Okay, bring on the advice, not the flames.
I am a 13th lvl paly dwarf with Ghoulbane. Got it for 150P when I was a lvl 9. Really like the weapon. However, I was noticing that the Paly Epic is a 2hs. knowing this, why would/should a paly keep playing a 1hs weapon knowing that if he wants to wield his epic, he needs a good 2hs skill, not 1hs.
Just curious as to the thoughts on this.

There is a whole lot of game between lvl 13 and when you'll get an epic, if you ever do. There are lots of 50+ characters that do not have an epic, and have little chance of getting one. However, there are lots of great weapons in the game, both 1 handers and 2 handers. You should keep all of your weapon skills practiced, including piercing, so that when you loot some amazing weapon, and it happens not to be the type you usually use, you won't be out of luck. Also, Ghoulbane is a damn nice sword, particularly since it procs so early, and has a very good ratio to boot. It deals big damage, but not too fast, so shouldn't overtaunt with it. Also, when you fight casters, you have a chance to interrupt if you bash with a shield, something you can't do with a 2hs. I would not exclusively use Ghoulbane and neglect the other skills, but I would certainly use it if I got into a Spec group in oasis, or was going into befallen, or mistmoore, or any other haven of undead. But, even without the proc, it will probably be hard to find much better in a 1hs, for quite some time, unless you're heavily twinked.
My dexterity is only 79 with no buffs. At what level buff will the Ghoulbane procure more than once or twice in a fight? Wish Paladins had Spirit of the Monkey (

i bought the ghoulbane about 2 days ago i was kinda worried since ive been using 2hs for so long that it would not be that good of a weapon. but i bought for 150pp so i thought i would give it a try. i really love this sword it doesnt proc for another 3 lvls for me, but what the heck it does good dmg(29) at lvl 17. and its alot faster then my argent defender. im very happy for the price i got it for now since its priced at 800pp.

I travel so much that each time im in any of the NPC zones involved in the quest I do it. I pass by highold keep so much (to buy stuff for making fine plate armor) I sometimes go to basement and kill crazed goblins and it drops in less than 10 kills or so. I go to unrest just to visit and kill a crazed ghoul and it drops like less than 10 kills. And while i'm near butcherblock i visit the high level crazed goblins and it drops so often i'd say like one in 5 kills it drops. Go to najena to kill "A skeleton" and it drops it in about less than 10 kills as well. Click combine and there you go, another ghoulbane (dont click combine until after you sold your previous ghoulbane already). I have sold my last two for 1kpp each. And this has been in the last month on cazic thule. Sure, price is 800pp or so, but i'm not a twink. I spent HOURS getting the item, and did not farm, i do not have sow, i cant port myself, and not many do this quest so im usually alone when killing these mobs. About that 100+ damage proc... mine started at 132 around level 24 or so, and now procs for 162. I thought max was 160, lets see if it goes up another 2damage when I make level 36. I solo in kithicor with this and a shield at nite. Great exp, horrible pp, but a short corpse run since its near cities. I have 132str and 96dex and it procs AT LEAST 3 times per battle... and let me ad that these are long battles in Kithicor forest when soloing, unless you learn to bash then cast stun on those dang healing ghouls and fearing troopers, this makes sure that they dont get that spell off. Before i was just bashing all the time then stunning when they casted... well guess what... those fizzles happen. My fights use to be so long that the mob would literally be out of mana and not even heal themselves anymore. Now looking for someone to make me a golden black pearl choker to ad another 7 to my dex to make it 103dex!

I think the proc gets higher as you level. i am 35 now, and was camping a frenzied ghoul last night in Lower Guk. seemed to max at 162dd. but last night it actually proced for 172. i hope it gets higher as i level. maybe it was just a rare proc, but 172 is the most ive seen.
I was in Kaladim yesterday and heard someone say they wanted to give something to a paladin. Well, I am a warrior, but my lady friend partner is a paladin. I spoke to the gentledwarf nicely and explained the situation to him. This guy went and GAVE me a ghoulbane and told me to give his compliments to my friend. She was extremely happy, to say the least. I also gave her the shiny brass shield that I FINALLY found on the Orc Trainer. She is just 14 and I am just 16, but it still does a LOT of damage. When we hit our 20s and it starts going off, we are going into Unrest and Mistmoore. I'm gonna let HER go first while I stand behind her and make helpful suggestions.

The Ghoulbane sword will proc for you at level 20. Just a few more levels Teale and you will be dealing Dismiss Undead for a proc of about 150 -170 dmg. Great dmg ratio also. I still use this sword as my 1HS. A Pally never leaves home without his Ghoulbane hehe.

I think every Pally should get one of these!! Wow, when I first asked about the Ghoulbane, I didn't know what was up with it, Now, I never leave home without it. At 23rd level I'm dealing out 134 pts of dmg when it goes off. Seems to go off more when I'm not Fighting undead. I have come to hate the words "This spell only works on Undead". Right now it's my main weapon and I'm dealing out an average of 35-40 points of dmg and with douple attack maxed out for my level I'm doing some damn good dmg. It's a great sword, and I can say I'll be using this for a long time.

I recently completed the quest for the Ghoulbane at 26th level. Though the recommend is at a much higher level, it was not impossible to accomplish at lower levels. If you find good groups at each of the four areas, or even a high level peep willing to let you loot ;-) the quest is very doable. Sad enough to say, the most difficult part of the quest was waiting for the NPC in WK to spawn. I waited three different times for a few hours a pop. It wasn't until the fourth time I logged in and got extremely lucky as he had spawned at some point before my arrival that I was able to get a hold of the bag. The damage I deal with this is wonderful. My high damage is 36 and when it procs vs. undead I do right around 141. A worthy quest for a very worthy weapon.

I just completed this quest with my 35 cleric. I was able to solo most of the mobs involved, but had trouble in unrest. I was in a group in unrest and we all got wiped out by adds :). While getting a rez, the group yelled out that a heart had dropped and I got to loot it! :). The longest wait was for the goblin (crazed or thief) to drop the scroll in highkeep. I was there for 4 hours and no drops. Then I logged on last night and I solo'd the first crazed that popped and the scroll dropped. Go figure, huh?
I didn't have a problem with the NPC's not being there, but I did notice that ALL OF THEM despawned after I got the item I needed from them. I didn't hang around to find out what there spawn cycle time was :).
I enjoyed doing the quest because I was able to pretty much do it myself. I gave the ghoulbane to my level 18 pally...of course :) Look me or my pally 'Deekay' up in game sometime to group!

Hey, im kind of new to this. I am a lvl 18 pally and I just bought a GB for 300 plat. I know it wont proc for me until lvl 20. When I am in the midst of battle it is constantly saying that i havent the will to control this weapon or something like that. Is it trying to proc when it says that? Im not sure because it does it on almost anything I fight and I was under the asumption that it only proc'd on undead. Just curious about the dynamics and limits of the GB. I asked one guy about it and he said that each one is remarkable. He said his screams from time to time. Any explanations will be great. I am very confused!

Your suspicion is correct. If you were 20th level then you would be dealing damage when you see that message (if the mob is undead of course). When you are fighting non-undead post-20th, you get a message saying that this effect only works on the undead. This might be due to the fact that it would be too much of a pain to script a weapon to not proc when fighting the wrong kind of mob. Easier to just negate the effect and give a different message apparently.

this may have been mentioned in the above posts i didn't take the time to read them.
weapon procs are determined by dexterity. the higher dex your character has the more frequent a weapon will proc.
if you take notice to the class items that are reserved for your character you will see that they usaully dump points into the prime attributes for your class. in the case of the ghoulbane it is for a paladine and dexterity is not considered to be a primary attribute. if you find yourself in this situation and are aware of the items available and there effects/buffs in the higher lvls you may want to experiment in character creation with placing points in dexterity.
if i decide to make another paladin i personally will dump the majority of extra points into dexterity.
this post isn't meant to tell you how to play the game or meant to damn anyone for not considering dex as a needed skill for a class like paladins. just wanted to share some ideas on a strategy. if you know the items that are out there and want to try something new dex could be a fun way to make a proc weilding madman. unless you twink the lower lvls would pretty much suck but in the long run it may prove to be worth the effort. dont know since i only relized it after i made my char.

Hey all, just wanted to let you know I have one of these for sell on Bertox. You can reach me on one of my three main characters; Philibus, Zaneil, or Empidocles.
Quest was pretty easy, my 31 ranger did it.
Blade drops off crazed goblins in Butcher Block (there is a camp of them, not camped too much), Hilt drops off "a skeleton" in Najena (there are three places this spawns and they roam), Scroll drops off crazed goblins in High Hold Keep (these are random pops in Guard room, Warrior room, and Raider room), and Heart drops off crazed ghoul in Unrest (go to the left side of the castle as you walk in facing the front, there is a porch, go inside and go up the first flight of stairs as you walk in you see it on your left, they spawn there).
Getting the stuff after that was a burden, having to get ports, etc. Guy in WK is sitting along the river to the south, get port to nk, zone along the river to the south of zone, he will be right there - remember they do spawn too, so if he is not there, you will have to wait for him. Next guy is in BB, from docks, go on the north side of the north wall, along the ocean bank, he is standing there. Then you need to go to gal in DC, outside of unrest. Dont zone into unrest, as you face the tunnel going into unrest, she spawns to your left, up a bit. Last gal is in Lava, as you zone into Lava from Nek, she is just to your left as the tunnel widens. All spawn and dissapear when someone hails them and goes through the routine of getting the items, if they are not there, just wait a bit - they will pop.
Fun doing quests, especially when you get the reward - like I said, anyone wanting to buy this item, just give me a tell with any of my characters, Ill hook you up :op

Just bought one and tried it out. Procs for me at level 22. Did 136 damage each time.
this is a LORE ITEM! the dude with the proc about what it does, it does a 100+ dd to undead and the onther person about the proc, its random i have a friend that has a GB and his goes off less than mine. the wizzy dude, if you are on my server i'll take mine and stick it though you if you camp it! if your ever camping guards there are peeps that give them to them for the fun of it and i've seen 5 drop off DE guards only becuase some group of 55-60 gave them to the guards that i was camping.

errr also used in the SK epic also but i forgot about that. and some people say that it maxes at 144dd, well then it would max at level 24 but for some reason mine does 160dd at 34 now lets do the math here people.

the proc does a 100+ dd to undead. it sucks that its random but its also a good thing cuase it can proc 3 or 4 times in a row on one undead. JUST REMEBER THAT THIS IS PART OF THE PALADIN EPIC ONLY SO DON'T GET RIDE OF IT WHEN YOU GET SOULFIRE!

I'm a 39 Human Pally with a base Dex of 101 and this thing Procs maybe once every 30 hits. Other class friends of mine who have weapons that proc say theirs is going off all the time. Is this a class thing or what?
its complet random. i have a really low dex and mine goes off alot. but haveing more dex does help alot (so does str scenece us noble paladins don't have alot of str)

Might be that you're a human, but my guess is just your low Dex. I have around 107 Dex I think, and that's 37 Druid. But, also weird things just seem to happen. Me and my cousin were recently discussing how different races seem to consume food at different rates, just odd. So, it might just be one of those odd things. Try upping your dex a bit and see if that helps.

i have this wepon, its a very good wepon good proc too. i use it and i'm a lvl 23 pali
Great quest and great for farming to. Drops are generally often enough that both farmers and real pallys live happily side by side. Prices have and will drop.. which is good because otherwise you just get the uber farmers keeping the price high.
As a 36th wizard I can make the 400pp I charge for one a lot quicker by porting. However the exp on mobs and fact I felt like I was playing for something for a while was great. Only thing I didnt like was when some people were destroying drops on purpose, I would guess to keep the price high.
I think I helped 3 pallys in the twenties get the sword at different times while making one myself, keeping them company on there quests and giving ports for free. If I was a pally and had better things to do I would pay for this sword as I pay and trade for different items myself. Its a nice quest... I wish there was a quest I could think of as good for a wizard. If anyone knows one.. please tell me.
If there is ever a quest for a ShinyMetallicRobe or something similar thats fairly easy for a paladin and makes them feel a bit of the wizard spirit and they want 800pp for it, I definitely wont be screaming about "damn farmers!".

Once is all it takes...LOL I have done the quest 4 or 5 times...and gotten decent trades for it, most every time. It's pally use only...so only pally's can use it anyway...LOL On Xev server, Najeena is the probly the hardest part due too low levels of players in Najeena. It's all player driven economics according to VI...so unless you can convince them to change the coding in the quest to pally only for the note/necklace/note part...that would solve all your problems. Besides our hit/miss ratio is atrocious...so having a gb at lower levels kinda helps us out in the longrun. :) We want more pally's made and around us...don't we??? Being a pally isn't the easiest class in the world...and that epic weapon and armor quests are nothing to sneeze at. So enjoy farming, while it lasts...VI will probly change it soon...so stock up and have one gb made and the components for another w/container before it goes away...LOL...and starts dropping from DE SK (General V'ghera) in Kithicor at midnight or something...heheheheheheh

Agreed, the derogatory term "farming" is intended to indicate those who excessively camp for loot. The key word is "excessive". If you don't know the difference then the game would be better off without you.
Can I keep one in the bank to sell one for later and keep one on my hand?

If u want one to keep and one to sell, make a new character and give the ghoulbane to him to sell, then go get another for yourself.
Not if it's lore. The description says lore, but pic doesn't show it. If it is lore, you can't have two, even if one is in the vault.

Dont Sell Your Ghoulbane unless you are going to get another, You will Need it for your FA.

yeah oops i forgot about that. its a very great weapon, and i love it to death! when you do more damage than a warrior your level is so freakin cool. i have 1hs mastered and if a high level buffs me and i use yualp as well as bash a monster i can do more damage then a warrior useing a 2hs weapon with 2hs mastered with str buff of a even higher level. its so sweet reading " how the t`oi~ did you do so much damage groth?"
