The Great Misunderstanding
# May 23 2002 at 4:46 PM Rating: Excellent
There seems to be a great misunderstanding in EQ concerning agro. That is: the number of touches determain agro. Number of touches is only one of the factors in determaining who holds agro. And a minor factor at that. Far more important in determaining who holds agro is damage. Nine times out of ten he who does the most damage holds agro. Therefor if you want to hold agro you need to maximize damage. This is why the mob turns on the rogue after that high damage backstab, or on the wiz after that high damage nuke.

So you might ask,if damage is more inportant that number of touches why do so many people believe that they need to use fast weapons in the primary? That is easy. At high lvl you have a high damage bonus. This bonus for one hand weapons is only a function of your lvl and not the delay of the weapon. Therefor with a fast weapon you hit more often with your damage bonus, and thus do more damage. So yes at high lvl you want a fast weapon in your primary hand.

The question is at what lvl will the fast weapon out damage a slow weapon that has a better ratio (dose more damage without the bonus added in). Well this is a function of the weapons being compaired. However since we are in the Wurmy Post I'll just talk about when the wurmy.

Very few weapons with a higher ratio than the wurmy will out damage it before the mid 40's. Most weapons will not out damage the wurmy until after lvl 50. Many weapons that are faster than the wurmy will never out damage it. The centi longsword is one of them.

The one draw back to using the wurmy at lower lvls is the fact that it slows down your skill development.

From lvl 20 to lvl 50 the wurmy is still one of the best weapons in the game.

I am a lvl 19 hef warrior with over 100str,sta, dex and i am considering buying my first decent 1hs weapon. My problem is whether to buy a centi ls or a wurmslayer. Both are great weapons but I don't know which would be better for my lvl. I am currently using a berserkers sword in primary and a blackened alloy longsword in the offhand. I will continue using at least one of these till i can save up more pp. Please give me some advice which would be better for me to get at my lvl. Please use this information viewing me as a soon to be lvl 20 and by the way I am no twink, not that there is anything wrong with that but i have earned my cash with minimal help. Thanks!

i am a lvl 20 war with str 120 stam 105 and dex 105 and i just got my first wurmslayer and i am hitting for around 60 consistantly i must say for the price of it (i spent 1k ) it is the best wep i have seen besides the epics.i am so excited with it that i find myself taking on yellow cons and winning rather easily i would have to say this is my fav wep so far i would suggest any class that can use it to get one.I am now looking for a good secondary wep if u know of one please send me a tell in game under ludamill.

All about looks and preferences, My Barb Warrior(lvl 28) did a 212 dmg crip with this bad boy! (a 192 dmg crip hit 10 min before)If ye want to see hits like that go for the wurmmy! Look at ratio and dmg, plus the situation ye group be in. Are you the main tank? If yes, go with fast delay weapons (lammy,ect..) to hold aggro and maximize yer taunting. If not, weild this babby and one of them Centi's (LS or SS) and truely assist the Main Tank and kick butt(also, solo'ing with them works as well)! (If ye can get haste the better ye be!). However, go with what ye like, expiriment a lot and find what works best for you.

I'm sure some will disagree with me, but I say, leave the Wurmy alone. It's slow, and will not generate as much taunt as a centi, or even better, a lammy. As a warrior, your primary concern is taunt, and then damage secondary (unless you are soloing, then use wurmy).

Also, since you say you're untwinked, I'd suggest going with the centi shortsword, and spending the rest of your money on armor upgrades, or better ac/hp jewelry. Your cleric will appreciate it, and the difference in damage is minimal.

Amen. Kasulak is rite, that weap rocks. It should be 2-3k again. Luclin f***ed up the enconomy. The centi Ls+SS are great, i currently use the SS, but thats part of the reason the price went down.

WTF!!!! Wurmslayer is now goin for 800-1kpp on most servers. Blah blah about the stamina-slayer crap its a one hand slashing weapon thats DAMAGE 25!!!!!! In my opinion this should be goin for at least 3k.

Yeah, and while we're at it, the Shiny Brass Halberd should be 500pp again. Damn kunark screwed that price up. And those Langseax should be over 100pp, if it wasn't for all that kunark and velious stuff.

/sarcasm off

Every time a new expansion come out, it lowers the prices of some of the No-longer-so-uber weapons. Wurmy is a nice weapon, and used to be the ONLY good choice for most mid levels. Luclin added a bunch of new stuff, like it was supposed to, and now the old stuff sells for less. Wait til PoP comes out, and all the luclin stuff starts dropping. It's already so cheap its amazing. The centi warhammers sell for 250pp on my server. ratio close to 2, for 250pp. Insane? I paid that for my first wraith bone hammer. ut, like all older weapons, those now sell for 50pp or so.
RE: WTF?
# Jul 22 2002 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
What you people don't seem to understand, is that there is an infinite supply and a finite demand. Go back to school and take economics. Most of you Everquest players are uneducated fools anyway so I don't guess the concepts of supply and demand mean much to you. Price will be directly related to the number of the item and the number demanded by the player base. When the game is new, there is a relatively small supply and so demand is high: people pay more. Use your logic and figure out what happens when supply is high. Thank you, and please read a book.

What should i use
# Apr 30 2002 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
I have a lv 23 warrior without any haste, if i have a shimmering partisan(17dmg, 39 del +10str +20dex +10sv fire and cold)in my primary, would a centi LS be a good offhand? Or should i use the partisan in my secondary and a Wurmslayer in my primary. Or mix n' match, What would be the best without haste and which would be the best with haste? Tell me what you think.
RE: What should i use
# May 05 2002 at 8:53 PM Rating: Good
Now I'm a cleric but I've talked to a lot of warriors... from what I've heard you want low delay (above everything else) in primary, and then go for stats and ratio in secondary. So if you have shimmering partisan, stick that in off hand (secd) and then put the lower delay (27 if I'm not mistaken) centi LS in prim hand. Anyway I think one of the best affordable weapon combinations would be lamentation (9/19 6 str 6 sta 20 or 25 hp) or defiance (9/19 6 str 8 dex 10 ac) in primary hand and a centi ls (14/27 8 str 8 sta) in off hand. Please don't flame me if I'm wrong on any of this (which I probably am), thanks.

Your advice is dead on. If you don't play a melee class, congrats on being well informed. Id keep the partisan for offhand, and use a lammy or jade mace for primary, although either a centi LS or SS would be ok, if you can't afford the others. 39 dly weapon is too slow for primary for a warrior, especially with over 200 strength (since strength increases damage per hit, the more often you hit, the better).

It realy depends on your class. If you are a warrior, then you would want to hold aggro so I would recommend the Lammy/Centi SS combo. But if you are a ranger, you wouldn't want all that aggro unless your are the MA of the group. So, in most cases, I would recommend that a Ranger use the Wurmslayer/Centi SS combo and just keep Zing memmed.

A Wurmmy/Lammy combo is okay, but you won't really be taking the speed advantage of a Lammy in your offhand.

I had stopped playing EQ for a while, but the addiction has brought me back again. Anyway, I have always loved the Wurmslayer, and when i last played i couldnt afford the 2-3k to buy it. A friend tells me(he plays on Bristlebane) that the price of the wurmy is now about 500pp. Is he right? please say yes, lol.

Yea that sounds about right it goes from 800pp to 1kpp nowadays on Solusek Ro. hehe I hope you can afford one now man I used to love mine back along time ago.
P.S. - lol btw i always quit EQ and come back i actually just did come back last week after about six months and all this new Luclin stuff scares me.
I Love My Big Goofystick

I finally tracked down that squirt Fuzzmin and got my Wurmy, all I can say is that I *love* this weapon. I hear alot of people complain that its "too slow" or a "stamina drainer", but there are no complaints from this Ranger.

As long as I keep my Zing memmed and ready, I have no problems with dual wielding this with my Centi Longsword. I can't wait until I can afford an FBSS, oh the damage I will deal...

Anyone who says that to you is just repeating what they have heard someone else say, whithout understanding it.

For a RANGER, or other secondary melee, Wurmy is perfect, big damage, low taunt, and anyone who can't get a melee's stamina over 100, should get some different gear, or reroll their character.

For a WARRIOR, the comments you heard are dead on. The same thing that makes it good for you, primarily that it doesn't generate a lot of taunt, makes it bad for them. As someone who's main is a cleric, I can assure you that I would prefer that the MOBs stay on the warrior, not on the ranger, because rezzes take a lot of mana :p
RE: I Love My Big Goofystick
# May 07 2002 at 10:04 AM Rating: Decent
This is what I hear and have done no tests myself, but as for this being a STA drainer, who cares. If you have over 100 STA then all that happens when you STA bar is empty is you can't jump. It doesn't affect swing times at all. Only jumps. So if you have over 100 STA get one of these and swing it until your arm hurts.

Just a thought but if you'd spent 6 months leveling instead of questing you could have high enough in levels to have a lot more cash than this thing sells for. I wouldnt dream of telling you how to play the game but if theres a choice between doing what your doing (requesting the same item for what is only a small amout of cash) or leveling and finding new stuff out there I would go for exploring. I like quests myself - ive spent many hours on the moon for the bane warding shield which is worth in the region of 30k should I ever choose to sell and/or re-quest it which is a fair chunk of cash. But to make a few hundred pp a time from the stein quest seems like the hard way to do things to me.

Wurmy is none to shabby - when I was in my 30's and having a lvl 10ish alt warrior i thought a ssoy and a wurmy were awesome watching people hit so hard with them. I would look at the stuff from luclin (Centi longsword in particular) good stats and dmg/dly ratio for around the same price on saryrn. I even picked up a centi ss for 250pp which is pretty good for that kinda money.
worth it?

# Mar 21 2002 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
With dual weld, double attack, and haste, man, You'd kill! I know I am! And I'm just a little ol' ranger! hahahahahahaha!!!!!

Seriously. I can hit for a max of 101dmg per hit, and I can hit up to 7 times per attack (or per tick, if you like, thanks to dual weld and double attack) for a max of 707dmg per attack. Now that's the max. on average, I hit for ~200dmg per attack on average. You tell me if that's good or not. If you were to put a procting weapon in you off hand, and have several haste items, you're golden!

Several haste items? why would that matter. haste item effects don't stack. You would only get the effect of the best haste item.

Plus, if you are hitting for 101 damage with wurmy, 51 of that is strength and level bonuses.

So with the time it takes to swing wurmy twice (assuming you get a successful double attack), you could swing a lammy 4 times. With the same bonus, of 51 per swing, the lammy would do max damage of 69 per hit. So thats 202 possible damage with wurmy, and 276 with lammy. See the difference?

well considering i landed a Crippling Blow(215) with my Blackened Alloy ******* Sword (24 DMG 2HS, and i hit as high as in the lower 70s normal with it (lvl 29 warrior). I can see that having this duel wielded can dish out a fair amount of regular damage, as well as topple some mighty foes when you do hit those special hard attacks.

to wield or not to wield
# Feb 21 2002 at 3:07 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I am in Rathe Mountain ATM in search of some funds for a better weapon. I get about 500pp which isn't much for being there. I then head to the bank in neriak to grab one of my SSOY's (short sword of the ykesha). My intention was to sell the ssoy and gain enough (about 1k) for a semi decent weapon. You know how EC goes - very slow and boring. No one is buying the ssoy! /pout Maybe because of the influx of "better" weapons from luclin and I use the term better lightly, or; maybe just no one is buying. Anyhoo, I see a shout "WTS Wurm slayer" and I pounce. I hope the guy will take a trade as I have yet to sell it. I offer the 500pp and the ssoy and TADA.....He accepts. /cheer

NOW, my problem for being the DEF warrior that I am is: was it worth it? Short answer yes, long answer No with a but. 15wt for a 1hs is as we all know a stamina slayer. Yes the dmg/dly is great but dly alone for the 1hs arena is terrible. I have in my off hand a centi SS and thought that in my primary was great. I guess I'll have to wait to really use it when I get a haste item. Otherwise I love this thing and have already used it against the very thing I had originally got the pp from to buy it. All I have to say is ouch!

get your stamina over 100 and all you`ll be concerned about with this wep is that its slow. of course, its like having a 2hs, but with the ability to weild another 1 hander hehe. anyway if your STA is over 100 you experience nothing when you lose all your STA save that you cant jump

for higher lvls that use a wurmslayer they should wield a velium swiftblade. the swiftblade has a 40% haste so with the wurmslayer that makes it 25dmg 24 dly, which is very good heh. thats what im doing.

Um, I doubt that he is saying to wield the VS exlusively...note he is showing how the haste affects the Wurmslayer. Dual Wield. :)
RE: 25/24 is good
# Mar 22 2002 at 8:26 AM Rating: Decent
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a 40% haste make the Wurmie 25/32? Anyway, here's how my math went. You are hasted by 40%. That would take 20% off the delay. 20% of 40 is 8. So, that would drop the delay down to 32, not 24. All this based on the fact that if you are hasted 100% you hit twice as fast. So, that would cut the delay in half (50% less delay). Just my thoughts as usual. :)

I did have the Wurmy/ Centi LS combo
# Jan 27 2002 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
As a 30 Level Ranger with 151 Strength and 99 Stamina, I still had to rest after every fight because my stamina would be gone. The Wurmy at 15 pounds and Centi LS at 6 pounds began to become too much.

I was fortunate enough to trade my Wurmy for a Large Dragonbone Shard ( https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5547 ) which at 2.0 DPS Ratio is not near as good as Wurmy's 1.6 but I can fight forever now.

Whether or not the Large Dragonbone Shard actually increases attack speed and run speed, I am not the person to ask. Again, I came from a Wurmy so nearly anything is faster.

Damage output alone with Wurmy and Centi LS was quite nice because I could land 50, 50, 30, 30. Now I just land 30, 30, 30, 30 but I like the constant swinging.

If you had just raised your stamina one more point, it wouldn't have mattered if you ran out. If stamina is over 100, you still fight the same when stamina runs out, just can't jump.
