On October 30th, 2006, Illusion of Apathy (a Cazic Thule Guild) dropped Arch Magus Vangl in Anguish. He was our 4th AMV kill, and it was only the 2nd time I'd ever seen "Jayruk's Vest" drop. (The first one went to our premier puller, a Monk named Aabca, and no-one deserved it more! The guy works his tail off...which is quite apropos, considering he's an Iksar.)

Arch Magus Vangl dropped a few other items from his loot table, but nothing which really appealed to me. When it was called for bids on the Vest, I put one in just for the hell of it. After all, a man can dream, right? I didn't honestly expect to get it; our Guild works on the merit system, rather than any of the hard-and-fast DKP or RPP point systems, and there were quite a few members present who out-ranked me in seniority.

Well, to make a long story short...it was awarded to *ME*! I'm the first Enchanter in my Guild to wear one, and it's a continuing source of wonder and amazement, that my Guild has come to value me so highly as to award me the 2nd Tier 2 BP drop in all of our history!

For those of you, like me, who see this and think: "I'll never get something like this in a million years..." Well, it *can* happen! All it takes is hard work, participation, a cheerful "can-do" attitude...and a Guild of like-minded people who know the meaning of the word, "teamwork"!

(P.S. The clicky effect on this, "Bedazzling Eyes", is a self-buff that is cast on YOU, not the mob; so make sure you have a buff slot open to hold it, or you'll waste it and have to wait 5 minutes for the recast. As such, it only affects the spells YOU cast, and no-one else. However, that -40% resist is *INVALUABLE*, especially when facing end-zone boss mobs, and well worth keeping a slot open for it!)

I'll take a screenshot of it in-game, and send it in. =)

<EDIT: Following paragraph added November 17th, 2006 at 0715 PST>

Screen shot sent in; it's now up to Allakhazam whether or not they like the format. Didn't know of a way to blaze my name on it, so just take it on faith it's mine. I put a Stone of Horrid Transformation in it, so it's got +505 mana. =D

<EDIT: Following paragraph added July 19th, 2007 at 2318 PST>

Now that I've had awhile with this Robe, I can honestly say that the clicky effect (Bedazzling Aura) just doesn't seem to do anything at all. It certainly doesn't "Decrease Spell Resist Rate by 40%", or even anything close to it. Anyone else experiencing this?

The real deal

There is a focus effect on this that is not listed here. The focus effect is called "Absolute Neurosis" and is 55% spell damage to ONLY your OoW ancient nuke, yes you heard me, 55%!!! If you don't believe me, click on my sig and look at my alternate profile, absolutely insane focus effect there.

Did you even bother to look at the stats?

25 ac on a caster robe/tunic is dang good, let alone 40. Give me a break.

Actually the ac is what is seriously lacking on this robe. I have a robe that has ac like this and it was Luclin era robe. It's the rest of the stats that kick *****

Still...it would be nice to see some other effect or focus on it.

By the time you get this... 100ac on a caster robe won't make any difference, getting agro on a named mob will likely get you one-rounded anyways, and int caster mitigation is so poor AC won't help you even against trash mobs. The 355 mana is pretty nice though, and the resists, but I'll agree with the original poster, the tier 2 quested items are definitely lacking focus effects and clickies. Not even the common dot resist or spell shield you see on most of these?

I also disagree. I was in an MPG group at Odi camp and everyone died but me and the cleric. I had to tank a mob, it was slowed BTW, while the cleric kept me up with fast heals. I was runing myself and trying to repeatedly mezz the mob at the same time while waiting for the dumb necro dots to wear off.

I had a couple of close calls but we survived. If I had had more AC it would have been easier. BTW I have all defensive AA's and I was 6.6K buffed (cleric and self). The moral is that AC does matter.

As far as the robe is concerned should I wait for this or go for the one from King Gelaqua which has higher AC? I like AC so I think I'll go for the one from the king considering that we're nowhere near Anguish access.

Well I have to disagree with that, the named in MPG and RS really are not any harder than a regular mob, and might be able to get 6k worth of damage in one round that's MAX. My 12k HP enchanter, with 4 layers of runes, might hit 80% with that round, and seeing a 6k one rounder with even a couple levels of mitigation AAs and defensive gear would be just wrong.

I can 3-layer runes on myself....

Ethereal Rune, Rune of Salik, Mayhem... (1950+1105+552= 3607 HP's)

Please, how do you manage the 4th? I would love more rune HP's while I fight RS mobs, considering they often blow all 3 out 1-rounding me... Though I manage to get off VERY lightly indeed that round.

The fourth is the enchanter epic 1.5/2.0 rune which is stackable with anything and everything.

1.5 absorbs 1.5k - https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=31010

2.0 absorbs 1.8k - https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=32951
