider a lightweight weapon in secondary if your STA is below 100. The Wurmy will drain your fatigue bar like mad, so be sure you have groupmates who can cast Invigor on you, and be sure to ask for it EVERY time you need it, so that your damage output stays nice and high!

Its pointless to wield this at lower levels. The dmg cap limits it to 21, which is what you can do with a 10 dmg weapon. Get something faster at low levels, you will need that skill to raise, so faster is better. Wait till the dmg caps are gone to pick up your Wurmmy

wtf? your formulas do not agree with the EQ Damage System! IN TRUTH, a wurmy does do more damage over a 1-minute period - at the sacrifice of less stats, more weight, and worse taunting than that of a lammy. The lammy is good for speed and stats. I rest my case.

Alright someone posted some lame formula
with help from people on lotsa servers and some level 60 players info here is how that formula breaks down in real terms some peope in big guilds thought that formula was totaly bogus
With max haste i could muster <enchanter bard and a fbss>
Wurmslayer is 25/15 ish hits for 170 per hitwith good stats
Lamentation 9/10 max possibility at verants "max haste %" i forgot what it was 70 something i think

lets see level 60 war wielding 2 lammies average hit 70 70 70 60 60 60 =390
same war Wurm + shimmerin<17/11 max haste> 170 170 170 130 130 130 = 900
now some hit harder and haste might figure the big weps faster so when someone tells you Lammy is a better overal wep they obvisouly dont truly understand tyhe damage and haste system this was explained to me buy people at the san diego fan faire long while back the techs and creators actualy think its funny we have invented a idea of how the most basic stat based stuff works but o well ignorance is bliss ill go with my heavy weps ive out taunted warriors 10 level above me and higher btw this damage doesnt even figure in crippling blow + damage disc i can already see wurmy flying in damage over the LAME-entation

This thing is great. I just bought one and it has changed my fighting immensely. I routinely hit for 60pts, sometimes higher and sometimes a little lower at LVL 29. With DD that is over 100 pts per swing. I like it as well because you can practice another weapon in your off-hand and still inflicting a lot of damage. It's like a 2HS but in one hand. And the stats buffs don't hurt.

cept a few got this very wrong ok here is why alammy (past lv 43) will kick the licing sht out of a wurmy

everyone gets a dmg bns on there weapon (prim only) this is the bns:
LV-25= n/3=a
so to simplify (using lv 43)
43-25= 18/3=6
lv-25= n/3=a
you understanding me so far? ok good i gope so

so lets take a wurmy in prim. we will use 60 as teh constant (its the sec ina minute) and the dlay with a point as a avariable (cuz delay wqith point is how long it takes to swing in sec). and the dmg as the other one

60/delay X (dmg + dmg bns)= out put dmg in 1 min

so lets use to wurmy vs lammy here

wurmy:
60/4.0 X 31=465 dmg in 1 min (this si justa figure to help everyone understand it better)

Lammy:
60/1.9 X 15=473 dmg in 1 min (and it keep getting better the higher the lv)

if you didnt notice we are using the lv 43 dmg bns. Becuz its the lv where lammy begisn to out dm wurmy

now duel wield is not tied to each other at all ok. if u have lammy in secondary u wont hit for 1.9 with the wurmy u will hit for 4.0 (in secs) ok if u dont belive me ill show u (im on the rathe). if this were true then halbarad's post would be correct but ist not so you are wrong my friend (nothign wrong with it i use to belive the same way till i decided to not lsiten to everyone else and just figure it out myself).

so let me go over the formula agian

Dmg Bns:
LV-25=n/3=dmg bns (or a)
also cna be done
lv-25 /3=dmg bns (but if u have a calc that does NOT total out the previus when / button is hit then u wont get the rigth nswer. those r mainly sicentific ones)

Formula i am using for weapon calculation:
60/delay X (dmg + dmg bns)= dmg output in 1 min

the min you will ever hit with prime will be the dmg + dmg bns (go ahead i know half of you dont belive me try it).

If you can grip that the faster the weapon in prim and the best ratio in secondary then you are doing good.

You can see why if you get a "bonus" on something why not use it mroe often? thast the concept behind this since there is a bns then the faster the weapon the better the dmg.

You can only calc. the prim. dmg with that formula (cuz secndary doesnt get a bns) use this for secondary:
60/delay X dmg= output dmg in 1 min

sigh was alot to type

As a matter of fact this post is ok, if you can get past the spelling. However he/she did make one mistake. The primary hand damage bonus is added after the weapon damage is dubbled. In other words an avg hit with the lam (at lvl 43) would be 18+6 or 24 and the avg hit for the wurm would be 50+6 or 56. This fact chages the lvl at which the Lam will out damage the wurmy. At lvl 49 the Lam will do more damage (in the same amount of time). However the damage diffrence will not really be noticable until lvl 51.

"cryptic" means that something is hard to figure out because it is a puzzle or such, not because of spelling =D

point well taken tho, if a bit nasty in the approach. there is a thing called spellcheck, people! if it isn't available use a dictionary, or ask someone to review your post, before you start giving english majors (like me) a headache!

why not keep this primary (since it is primary only) and keep a lammy in secondary. the ratio on this is better even tho it is slower (a down side) but it has 5 ac (very nice) and 5 magic resist (resist and ac are king) and the 5 str isn't bad. then with the lammy in off-hand you'll still be hitting fast enuf to keep agro and will be doing very nice damage, and the ac and mag resist will keep you from getting hit as much (be it by melee or AoE crap you have to contend with later)

Because, as you may have realized by now, you get no dmg bonus in secondary. Thus, you just want the best ratio you can get (modulo any other factors like effects, stats, etc).

Hey There.
I got something to say about the old Wurmslayer. On my server, Eci, it sells in EC for 'round 2.5kpp (low) to 3kpp (average). 25/40, 1hs?!!! C'mon - this weapon rocks for us melees!
I am a 46 ranger. I use a CSS in offand. My only problem in groups is aggro, muhahaha...I barely get the chance to use my taunt skill anymore with thi combo, only when some silly tank breaks mez to soon and I got to scrape the mob off the chanter. My damage output is very satisfying with this combo. Add celerity,- heck any form of haste and yer stylin. This is my only character... so i am sure there are even better combos out there that are more impressive, but my plan eventually is once i get my AC above its present 851... I am gonna do all it takes to get a VSB (velium swiftblade)...way better haste than a fbss....and watch the heads a roll ;)
Well, hope this helps. Later.

Ok... wurmy is primary only... but it bring an interesting question to my mind...

If I got a fast weap in primary and slow in secondary, would my slow (offhand) hit as fast as my primary (fast)...?

or if I got a slow weapon in offhand... would the dual-weld check be done less often because of the difference between the two weapons?

So... what to do... both weapon with delay close one to the other, slower in primary or slower in secondary?

Dual Wield checks are done independently, from posts I've seen and others I've talked with. You want the Fastest weapon possible in your main hand, as you get a damage bonus based on level and class, which improves the effective ratio, and in your offhand you want the weapon with the best ratio, as there is no damage bonus to make a faster hit more desirable.

Unfortunately, in my case, this means the wurmy would go best in Secondary, although its Prim only. I use a Lamentation right now, which has a nice ratio, but 1.6 on the wurmy is the best non-epic, non-raid level 1 handed weapons ratio I've seen. When all is said and done, this would kill as a secondary weapon, if it were available as such. Not that its chopped liver in Primary, however. >:)
RE: Delay...

From all I know and heard, the slow(er) goes in primary, the fast(er) in secondary.

Let me try an example (please me correct me when I say something wrong)

Weapon Combination:
Wurmslayer (aka Staminaslayer): 25/40
Lamentation: 9/19

With the Wurmslayer in the primary, your Lamentation in secondary could swing every 1.9 seconds, so a dual wield check is done every 1.9 seconds.

If you had the Wurmslayer in the secondary (only for the example, I know it is primary only ;), the dual wield check would tak place every 4 seconds.

Knowing that not every dual wield check is successful, a primary swing though always takes place (even when you miss, you swing), the more chances you get for a dual wield check, the more often you will succeed.

So, the faster weapon in secondary is the better, if not the only choice.

RE: Delay...
# Dec 26 2001 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
Dual wield checks are done indepedent from the primary weapons delay. If you used that combo (wurmslayer primary, lammy secondary) you would notice that your off hand would be swinging 2-4 times before you swung the wurmslayer(assuming you successfully dual wielded and/or double attacked) You put the fastest weapon in primary because 51+ is when you get a huge primary hand damage bonus and that affects the amount of damage you do. Wurmslayer is hands down the best weapon to use.. pre-50.
