Weapons naturally only get better the further you progress. This applies to all classes to include warriors. In the end game, if a warrior looses agro, it generally means their either dead, or someone is *trying* to over agro.

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 17 2005 at 9:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol i'd just like to point out everyone saying that knights wont match the dps of duel weilding warriors and what not. I cant speak for Pallies but as an SK (and most people forget this) try parsing our damage and INCLUDING our pet dps + dots and nukes. We far out dps warriors. I've parsed my pet (with kit and bard haste only) doing 250 dps to pofire mobs. I've parsed myself full buffed + lions with epic 1.5 and blowing all dots/nukes + pet on a mob and parsed around 450 dps

As a PoP-geared Ranger, I am nowhere near uber, but have off-tanked VZ clones just fine. Rangers have reasonably high aggro DoTs such as Flame Lick, Tangling Weeds, Immolate and Ensnare as well as a Taunt capability. If I need to hold aggro the bad guy gets a full measure of them from the get go. Otherwise I stand away and use the bow, wait a bit until they REALLY REALLY hate the MT before even casting a snare.

Lets get one thing straight, if the class is a hybrid they can do some of the things of the parent classes, but not all and not as well, that's a fundamental difference. So get a grip on the fact that not matching a Warr for DPS or a Cleric for healing doesn't mean the class is out of balance. Pallys work as meat shields because they can heal themselves in a pinch and produce decent DPS but will never match a Warrior in DPS or dmg mitigation. Stuns are great for pulling aggro from casters, breaking mez or tagging a pulled/kited MOb. I agree to a point about aggro control being 90% skill but you also have to consider gear and the fact that Warriors flat-out take every item they can get their hands on that increases dmg, HP and hate. Pallys have to think about mana and spell duration and, just like every other class, how NOT to steal aggro from the MT. That said, the way you play and/or the role you fulfill within your guild will influence how you select AAs and gear, thus determining your potential to acquire or avoid aggro. The rest is how you use it. If you want to whine with a little more justification play a Monk.

Now about the weapon. Needing a reagent for a combat effect just plain blows, but you gotta like the stats.

The "consumes a XXXX when cast" is just for the old castable version of the spell. This is the 3rd blade I've had that uses a Rune (Devastating Maul, Bloodied Berserker's Blade, and now this), and I've never once consumed a reagent. Runes cause a very nice amount of aggro though, if you're not careful you might be drawing it when you don't want to...

runes dont create agro, but getting hit with a rune on you does cause agro. Rune4 is a perfect knight solution because in raids theyre not the first choice to tank. A nice weapon when you want agro and when you dont want agro.

I would like to add that tanks should stop worrying about dps. The truth is the better you do your main job which is holding agro the better everyone else can do their job. That by itself will makeup the difference in dps.

incorrect

I know necros that use thier self rune to hold aggro if they need to (along with taps to tap tank)... and I've personally pulled aggro in a group with my low level wizard alt by casting my self rune on inc.

laugh...

all three tank classes have their advantages

and if ya want to get picky bout holding agro, that is 90% skill and 10% pur dumb luck. Each Class has it's agro mod's. If you can't hold it then learn how.

as for a mnk doing 500 dps and constantly taking agro...laugh and points to the above para. .

this is a nice weapon! personaly woulda prefered a higher delay with the same ratio simply to offset reposte damage. 1k reposts are teh suck

as for class balance, get a grip!

SHAYO: Please send me some of what you are smoking. Pally=group healers? GROUP HEALERS? A Paladin with a 5k mana pool can cast the highest level non G.O.D. group heal....a WHOPPING 850 hp's about 5 times before being OOM. You call that group healing? I don't.
I do agree that we are meat shields, but a little dps would go a long way to help a paladin. A warrior is ALSO a meat shield and yet they defeat the guts out of a paladin in every aspect of melee/dps. What is equal about that? As stated, all other melee classes are getting more and more aggro control ability and our stuns get nerfed at every turn. Is equality too much to ask? A warrior with aa's and "band-aid" ability can allow them to even heal nearly as quickly as a paladin can now....especially when we are "group healing" as you say lol.

Sorry...My intent wasn't to flame...except the part about saying we are here to group heal, which in my humble opinion, is obsurd.

RE: SHAYO/GROUP HEALERS
# Feb 22 2005 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
Its clear you have no healing AA's or healing focus. Little example here, we will use the PoP group heal because it is unlikly that you will ever see the OoW one but here goes. WoM uses 850 mana heals each member for 900hp that is 6.4hp per mana not great but ok. Now lets say you have an 20% improved healing 4 or 5 item now you heal each person for 1080 or 7.6hp per mana. Add on another 15% from 12 AA's and now you heal each person for 1215 or 8.6hp per mana. Add a 20% mana prez and for 680 mana you heal each member for 1215 or 10.7hp per mana. A clerics CH only has a ration of 18.8hp per mana and it takes 10sec to cast and is single target. So for 12 AA's and 2 fairly east to get focus you have a powerful too to keep your group alive in the face of an AE.

I Keep 2 group heals up at all times on a raid, (a) its a fast heal to keep group members up and )b) its great for agro if I am MA. Most times in a raid the real healer in your group will be busy with other things, namely the MT so it is your job to keep that healer and the rest of your group up. The loss of pally dps is not a big deal and by keeping those wizzys and rogs alive you do far more for the raid than anything else. I can reguarly crit group heals for 2k+ or 3k+ with the 70 group heal. When we are doing mobs like Zun'murma in rcod my group does not need to leave open a spot for mgb heals because I can keep them all alive with no problems.

Now I agree that we have some problems as a class that need adressed but for now I do the jobs that fall to me, group healer and MA for snap agro.
Nerf this instead.

This is for all those people whining out there. Who do you think will do more damage, a warrior wielding two weapons with a ratio of 42/31 like this, https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=30344 , or a knight with a Jagged Pureblade of 52/25 and a shield?

You guys whining about the JPB had better get your heads ***** on right cause even if it had a ratio of 62/25, knights still wont be able to do the same damage as a warrior dueling two weapons like the Brutish Blade of Balance. So nerf this instead and give knights a break for once.

# Aug 09 2005 at 9:52 AM Rating: Default
there are warriors that use 1handers + shields, and outdps knights (at least paladins). knights dont get flurry, rampage, 1hander dps increasing AAs, accuracy, strikethrough, etc.

its like a form of taunt.

Jagged Pureblade - Once and for all
# Oct 18 2004 at 2:46 PM Rating: Good
Just to clear a few things up...

The Jagged Pureblade does drop in the MPG trials. The Arcana one to be specific - I forget the actual name of the trial.

Daeeldar is in my guild actually, and he hasnt been complaining about the aggro from it either way, so that is not really an issue either, at least at the point in the game where you could actually get this weapon. (Though I doubt the majority of the posters here are.)

Anyway, it is a nice weapon, the best for the 1h/shield combo currently available, and I know I am hoping to get it myself the next time it drops.

Well, Good hunting to you all, and good night.

The reason he wouldn't be complaining about agro is rune procs are easily managed agro - ie if this procs while you are beating a mob in the back it gives no agro, however if you have the agro already and you get some procs and rune yourself you get a lot of hate. Thats the beauty of using rune for agro.. you only get hate from it when you want it.

Unfortunately I'll have to disagree with you. My Rogue has a Rune 1 proc on his offhand dagger and gets way too much aggro from when it goes off, so I don't personally think position has anything to do with it--he just might not have had the Rune proc go off near as much yet.

Even if you're able to control aggro with preemptive Evading, you're going to still find yourself getting smacked when Rune goes off. I can only imagine the difference with a Rune 4 prove versus my dinky Rune 1.

Still, amazing weapon. Someday my lil SK might be big enough to get this~
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 17 2004 at 3:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) these noobs are getting worse and worse with their whining... shut up, just because you think you're the 1337 warrior and should be uber at evrything doesn't mean you shoul be. Warriors aren't ment to do dmg, as so many people before me have said, they are purely their to take hits, nothing else. Would you like it if pallies and SK started crying becaus wars get all the high AC armor?

Do any of you people bashing paladins and saying this will overbalance them even play one? I have the 1hs from zun in txevu which is very similar ratio to this and let me tell you, even with this quality ratio paladins still have sh*tty dps.

Over the course of the last several expansions paladins have gotten NO NEW AGRO TOOLS while every other class increases in dps and their innate agro generation increases. There will be a time, and it won't be long where paladins will no longer be able to hold reliable agro with stuns..

The only way to increase a paladins agro is to increase his dps and to give him high agro procs like this one.

I personally looked at it and first impression was "hmm not that much of an upgrade from txevu 1hs" but after looking again at the 394 dmg rune, it is definitely a tanking weapon and an agro upgrade.

So stop whining and go find the links for the similarly improved ratios weapons FOR YOUR CLASS - they ARE out there.

I got to agree. Its not like paladins duel wield or anything. What sony wants knights to be are knights....a character with a really nice slash and with a shield. This weapon is great overall but remember that 20% of a paladin's dps comes from 2hander aa's. This is just a asset for the new shield block aa.

Im not flamming eny 1 but some times raw dps is the best way to hold agro there alota mobs stunning has litle efect on well aside from the Sk has some nice agro pradusing spells

I play a warrior as main and have a sk and paladin alts warriors all they have to be a meatshield is dps procs tant and acouple displins

paladins stun spells tant

sk agro spells snare dots

try keeping agro from a uber monk kicking 500+
using 2hb tripling 400+ he fd loss agro jump back up and take it again main perpos might bee to tant but if your not doing your fair share of dps
clicking that tant hotkey disarm slam/kick can thro it out the window on a warrior with out the use of good dps wepions and proc

pally and sk can hold agro better with use of spells

so befor you say we are just ment to be kicked around like a popcan wile we hold agro from the casters and dps classes remimber we need the tools too do ower job too the best we can wen I turned 62 with my warrior and got invited to those nice BOT groups for exp was using stun procs for agro found out fast that was a no go for maintaning agro there your stun spell had no effect

Who cares if it "brings balance" or if it "nerfs warriors"... (I've traded spots with an equal level warrior in raids, and I can tell you... Pallies/SK's will NEVER be able to tank like warriors.)

You're a tank. You use your hit points, face time, armor class, and you're ability to gain, and hold aggro while other DPS oriented classes take the mob down. You're a MEAT SHIELD. Get over it. Wizards out DPS you. Rogues out DPS you. Rangers out DPS you. You're job is to keep them alive so they can do their job, so everyone wins.

At the level you would need to be to attend this raid, and loot the item, you aren't soloing anything unless it's for fun/profit/farming.

Congrats to whichever individual is lucky enough to earn this. It will look very pretty next to Crynos, Shield of the Rift.

Looking at the rest of the Queen and King's loot, it's all required lvl of 68. That would not make sense to have all their loot 68 minus this sword. Based on pure logic, I do not think this sword drops off the queen, bur like in the MPG's like the poster above stated.

Do you not realize that Rune is aggro? plus a 52 25 weapon is gonna out do warrior aggro anyday... Plus pallies have stuns to hold aggro just fine even if its resisted its aggro.. Sk's well Sk's never have a problem holding aggro i see warriors with anger weapons lose aggro more often then i do pallies / Sk's so ya if warriors ever get weapons that are like this...
52/25?

Yer the one that's supposed to be on the frontline and the class that has been lacking in melee DPS though.

Crap like this only puts you guys farther behind. Dual Wielding does very little to close the gap with a paladin running around swinging stuff like this.

Oh and give a SK one of these....lifetaps, dots...your DPS just got smoked.

Making warriors useful only when guilds need defensive discs to take down raid class mobs.

i agree with what crazypurple is saying cuz its the truth through and through...and i dont know if gilg has ever parsed a high end warrior's dps...cuz i have... my friend has a 13k warrior, parsed him at about 190dps lets see a sk or pally get there, that would be quite interesting cuz my main is a sk and i know for **** sure his dps is nowhere near that, more often than not i dont even use dots/lifetaps during groups cuz they suck up mana like a sponge, and i dont bother because like Crazypurple said...dps isnt the issue, you should try playing a tank class before you make comments like these and let the warriors whine about their class balancing, quit doing it for them =P

I parsed my friends 70 sk using a Cudgle of venemous hatred auged with a bloodstone of force 47-48dm 28dly +1 mag dm (after aug) with the new oow pet and using all the new oow dots and dd. He parsed at 250 - 280dps i'd like to see a warrior even get near that. He was only using eyepatch of plunder and bracer of earthen energy for haste btw.

We figured the dots alone gave him upwards of 100dps.

I am a paladin myself, and I've never boasted to have good DPS. Yes, an SK will out DPS me, but do I care? No. Why? Because I can/have saved MANY groups via my roots, stuns, and heals. I can't count how many times I was tanking 3-4 mobs in BoT with other adds I haven't taken aggro from yet and is beating on a caster and I've been able to heal him and save his life. Or, by stunning, I can (depending on zone and mob levels) easily save clerics mana and put myself, and the rest of the group, in a safer position because of it. Lastly, what if you're ina group with a druid for a healer and a group member dies? Beg for a cleric to come and rez you? Paladin = 90% rez which is fine for just about any non-snob (or someone who would lose a level) in EQ. I'm not saying a paladin is better an SK, just pointing out advantages of us paladins.

EDIT: Forgot to address this with warrios o.O Because warriors have the best mitigation, hp, bla bla bla they don't need stuff like this. Yes, it's a plus for us knights to have extra DPS, but, it's not a necessity, but it's nice. A tank doesn't need DPS - that is, all we do is keep aggro. By a groups standards, would you rather have a tank that dishes out uber dps and can't keep aggro or have one that has ZERO dps but NEVER loses aggro? Any caster would/should choose the second. If you're a warrior and you're ******** about the dps your weaps put out you are DEF. in the wrong class - be a monk or something. The only reason we're getting this stuff is so our DPS is totally lost in the dust, but we are still just about dead last in melee dps in the game (if not last).

RE: bah
# Oct 14 2004 at 8:02 AM Rating: Decent
Well technically spealing, dual wielding 26/21 weapons is NOT the same dps as wielding one 52/21 weapon, but the main point is still true. This weapon is NOT out of balance with the weapons for other classes at a similar level of the game. People who are whining about it are people who are not anywhere close to that level of the game and are gawking at the big numbers.
