In reflection weapons like this have become ALOT better than they were back then.

Why?

Well a big issue back then was stats, you needed good stats and resists to stay alive but now with defiant gear this is generally met. Yet weapons themselves from defiant have no procs, whatsoever.

I know some out there are gonna say 'yeah but their ratio' or perhaps 'ldon augs' - I do get that. But, weapons like Sword of Skyfire are AoE and essentially do up to 225dmg. At that level, that's huge. I've also noticed that with a modest combat effects of 3-6 this thing procs a lot. Sometimes 3-4 times per mob and that equates out to some pretty good damage. Since your resists are better off these days, you should resists a majority of the procs.

The biggest drawback is that this is main hand only. There are some alternatives such as Bottle of Gelatinous Slime at lower ends or perhaps steel hilted flint dagger. Copper Hammer of Striking really lost a lot of nostalgia for me because they changed the proc - used to be Force Shock (unresistable) but now is planar strike (sucks ***, always resisted). Sword of the Bloodsworn is similar. Venomous Axe, great as it procs often for 85dd and hardly ever resisted. You get the point..

Anyhow, take this over a lammy any day now ;)
Fire Resist
# Feb 27 2004 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
I think it's strange that this weapon(when procs) hits the wearer with the spell as well. I was wondering though if a high Fire Resist/Magic Resist combo would prevent this....? I would imagine someone with 75%+ FR/MR would be great at soloing/farming. :-)

Please share your opinions....except ones confirming I'm an idiot :-)

Couldn't Tell ya. Never got that high. But I find a PGT in the Off hand or even in yer main is always fun. Before I switched servers I had an 18 RNG that could kick serious but by dueling a PGT and a tentacle whip. DMG was low but PGT procs beserker STR and the whip procs life tap.

WAS IN GD AND COULDNT FIND A GROUP- SO I TRIED TO SOLO KODIAKS WITH MY 38 WARR. BANGED ONE OUT, WAS LEFT WITH 70% HEALTH- WAS HITTING FOR 30 TO 40 WITH CRITS OF 60 -IM THINKING NOT TOO BAD!THEN I TOOK ANOTHER AFTER MEDDING AND HAD AN ADD OF A SAVAGE KODIAK JUST AFTER I SNUFFED THE FIRST. WELL I GOT THEM BOTH WITH ONE RED BUBBLE OF HEALTH LEFT, THANKS TO THE SPEED OF THIS SWORD I LIVED .I HAVE GOOD STATS (NOT UBER)AND IM SHOWING DAMAGE BONUS OF +4 ON THIS WEAPON AT LVL 38.NO PROCS YET AND GETTING INSUFFICIENT WILL TO WIELD MSG. IS THE DOWNSIDE. I PAID 500PP IN BAZ AND COULD EASY GET 700 TO 800 ON 7TH HAMMER. GRAPHIC LOOKS LIKE CENTI LONGSWORD (LONG ,WIDE AND POINTY)EXCEPT NO RED MARKINGS ON BLADE.

Those caps locks are hurting my eyes! And this sword does not look like a centi ls. Its more rounded than it. It looks like a shieldstorm, runic carver, Argent defender ect. That type of graphic. I wish I could afford one for my ranger. But I think I saw them for lik 1k or something on my server :( I'm only lvl 25 so I can't afford that yet.

When you get the money and lvl, you should get a Toxiferious Axe. It has a required lvl of 51, but has a 17 delay and 10 dmg. Only painful thing is if the mob has a DS, brings your health down a bit. Also, when you get to lvl 45, the proc on your Sword of Skyfire will kick in (this is a bad thing). The proc breaks mezzes and hurts you. So, when I hit lvl 44 i dumped my beloved SoSF and dinked around with other weps til i hit 51 and got my Axe (unbelievable change in DPS). I got mine for 1.2k on Inny, so it's not too expensive.

Geting hit by this proc is fun, cause it makes the screen go all red and lags my computer up somthin' fierce! You can also shout that your butt's on fire... those were fun times...
Question...

Hmm, I was just wondering, if Hierophant meaning lvl 60-65 druid.. Then why do these punks carry SoSF???? Anyone have an idea?

if i'm level 13 i can wield this weapon if somebody gives it to me.......the effect just doesn't kick in right away
right?
RE: I can wield this weapon....right?
# Jan 30 2003 at 1:35 AM Rating: Decent
Since this weapon does not have a required or recommended lvl you can use it, but it doesn't proc till lvl 45. Be wary though of when it does start to proc. The proc is an AoE and in close quarters it can do more harm than good. Nothing like getting three adds because of a proc.
not procing at 35
# Nov 19 2002 at 2:23 PM Rating: Default
all i know is that i bought this weapon with the hope that it would begin procing at level 30. however this has not been the case as of late. i am now level 35 and am still getting the old, "your will is not yet proificient enough to wield this weapon", or whatever the message is. so i know at level 35 with the sword of skyfire is not procing for my ranger on the ayeon ro server. wish it was but its not hopefully at 45.
later guys.
Effect kicks in at Level 30
# Oct 12 2002 at 8:00 AM Rating: Decent
Ok folks after making a complete fool of myself by Assuming something. I set out to find out once and for all.

This is not definitive but it is tested.

Loaned mine to a Level 32 Ranger friend and it procced right away.

Not sure why but he does have a Master Rating of 110 in Evocation.

Maybe that has something to do with it?

Sorry about the ***** up on the earlier post.

# Dec 14 2002 at 8:09 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, you're correct. However, the mage isn't the one who wants to generate and keep agro. This weapon is very good at doing just that in the hands of a hasted, dex-buffed MT.

Until you can get better (and there is MUCH better), this is a very nice item for a warrior, pally or SK who MT regularly.
My experience with this sword
# Sep 20 2002 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
I have no clue when it starts procing since I got it at lvl 47 and it proced right away for me. What I can tell you is that if you can get the enemy to stay in one place this weapon has the potential to hit for 168 hp a proc. It will however hit you for 44 hp or so three times for 132 hp of damage if you don't get out of the way. What I've noticed is that when it procs if you back up a couple steps you can avoid the last two times it hits you and still keep on attacking without being out of melee range. This of course will only work if the creature is feared and/or rooted.
I only use this weapon when I'm soloing along with a centi-LS. People have complained 3 times out of 3 so far that this weapon will cause adds and break mezzes ect.... ect... So when I group, I simply switch to the centi-SS primary, centi-LS secondary. All and all I think this weapon is very interesting and keeps you on your toes a little more when you melee which makes leveling much less monotonous. Plus it looks like a Runic Carver-Argent Defender 2hs weapon that you swing with one hand. It's a nice, fast, hard hitting procing weapon that I'll always keep.

I love this sword, it will defiantly cause adds;) I only use it when I farm. Put on that FR gear head into SolA or TM and aggro all the little gobbies or grimlings. Gotta make sure you are in an area you can kick alot of butt in and have a healer behind ya, otherwise you'll get yourself killed.

# Aug 25 2002 at 10:33 AM Rating: Decent
for everyone who wants to know when this procs, it is at lvl 45, when it starts tho GET RID OF IT, the proc hits you too =) that can be a bad thing sometimes. otherwise, this is an awesome sword. either that, or make sure your fire resist is high enough to take the punishment for you, it is a 3 wave 75 aoe proc,

RE: proc lvl
# Sep 10 2002 at 11:14 AM Rating: Default
First I want to say that I'm a noob. That being said, I bought this weapon for my lvl 30 warrior in the bazaar for 40pp. It's a great sword. I was killing goblins in Butcher Block for faction and then descided to methodically hunt down and murder all the wandering greenbloods I could find. Any how , every now and then I saw a message that said ' (insert target ) was burned' and you have been burn for .... points of damage' I had not bothered to read the battle effect of the sword, I was just interested in the 10/22 stat. Like I said I'm a noob. Any how It didn't occur to me to check this stat until a short while later in the frontier mountains. I got an uber hp buff and started hunting giants in a party of 30+ lvl people. Everyone's uber hp's were fine but mine kept steadily declining with the You have been burned message popping up constantly. So i'm sitting there watching this aoe fire cloud engulf the giants i'm hitting and damaging me and wondering which caster is doing it. I looked at my sword and ...well DUH.... it was me doing it. So the point of my stupid post is that every body in my group said it procs at 45, but it has consistantly proc 'd for me at 30. I'm not saying that the above post is wrong, just that it's proc'ing for me at lvl 30.
P.S. don't flame me i'm just trying to post some semi useful info. If i'm wrong correct me , but then explain why it is consistently proc'ing for me (at lvl 30 not 45).

Insufficient Will?
# Aug 01 2002 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
i picked this bad boy up today for 100pp (it was a friend who had no use for it anymore), and i kick some serious booty with it, but every once in a while, i got a message in my chat box that said "your will is insufficient to command this weapon" does that mean it was going to proc, and if so what lvl does this thing proc? either way i love it!
RE: Insufficient Will?
# Oct 16 2002 at 5:16 PM Rating: Default
It is simply tied to the minumum level in which the weapon will process or "proc" the magical effect. Some people say it procs 45 among my friends -- level 45 being in the top 5 levels at the time that this weapon was introduced.
RE: Insufficient Will?
# Oct 28 2002 at 11:06 PM Rating: Good
This weapon was released with Kunark. And with Kunark we got 60th level. So this weapon proc'd in the last 16 levels. That is, if it proc's at 45....

RE: Insufficient Will?
# Aug 18 2002 at 5:52 PM Rating: Default
on any weapon with a proc, if you get a message that "your will is insufficient to command this weapon" that means yes, it *was* going to proc, but couldn't due to level restrictions. as for when this bad boy procs, i'd have to guess around 46 like many other kunark items; of course thought, i could be wrong.
RE: Insufficient Will?
# Oct 16 2002 at 9:04 AM Rating: Decent
Even on my Lvl 38 SK I get the "insufficient will" As well melee stats are well over 150. Also every time you ask someone in the Bazaar or anywhere that is selling one of these what lvl it procs they tell you 45. FYI these go on Solusek Ro for around 800-1k in the bazaar. Good luck and happy hunting.

# Jul 18 2002 at 9:40 AM Rating: Default
I paid about 500pp for it, I like this sword, its
very light, and is fast, I'm also wearing a FBSS so this sword is even faster now, I have a ranger spell "call of sky" which makes my weapons proc, and when this skyfire procs too, there will be 2 weapons proc'ing against the mob, very cool indeed, I have this skyfire in my primary, and a Centi SS in my secondary slot, so almost no weight from these weapons, which also is nice to my stamina for multiple pulls without having to stop and regain stamina all the time.

I just hope when it procs and I am low on hp, I dont nuke the mob and myself to death, that would **** me off, but would be kind of funny, brings new meaning to the term, "Live by the sword, die by the sword" , time to start looking for a few fire resist items to wear.

I got one for my warrior a little while ago in the Bazaar for 300pp. I'm using the same weapon combo as you, this in primary and Centi SS in secondary. That's not bad for 550pp.

Still Getting Burnt
# Apr 02 2002 at 10:18 PM Rating: Default
Can anyone suggest what to do, I am still wondering whether to sell this sword or not. I just hit 49 with my ranger, who nows gets an improved +SvF spell so my save against fire is 94 now. I still however get hit by this weapon, sure it may take 54 of the mob I am fighting, but it can also takes 20+ off of me, occassinally I can stand just out of reach of the proc, but this doesn't happen all the time. It's a great weapon, but getting hit by it doesn't make me like it that much :(
RE: Still Getting Burnt
# May 24 2002 at 11:07 AM Rating: Default
I am having the same problem. Are there any other swords out there that the proc damages the wielder? I like using this when grouped with my brother's druid to keep aggro, but sure don't like getting hit. Was this screwed up in a patch at some point? Can you turn it into a GM for one that works? LOL. I seriously want some answers.
RE: Still Getting Burnt
# Jun 11 2002 at 1:00 AM Rating: Default
Actually, it is working, thats the way it was designed to work, just like the Poison Wind Censor and Adamantite Bo Stick. AoE procs that will damage the user and any other non-pc around them.
