We Rangers seek to protect the Forests and their creatures, which is why we must destroy Forest Giants. Their careless, drunken wandering harms many trees and grass because they seem averse to using paths.
To serve Karana I have spent time killing about 25 of these insensitive behemoths and have yet to see one of these "common" items. I have gotten a "rare" Forest Loop already, but not this weapon. I know I can't use it, but let's face it, one does get tired of foraging for food, and we enjoy Dragon Steaks and Ale as much as the next class. Rest assured there are plenty of newbie Warriors out there that will help me turn this cold steel into shiny platinum in short order.
So should I ever come across this thing, I will be running to the Bazaar straight away, then to Shadowhaven.

I had my 51 Druid in the DL's and saw this giant(conned green to me). It had the most awesome looking weapon in its hands so I just had to kill it. The stats are very poor but it did look extremely impressive in the giants hands. Sold it to a merchant for 42 pp. With over 4 lvl's (3 of them AA) in the DL's this is the first time I have seen this in one of their hands.
No newbie warrior who understands the game would buy this. Its merchant fodder. And they drop fairly commonly in DL.I usually see one or two minimum in a good grind session. It will be visible if he's wielding it.
I was cruising thru old posts and found this one and had to laugh at myself. Xaanru is entirely correct that this is merchant fodder. I occasionally go to FM for old times sake and train 90% of the giants in the fort and drop their corpses in a nice line to the main entrance. The giants repop at a prodigous rate now and I have had to let as many as 3 rot in a couple of hours because they are lore. But I always make at least 500pp an hour selling drops to merchants (caps, axes, tunics) but very very rarely see the loop drop any more.
Funny how time and experience changes your perspective on things.
Re: The last 2 replies. No, it is not the best of weapons, Yes it does look cool, No not all newbs and even some experienced ppl understand this game. Never underestimate the importance of looking good.
Drops may vary across servers and patches may also have affected these percentages over time, so I will clarify a little. On Povar, I have now killed now about 40 Giants in their fort and have yet to see the leg-chopper. The info on this site is all anecdotal (as far as I know) since it is all built on player input, not on a feed from Sony, which would update the Rarity value if it has changed.
So, my non-foraging, anally-retentive friend (1st reply), please re-read the post and see that the only thing I am really saying is that a Rarity value of "Common" does not seem correct any more (at least on Povar). The rest was just having fun belittling giants and acquiring cash to have a decent meal. RPG = Role Playing Game, and I am playing a role, otherwise I would likely wring your pale and pimply neck for posting condescending messages inferring that nothing less than uber-gear is acceptable.
Wow, the vitriole in your post is astounding. Perhaps you should see someone about your anger management problems.
I'm baffled by why you think MY post was in any way negative in tone. The problem is, this weapon is not "less than uber" It is HORRIBLE.
A ratio of 4.2 on a 2hand weapon is so awful, that it would be a gross disservice to anyone to even GIVE them one to use.
There are PLENTY of decent weapons for new players to use, such as the axe of the iron back (17damage, 37 delay)usually available for under 20pp), Blackened alloy ******* sword (24dmg 39 dly) under 50pp. Even the quest weapons given by most of the trainers in the starting cities have MUCH better ratios than this sword.
Since this sword sells to NPC merchants for more than it would POSSIBLY sell for to a player, unless you don't mind ripping off the uninformed, It is merchant fodder. Plain and simple.
As for killing 40 giants and not getting one, all I can say is that one individual's fairly short run of bad luck doesn't equate a rare item.
When 30 or 40 of them drop every day in one zone (DL), I wouldn't call it anything but common. If they were rare, they wouldn't be in nearly every NPC merchant's inventory.
As to your last comment, I can only laugh at someone who makes anonymous threats. Particularly since you have no clue to whom it is your are making them.
No sorry I have to back him up. I am pricing mine right now in Baz to trade bag seller and can get 40P. Going to Cha up later and get a little more. Strange...
...and another, I sell these for 38pp to vendors in PoK (strangely they give me better cash than warmly regarding vendors at home). I have also levelled my SK from 26 to 30 in Warslik's Woods for the past four days, and have seen one or two drop every four hours with only myself cleanin up fort. Figure two of these drop for every one tree-flayer or axe of flattening(both also crap)...
Ok how about this. Im in FM and everybody in my group already has one or just doestn want the extra weight. So i pick one up and have the warrior hold it for. Then another one drops 3 kills later. THESE THINGS ARE EVERYWHERE! oh well got 20pp easily sellin in zone and got the 35pp from vendor. Nice item for sellin to vendors. Im just to dang lazy to go to vendors and back. and it is supposed to say IS comon.
Diadin Talonclaw 27 season drunken master Balefire Clan Tarrew Marr server
If u NEED to get that extra 32 or 50pp at leve 42 and up , then sell it, I prefer to goto the EC tunnel and Sponser a newbie Gladiator tournament!! Send a tell out and peeps of same levels who want it will come, set down some rules,( i prefer no holes barred, buffing by spectators etc) and give the newbie winner the weapon. Its worth it to me to see that i sponseed a deathmatch for nothing more than my own entertainment, im sick that way!!! Anyway this is just what I do and i dont feel the least bit guilty about it!! Of course you may get the crying basterd newbie WHO THINKS he should get something anyway but ***** them!!!Not to say that newbies deserve nothing, just make them earn it its your 30-50pp , make them earn it. Soo SICK of getting begs and "hey you got any items in your bank, pack, person etc... you dont really want?" At level 41, i still have never had more than 1500pp in my bank (i prefer to quest items i want), and never have really killed too many mobs JUST for money or farming. If you do MORE power to ya, this GAME is like anything in life, put in some dedication and ANYTHING is possible. FLAME AWAY
Very likely it was planted there... if you give items to certain NPCs (assuming the item's not no drop) it will be on its corpse when it's killed. Bored people often do plantings like this often... I once killed a bonecrawler in FOB that had a snow bunny pelt on it! I guarantee it wasn't because it's on their loot table, someone clearly planted it there... which is probably where that aviak got this. It has never been proven to drop anywhere other than Kunark (other than player plantings); don't go killing aviaks in search of this thing.
Just looted one of these tonight. It now has a damage bonus of +2 since the patch. Not that this really enhances its stats but an upgrade is an upgrade (or so Verant tell me :P)
whoever did the port aobut how u should give these to newbie warriors, damn, u were right. they love, em, well, i did anyways. i was sad about leaving my server for a new one, and the first thing that happens is someone tells me to come to the bank, and they gave it to me. i wish more ppl gave away unneeded things instead of selling to vendors for crappy prices =)
Make ALOT of friends with beginner big race warriors. Find some poor untwinked level 1-3 warrior in the Ferrot, Everfrost, or the ********** swamp (sorry, really hate that zone) and give this to them. Boom, you just made someones day.
Even better, wait till that D00d shows up, you know, the one who was incapable of twinking himself because he doesn't have the attention span to remember where his primary dropped the axe of the iron back he'd meant for his level 1 to have. The one who spams the zone in /ooc and /shout with 'give me money' or 'give me gear'...
now wait till him and another normal newb are in view, walk up the other newb, and very publicaly give him the sword. throw in some poetic RPing like 'thou hath shown promise young one, here, take this as a gift in appreciation of your efforts in slaying (frogloks, goblins, lizardmen)'
Trust me, you'll feel so good it'll make looting this almost worth the while.
#Anonymous,
Posted:Jun 01 2001 at 11:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just got this weapon from a giant in FM and dont like it at all. I sold it to a mercahnt fo 34pp. Well worth is but i see them all the time in FM.
My group found one of these on a forest giant at the giant fort in Warslick Woods. They don't seem to be very common in that spot at least. We got one out of about 40 forest giants killed.
No, not in Warsliks Woods they're not. But they're common as dirt in Frontier Mountains, swa one drop almost every five minutes while hunting in the giant fort there. Since they're lore, and very common, nobody seems interested in buying one. So I just sell mine to a merchant when I get one, easy 32pp for putting up with the weight for a while.
no it is not part of a quest varient puts the lore tag on stuff so u cant have more than one. if it was part of a quest it would have QUEST ITEM on it. :P
No such tag as quest item, that would give away too much. Lore items may be quest items, but not necesarily so. Often itmes are made lore simply to discourage farming. I'd love to fill up a bag with these and take them to a merchant for the 32pp a pop, that's better than mammoth tusks.
If you ever see an item that's NO DROP and has really crappy stats for the level of the mob that dropped it, there's a really good chance that it's a quest item. If it's just lore, that's much less likely.
Some idiot said sword was worth 90000 pp. Dont pay attenion to average price just look at the reasonable ones. All those 1pp posts were to bring down the average price if you havent noticed.
I looted a few of these in Warslik's Woods off forest giants and just wound up selling them to merchants. The stats are not that good, a fine steel 2 hander is actually better. ( Minus the magical stat of course) Anyone who pays the auction price listed above is a sucker.
I have seen this sold at merchants for between 860 and 1000pp (depends on faction). If i could get this kind of money selling LegChopper, I would run around and buy every one I saw to sell to players.
In case you haven't noticed, merchants quite often sell items for much more than they're worth to players. They sell giant foreman's tunics for 1275pp, but you'll never find any player gullible enough to buy one at that price (since anyone that gullible is not likely to have the money to afford it). It can go to the other extreme too, though. My brother found a merchant in the FP bard guild selling a lambent breatplate for 57pp. So merchant prices aren't the best way to gauge an item's value.
Crappy *** weapon. If you can kill a forest giant, you can easily get a better weapon. Trust me, it's not worth it. My warrior had one of these. It's better to get a Langseax of the Wolves.
I agree, this an OK weapon, but pretty crappy for the level of people who can kill the giants that drop it. Just sell it to a vendor or give it away to a newbie.
By the way, Vah Shir are now listed as a race that can use this weapon.
If it is Lore, it must be involved in some sort of quest, but Allakhazam has no listing for this quest, or even just a Leg-Chopper in the quest database... Anybody find a quest for it at all? Lemme know if ya' do...Reiva Miamo Druid 23rd Circle <Power of Vision> Tholluxe Paells
it is lore so you cant really farm these efficiently beacouse you have to get one go sell it then go back and kill another one and that is a hasle. oh buy the way sell to merchants for 25pp+
Junk items that have a lore on them sometimes are used for quests. The PGT is of use to some people, so they wouldn't want you to have more than one (ie duel wield them, pharm that gnoll that drops it ect). In this case though I think that it is lore to prevent people from farming it, cause it sells for 30-50 pp depending on faction.
