since paladins and sk's can't dual wield, this would be a nice item for them. they can keep the taunt on them with spells (fol root stun) (dots steal str lifetaps). and this way, they not only can bash, but can alos do some major damge =D a very nice weapon if you ask me
It doesnt SUCK

Ok people that say a Lammy is better NO @#$% SHERLOCK, Lammies are like 9k right now on Terris Thule and Wurmmies are like 3k, so for my lvl 28 warrior a Wurmmy isn't that bad. I will try to save up for a lammy but still man its a nice weap for the 3k range.
this doesn't suck
# Jul 29 2001 at 1:02 AM Rating: Decent
Bah, this thing doesn't suck at all. Sure there's alot of better stuff out there (I agree with the guy about the MoSS) but this thing is for classes that can dual wield. Sure people would take other things above this, but for a ranger, warrior or bard, this thing fricking rocks

Im a monk at heart and at 42 i had to sell my Cane of tranquil for a Fighting baton with the damage bonus it will do more damage.
It kind of does.

I'm not trying to flame or anything.
Wurmslayer is horrible for a 40+ warrior because of its delay.
You might say "But Riceplz, what about the 25 damage?"
I would answer "Well Jimmy, It is how fast you hit a MOB that determines if you keep aggro or not."
You might ask again "But Riceplz, Won't i be dealing more damage with this than a warrior with oh say, a Lamentation?"
I would again answer "Hell no Jimmy. Hell no."
40+ it becomes a warriors duty to KEEP aggro. Not just hold it for 3 or 4 rounds, then it run off and kill the enchanter/cleric. The ENTIRE battle.
At 40 primary hand bonus is like... 5 or 6 i think. This would add up much much faster with a low delay weapon (20># delay).
Some of you may ask "But Riceplz, I don't quite understand."
Ok i will explain it to you.
This is what a round with a wurmslayer and a... Yak (Because people just love using both of these for some unknown reason.)
You slash Target for 33 points of damage! (yak)
You slash Target for 28 points of damage! (yak)
You slash Target for 75 points of damage! (ws)
You slash Target for 84 points of damage! (ws)
You slash Target for 32 points of damage! (yak)
You slash Target for 18 points of damage! (yak)
Sounds nice so far eh? That is 1 attack round of a wurmslayer.
Now let us compare this to my current weapon setup. (Lamentation 9/19, Frostbringer 12/22)
This is the same amount of time that it takes for a round of wurmslayerness
You slash Target for 38 points of damage! (lam)
You slash Target for 42 points of damage! (lam)
You slash Target for 28 points of damage! (fb)
You slash Target for 33 points of damage! (fb)
You slash Target for 13 points of damage! (lam)
You slash Target for 39 points of damage! (lam)
You slash Target for 44 points of damage! (fb)
You slash Target for 29 points of damage! (fb)
Frostbringer would probably proc = 60 damage ac/hp debuff.
The Wurmslayer/yak combo MIGHT end up doing more damage. But that is not what matters.
How fast you hit the mob is how it decides who to hit.
I figured this out when i was taunting off entire groups of 50+s with 2 fine steel daggers and haste. Even though i would quad every second for like 5-9 i would still keep the mob on me.
But for levels 20-35, this weapon is allright because mobs cant outright kill casters then. But after level 40 you need to keep aggro so your caster doesn't explode when mobs jump on you.
Flame if you wish, i enjoy responding to idiots that know nothing of the game.

Low delay weapons are also better at high level encounters because against a mob higher than level 60 you end up hitting for the minimum (1) ALOT. So for a mob like that take your damage and reduce it to one, and you are left with delay. This make the Lammy 1/19 vs. the Wurmslayer 1/40. Food for thought.
RE: It kind of does.

If you are the main tank in a multigroup raid, this isn't the best weapon choice, because it will be difficult to keep aggro. If you are one of the 5-10 other melee classes on the raid, this wouldn't be a bad weapon to use. In most of the high level raids, you want to keep all the aggro on a single tank to save the clerics a lot of mana. This weapon deals a lot of damage without drawing a lot of aggro, which is ideal for everyone other than the main tank. In the example damages given, the WS/Yak does 4 more damage with 2 fewer attacks. This is great for the melee classes who aren't supposed to draw aggro. So, it might be useful to keep this in your packs if you aren't the main tank for the raid.

/agree if im not main tank i use WS and Lammie in off hand, and still get knocked around some with CH or Blows of almost 400. If im main no way would i use this, also its a good weapon if your solo kiting using a weighted axe, and have j or t boots. i love kiting FGs in GD till their down to a little under 50% then laying them out with WS and Lammie, only do this while waiting for group:)

I think that there are pro's and con's to both sides of your argument for the Wurmie not being the best weapon for post-40's Warriors.

Being a Ranger myself, I use the Wurm- as a way to deal significant damage in a fight without neccessarily drawing all the agro to myself, and yet be able to achieve the top agro spot with a quickness if the situation requires it. While it is possible for the warrior to hold the top agro spot with a Ws/Yak combo, it requires quite a bit of agro management on the part of the other party members, too. IE, no CH's, Ice Comet-type spells, etc. If you have two lower delay, proc'ing weapons it does make it easier for the warrior to achieve a lock on the MoB's hate list. Believe me, as a Ranger, I KNOW! ;) In a serious fight, low delay, proc weapons get me the top spot every time without even using my taunt or spells.

However, for a 40+ Ranger or perhaps Bard, Ws/(proc'ing weapon) works beautifully. Not quite enough agro (although the bard might wanna watch what songs he sings, depending on how bad they add to agro) to get noticed and NICE 100+ capable damage without crits. My average damage/sec has definitely taking an uphill climb since I picked it up.

So there you have it from a Ranger's perspective. hope it helps you decide if it is right for you. It certainly is for me!

not gonna say it sucks, just posting what ive heard about the low dly theory and waht i observerd with the weapon and my war.
From what i understand the attraction of low dly is the dmg bonus you get, im not sure how it works exatly but with an ibc (7dmg) my war hits for high 20's and into 30s for dmg, thats 5x of the dmg on the weapon, with a WS i hit for around 65-80 ish thats only 3x dmg on the weapon, same with crits i would get crits in the 50's thats near 8x the dmg on the ibc you do not get crits for 200 with ws, at least not at the lvl of my character, who is an ogre just about to reach 20, so even though you take less dmg per chunk you will take more dmg over all with a low dly/dmg good ratio than with a high dmg/dly. the difference is even more apparent as you get to higher lvls. With the ibc that dosent have as good of a ratio i do about the same dmg as a WS, i hit with theibc 2.22 times for every 1ws 1 ws hit is 75 ish 2.22 ibc hits is 75 ish also since im hitting more ill build more agro and also interrupt more spells. As i go up the ibc will match and then surpass the WS in dmg/per time even though it's ratio isnt as good.

however as ive posted before as a range the item is the best for the pp with the stats it has.

just my understanding, if im wrong on something we all misunderstand things but you can see the dmg ammounts with your chars and see that you hit for a higher multiple of a lower dmg weapon than a higher one and see that my theory is true.
RE: It kind of does.
# Jul 30 2001 at 9:55 AM Rating: Good

Err...unless I am missing something...just use the Lammy and wurmy. According to your damage output, you would then have a HUGO agro!:)

IMHO, forget about the free hp/ac buff (that MIGHT proc) on one of your weapons. Let a druid/shammy/cleric handly that. If speed is a issue, group with a shammy/chanter. They can provide the speed.

Good luck out there.

Duh, C'mon even at lvl 17 I know speed is the key to victory. Low Delay with Decent dmg means victory. Old news people.

Well, once you get past level 20 and your damage cap comes off you'll see a nice pick-up in the usefulness of high damage high delay weapons.

At level 17 a Wurmslayer would suck, but at level 20 its awesome.

this has a better damage rating than the ghoulbane but the delay sucks. freaking 2hs swords are almost faster than this thing and the wieght sucks really bad. i'll take a rusty dagger over this any day. paladins if you get this and say its better than ghoulbane then please for me delete your paladin.

WS can be used in range slot? nifty nifty never knew that, if all the stats still show up when used in range slot 5 ac 5 str 5 sv magic range item is sick since it only costs around 4k , ac is awesome str is great and saves are always good for the stat points, i have a warrior made, and have a 53 druid i probably wont use it as my primary weapon but as a range the only thing i can think of is an idol if hte thorned which is a - lil - bit harder to get/more expensive :Op

Good and bad of it
# Jul 17 2001 at 12:21 AM Rating: Default
Wurmslayer has its good and bad points it seems to me it is best as the secondary tanks weapon as it helps keep agro down. However a miss with it on its big delay hurts more than a miss with a quicker weapon. So Id say its better on a hybrid as they tend to us alternate means to taunt other than fireing off lots of attacks to build up hate, and many times they wish to avoid building up exess hate.
# Jul 11 2001 at 12:54 PM Rating: Default
is this a good shadowknight weapon?
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 27 2001 at 7:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) first of all i want to adress the "ultimate fighter: shadowknight" thing. i may not be an expert but dont shadowknights have sucky AC? i was grouped with a SK in CB and it seemed i ALWAYS had to pull his **** out o' the fire. once i used my LoH on him only to have him pull Dvinn and get us all killed.anywho i belive paladins are better than SKs. later.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 25 2001 at 12:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You don't THROW a ranged slot item! That would be the ammo slot
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 27 2001 at 6:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Go get a stack of shurikens and tell us again that you can't throw from your ranged slot. Or better yet put a Wurmslayer in your ranged slot and try to throw it. Let us know how it goes.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 22 2001 at 7:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Can someone please tell me if the WS was ever equipable in the range slot? The graphic of course sayes primary. Personally I like the idea of picking up 5ac 5str and 5mag from teh range slot under certian circumstances and was planning to buy one for those occasions. However I was speaking to a friend about the idea and he let me know that his WS did not euip in his range slot. I was wondering if it ever did and they changed it or if the above is just in error?
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 24 2001 at 2:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) true it would be cool but still it would really suck if you accidently threw it ;P
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 10:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) the SK giving the strat against pallies as a sk, dont root the sk, root the pet. only spell worth casting on sk is stun, not blind or root but pet cant break root. Darkness is the big problem spell but it cant kill by itself, neither can any sk dot we can heal until yr oom

The Reality of WS
# Jun 19 2001 at 8:57 AM Rating: Default
For me the reality of the Wurmslayer was not realized until I got my FBSS. You snap the 21% delay off of a 10/22 you get yourself a 10/17.38 very respectable and with SoS "Train" of fire. When you snap that 21% delay of the Wurmslayer, you have a 25/31.6 plus 5 strength and 5 AC. The percent haste of the FBSS brings the lower delay deminishing returns to light. Do you want to snip off 4.6 delay and be great or snip off 8.4 delay and be godly. Until you start picking up the Uber no drops in the high level hell dungeons I think main hand Wurmslayer (if you have FBSS) is your best bet against melee mobs. I still use my Sword of Skyfire to bust up casters so long as we dont have a charmer/mezzer in the party where the rain of fire will smoke you.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 16 2001 at 4:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 21% haste does not reduce dely by 21%, it incressed dmg over time, for example(using fake numbers) if your weapon did 1000dmg over 1 min with 21%haste you would do 1210 dmg over 1 min.

thanx for some of the most useless drivel ever encountered in my search for some info on this weapon

this is a damn fine weapon for a tank once the damage cap is lifted until 50+ when you need lots of fast hits to keep the mobs hate up

also if you have over 100 stamina you do not suffer any ill effects for running out your yellow bar. my oggie can use this non-stop with no stamina and suffer no penatlies. doubles for 90 damage at level 30 are a joy to behold.

have a nice ration weapon in the off hand and you are in busiess
