Yea alot of old world quests are not not worth your time and money to do. Maybe a true newbie might benefit from this quest if they was in south ro and a high level killed it and gave them the plans.

Back in the day the boots of ro was pretty popular.
good ol` days

i rememeber in 2000 when this weapon was like, REALLY good, not many dmg 10 1h weapons, it was like my dream to get one, now this thing is a piece of crap, but still, those were the good ol days

I wouldnt use this sword for any warrior, as a non-twinked 15 dark elf warrior I have a centi-shortsword already and I had a blackened alloy longsword by 10 both of which I bought with the hard-earned lootings of my wisp hunting (Note my magic weapon at that time was my noob quest weapon)

lol I don't care WHAT you say or what year it is, ANY war at lvl 15 with a centi ANYTHING is a tweak. You just bought your tweaked stuff.

Difference? lol lvl 15 with centi stuff already.

Tweaked. You keep using that word. It does not mean what I think you think it means.

The funny thing -- aside that I'm posting to a really old comment -- is how way back in the day, the playerbase was split over twinking. The "Squire" here representing the typical inarticulate ABC After School Special morally superior "anti-twinking" camp getting so incensed over something like twinking (and using the wrong term and apparently not even understanding how to use it). If the "Squire" here was losing his cool over a dude "twinking" his alt with a Centi weap, he'd go absolutely apoplectic with nerd rage these days.

I've got a centi shortsword by level 7, easy, untwinked. That's around 100-150p.

You're telling me I can't afford a 20p warhammer by level 15?

That's like saying anyone at any level who ever bought an upgrade they could not or just did not get themselves is a tweak, no matter if they earned the money themselves or not. The fact of the matter is, this thing might have once been useful, but putting the quest xp and possible enjoyment of doing it aside, it is pretty much crap now, because you could easily earn the money to legitimately buy something better in the same time.

Itemization has not only affected the high level game. I'm not saying it's neither good nor bad, but SOE has redone the whole newbe thing to the point where it's actually better and less time consuming for a real newbe these days to get the plats and buy their stuff then it is to do the newbe quests. Does that make them tweaks? No I don't think so. What constitutes a tweak or twink is someone who used a higher level character (own or others) to attain equipment (either by killing or buying) and then make sure their lower level alt gets it. If you however start a new character and he kills his rats or whatever and earns enough money to buy a sword that todays economy has put at a certain price, and it's way better than what the same person could have gotten 3 years ago at the same level it only indicates a change in the game, not a tweaking of the character. Not that twinking is bad anyway, but your definition of it sucks to the point where it includes anyone who ever bought an item. Personally I have played my main untwinked to 65, but I started enjoying the game more and more as I leveled. It's fun at level 15 alright, but it's better at 45 and even more so at 65, for me personally. So, every new character I make I twink without regret and I hope to the gods the same option will be available in EQ2. I did the parts that I find less enjoying over and over with a couple of different characters and now I much more enjoy getting past that faze quickly to get to the point in the game I enjoy. That is not Time raiding or even Elemental planes. My main isn't even there, but I still enjoy him more at 65 than I ever did before.

The whole leveling and questing for low end, mid end and lastly high end gear is fun to some. Others, like me, want a quicker trip soner or later, and neither of the two is something to scoff at in my humble opinion.

My points are. Twinking isn't wrong. Buying something isn't twinking to start with and lastly, but most importantly, play the game the way you enjoy it and ***** the rest. The enjoyment is why you play at all after all isn't it?
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 26 2004 at 8:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ROFL, anytime anyone obtains an item that they themselves couldn't have obtained either alone or with a group at a comperable level is a TWINK. Saying that it's a "change in the market" is just another way to defend yourself against being called a twink. It doesn't matter if you earned the money to buy the items in the bazaar or not, you're still having the item handed to you by another higher level player. The only exception to this rule being tradeskill items that are combined with VENDOR purchased ingredients.

Consider two people in the medieval world, a hunter and a banker. The hunter goes out and plies his craft, bringing back many pelts and meat, far more than he could ever use. In addition, most of the pelts are not of as high quality as the ones he already owns. So, he goes to market to sell the surplus. Luckily, the banker happens to need such items. He has no inheritance, and lacks enough skill at hunting to bring back even the substandard pelts that the hunter has collected. However, he has proven to be adept at earning money, and so is able to strike a fair deal with the hunter. Both go home happy. This does not make the banker a cheat, and it is highly unlikely that anyone could frown at the banker for not being able to learn and apply the skills of the hunter himself.

If this holds true in real life, why should Everquest be different?

On the "Role-Player" server this might actually be a nice slasher to weild. This and Langseax and you are doing some decent damage. Mind you, if you happen to be twinked (which CAN happen on a RP server, even within the idea of RP'ing) then this sword is not terribly desireable for using in combat, BUT its still a nice quest to do just for the experience-both in relation to leveling and as a RP'er.
more useless opinion on the BBK

A long time ago...
Al'Kabar and his friends had lost the means to travel to the moon...
Those crazy gnomes didn't quite have the tinkering skill and the sense of adventure to get us into the lost continent of Velious...
The elves hadn't built a ship big enough to set up an outpost or even find Kunark...
The goblins didn't have power in Runyeye like they did now...
The Erudites hadn't broken into the strongholds of the kobolds...

...and the Brazen Brass Kilij was a good weapon to have.

But in the present day this sword would be an OK weapon for a low level who was hard pressed to find something better but was fortunate to aquire the Kilij Plans.
The damage/delay ratio IS better than a rusty and bards with their self haste songs or rogues looking for a LOW taunt offhander and maybe even some warriors could make this useful.
Jonothan's Whistling Warsong is 20 percent haste which makes this ratio 10/31.5
The quest still gives A LOT of experience and if you just did it for that I'm sure you could make some newbie in cloth armor a happy person for a little while.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 31 2002 at 2:07 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this sword is a piecocrap. if i did the quest, itd be to give to my necro for use as a pet weapon. a rusty dagger has about the same damage/delay ratio. why anyone would want this is beyond me

This is a good weapon for twinks around levels 1-15.Otherwise if your a warrior you start to need some better stuff. This doesent cut it.I can think of a million better weapons than this one,but its an ok one if your a newb. You have to get stuff off the casters and if you have a sword like this,it isnt going isn't going to help you.

# Jun 19 2001 at 5:08 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure if its been mentioned or not, but I got a BUTTLOAD of experience from doing this quest. I'd say the quest is worth more than the item! If you happen to be lucky enough to have an AC camper tell you to "Loot the Plans" like me, it's well worth paying an Enchanter 40 Plat to purchase and enchant the gold bars. The amount of XP I got is WELL WORTH the 40 plat I spent. Then you can sell the sword and recoup your losses.

This game isn't JUST about who has the best loot. VI spends alot of time on these quests, maybe you all should think about that? Maybe if you don't want to bother with the Kilij Plans, give them to a lowbie and tell them how to do the quest. They'll thank you later.

Thanks Thanan for posting on this, I wanted to say, that this quest is fun, and I used the BBK 'back in the day' as some of you are putting it, and yes, it will make a newbie happy, with some decent haste stuff you can still bash a few skulls, and the exp is NICE. anyways thought i'd also put in about how much VI does actually spend on quests, and every quest i've successfully done has been fun.

This is a decent weapon you can use until you get together the plat for a better one or do a quest for a better weapon.

Stop berating it you weak minded twinkies.

(also a rogue)

I totally agree. I feel twinking takes ALOT out of the game. Everthing I got I got on my own. Maybe some of this people think that this weapon is crap should try playing a non-twink. They wouldn't get past lvl 5.
RE: what is life for....
# Nov 29 2002 at 4:02 PM Rating: Decent
Lets think about this a second, doesn't everyone have to start as a newb at first? Then lets ask ourselves how could someone twink an alt if they are not past lvl 5? If your thinking that they could get something from other people in the game Im afraid thats wrong too because at lvl 5 I dont think you are going to know a lot of high lvl people in the game willing to twink a newb like yourself. Sure sometimes you know a RL friend who will twink you, but personally I dont know anyway who also plays the game. Think before you speak.

you mean you have not given your lvl 12 necro stuff your cleric scrounged up for him? twinking is fun, my 44 wiz has twinked a shammy and a monk, and there is nothin wrong with it. of course the wizzy was not twinked to start, but got to his lvl by grit and determination.....
RE: what is life for....
# Jan 13 2003 at 8:25 PM Rating: Default
Twinking is not necessarilly wrong ( tho i don't do it) but i think what he was saying is that it takes the "role" out of "role-playing". if you have a high lvl character and you have twinked another one of your characters, then maybe you should try going non-twink. Maybe you will find out you like it better that way, maybe not, either way it wouldn't hurt a single bit. I think that just being able to survive to lvl 20 without twink these days is something to be proud of, no-one does it anymore. I am now a lvl 27 bard non-twink and unfortunately i lost a corpse so now i have vey little, but I have chosen to keep on going on. I'm not trying to judge anyone, just kinda offering a different path thats all.
RE: what is life for....
# Jun 13 2003 at 10:20 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a non-twinked lvl 39 druid on FV server, I solo quite a bit, and I'm still wearing 3 pieces of newbie armor. The rest I quested for, got while grouping with friends, or made by tradeskilling. I did purchase a couple of items off vendors in different zones like my Flamberge from a vendor in Thurgadin. It's a little tougher to get items, but I don't need to get to lvl 65 and have the best of the best in uber (which actually means over in german not super as most people seem to think) gear in 1 month. I enjoy the role-playing and the acomplishment of attaining an item through good old fashioned hard work. I know that's an out dated concept in this age of "I want it now and deserve it just because".

Looks aren't everything. The Crystalline Blade (11/38) looks like a rusty broad sword, but can deal out some good damge. Not everyone is concerned about image and as for delay/damage ratios, duh...there are a thousand weapons better than this, but are they all for sale at around 150-200pp? Can you easily get them?

Yes there are better weapons for the same price or less. I bought a blackened alloy longsword (Magic Lore dmg10 dly 29 +3 sv poison) for 100 pp. Useable by more classes too. Unfortunately, since it's lore, you can't dual two of these, but can equip in either melee, so can dual with anything else. But pair with another fast weapon and you out taunt this thing with ease. As far as being easy to get, the guy who sold me mine, already has another he wanted to unload to my alternate character.
Decent Weapon
# Apr 07 2001 at 1:12 AM Rating: Decent
This is a decent weapon until near your thirties, when you should start looking for something with either more damage or equal damage and lower delay. Wielding it beyond thirties is asking for a beating from higher end mobs.
RE: Decent Weapon
# May 27 2001 at 5:52 AM Rating: Default
I think you're a little wrong there as far as this weapon asking for a beating. Higher delay means lower taunt, and in group situations I (a rogue) do not need more taunt. Sure you're sacrificing a bit of potential damage but I think it's real important as a rogue to make sure I don't cvoi the mobs off any more than I have to.
